Project RarelyUsed Teambuilding Competition: week 37: Resist Berries

While I wouldn't implement it the same way personally, I think eject button is an underutilized as a pivoting strategy on non-HO structures. Also Gapdos is really good right now (I'd say opportunity cost of running it is at an all time low since it dropped).

Fluff!

The other new drop this month is everyone's favourite comical pollution beast: Weezing-Galar. The blob that breaks showdown visuals and has the exact same stats and moves as regular weezing but now with a cool new fairy typing. Gweezing's physical bulk and typing are the big selling points. It has some important immunities, nice resists and not many weaknesses. It also has plenty of really good moves to choose from. Multiple ways to status the opponent, strong stab moves with annoying secondary effects, flamethrower, pain split, defog. There's a big grab bag to choose from. This diversity of options means you can fit it in a bunch of different roles on different teams, so get creative and share your results here.

Teambuilding criteria:
Your team submission must be legal in SV RU and have a Weezing on it.

Submission deadline: Teams should be submitted by 11:59 PM (GMT-7) on Friday, July 12th, voting will then go until 11:59 PM (GMT-7) on Sunday July 14th.

Itemless Geezing Double Fighting BO

Hello RU citizens, for this week's competition on Galarian Weezing - which I will henceforth refer to as Geezing - I present to you the itemless Geezing tech in this Double Fighting BO team.

I. Teambuilding process

:weezing-galar:
This week's contestant. Geezing usually runs Defog and Strange Steam, with the last 2 slots being some combination of Pain Split, Taunt, Will-O-Wisp and Flamethrower, with an honorable mention to Haze. However, I believe we can do better: Itemless + Thief is a tech inspired by a BKC video where itemless ADV Weezing was mentioned, and I believe it works beautifully here as well. This gives Geezing the ability to remove an item from the opponent's team as if it had Knock Off, and having no item at the start of the game does not matter as much as for other mons since Geezing will most likely eat a Knock Off from Krookodile/Gligar/Mienshao/etc very early in the game.

:goodra-hisui:
I then went with the 2nd drop from the recent shifts, and a natural pairing with Geezing. Assault Vest Goodra is a great mon to start building with as it handles every special attackers in the tier, including the headache inducing ones like Basculegion-F, Volcanion and Armarouge.

:jirachi::krookodile:
I then added this little 2-mon core of support Krook + Superachi. Krookodile is an excellent Pokemon currently that brings Stealth Rock, high-damage Earthquakes and Knock Offs as well as disruption with Taunt, while helping alleviating some pressure off of Geezing's shoulders thanks to Intimidate. Superachi pairs well with Krookodile and I wanted to try the set out, it helps that Jirachi also helps Hoodra by tanking special attacks that could add up quickly.

:slither_wing::crawdaunt:
This team originally had a Crawdaunt over Gapdos. Slither Wing brings a strong breaker with a great hyper offense matchup that can switch off of its bad matchups that the rest of our team handle well. Crawdaunt would bring a 2nd priority and one of the strongest breakers in the tier, overwhelming teams in conjunction with Slither Wing.

However, after testing, the team lacked speed control and Crawdaunt had trouble finding opportunities to enter the field.

:zapdos-galar:
I swapped Crawdaunt for Scarf Gapdos, who helps with speed control thanks to its immunity to Sticky Web, and has an easier time entering the field thanks to its Ground immunity, while keeping the double physical breaker dynamic Crawdaunt had with Slither Wing.

II. Set explanations

:weezing-galar: Defog + Strange Steam are must-have here. I already explained Thief in length in the 1st part of the post. I went with Will-O-Wisp since I never found myself clicking Pain Split a single time. Tera Steel stonewalls Revavroom and DD Iron Head Salamence.

:goodra-hisui: Classic AV Tank. Moves are nothing special. 140 Speed EVs allows Goodra to outspeed Pokemon that aim for 190 speed and outspeed positive base 80s after a Gooey speed drop. SpA and HP EVs are distributed evenly to keep both high damage and decent bulk. Modest 176 SpA EVs is a jump point. Tera Flying gives an immunity to Ground and a resistance to Fighting.

