PROJECT X (2010-2013) - THE BEST DUAL SCREENS TEAM MADE IN 2011 - REBORN

PJX_Logo_White-2.jpg

It has been almost 3 years since the founding of the original PROJECT X. I figured that it has past its prime so there would be no harm in sharing the team.

LISTEN TO THE AUDIO BELOW WHILE READING THIS RMT:-

Background:

It was during late 2010/early 2011 where I decided to centre a team around Blaziken. Alot of threats were rampant back then, with the emphasis on sand teams being more commonly sighted than a black person at the welfare office. Blaziken needed some support and thus I thought of utilizing dual screens to give it some support and space to set-up, you have to respect that space...

I thought of a Pokemon that takes advantages of the switch-ins to Espeon and that’s where Omastar came into play. Has good defense and takes advantage of both rain Dance and Sandstorm. From there I added a Pokemon to deal with rain, and more wallbreakers in the form of Haxorus.

Here is what the original PROJECT X - 2011 (THE MOST SUCCESSFUL VERSION) looked like:

In 2011, all the good players on smogon use to ladder on the regular and the ladder was really competitive (unlike nowadays) meaning that me reaching no.1 5 times with this team was something to be proud off. However that is nothing when compared to the amout of 6-0s and 5-0s I got on so many of the top players of today (and back then..you all know yourselves, I'm not gonna name and shame). Anyhow, dual screen teams back then were non-exsistent (they were seen in 4th gen) however when 5th gen started you never seen them, at least any half-decent one. Therefore this team was the first superb dual screens offensive team and I believe it paved the way and put a standard for all other similar teams to aspire to.

What I will be presenting in this RMT is the latest version, which is nowhere as fearsome as the original version due to the new metagame. I would appreciate it if folks can aid me in making this team more accustomed to the current metagame.

Without further ado..I present..PROJECT X Reborn - 2013 VERSION

Konan+akatsuki.jpg

KONAN (Espeon) (F) @ Light Clay

Trait: Magic Bounce

EVs: 252 HP / 4 SDef / 252 Spd

Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)

- Light Screen
- Reflect
- Rain Dance
- Psychic

This Pokemon is almost always my lead. The manner in which you play with it is simple. You set up screens and rain (if a ttar comes in on you) and bring in Omastar or Scizor. However sometimes in bad matchups, I don't fodder this Pokemon off as it can be useful at a later stage. I use Psychic since people think that their Gengar can get free damage on me apparently...not to mention set-up sweepers like Thundurus-T won't be getting off the hook that easily. Rain Dance can be replaced by baton Pass but I haven’t felt the need to really use that yet, however since alot of Ttar usually Crunch me, I don’t think it'll be all that useful. An original member of PROJECT X.

Usefulness: 10/10 Not replacable.

Kisame_1.jpg

KISAME (Omastar) (M) @ White Herb

Trait: Swift Swim

EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd

Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)

- Shell Smash
- Surf
- Hidden Power [Grass]
- Ice Beam

When in doubt, Shell Smash comes out. This thing is an amazing Pokemon and because Espeon 95% lures in Ttar, i get sandstorm boost which is great. Unfotunately this fellow has been slacking lately due to Techniloom being so omnipresent; in addition to Keldeo and Kyurem-B. These bw2 threats hold this dude down and I feel its time to let him retire. The moveset is pretty standard, Surf is for the mandatory STAB move and Hydro Pump sucks with its 0.0005% accuracy. Hidden power Grass > Electric for this team. I nuke Gastrodon as well Rotom-W, both whom this team doesnt really like. Ice Beam is there for Grass-types such as Celebi and Amoongus. Oh and also for Dragons. modest nature to hit hard and I almost always OHKO sp.def celebi after a shell smash, how cool is that. Suck on that hoe. White Herb can be forgone for Lum Berry and I have kept changing between them two, however i feel that currently, white herb is better.

Usefulness: 5.5/10 Replaceable.

Nagato_young.png

NAGATO (Latios) (M) @ Expert Belt

Trait: Levitate

EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd

Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)

- Surf
- Dragon Pulse
- Thunder
- Memento

Latios doesnt really benefit from screens and nor is it setting up anything, however it helps against Rain teams with Thunder in its inventory. It also is a realtively fast Pokemon, so it carries the team on its back sometimes. Dragon Pulse over Draco for consistency and Surf for stuff like Ttar (not really since I do like 30%). Memento is my favourite move on this set, it allows me to bluff that I'm choiced only to memento on another mon such as opposing Volcarona or Ttar to set-up with something else and WIN. EVs and nature is pretty standard. Like I said, expert belt is to bluff the choice item. This Pokemon has been becoming more of a star lately since Latios fairs really well in the current metagame especially with the removal of Landorus, so yeah.

