- Spikes / Stealth Rock
[SET COMMENTS]
Sandy Shocks leverages a great typing, solid Speed tier, and access to entry hazards and Volt Switch to be a solid offensive pivot. Volt Switch allows Sandy Shocks to pivot out of uncomfortable matchups such as Meloetta, RegenVest Roaring Moon, and Blissey. Entry hazards allow Sandy Shocks to consistently pressure foes, with Stealth Rock being a notable option over Spikes to hit Chien-Pao and Ceruledge, and they synergize well with its STAB moves which naturally threaten common hazard removers such as Corviknight and Great Tusk. Choice Scarf helps Sandy Shocks to alleviate its unimpressive Speed, turning it into a potent revenge killer and cleaner, outpacing threats such as Modest Deoxys-S, Iron Boulder, and Cinderace, while Heavy-Duty Boots allows it to bypass entry hazards, turning it into a more durable pivot and not locking it into a single move. Sandy Shocks works excellently with powerful physical pivots such as Meowscarada, Barraskewda, and Roaring Moon, threatening common physical walls such as Corviknight and Great Tusk and giving these physical wallbreakers opportunities while forming a potent VoltTurn core. Sandy Shocks is frail and struggles to switch in against non-Electric-(AH)types; defensive pivots such as Corviknight, Mandibuzz, and Swampert are all appreciated to help alleviate this.
