July's twist is a fan favorite with the return of Future Sight: Officials are incognito, and offer 5 bonus points each to any user who can correctly predict their placing (must be top 6) in the official before it starts.

Hosted an Official Hunt on Friday, July 19th, at 15:00 (3PM) GMT.

The QCers were Computerwizard8800 and TurtalKatThing, lots of thanks for helping me with my first fish.
The official scavenger hunt by DrThop was ended automatically.
1st place: bubidajeffery [45:56].
2nd place: Bert122 [01:24:48].
3rd place: WarriorGallade [02:33:59].
4th place: aegii [02:52:55].
5th place: Snecko [03:55:49].
1) I'm battling alongside some NPCs, and one of their Pokémon, which is level 76, uses a status move on the opposing Pokémon. This status move, however, applied a "different" type of status condition than the one it was supposed to. Answer with the name of the NPC and its Pokémon in that order. [Luke, Clodsire]
2) In Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, there is a glitch that, among other things, could make Double Slap afflict the poison status effect. These are all the Pokémon that could be poisoned this way (alphabetically). [Breloom, Paras, Parasect, Seadra, Shroomish]
3) Before generation 6, when they became immune to the status effect, there is one instance of Thunder Wave that could not paralyze any Electric-type Pokémon. This is the Pokémon that uses it. [Kirlia]

The first Bert fish happened Wednesday, July 24th at 16:00 (or 4pm) UTC.

Thanks to the QCers, aQrator and TurtalKatThing.

This hunt used the Future Sight Twist, everyone who correctly guessed their placement before attempting the hunt gained 5 extra points. In this case, this means DrThop was the only one to achieve 5 extra points.

1st place: yeet dab xd [25:53].
2nd place: DrThop [57:41].
3rd place: WarriorGallade [01:45:30].
4th place: penguind [02:54:42].
5th place: Teutonic✠Squire [03:56:47].
Consolation Prize: Yuli998 [04:35:17], Snecko [04:57:46]

1) (Assume legal Pokémon and movesets for the entire hunt). I am playing Pokémon Sun and enter a battle. I only have one Pokémon in my Party, which I healed with a Full Restore before the battle. My Pokémon is not fully evolved, holds a Normalium-Z, and uses a Z-Move on the first turn of the battle. It acts first, even though it is slower, and uses Inferno Overdrive. The opposing Pokémon uses Tail Whip. What Pokémon did I send out, which move did the Z-Crystal enhance, and where did the battle take place? [order: Pokémon, Move, Location]
[Cottonee, Nature Power, Wela Volcano Park]

2) I also recently played another mainline Pokémon game. I entered a non-battle facility building and initiated a Trainer battle inside. In this battle, at the end of a turn, the opposing Pokémon took the same amount of damage 3 separate times. The third instance of this damage fainted it. The game displayed the opposing Pokémon’s own Chlorophyll ability as the source of the damage all 3 times. As soon as the opponent’s next Pokémon was sent out, 2 animations started playing over and over in an endless loop. This prevented me from continuing the battle, and I had to reload my save file. Who was the trainer I faced, and which Pokémon’s animations were the reason my game softlocked? [order: Trainer, Pokémon]
[Leader Gardenia, Cherrim / Gardenia, Cherrim]

3) This time I am battling against a friend in Pokémon Ultra Moon. It’s a Single Battle where all Pokémon are set to Lv. 50. On turn 1 my Pokémon gets hit by a “not very effective” move by my friend’s Greninja. Greninja's move does not gain STAB. My Pokémon then uses a status move. If my Pokémon had used its move first, Greninja would have dealt less damage to it. On the following turn my friend uses Haze, which successfully removes at least one stat change from my Pokémon. My Pokémon then uses a move, but misses. On turn 3, Greninja uses the same move as on turn 1, but only deals 20% of the damage it did on turn 1. Disregard damage rolls. No Pokémon has a held item, lands a critical hit, faints or switches at any point during these 3 turns. Which Pokémon do I have sent out, and which status move did it use on turn 1? [order: Pokémon, Move]
[Garbodor, Autotomize]

Among the attacks found on Pokémon cards owned by locations seen in Lucario and the Mystery of Mew, certain attacks are shared by cards where a majority of the cards (counting the owned card) share a type, but exactly two of the cards are different (and distinct) types. Our Twist for October is Perfect Score: If you finish an official without making any incorrect guesses or using /leavehunt, you will receive bonus points based on your placing! These bonus points will follow a format of 10-8-5-5-5-5, with all finishers past 6th able to earn 2 bonus points. Note that in the case of an official question's answer being edited, this twist will be nullified for that official.