:krookodile: Classic support Krookodile, nothing to report. Tera Poison can help against Okidogi.

:jirachi: Classic Superachi set. Shadow Ball is chosen in the 4th slot to hit opposing CM Psychics, Mimikyu, and Armarouge. Thunder is not needed as Hoodra handles Waters, and Aura Sphere is redundant with our double fighting core. Tera Water for the Rain matchup.

:slither_wing: Silver Powder powers up First Impression and U-turn and lets us switch moves unlike Choice Band. Heavy Slam is a nice tech to hit opposing Geezing that otherwise stonewalls Slither Wing and prevents us from clicking Close Combat freely on Gapdos.
252+ Atk Tera Steel Slither Wing Heavy Slam (120 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Weezing-Galar: 282-332 (84.4 - 99.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

:zapdos-galar: Classic Scarf Gapdos.

III. Other options

Pain Split on Geezing is customizable, pick what you prefer. Hoodra's EVs and Nature can be changed as you want, if you have your own super secret spread. Jirachi can opt for a Calm Mind/Wish/Psychic Noise/Dazzling Gleam set with more HP investment and Tera Fairy for a better matchup against Pokemon such as Gastrodon or Wo-Chien, with the latter being able to Tera Poison to wall pretty much everything in the team. Slither Wing can run Earthquake over Heavy Slam to hit Okidogi and Tera Poison mons.

Well, that's it for me, team feels pretty good so far, have fun trying it out, and keep experimenting with itemless geezing!

Triple Poison Team (with Haze G-Weezing)
:weezing galar: :magnezone: :toxicroak: :krookodile: :cyclizar: :amoonguss:
So, I was experimenting a bit with Geezing and was thinking of ways to innovate it that hadn't been done. I however, was getting stuck at innovation and decided to just at first to go with the standard set. However, as I went along with teambuilding, an option on geezing opened up and I decided to take advantage of. But anyways, this team can wall a decent amount of the meta while dealing good damage back or statusing the opponent to cripple them. Also no, I did not intend for three poisons on the team, but it worked out so why not. :)

1720789187180.png
(side note, but please for the love of god, can somebody please submit a weezing galar pmd sprite, why is this not implemented yet)
So, the subject of this week's teambuilding comp, geezing is a mon that usually does one or two things, and not much else. However, this geezing set is quite unique. Of course, strange steam is necessary on any geezing, and pain split is quite standard. However, the next two moves are a bit unique. Toxic can quickly cripple anything switching in, as while steel and poison types usually set up on it then, the other move prevents that. The other move in question is haze, which shuts down any setup attempts that opponents might have and can really make geezing an annoying mon.
Now, before you say "what about wisp, that deals chip damage and cripples physical attackers". Well, to that, I say while that is true, haze has another application that cannot be replicated by wisp. With tera steel, it shuts down stored power sweepers easily. Necrozma can't do anything to it due to levitate, cress can't do anything with pitiful m-blasts and diancie does better but it it mostly is pain splitted on. I honestly find this big for dealing with cheesy stored power teams you can find on ladder which are very annoying, it can even beat a few normal calm minders if it plays its cards right.

:pmd/magnezone:
The next part of the squad, I wanted something which could take the psychic and steel hits aimed at geezing while also being good defensively on the special side. AV Magnezone fit both of those aspects. This is the standard set, but I chose analytic over magnet pull in order to have more power and I felt that the steel types the rest of the team could beat, though magnet pull could be used if you wanted to.

:pmd/toxicroak:
I next needed something to deal with rain. I wanted to try something other than volcanion and vaporeon, and I came across toxicroak in the lower ranks of the VR. This is just the standard toxicroak set, but it helps a lot in cleaning up games with boosted stabs and sucker punches. It's basically a 6-0 against most rain as long as you play around a kilowattrel.

