Thanks to Grassy Glide + Grassy Surge, Rillaboom can be a great late-game cleaner, revenge killer, and powerful wallbreaker. Choice Band gives it the most immediate damage possible, while Life Orb gives it an option to set up and deal even more damage at the cost of being easier to force out and less immediately threatening. Grassy Glide lets Rillaboom threaten out or revenge kill faster offensive threats like Urshifu-R and Tapu Koko. U-turn lets Rillaboom generate momentum and capitalize on the switches it forces, while Swords Dance is run on Life Orb variants to take advantage of the free turns that it can generate versus common defensive Pokemon like Rotom-W and Slowbro. Superpower allows Rillaboom to deal with Heatran and Ferrothorn which would otherwise be very difficult roadblocks, but is not always reliable due to its stat drops. High Horsepower is a weaker alternative with no drawback that still deals with Heatran. Knock Off is a great utility move that also helps with Steel-type checks that are not weak to Fighting, like Skarmory and Necrozma-DM, as well as removing Heavy-Duty Boots from Fire-types such as Ho-Oh and Volcarona, significantly crippling them, while Wood Hammer offers even greater damage against neutral targets like Clefable and Landorus-T.

Rillaboom often makes its home on bulky offense teams where it breaks down walls for its teammates and also can have its own checks chipped down. It works best receiving from a god with a high base Attack stat, like Necrozma-DM or Rayquaza. Rillaboom also offers Earthquake damage reduction and some small recovery from Grassy Terrain to its teammates, giving it some defensive utility. Volcanion makes a good offensive partner, thanks to Rillaboom's ability to force out Water-types like Gastrodon and Slowking that would annoy Volcanion. In return, Volcanion can handily deal with Steel-types that would give Rillaboom trouble. Speaking of Steel-types, Magnezone can straight up trap and eliminating them, paving the way for Rillaboom to sweep; both Pokemon can form an offensive VoltTurn core as well. Heatran and Tyranitar answer Fire-types that give Rillaboom problems, as well as provide Stealth Rock, which is complemented by Rillaboom's Knock Off to limit Ho-Oh and Volcarona from switching in. Most variants are still relatively frail and like to have pivot support from teammates like Rotom-W and Corviknight, as well as entry hazard removal from teammates like Tornadus-T and Landorus-T.
