Rillaboom is rather poor choice as a wallbreaker in OU because of its average Speed stat and shallow movepool, leaving it helpless against the likes of Corviknight, Mandibuzz, and Hawlucha. Having Overgrow as the only ability and its weaknesses to common offensive types, such as Flying and Fire, somewhat hurt its role as well. On top of that, it is outclassed by one of the tier's best wallbreakers, Galarian Darmanitan, which has higher Attack and Speed stats, a useful coverage option in Flare Blitz, a better ability in Gorilla Tactics, and great Dynamax potential. Therefore, Rillaboom should not be used at all. Jolly is the preferred nature to outspeed Gyarados, but Adamant can also be used to always 2HKO Galarian Corsola with Wood Hammer. Knock Off is a must-have on Rillaboom because it removes Leftovers from Ferrothorn and Corviknight and Eviolite from Galarian Corsola, which makes breaking past them much easier. Earthquake nails Aegislash, Excadrill, and Toxapex without taking recoil from Wood Hammer; it also prevents an Attack drop from King's Shield. Superpower can also be used in this slot to OHKO Hydreigon and 2HKO Ferrothorn.

Since Rillaboom is used as a wallbreaker, defensive partners that can cover its weaknesses, such as Rotom-W and Aegislash, are appreciated. The former also forms a great VoltTurn core with Rillaboom. Late-game sweepers that appreciate the opposing team being weakened, such as Gyarados and Choice Scarf Galarian Darmanitan, are also great partners. Corviknight and Mandibuzz are a major roadblock for Rillaboom, as it cannot break past them, so teammates that take advantage of them, such as Rotom-H, Toxtricity, and Galarian Darmanitan, are appreciated.

Rillaboom is rather poor choice as a wallbreaker in the Sword and Shield OU because of it's average Speed stats and shallow movepool, leaving it helpless against the likes of Corviknight, Mandibuzz and Appletun Hawlucha. Appletun's not important enough to note as an issue for Rillaboom; Hawlucha's really prominent right now and has an easy time taking advantage of Rillaboom, so replace Appletun with it. Having Overgrow as the only ability and it's weaknesses to common offensive types such as Flying, Fire and Ice somewhat hurts it's role as well. On top of that, it is outclassed by one of the tier's best wallbreaker; Darmanitan-Galar, which has higher Attack and Speed stats, better coverage options like Flare Blitz, better Ability in Gorilla Tactics and a great Dynamax potential. Whether Galarian Darmanitan is the best wallbreaker in the tier is debatable, so lets just leave it at one of the tier's best wallbreakers. As such, Rillaboom should not be used often at all. However, Rillaboom still finds it's niche in the OU tier because of it's respectable attack stats, access to Knock Off and the ability to offensively check threats like Barraskewda, Drednaw, Rotom-Wash and Tryranitar. Rillaboom isn't justifiable at all. Mentioning this after all that also changes the tone up way too much for the rest of the analysis. Jolly is the preferred nature to outspeed Gyarados but Adamant can also be used to always 2HKO Corsola-Galar with Wood Hammer. Knock Off is a must have on Rillaboom as it removes leftovers from Ferrothorn and Corviknight, and Eviolite from Corsola-Galar which makes breaking through them much easier. Earthquake nails Aegislash, Excadrill and Toxapex without taking recoil from Wood Hammer; it also prevents attack drop from King's Shield. Superpower can also be used in this slot to OHKO Hydreigon, and 2HKO Ferrothorn. Drum Beating can be used instead of Wood Hammer as it has no recoil and also lower's the foe's Speed stat, but Wood Hammer's raw power is generally better.

Since Rillaboom is used as a wallbreaker, defensive partners that can cover it's weaknesses such as Rotom-Wash and Aegislash are appreciated. The former also forms a great VoltTurn core with Rillaboom. Late-game sweepers that appreciate opposing team being weakened such as Gyarados and Choice Scarf Darmanitan-Galar are also great partners. Corviknight and Mandibuzz are a major roadblock for Rillaboom as it cannot break past through them, so teammates that take advantage of them such as Rotom-H, Toxicrity Toxtricity and Darmanitan-Galar are appreciated.