:pmd/krookodile:
I then needed a ground type and a rocker for the team, plus a bit more speed in order to deal with the otherwise slow pace of the team. I decided on krookodile for this role. Now, the tera and three of the moves on this are standard. However, the item and fourth move are a bit of an innovation. Rocky helmet combines nicely with intimidate lowering attack, but endure really helps it. Maushold that thinks it can clean up a game will suddenly be in a rough spot and can get some more toxic chip if geezing needs to be kept around.

:pmd/cyclizar:
I wanted some more speed and some added utility, and cyclizar seemed good (and also helped with doing something unique this week). This is basically the standard HDB set, but I added on iron head to help deal with gardevoir and fez a bit and potentially get a flinch to help with toxic damage.

:pmd/amoonguss:
Finally, I wanted a bit more defenses to my team and a bit more disruption on the team. Amoonguss helped a lot with this. This is mostly the standard set, but I decided to use tera dark to help with psychic types and stomping tantrum can help deal with revavroom and steel types which usually wall it.

:umbreon::goodra-hisui::weezing-galar::hippowdon::terrakion::cyclizar:
The return of Umbreon fat.
With Cobalion gone and therefore one less super hard wall to Umbreon, as well as Umbreon's thick bff from SS joining the tier, I feel like now is a good time to bring back the ol' classic.

:umbreon::goodra-hisui::weezing-galar: the core: Weezing covers all of Umbreon and Hoodra's weaknesses, and in return they cover all of Weezing's Umbreon provides wish support that keeps the other two healthy. This time I decided to go with a more offensive Goodra after ttrying to find a way to fit more offense into the squad. Specs goodra just owns everything.
:cyclizar:: Cyclizar
:Hippowdon:: Needed a rocker and something physically beefy, Hippowdon is the answer. Hippo my beloved, it's simple but gets the job done.
:terrakion:: I wanted something that was fast and able to do some damage to round out the team and not make it fully passive. Terrakion fits well, being decently beefy and able to switch into attacks without dying since the team lacks much pivot support. It sneakily benefits from Hippo's sand and also can be wished back up in rare scenarios. A strong fighting type breaker is also useful on Umbreon teams to double switch in on Bisharp, and with CB EQ you can even double switch on Okidogi.

If I felt like I didn't have much time the last few weeks, it was even worse this week. Despite the lack of testing, this team has actually seemed to do pretty good on the ladder (for whatever that's worth) and usually it's poor piloting on my end that leads to general poor performance. I should have more time in a few weeks and then I can start really cookin like I used to.

:weezing-galar:
Well, the physical defensive stuff seemed overkill since this team has decent burn support. In the limited testing, maximum mixed bulk seemed to be the most useful. Basically the normal moves, but with Sludge Wave over Pain Split (or apparently Thief is what the cool kids run these days). Mostly for a little extra coverage. It had been Pain Split and sometimes Flamethrower and both always felt underwhelming/useless, so situationally, the damage potential on the second STAB felt best. Tera Steel because levitate + Steel is basically always good and it sheds the psychic/steel/poison liability.

:Bisharp:
Ok we got some Rock Tomb tech here! I was getting a little tired of the resurgence of Talonflame in this post-Moltres wasteland. Hits for some good utility with speed drops on the switch as well. Makes the bisharp mirror very rough, but we can't have our cake and eat it too can we? Otherwise my normal Tera Flying to flip a lot of end game situations. I'd say this is my used Tera in ~60% of games.

:zapdos-galar:

As I've mentioned, I think Gapdos is in a really good place right now since it's much easier to spam U-turn/Knock early game without the fear of Moltres (or Cobalion for certain sets). Basically, it's the completely standard set with Tera Fire to stop random burns (never used this tera in my limited practice). Scarf for speed control.

:gastrodon-east:
My typical Gastrodon set with Sludge Bomb replaced with Ice Beam. Makes Volcanion matchups a lot worse, but dancing around with Salamence can usually be ok. Originally it was supposed to be the special tank to pair with the g-weezing physical tank, but I ended up making G-weezing mixed bulk. Regardless, the grass weakness is handled very well by literally every single other teammate and as usual Gastrodon makes nearly all rain team matchups playable. Tera Poison for flipping that mentioned grass weakness, but in practice it's usually to survive a fighting move and get rocks down or Surf damage. Probably used this Tera in ~15% of games.

