Remembering Raikou
Introduction
Hello once again, Smogon Forums, this is Dr Ciel coming at you once again with yet another RMT, but sadly, this one will be my last, at least until I can build a solid team that can compete in the X/Y meta once it gets stable enough. Anyway, this team is build around a rather nostalgic Pokémon & a rather nostalgic set. What is this Pokémon, you may wonder? Well, this Pokémon has had a rather checkered & painful path through the years. He dropped from the OU Meta with the transition over to BW, however, it still possesses the tools to still compete in the rather extremely offensive Generation. Okay, I know, you're absolutely begging to know what this Pokémon is. Well, the Pokémon that stars in this team is the extremely powerful Raikou, focusing on it's Sub + CM set. Now, you may be wondering, "Why Raikou?" Well, I'll tell you Raikou possesses the Speed of Jolteon, the sheer power of Thundurus-T, & the solid bulk of Rotom-W all rolled into one package. Before we start, let's analyze Raikou a little bit. Wielding base 115 stats in both the departments of Special Attack, as well as Speed, one of the highest in the game, almost guaranteeing that it will go first & the fact that it will deal some huge damage to your team if you don't have a resist for all of it's moves. Meanwhile, on the defensive side, Raikou is no slouch either. Possessing 90 / 75 / 100 bulk, he won't be going down easily to a couple strong attacks. Alright, I've babbled on for long enough, let's get to the team! I hope you enjoy it!

Fortuna (Breloom) (F) @ Focus Sash

Trait: Technician
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Mach Punch
- Bullet Seed
- Spore
First up on the team, is everyone's favourite mushroom in a role you don't see it usually filling, as an anti-lead & an early game hole puncher, if you will. I will lead with Breloom 100% of the time, as this goddess can beat 90% of leads, while only a few of them give her trouble. For example, Espeon is a common switch in to Breloom, expecting a Spore, he gets Bullet Seeded to death. The case is the same with Azelf, Bullet Seeded to death. The EV spread is the standard fare, nothing special or fancy to talk about here. Maximum Attack to boost her Technician boosted STAB moves & maximum Speed in conjunction with a Jolly Nature in order to hit a Speed stat of 262, which allows her to speed tie max Speed Timid Politoed as well as max Speed Jolly Skarmory. Now, let's get to the moveset, now that I've discussed her role in the team. Swords Dance is an amazing move to boost her attack to rather sky-high levels. Mach Punch is the next move on the set, which provides Priority, allowing Breloom to pick off weakened opponents as well at hitting Terrakion & Hydreigon for super-effective damage. Bullet Seed is another excellent move which also hits for STAB, breaks Focus Sashes as well as breaking Sturdy Pokémon, while also nailing lead Politoed, Hippowdon & a whole lot more. Finally, Spore is used for crippling opponents that it cannot beat, such as Custap Berry Skarmory, as well as other common leads I cannot think up of at the moment.

Sky Screamer
Sky Screamer (Latios) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
- Surf
- Trick
You only have to take one look at the stats of Latios' to see that it makes an excellent revenge killer, & that's exactly his role in my team, taking out faster opponents with the appropriate move while also crippling others with Trick. Latios is one of, if not THE best Choice Scarf user in the entire metagame. A base Speed stat of 110, putting it in a unique speed tier, higher than most. The EV spread is once again standard fare, with maximum Special Attack invested in order to do as much damage as possible (mainly with Draco Meteor) as well as Maximum Speed investment in conjunction with a Timid Nature to hit a Speed stat of 350, which calculates up to 525, outspeeding just about the entire OU tier, including Scarf Terrakion, +1 Volcarona, Choice Scarf Salamence, just to name a few. Alright, now we're going to get into the moveset. Draco Meteor is the obvious & obligatory STAB move here as it destroys everything that doesn't resist it & even somewhat frail types such as Scizor take a huge amounts of damage, despite the resistance. Psyshock is another solid STAB move used to nail Choice Scarf Keldeo, Scarf Terrakion as well as Venusaur in Sun, just to name a few, I know there are many others. Surf is an excellent coverage move that nails Heatran, Magnezone, & just about any Steel type Pokémon not named Ferrothorn for some heavy damage. Finally, Trick, the last move on the set, is used to cripple several walls that dare switch in to this fellow, especially the Pink Blobs, rather better known as Chansey & Blissey.

Mars
Mars (Landorus-Therian) @ Leftovers
Trait: Intimidate
EVs: 248 HP / 172 Def / 88 Spd
Naive Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- U-turn
- Hidden Power [Ice]
Landorus-T is the next Pokémon up on my team, as he functions as the only remotely bulky Pokémon on this team & he also provides Stealth Rock for me, while also acting as an absolutely All-Star pivot & boy does he do his job well, like no other. Alright, the EV spread may seem a little weird, but I'll explain it. You may be wondering why no Attack investment. Well, this guy doesn't scream for a lot of investment in the Attack department, hitting a stat of 325, which is enough to hit hard, even with no investment. The 88 Speed EVs in conjunction with a Naïve Nature allows him to out-speed & deal heavy damage to a lot of key threats such as Adamant Dragonite, Modest Heatran, Jolly Breloom, and standard Tentacruel, all of which are taken out with one of the moves on this set. The rest of the EVs are dumped into HP & Defense in order to allow him to take a lot of Physical hits. Now, allow me to explain the moveset, which is a little odd, but easily explainable. Stealth Rock is easily the most important move on the set, allowing me to wear down opponents while racking up damage with SR as well. Earthquake here is the main STAB move used for nailing a lot of threats, such as non Air Balloon Heatran, Tentacruel, as well as a whole lot of other threats, but that list is too long. Up next on the set is U-Turn, which allows me to steal momentum & put immense pressure on the opponent, while also racking up hazard damage, like I said before. The final move in this set goes to Hidden Power Ice, which nails Breloom, a rather large threat to this team, for super-effective damage, as well as hitting Gliscor & opposing Dragons.