Answer: Cherubi, Sandshrew-Alola

q2 - In Unite, only Sylveon learns Hyper Voice, and that move can be upgraded from the move Swift. Sylveon's only other option to upgrade Swift into is Mystical Fire.

q3 - Google "Nintendo 64 peripherals" -> Find this Wikipedia page -> "The VRU or Voice Recognition Unit (NUS-020, NUS-021, NUS-022, and NUS-025) is compatible with only two games: Hey You, Pikachu! and Densha de Go! 64."

q4 - Part of Tranquill's head and part of its wing are shown in the given picture.

q6 - Shadow moves can only be used by Shadow Pokémon. Transform fails against Shadow Pokémon. Shadow Panic is a Shadow sound move that only exists in Pokémon XD.

q9 - https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Soul-Heart_(song) -> https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/M19 -> Dub Edits

q10 - Snecko: "i found this on reddit while trying to see what the most obscure collectable for pokemon was. this one was inspired by thop and subsequently mine's hunts for staks, and i found this in r/singapore lol. i went on google images to see any funtabs that i could catch and this one was sorta prevalent"

q11 - The image shows Pachirisu's neck, cute little paws, and part of its belly.

q13 - https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/List_of_Pokémon_with_form_differences -> Pokémon with technical forms.

q15 - The episode Kukui and Burnet get married in is SM055. In the list of characters of that episode's Bulbapedia page, you can see DJ Leo. Enter his Bulbapedia page to confirm that he provided the music for the event. DJ Leo's Pokémon are Dugtrio-Alola and Diglett-Alola.

q16 - Find this Bulbapedia page. -> Ctrl+F "Hearts x3"

q18 - The solution path for this was meant to be archive.org which had a lot of the games, but they're also laid out in Bulbapedia (even though the Bulbapedia article is missing the newest games before Flash was discontinued.)

Using reverse image search or by searching for Chespin in animation on Bulbapedia you can find that the hat in the image belongs to Mairin and that this image is from an episode of Mega Evolution Pokédex Shorts. Most of the episodes with English dub are considered lost media but searching the Japanese name (マノンのメガシンカ絵日記) will immediately lead to a compilation with all of them.

You could also find this website and deduce that the crayon painting depicted in the image must be from the Sableye Short. You can then find either the japanese or the spanish version of it (or just guess the answer). (Also for everyone with a Keen Eye: The first letters of the words in the flavor text for this question spell out the answer! Something you may or may not stumble upon while solving the meta.)

Ok so the first thing to figure out is the location, which you can get by finding the only location in Sword and Shield where Trubbish is a wild encounter (Route 3). Then you have to find which Pokemon you're using. The only Pokemon on the route weak to Poison are Cherubi and Gossifleur, but of these, only Gossifleur is a visible encounter. Thus, Gossifleur would have to have been the first Pokemon you saw.

Discounting egg moves, since it was a wild Pokemon, the only non-damaging move you could use to make Trubbish easier to catch is Sing. The only item that could be consumed by using Sing is the Throat Spray, since Sing is a sound-based move (with the other move being Hyper Voice although this is irrelevant).

The item being Throat Spray also lines up with the rest of the question. You only get one in the main game unless you buy it from the Battle Tower, and a second obtainable one is found in the Crown Tundra DLC. The only thing (I can think of) that you can get for free from GameStop that would get you another Throat Spray is an event, so by looking at the Bulbapedia list of event distributions in Sword and Shield and Ctrl+F'ing Throat Spray, you can find a Shiny Toxtricity event distributed through GameStops in the US from February 19th to March 18th, 2021, making the answer 03182021.

q22 - Blue-Striped Basculin normally had access to the same set of Abilities as Red-Striped Basculin's in Pokémon Black and White (Reckless, Adaptability, Mold Breaker). However, a Blue-Striped Basculin available in an in-game trade in Pokémon White has the Ability Rock Head.

q23 - The intended solvepath was this: Nintendo keeps a repository of every DS Pokémon game manual in their official website.

q26 - You can find the card via this Bulbapedia page. Following that you need to find an old website that compiled the rulings which resulted from WotC chat logs in the early 2000s. The answer is the latest of the 3 dates listed under the updated ruling for Nidoking (Aquapolis Expansion). The chat logs exist, and looking through them shows that the first 2 dates mentioned on that website were times this question was asked, but there wasn't an official answer yet. Only on the third time someone questioned this card the ruling was officially made.

q27 - In the novelization, the poacher's Scyther was mistakenly called a mono Grass-type Pokémon, instead of a Bug/Flying-type.

The entirety of the given image is a very small part of Thundurus's tail. Here's a picture to better show it (look for the orange outline):

thundurus-png.689534

The theme Menace02 is talking about is "voice". Ikue Otani voices Pikachu in the anime and, coincidentally, in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. The other characters she voices in SSBU are Goldeen, Tiki, and Morgana.
Pikachu <- Boh (the weird yellow fat cat Ghibli thinging)
Goldeen <- Ponyo (the hairy Ghibli goldfish that squirts water)
Tiki <- Haku (the white Ghibli wyvern with chicken legs)
Morgana <- Jiji (the black Ghibli cat)

Below is Menace02's more detailed explanation:

"The intended way was for solvers to figure out the connection was voice, and then Ctrl+F "voice" on the Pikachu Bulbapedia page, which would lead you to Ikue Otani (and some moves).