:Salamence:
I wanted something that could phaze and had recovery, but Hippo didn't really fit here. Next logical choice is obviously Salamence! Intimidate with the burn support helps this team vs most physical stuff. Hurricane is a little too inconsistent in my opinion. Max HP for defensive utility, 180 speed evs to beat Blastoise before the smash, but come to think of it, being faster than Okidogi is probably important? Hmm, well it's probably getting pushed to RUBL so moot point? Tera Water to improve the rain match up and flip ice weaknesses. Not used much.

:Entei:
Fire boi! We got a bit more standard this time. Tragically no place for poor man's Vintei here...
Heavy Duty boots to semi-bluff CB (ops assuming locked moves won me a fair number of close games), but mostly to lessen the need for clearing hazards. Tera Normal E-speed can clean decently when tanks/bulk/beef is taken out. Tera of choice in the remaining ~25% of games.

It was hard for me to move past my usual Conkeldurr priority+hazard removal, but I really wanted to run G-Zapdos and G-Weezing and it just wasn't going to fit in this team architecture. Honestly, for being pretty thrown together, I'm surprised how well this team did right away and some minor tweaks improved it a bit from there. I do really wish I had a little more time this week to iron out a few more modifications because it felt solid, but I'm sure there is place for improvement.

Yep, that's what I got...

...have a good weekend.

So I actually really like all the teams this week so I managed to make time to try them.

It probably helps that I randomly got the rain match up a couple times with the Toxicroak, but I'm kind of sold haha. I'm definitely trying this over Gastrodon on teams that need help vs rain.

Anyways, all very good teams in practice, but I'll give the nod to Heatranator

We're out of new drops and so we've got to go looking for older icons to focus on. Krookodile had a spotlight week in the V1 of the teambuilding contest, but a lot has changed since that time when fire-Tauros was still a good pokemon here. Krook served its time in NU, but now the protagonist is back and ready to prove that it is still the protagonist of RU in this post-timeskip teambuilding contest. Krookodile has everything you could ever need; it's strong, got nice survivability thanks to intimidate and it's incredibly diverse. Leftovers, scarf, band, intimidate, moxie... so many options to choose from. There's a Krookodile for every team, so make sure you find the right pet lizard for you and share the result here.

Teambuilding criteria:
Your team submission must be legal in SV RU and have a Krookodile on it.

Submission deadline: Teams should be submitted by 11:59 PM (GMT-7) on Friday, July 19th, voting will then go until 11:59 PM (GMT-7) on Sunday July 21st.

:conkeldurr::cyclizar::ditto::krookodile::rotom-heat::slowbro:

This team revolves around a standard Leftovers Krookodile with Stealth Rock and Taunt for utility. While most teams rely on Choice Scarf Krookodile for speed control and late-game cleaning, we instead go with Ditto, a very fun Pokemon to use in such an offensively oriented meta. Conkeldurr is a combination of insane breaking power and priority, using Tera Steel very well defensively to steal kills against the likes of Galarian Zadpos and Gardevoir who otherwise cause the team problems. Rotom-Heat is a deceptively good pivot with great defensive utility, similar to that of Cyclizar. Slowbro with CM and Covert Cloak can function as a defensive pivot and late-game cleaner as well.

Double Edge CB Krookodile (with a side of missing)
:krookodile: :slowbro: :cyclizar: :thundurus: :terrakion: :klefki:
So, I'm not going to talk a lot about this one, but this team is one that tries to setup CB krookodile for the sweep by using chip damage and para in order to deal with faster threats. Also, two focus blast users so you can lose games off of luck even more.

:pmd/krookodile: The subject of this teambuilding comp, I decided to lean into the power aspect of krookodile. This is the standard CB set with two changes. Firstly, moxie over intimidate. This means after every ko, krookodile becomes even more impossible to wall. The second, is tera normal double edge. This is inspired by an entei set which does the same thing, hit REALLY HARD. A normally perfect switch in of geezing is 2hit ko'd by double edge, and unlike gunk shot, it doesn't miss. Nothing really likes taking double edge, as normal resists can't take on krook's stab moves, and cc annihilates levitating steel types. Overall, a really destructive set that can rip through teams.

