SPOILERS! Scarlet & Violet Leaks Thread - Data/Mechanics

Small question around Dripplin.
So it's heavily speculated it will get an Evo in Indigo Disk. How it will react with Eviolite in Teal Mask?
I see 2 options:
1. They will spoil it further evolves
2. Eviolite won't work on it for now but will be
patched on later on.

Option 2 never happened within same gen right?

Btw, does Eviolite work with Ursaring and Stantler?

Eviolite does work on Ursaring and Stantler.

I missed the "heavily speculated Dripplin Evo" part but I believe that they would not apply eviolite even if they planned an evolution in the second DLC part.

I cannot think of any precedent though so I'm just going with my guts here.

Option 1 also didn't happen as far as I remember, unless you count Eviolite Galatian Slowpoke as a spoiler (but it was known from the start it would evolve very soon)

Here's some of the supposed evolution lore:

There is a hint towards a two-headed snake Pokemon and Kieran being Blueberry Champion.

So now that the full dex has leaked, have those of you who plan to do a separate DLC team gotten anything locked down? I'm currently thinking about

Tinkaton (planning on using a Tinkatink as my "starter" depending on how scaling is done and how high the max level is)
Sinistcha or Dipplin
Quagsire
Torkoal (caught a shiny in the base game) or Salazzle
Bombirdier
???

Sinistcha/Dipplin and Quagsire are my only real locks tbh
I am starting a fresh team with my original SV starter. So my team I think will be

:skeledirge:
:kommo-o:
:yanmega:
:gliscor:
Bloodmoon Ursaluna
Orgepon

Meowscarada/Espathra/Dondozo/Iron Hands/Kingambit/Flutter Mane

Mix of mons I like but haven’t used yet and broken shit

I'm a bit confused of why you'd think of any of these as "broken" when it comes to single player campaign.

Even Magikarp is broken when it comes to single player campaign.

I really don’t think Dipplin is getting an evo tbh. I think people mostly say that because it looks more similar to Applin than the other two, but candy apples are obviously gonna look closer to regular apples than apple slices or apple pies. I think it’s just gonna be a 485 BST ‘mon like the other two and that will be that.

I get what you mean is "this is an easy game for babies" but there's definitely strata of broken in terms of effort required to keep them around vs what they're going to do.

Yeah I agree. I know ultimately they’ll do whatever they want, but it would be super weird to me.

They’ve never had uneven branch evos, and if they wanted a third stage for applin, they could’ve just evolved its existing evolutions instead of making a third branch. I’d also find it odd for them to split it across two DLCs like this.

I mean the entire concept of regional evolutions are uneven branch evos if we're being honest

Moreso broken in competitive like Espathra and Flutter Mane. Plus, it's an opportunity to use Paradox mons in a regular playthrough

This is a completely fair point, but I think that the fact that so far they’ve been restricted only to regional variants is imo an important distinction, not that it’s something that could never change or anything like that. I just mostly think that Dipplin is a single-stage because it logically fits the progression of Dipplin going from a basic apple to some kind of prepared apple dish as-is.

My point is mainly that ironically a lot of "broken competitive mons" are pretty bland or just flat out boring in story content.

Have you ever tried to roll through this game with Dondozo or Toxapex? Unless you're CTNC I don't think you're about to find the experience enjoyable in the slightest.
As far as the others... I mean, sure, Flutter Mane is going to faceroll everything that isnt immune to both stabs and honestly even what's immune to them... but... so is any of the starters.

Idk I struggle to find how oneshotting everything with "Iron Valiant" is different from oneshotting everything with Flamigo like the speedrun does, or with your overleveled starter like most of the casual players will do, or with any of the early game mons like Azumarill that the game conveniently throws at your face every 2 steps.
Then again if that's "your thing" (as in, someone's) by all means... i sure won't stop you, just look at you with questioning look.

I'm also in the camp of "giving Dipplin an evo" would be really weird based on their track record of split evolutions, also putting a lot of marketing into a middle evolution is a little odd, even for them.

I'm more annoyed about the weird pandering to Galar considering we were just there. Why couldn't they continue their Johto Shitmon Retcon?

If they wanted items usually found at a Japanese Festival then Wind Chimes? If they wanted a Pokémon that could be "r-faked" into a cute, silly Grass/Ghost type that plays with matcha powder why not her? (Although I kinda understand this one due to it being possessed tea ddd)

And finally, if they wanted a Dragon type they can play around with that is going to represent the obvious foreshadowing of the Unova 2024 games, why not him? Especially with the rumours about who Drayton is related to?

Yeah I find their choices odd and a little boring. Duraludon was already pretty powerful BST wise, so I can’t see the evo adding much. We already have a bunch of recent grass/ghosts. And dipplin is cute but applin already has two evos and I can’t see much to set this one apart.

It’s weird, for a while they seemed to be avoiding giving forms/evos to more recent pokemon, then suddenly we get multiple gen 8s at once.

I'd point that a evolution or regional form for Chimecho is still not off the table for DLC2.

That said, it's likely that they're just going off Galar mons for some of the regional forms just off popularity or being known. Players, expecially those that started with SwSh, are much more likely to remember and be interested into "Sinistea v2" than generic gen 2 pokemon that has nothing special other than once in a blue moon VGC appearance (sorry Jumpluff i still love you).

I guess this is more a return to form. Gen 3 had gen 2 cross-over, even if it was just 2 mons and also pre-evolutions. Gen 4 had gen 3 cross-over

So now that we're really in the swing of things again with evolutions (regional or otherwise)
...probably could have given some love to gen 7, but hey we still have another game to circle back to!

Also my thought for a dragon type to play with would probably be Druddigon, personally.

I don't think there's enough room for another POkemon in DLC2. There's....7 of them, i think?
So we have Archaludon, Storm, Crown, Terapagos. Then we need the other 2 paradoxes and the Tree.

I doubt Chimecho is going to turn into a tree, at least. And would have fit better with DLC1.

Even if there's 8 I don't think Chimecho is any more or less likely than most other Pokemon, and could also be another paradox or legendary-esque pokemon.

Pokemon Go cut Gen 8 short to jump into Paldea so GF has to remind people Galar existed before they forget its dex like they should do everything else from it.

I think given the initial teal mask marketing it did seem like Applin and Chimecho were gonna be focused on so not even getting a regional variant/evolution of Chimecho seems like a missed opportunity.

I think of some of the gen 8 focus as trying to cover for their shortsightedness when designing some of the gen 8 mons. Duraludon and the Applin line feel pretty conceptually tied to their respective GMaxes, which won't be returning anytime soon. As a result, the mons get their lines 'completed' by another route in gen 9.

I still don't feel like the GMaxes necessarily completed any of the lines. Applin in particular, the GMax felt disconnected to either evolution. Duraludon went from a funky gun to a building; design wise there's a link but I don't think they were so connected as to necessitate an evolution to fill the game

And otherwise I think we'd have gotten more than just the pair.

like the same DLC is bringing in an alt form for Ursaluna and an effective-alternate-form for Sinistea/Polteageist I think at some point it's just "hey we have a cool idea for these pokemon still" and they just feel more comfortable doing that, while also maybe wanting to get over their avoidane of giving stuff to recent stuff.

People aren't speculating about a Dipplin evo because it looks like Applin, they're speculating about it because the leaker with the track record of being correct has been hinting at it.

Has khu said anything about Dipplin specifically? I thought people were just guessing it was the tree mon.