Snowblind
Snowblind (Weavile) @ Life Orb
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature
- Pursuit
- Ice Shard
- Night Slash
- Low Kick
Now, you may have noticed that I'm a bit weak to Focus Sash Alakazam, especially the ones with HP Ice, despite having a Scarf Pokémon to cripple it, I didn't think that was enough. That's where this guy comes in, my Physical wallbreaker, he ever famous Life Orb Weavile, folks. The EV spread is fairly standard, with maximum investment in Attack for dealing huge damage in conjunction with Life Orb. Maximum Speed is obligatory with a Jolly Nature in order to hit a Speed stat of 383, allowing him to outspeed just about everything up to Max Speed Jolly Dugtrio & the after-mentioned Alakazam, which is a huge threat to my team. Now, allow me to explain the moveset here, my favourite one, personally. First up on the set is Pursuit, which nails opposing Psychic types that dared to switch into Weavile in the first place. Ice Shard is needed for priority, as well as picking off weakened Pokémon, while hitting Latios, Garchomp, Salamence, Gliscor, Dugtrio, as well as a whole lot more (that list is also way too long for me to write) for super-effective damage. The third move on this set goes to Night Slash, the obligatory STAB move for Weavile, nails every Psychic type in the OU tier for very supper-effective damage, often times grabbing the OHKO on most, due to its high chance to land a Critical Hit. Finally, we have Low Kick, which guarantees the OHKO on opposing standard Tyranitar, while hitting several Pokémon, such as Heatran, Scizor, & many other Steel types that are a real nuisance to Weavile.

- Hydro Pump
- Secret Sword
- Hidden Power [Ghost]
- Icy Wind
Okay, okay, guys, I know you're absolutely DYING to see the legendary Raikou in all of his glory, but I'm afraid that we have one more Pokémon to go through before we see the legendary Tiger-Cat, Keldeo, my Special Wallbreaker preforms his job absolutely phenomenally. Like I said before, Keldeo-Resolute is my Special Wallbreaker, as I equipped it with a Choice Specs, he can do some devastating damage to whatever dares switch into this legendary Pony. a Timid nature and 252 Speed EVs allows Keldeo to tie all opposing base 108 Speed Pokemon and beat out anything slower, while maximum Special Attack investment allows him to deal huge damage that anything that dares switch into him. Hydro Pump is obviously the main STAB move that Keldeo will be using, so it's obvious that the move is first on the moveset. Up next on the set, Secret Sword provides a solid secondary STAB attack that allows Keldeo to rip through Chansey, Blissey, Kyurem-B, and other Pokemon that won't be hit for too much damage by Hydro Pump. Hidden Power Ghost surprises Jellicent and Celebi, as well as the Lati-Twins, Reuniclus & a whole lot more on a list that is way too long for me to post over here. Icy Wind in the last moveslot allows Keldeo to hit Latias that try and switch in super effectively, with the added effect of lowering their Speed. Icy Wind also allows Keldeo to nail opposing Dragons such as Salamence, Dragonite, Garchomp, Haxorus, & many, many others should they try to switch in & setup on Keldeo.

Tragic Hero
Tragic Hero (Raikou) @ Leftovers
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 128 HP / 52 SAtk / 76 SDef / 252 Spd
Timid Nature
- Substitute
- Calm Mind
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Ice]
Now here we are, at the end of what could possibly be my final RMT for competitive Pokémon, but I will not leave you just yet without giving you the star of this team. Ladies & Gentlemen, meet the legendary monster, the legendary beast, the one, the only Sub + Calm Mind Raikou. That's right guys, I said Raikou, a Pokémon that has been left in the dust when DPP transitioned over to BW & BWII, Raikou faces a lot of competition from other popular Electric types, especially the likes of Thundurus-T as well as Rotom-W. The EV spread on Raikou is a bit odd, but I will explain it right here in my next sentence. The 128 HP & 76 Special Defense EVs ensure that Raikou will not have it's Substitute broken by either a Scald from Defensive Politoed after a Calm Mind boost, nor will it be broken by a Pursuit from Mixed Tyranitar. The rest of the EVs are dumped into Special Attack & Speed for obvious reasons that you already know & I don't have to explain. Finally it's time for the moveset. Substitute is the first move in the set, giving Raikou multiple setup opportunities, while also shielding it from those crippling status moves. Up next, Calm Mind is the main boosting move, bolstering his already solid Special Attack & Special Defense to sky high levels. Thunderbolt is the STAB move with the best combination of reliability and power, hitting an insane chunk of the OU metagame for super-effective damage. Hidden Power Ice compliments Thunderbolt's coverage almost perfectly, forming a combination resisted only in OU by Thick Fat Mamoswine and Magnezone.