:pmd/slowbro: I needed a physical sponge for the team, and what better then slowbro. I decided to go with a supporting set and not the calm mind set. Scald can annoy physical attackers and future sight can set up deadly combos and t-wave can help against boosted threats. Now, focus blast is a little innovation here. Bisharp that gets cocky staying in might get destroyed by this move and take out a major threat. It can also chip mons such as hoodra and empoleon that might otherwise wall slowbro.

:pmd/cyclizar: I needed a special sponge and hazard control for the team, and cyclizar was both of those. Not much more to say, standard bike set that gets off hazards and is annoying.

:pmd/thundurus: I wanted a bit of speed control, and while a fast scarfer was enticing, I decided to instead use t-wave thundurus. T-wave of course offers speed control for the team and can stop an annoying mon in its tracks. Nasty plot allows thundy to boost itself up, t-bolt is a good stab option and focus blast means hoodra isn't going to infinetely wall it.

:pmd/terrakion: I needed some hazards and a strong setup sweeper, and terrakion provided both. This is mostly a standard rocks set, with sd to pose a threat as taunt wasn't too necessary, with stone edge and cc as the stab moves. Tera ghost allows it to set up on other fighting types and ignore conkeldurr's priority. The main innovation on this set is rocky helmet, as sash I felt would be mostly useless on this team. I decided on rocky helmet, which can punish u-turns and makes sure maushold never gets too cocky trying to set up, as terrak will at the very least heavily chip it.

:pmd/klefki: Finally, I needed a dragon type switch in andI felt more hazards would help with krook breaking. Klefki was that guy, as it helped with other mons too. This is just the standard set, t-wave to slow down threats, foul play to destroy boosted mons, spikes to get get progress and play rough as stab.

Wow, I think it's been a few weeks since I have submitted a team here, so here I am. Everyone better vote for me.
Anyways I have been building some fun stuff over the weeks with A LOT of Krookodile. So here is one of them.
:sm/reuniclus: :sm/krookodile: :sm/noivern: :ss/weezing-galar::sv/goodra-hisui: :sv/slither wing: https://pokepast.es/3aca935bf0a71b39

:pmd/reuniclus: : So after I saw Lizzie use MGLO Reun vs us in Week 7 of RUGL, I decided to build with it. Its a very powerful wallbreaker
Psychic Noise, Shadow Ball, Focus Blast and Recover is it's moveset. Psychic Noise stiffles recovery attempts from Jirachi, Salamence, Gastrodon, etc. Shadow Ball hits the other Psychic-types VERY hard. Focus Blasts Dark- and Steel-types. Recover so fat teams have trouble consistently leaving damage on this reun.

One of the mons Reun easily comes in on is Galarian Weezing, so both Krookodile and Slither Wing made great partneras they both provide incredible utility, in Rocks, Ground typing, Knock Off, Knock Off absorber (kinda), pivot AND priority.

:pmd/Krookodile: : Krookodile does its regular stuff, Knock N Rock.

:pmd/noivern: : This Mon is stupid annoying for faster teams due to it's superb speed stat (alliteration 101) and fat team thanks to taunt. U-turn can be used to invite in the likes of Fezandipiti which Reun again abuses. The rest is just standard vern

:ss/Weezing-galar: : There goes the pmd sprites. SORRY. Anyways, Gweez switches into the many Close Combats and u turns in the tier as well as act as an excellent answer to Krook and Slither, among other threats. Strange Steam coz Fairy STAB, Flamethrower to hit other mons like shitty Amoong (sorry fluff) and Rachi (its not broken FlamPoke). Wisp Taunt is a classic on anything honestly so like ya.

:sv/goodra-hisui: : Erm ye. Steel type- Fairy, Psychic, maus, water switch.

:sv/slither wing: : Boo!

