I have a really nice HP fighting timid Azelf, however I never really utilized the hidden power on it. Can anyone who's had experience with using one with HP fighting on it in shoddy tell me if its worth using on it? Also, I added a poll as to which Azelf set is your favorite, so feel free to discuss

I haven't actually used Azelf on a competitive team yet so take my post for what it's worth lol. But I feel that Naive Life Orb gives you the most flexibility in battle whether it's stat-up and sweep or blowing Azelf up to remove major annoyance on your opponent's team.

A mixed attacker is pretty much one of the best things ever in this generation. To neglect a 125 base attack stat, 115 base speed and Explosion seems foolish to me - he will nearly always be able to perform Explosion. The Life Orb isn't even neccesary to guarantee the OHKO on Blissey either.

I use the neive one, but I use focussash insted of Lifeorb and U-Turn (Well, I havem't used azelf in like 3 months, but I did this)

This sums up my status/opinion pretty well. U-turn is a decent enough move to use on a set like this as well, as it does a lot of damage to Weavile and TTar if you predict the switch (Blissey doesn't take as much, but if she switches in it allows you to get a counter in free, at least).

I guess i should put my own opinion. Despite his base 125 attack, I still think the nasty plotter is better, because its only main wall is blissey, and with her out of the way it can literally sweep whole teams. Actually, it can break through Blissey with just one nasty plot, although it'll likely be t-waved.

I agree. My favorite team is based around Azelf, getting it in, setting up, and sweeping. It's amazing how many teams are really destroyed once Blissey falls, or Regice/Snorlax take a little damage. Azelf can easily 4-0 or 5-0 sweep tons of the current OU teams as soon as one or two pokemon get KO'd. Timid / Nasty Plot / Life Orb for me, it's definatly dangerous. Explosion is just way to predictable from Azelf, since that's what most people run.

I have a Modest Nasty Plot with Psychic, Flamethrower, NP, and Grass Knot, but I like the Naive Orb set the best in general.

Naive Life Orb is my pick. It's just as fast as Timid, and still uses Nasty Plot and Psychic/Flamethrower. The only real difference between the 2 sets is that Naive uses Explosion (which, running off Azelf's impressive Atk stat can either weaken Pokemon or OHKO Pokemon such as Blissey) and Timid uses Grass Knot (deals with T-tar better).

Arguably, I think Naive is the superior nature. With Naive, you can still run a Timid moveset effectively, as with Azelf his Defense won't allow him to live through much attacks anyways. However, Timid cannot work well with the Naive moveset, as you'd then have to invest more EVs into Attack to get use of Explosion. So just imo, Naive > Timid.

I don't use Azelf that much, but when I do use him , I use the Naive/Life Orb set. This allows to special sweep effectively while allowing him to sue his ionly 2 good physical moves effectively: U-Turn and Explosion.

I actually caught a naive HP fighting azelf recently with 30 speed and 26+ in both attack stats.

Since Azelf wants HP fighting/Psyching combo + Explosion, it becomes a question of Nasty Plot v. U-turn, neh?

Which is better? I'm thinking Nasty Plot probably since the BP on my HP is kinda low . . . -_-

I wonder: is it worth it to go Naive on Azelf just for exploding? Timid Azelf can almost guarantee an OHKO on Bliss just fine without any investment whatsoever. Would be it worth it just to plop an Explosion onto a Timid Life Orb Nasty Plot/Shadow Ball/HP Fighting Azelf and go with that? I mean, I love Spiritomb's ability to abuse the Nasty Plot/Shadow Ball/HP Fighting combo, but it seems like Azelf pulls it off a lot better. It could also do a nice job of dealing with many of Azelf's "counters". Spiritomb still fucks it up, though. Spiritomb fucks up a lot of Psychic types, however.

What do you think?

200 attack is needed to OHKO Blissey with Explosion while holding a life orb. A Timid Azelf with no atk EV's has a minimum attack of 257, more than enough to guarentee a OHKO on Blissey. Why not run Timid over Naive?

Because Timid Azelf can and will explode on Cresselia, or any pokémon with less physical defense (there are very little) and no resistance to normal. Azelf has the holy right to go BOOM on whoever annoys it.

Azelf is the pokemon I have the most experience with. This is what I use (already posted in the starter thread but I'll repeat it anyway):

Azelf @ Focus Sash
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 36 Atk/220 Spd/252 SAtk
Naive nature (+Spd, -SDef)

- Psychic
- Explosion
- Hidden Power [Fighting]
- Sunny Day

Non-focus sash Weavile gets owned by HP fighting, and even if he isn't using pursuit to kill, you can probably switch to a proper counter, leaving him with 1 hp. ^^
Sunny Day works wonderfully when T-tar switches it, or even as a starter. You survive with Focus Sash, and have a chance to actually 1HKO with HP fighting. It may also provide team support for Heatran or whatever fire type you're running. Rain Dance is also an option of course.

Idk, Focus Sash Azelf is the most useful in my book. You could try Nasty Plot instead of Sunny Day if you don't fear T-tar starters that much. As for Explosion on Azelf, I think it's a must, since it really is that worthy.

Never used Specs Azelf since I find it rather fragile with all those faster threats out there, and most of the time you probably won't be getting a KO. Scarf Azelf, however, is also very nice, as you can put a lot of EV's in atk and have a nature that increases its special atk. U-Turn, HP fighting, Psychic, and the last slot could be either Explosion or Thunderbolt or Flamthrower. Switching in Gyarados after a DD and outspeeding him with Thunderbolt is lol.

scarfzelf is definitely a force to be reckoned with. outspeeding scarfchomp and scarf gar is pretty awesome. u turn is great for fucking around with unsuspecting weaviles.

TBH I'd always use Hidden Power Fighting, although not for Blissey. Tyranitar+Heatran is more of an issue. It's not you even really need Grass Knot anymore nowadays. =[