Then, if you scrolled through the list of Otani's voice credits on Bulbapedia, outside of the ones for the main series anime (but inside of the Pokemon titles), there are three other characters she voiced; being Goldeen (x5), Tiki, and Morgana.

Clicking on the characters would show you they're visibly similar in shape, color, and species to Boh, Ponyo, Haku, and Jiji respectively, although you would have to reverse image search to see that Ponyo is actually supposed to be a goldfish.

Although obviously none of this went as planned and I should have made the first connection/path to voice actor far more obvious."

q30 - You are supposed to search “Cartoon Network US” (with the quotation marks) instead of US Cartoon Network on Bulbapedia.

q31 - The phrase "specifically German Pokémon Ruby" should help you find the German debug version of the game. It includes an E-Card emulation feature that only works when connecting to a German Pokémon Ruby game. A dedicated individual looked through a lot of the files associated with this function and posted details on Glitch City. Once you find the linked Glitch City post, doing Ctrl+F for "egg" leads you to the solution.

Your previous answers hide the keys to pass this final trial." is meant to be taken literally.
"Everyone you met had something to say." refers to the flavor texts at the bottom right of each question.
"Use their words to find the scattered pieces.": Characters (letters/numbers) are meant by "pieces", and these characters are "scattered" across your previous answers. Since we give you the answer to q1, that's not one of YOUR answers. Hence, you are supposed to search through the answers from q2 to q31. (The answer of q1 was very much deliberately formatted differently so that you don't include q1 in the meta. Same goes for q32, but that's irrelevant.)
Though, how do you find the characters? That's where "You can count on our words." comes in. Literally, count the number of words in each flavor text. Then, for each question, if there are n words in its flavor text, select the nth letter as a key.

Thus, you have the following characters: fclunexmdcgbdaeesxe8l8scahnnlr. What's next? I mean, what is stated in the question after "Use their words to find the scattered pieces"? That's right, "follow the Order of the Voices"!

To properly order fclunexmdcgbdaeesxe8l8scahnnlr, you need to literally follow the order of the voices. This order was laid out in three places:
  • Q1's flavor text: "Snecko, Soft Flex, PartMan, Snaquaza ◢ ◤, Bert122, bubidajeffery, DrThop, Two of Roses, Menace02, and OHKOff⁇ declare their Order to be true."
    • Q32's flavor text alludes to this: "We declare our Order to be true."
  • This very post, which was used to announce ("declare") this hunt: "That hunt is The Voice Odyssey, featuring a bunch of questions brought to you by the following members of the Order: Snecko, Soft Flex, PartMan, Snaquaza ◢ ◤, Bert122, BubidaJeffery, DrThop, Two of Roses, Menace02, and OHKOff⁇ (me)".
  • The hunt announcement that was found in /events: "The Order of the Voices has taken over the Scavengers room! Don't miss the long awaited Voice Odyssey, featuring questions from all 10 Members of the Order of the Voices: Snecko, Soft Flex, PartMan, Snaquaza ◢ ◤, Bert122, bubidajeffery, DrThop, Two of Roses, Menace02, and OHKOff⁇. (QCed by TurtalKatThing and Teutonic✠Squire)"
    • Once again, the word "declare" in "We declare our Order to be true." hints at /events too. Sadly, after this hunt was carried to Treasure Town, the relevant /events entry was taken down.
Thus, group the characters in fclunexmdcgbdaeesxe8l8scahnnlr according to whichever voice asked the question each characters belongs to, and then order them according to the order of the voices laid out above and below.
  1. Snecko: q10, q18, q23 - ds8
  2. Soft Flex: q4, q11, q28 - lcn
  3. PartMan: q2, q7, q14 - fed
  4. Snaquaza ◢ ◤: q16, q19, q24 - exs
  5. Bert122: q20, q26, q31 - ear
  6. BubidaJeffery: q25, q27, q31 - chl
  7. DrThop: q3, q8, q15 - cma
  8. Two of Roses: q9, q12, q17 - xge
  9. Menace02: q6, q21, q29 - n8n
  10. OHKOff⁇: q5, q13, q22 - ubl
(For each voice, you were supposed to order the three characters according order of the questions they belong to. We deemed this step too obvious and too hard to allude to while still fitting the narrative.)

Thus, you have "unveil[ed] their final riddle!": ds8lcnfedexsearchlcmaxgen8nubl
What is it saying? Well, after adding proper punctuation and spacing, it is saying /ds8 lc, nfe and /dexsearch lc, maxgen8, nubl (in that order). The "riddle" is solved by simply running these two commands in the chat of PS!, with the given order.
  1. Cherubi is the result of /ds8 lc, nfe.
  2. Sandshrew-Alola is the result of /dexsearch lc, maxgen8, nubl.
Thus, the answer to the final riddle is "Cherubi, Sandshrew-Alola".

The twist Perfect Score was active during this hunt (before it was carried to Treasure Town). This twist meant that a finisher would get double points if they did not answer any question incorrectly. Sadly, none of the first three finishers were able to achieve that.