:sv/krookodile: :sv/volcanion: :sv/weezing-galar: :sv/jirachi: :sv/zapdos-galar: :sv/goodra-hisui:

BU Krook + AV Hoodra

So, this week was all about the Kool Krok called Krookodile (yes, I'm doing a Donkey Kong thing lol). So, let's get into it:

:krookodile: starts off the team and instead of a rocks route, I went BU for cleaning late game. Also, nothing wrong with Knock support early on right? Tera Poison's obvious with Gunk too. So, with Krook in mind, I thought of stuff that easily switches in on it like Hippo, Amooguss, Weezing-G, etc. 'Knowing that, :volcanion: easily came to mind to deal with those guys. Gives the team a Water absorber, huge Fire resist, Fairy resist, and somewhat of a stallbreaker with Taunt. With this core, I needed a dash of Fighting and Ground resistance, :weezing-galar: was the easy pick here. Defog and Pain Split is its job while providing Will O support. I was considering Helmet on it and it can still work, but lefties is always a nice way to go. Every team needs rocks and a Steel right? Guess which obvious mon comes to mind that has those 2. That's right, :jirachi:! Another Fairy resist while also being a Dragon switch in alongside Weezing. It's your typical paraflinch set, nothing special. Looking at the team thus far, it needed some speed control outside of Krook, not to mention a cool Fighting type. Zapdos-G was the winner there. Mienshao could also work here (still could), but Zapdos has the right moveset to do what it needs and wants to do. Pivot on physical walls for Volc and Goodra to handle. Speaking of Goodra. :goodra-hisui: is the final teammate, and for good reason. A cool, strong special hitting and special eating mon that can resist Volt (since switching Krook into each one gets risky and in a hurry) was what I went with. I originally had Specs, but AV seemed better b/c who wants to be locked into a move when that's not what you were brought in to do right? I went Knock in the last slot for getting rid of Evio on Chansey among other special walls that need or want their item.

Team in action: Goodra doing work lol

:krookodile::empoleon::cyclizar::weezing-galar::thundurus::lilligant-hisui:

This team began as me attempting to shwocase the strength of taunt+3 attacks krookodile, but taunt rocks krook is just so good that I eventually gave up on gunk shot and used the free moveslot to give Empoleon haze in order to beat slowbro/reuniclus/suicune. You could use grass knot instead, but I found that damage wasn't really the issue with these waters since the team's fast, offensive duo can handle them.
Taunt on :krookodile: Krookodile can just singlehandedly invalidate a lot of fat teams. if you shut down Hippo's recovery on one crucial turn then suddenly your physical breaker can rip through their team. If you want some teambuilding advice for a new team, try pairing this krook with something like choiced gapdos or terrakion. Those mons can go crazy with a heal on hippo/chesnaught blocked.
When the team was built around 3 attacks krook, I needed a rocker and went with :empoleon:. Even after moving rocks onto krook though, I feel like empoleon provides really good value. The team needs something that can take hits from mons like garde and goodra then regenerate it off. Haze/roar gives you a way to beat bulky setup sweepers, something needed for this team.
:cyclizar: cyclizar is there because this is rarelyused.
I decided to go with :weezing-galar: gweezing because the team needed a sturdy fighting resist and dogi answer. It's helmet because it's the obligatory way to not lose to maushold and the team is offensive enough that you can get away with lacking longevity. Tspikes are good and help you wear down mons for krook, thundy or hilligant to win.
Finally I needed to give the team some fast offense and so decided to build a semi volt turn team with krook and Hilligant as two end-points that can punish thundurus's walls. Hilligant feels really overlooked right now. With moltres gone, there aren't really many mons that want to switch in. Leaf blade punishes our most common phys walls, I am the only person in the world running chesnaught, and alamence/noivern just die to one ice spinner. This generations Durant is waiting to return home to RUBL.

Here's a game where Krook puts in some serious work and wins the game almost on its own even after getting frozen and not thawing out for nearly 10 turns. https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/gen9ru-2164026184-h3wgcriluuswqraaba9ogcokaxyvmr0pw
