Reuniclus (Full)

[OVERVIEW]

Reuniclus holds a unique place in the RU metagame, as it’s the only viable Pokemon with Magic Guard, making it immune to Entry Hazards and to many forms of counterplay to bulky setup sweepers such as Fezandipiti and Okidogi’s Toxic Chain abilities and Scald burns from Pokemon like Slowbro. Reuniclus also has one of the only abilities you might consider choosing instead of Magic Guard; Regenerator is often used on pivot sets that are more concerned walling opposing threats and disrupting teams with Psychic Noise, Knock Off, and Thunder Wave. Whether it’s ignoring passive damage completely or healing 33% of its health upon switching out, Reuniclus thrives against Pokemon that lack immediate power such as Cyclizar, Moltres, and Hippowdon. Once Reuniclus has found it’s entry point, it can set up with Calm Mind or distrust the opponent with status moves to support its team. It is kept in check by Pokemon like Jirachi and Bisharp that are faster and threaten it while easily switching into Reuniclus’s STAB. Reuniclus’s deep move pool, with access to Recover, Calm Mind, status moves like Knock Off and Thunder Wave, and coverage in Focus Blast and Shadow Ball allows it to pick and choose which pokemon it wants to lose to. However, this means Reuniclus will not be able to fit every move it wants to have for every matchup, and depending on the coverage it chooses, it can be walled by Dark-Types like Krookodile or Psychic-Types like Slowbro. Magic Guard Reuniclus relies completely on the now 8 PP Recover, so conserving this PP in longer games is crucial if Reuniclus needs to heal multiple times. Faster Pokemon with exceptional immediate power such as Choice Band Crawdaunt and Choice Specs Basculegion-Female can wreck havoc on Reuniclus’s team if given a free oppurtunity such as on an expected Recover or leveraging their immunities to Reuniclus’s common moves.

COMMENTS
Other Options

Psyshock is a notable STAB choice over Psychic Noise. Attacking the Defense stat hits Cyclizar for more damage, and can help Reuniclus win a Calm Mind war versus a faster Covert Cloak Slowbro. Energy Ball and Thunder can be appealing options as Reuniclus’ coverage moves, but both are walled by certain metagame staples like Jirachi and Krookodile that Reuniclus already struggles with. Choosing one of these coverage moves requires adequate team support to remove the aforementioned counters. Reuniclus’ item slot is fairly flexible, with options like Covert Cloak letting Reuniclus beat almost every defensive Jirachi variation, but otherwise offers little value as Reuniclus is unbothered by Toxic Chain and Scald burns. Regenerator Reuniclus can opt for Future Sight over a status move, coverage options, or Recover. Reuniclus is then better able to force switches from the opponent and can switch into a teammate of its own to threaten with a significantly stronger Future Sight than Slowbro in a similar role.

Checks and Counters

Pokemon with strong dark STAB moves such as Krookodile and Bisharp are able switch in on a Psychic move and force out Reuniclus. Jirachi also often forces Reuniclus out but instead using the threat of multiple Iron Head flinches to freeze Reuniclus in place until it faints. Jirachi had the added benefit of shrugging off most of Reuniclus’s unboosted attacks, even Shadow Ball when it is healthy. Cyclizar presents a defensive challenge for Reuniclus as well, as Assault Vest Cyclizar can still heal through Psychic Noise with Regenerator and will Knock Off Reuniclus’s item. Cyclizar can’t do enough damage to beat Reuniclus on its own, but can chip it down while pivoting out to a teammate that can beat it with U-turn. A good Reuniclus team should either pack the tools on Reuniclus itself to cripple or KO Cyclizar, or use another teammate to lure and exploit it instead. Faster Calm Mind users such as Suicune and Cresselia can boost alongside Reuniclus, staying ahead of it in boosts while blocking status from Regenerator Reuniclus with Substitute or Tera. In Suicune’s case, it even limits Calm Mind Reuniclus to 8 attacks with Psychic Noise with Pressure, though it loses to Psyshock variants without the rare Tera Dark.

While possessing good bulk when EV invested, this comes at the cost of a noticeable drop in power for a pokemon with a now uninvested 125 base Special Attack. This can mean that against strong Hyper Offense teams, Reuniclus cannot do enough damage to setup sweepers to stop them grabbing a boost. For example, Reuniclus will fold to boosted physical attacks such as +2 Bisharp Throat Chop or +4 Mimikyu Shadow Claw. As a consequence, Reuniclus will need teammates that can handle these threats once boosted.

Set Details
====

The Set Comments section will often consist of two paragraphs. In the first paragraph, you should go over the specifics of this set. What are the purposes of the moves, item, ability, and nature + EVs? There is no need to talk about basic STAB moves, useless abilities, or simple EV spreads like 252 / 4 / 252.

In the second paragraph, you should talk about potential teammates and what makes them useful. Cover Pokemon that can patch up the analyzed Pokemon's weakness and mention Pokemon that benefit from the analyzed Pokemon's presence.

Other Options
====

In the Other Options paragraph, you can note any other options that are useable yet not considered viable enough to be mentioned in the Set Comments. If there are none, feel free to keep this empty. Trying to fill this paragraph with bad options for the sake of it is detrimental to the user reading the analysis's experience.

**Insert Threat Here**: You should describe why the Pokemon is a threat. Please do keep in mind that it is often easier to insert whole typings and then specify the Pokemon of such type that are threats; this makes it much easier to keep track of this section for the audience.
