Project PU Battle of the Week [Week 9: big tony 2014 vs sufys]

Won the BO3 vs Ming.
Played with projected shifts using august usage stats:
Ban: Slowbro-Galar, Toxicroak, Scream Tail, Staraptor, Killowattrel, Wetbull, Bronzong, Frosslass, Gligar
Unban: Indeedee

G2: https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/smogtours-gen9nu-792565 (win)
G3: https://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/smogtours-gen9nu-792569 (Loss)

In order to spice it up we chose to go with projected shifts since they are just one week away. Sadly we could only whip up the august usage stats since september ones are not out yet.

Looking at the Banlist in here i quickly realized that Balance becomes noticeably flimsy losing Slowbro-Galar and Tauros Water, two of the best mons in the tier for this style. Other projected Bans such as Bronzong and gligar also take away two great ground switchins in the tier, losing one of the main defensive steel types also detracts a lot from potential balance cores. With these elements in mind, i decided to go the offensive route for my three team comps for this BOTW.

Game 1: Team (Psyterrain)

First off i wanted to test the new potential sole drop, indeedee, and i obviously had to go with a psyterrain team for this.
Pretty standard-ish looking psyterrain team featuring some heat from the past such as salac delphox and the alcremie that everyone loved to fight a few months ago. I believe psyspam would be quite good here as losing bronzong means that clicking Expanding force while not being choiced is extremely free with projected bans. As i said before, Balance being shaken means offense can thrive more than before so psy terrain seemed like a no brainer.

Game 2: Team (Duraludon Volt turn Offense)

Bronzong being gone makes duraludon freeup a slot in the choice specs set and also potential AV Glowbro could scout draco if needed. Teams idea was very simple, to bring in duraludon as much as possible. Mudsdale is there in order to stop a potential Tauros Fire and Grimmsnarl gives the team a Psychic immunity and decent Bulk in order to take 1 hyper voice specs if needed. While the game did not reflect the intention of the team (mainly due to misplaying and miscounting the toxic damage and getting extremely lucky), i could see volt turn into duraludon being very overwhelming in this fictional meta due to the loss of Slowbro Galar and Bronzong.

Game 3: Team (RedBUll + psyspam?)
Capitalizing on losing bronzong, Slowbro Galar and Tauros Water, i decided to load an offensive team consisting of two psychic spammers + 3 dark resists and hazards. The idea was to pivot if possible into indeedee vs opposing mons that could annoy bombirdier such as Mudsdale and Bellibolt and click away psychic moves. Additionally, the team would also attempt to trick choice scarfs enabling Redbull or Florges setup. Very basic idea with the addition of Gastrodon as a pseudo arcanine Check and indeedee + hoopa to trade vs a rotom heat or a delphox if necessary. On hindsight i should have made the Gastrodon Surf ice beam because rotom heat is a major problem, however, it ended up being slightly useful in this unexpected MU against Sticky Webs with the best bug in the game.

Overall Thoughts.

I do hope we get more drops other than indeedee. I expect the tier to fully shift to offense if we end up losing vital mons such as Slowbro Galar, bronzong, Gligar and Tauros Water. It was fun to build these teams but i wish i had more time to truly cook some other heat. Im positive the tier is going to have a blast cooking up new sets for existing threats or even bringing mons from ZU (or below) into the spotlight.

GL to the next Battlers in BOTW, this was very fun!

As SK has already laid out in his post, we decided to a bo3 with a projected post shifts tier off of the august numbers. For the first game with the tier losing out on some of the more prominent sp def guys I wanted to use glaceon who is a mon I've been trying to theory mon and work in both PU and RU. I figure with zong/wetbull leaving ice becomes a somewhat more potent offensive typing so I wanted to just get some twavers alongside big ice beam spammer.

I'm really really bummed this team didn't pan out bc it's been an idea I've also been toying with which has worked stunningly well in every test before this. The idea is just spam status with literally every other guy on the team and then get up a sub+plot with fat missy and get to cleaning. It didn't really get to show out any of that in the game due to a series of really bad luck and then some tilt which led to suboptimal play on my side.

Definitely the funnest team I thew together for this one. I just wanted to bring a Kricketune vs Scarf Kricketune and it worked out I suppose. I wanted to make it true to SK's name and have it be an actual Choice Scarf Kricketune but like, it is very hard to find redeeming qualities with kricketune lol. He is a webber tho, so I threw on Webs, put a bunch of breakers and a spin blocker on the team and called it a day which ended up working out in the game.

best of luck to whoever gets pulled for next week this was a great experience!

thanks to the participants of last week, it was definitely a fun watch! now since the tier shifts, we have a whole new climate (especially considering half of the best pokemon in the metagame rose) but hopefully none of our great players left along with the mons!