Usefulness: 8/10 Not Replaceable.

ITACHI (Scizor) (M) @ Leftovers

Trait: Technician

EVs: 196 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 56 Spd

Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)

- Swords Dance
- Bug Bite
- Brick Break
- Bullet Punch

Just like Uchiha Itachi, Sciasuke can demolish whole teams. This set worked alot better in the past and I feel that it may need some refurbishing. Perhaps I should run a Acrobatics set? You tell me. This set comprises of Swords Dance for the obvious boost, Bug Bite is a nice stab attack boosted by technichan and Bullet Punch is Bullet Punch. Brick Break as I hated getting atk and def drops but hey, it worked so far. Nowadays Pokemon has become 'get fast or die trying' so I figured I'll attempt that especially with all the Tyranitar investing in speed, which really bugged me, no pun intended. This is my most valuable member after Espeon and I feel that the spread and moveset needs changing. I can't make any decisions now as I think the new moveset can be implemented after the remainder of the team are changed (by you guys of course).

Usefulness: 9/10 Not Replaceable.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

uchiha_madara_by_dh264-d5oix8v.png

MADARA (Dragonite) (M) @ Leftovers

Trait: Multiscale

EVs: 192 HP / 8 Atk / 200 Def / 108 Spd

Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)

- Dragon Claw
- Substitute
- Dragon Dance
- Roost

The newest member to the team. With Multiscale, Dragonite becomes a threat of a whole new level. However i decided to incorporate Taylor's bulky mono-attacking set and throw it in this team. It works surprinslgy well and almost always wins me game svs rain just because I set up on their sp.def Jirachi / Forrtress / Ferrothorn. This Dragonite can beat Donphan one on one provided it is at least at 90% health when they encounter, pretty cool huh? The downside to this is that you need 500 boosts to be able to outspeed scarf latios and keldeo. This really sucks, not to mention that its attack is quite bad as there is no investment. To give you an idea, Keldeo has a slim chance to live a +3 D Claw at 1%, pure foolishness that the legendary MADARA UCHIHA can't ohko. The speed evs allow me to outpace garchomp at +1

Usefulness: N/A/10 XXXXXXXXX

-------------------------------------------------------------

lineart_obito_uchiha_by_goldenswor-d5e4eeu.png

OBITO (Volcarona) (F) @ Lum Berry

Trait: Flame Body

EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd

Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)

- Quiver Dance
- Fiery Dance
- Bug Buzz
- Hidden Power [Rock]

This guy replaced Blaziken. A decent replacement however it will never accomplish what that fiery Chicken did. Fiery Dance wins me the game 100% vs Baton Pass teams while Bug Buzz is the STAB attack. Hidden power Rock is used to do nice damage to Dragonite, Gyarados, Salamence and opposing Volcarona. Lum berry is my choice of item since I just laugh at the futile attempts of Ferrothorn in rain or Jirachi to paralyze me to prevent a sweep. However..this Pokemon isn't as independent as Blaziken and requires way too much support. I wouldnt mind giving this one the boot in all honesty.

Usefulness: 6.5/10 Replaceable

To conclude, the current team has the potential to do better and despite alot of new threats in the metagame from almost 3 years ago, there have been times when this team pulled through for me in a few official tournaments. This team has been very successful throughout the years, especially during 2011 and was pretty popular back then. overall i am happy with what i achieved with it and hopefully I will be able to re-new it to be used in the future.

Thank you for reading.

Regarding a threat list, I won't make one but here is the most problematic Pokemon for the team.

-Hax
-Scarf Keldeo
-Scarf Garchomp
-TechniLoom
-Banded Kyurem-B

The original version of this team was a huge inspiration to me, and got me building teams and trying styles I didn't even know existed, I love it.
In terms of possible replacements for the current meta, it's kind of awkward to think of any, replacing Volcarona/Omastar with common double boosters could work such as Landorus-T, Thundurus-T, Terrakion, Gliscor. I would also strongly consider trying Bandnite, some suggestions I guess but to be honest, its probably best left untouched.
Great classic team.

This team is outdated as fuck but I still love it

Thanks alot

Great classic team.

Really appreciate the post. I have tried Terrakion in the past but to no avail but Double booster Landorus-T sounds cool. Several people have also told me to use Keldeo instead of Omastar so i can try that + Lando-T perhaps. Thanks for the rate man

The team takes soullllls! Classic sets like spdef zor and sub roost nite put in tons of work in any meta, and monsters like volc and omastar under screens just eat up teams. I like the synergy of the team, everyone sets up or helps others set up (memento lati). Omastar's only problem is shitty typing and slow ass speed. Back before the days of techniloom i could imagine how much ass it slayed. Overall very solid team and i witnessed u consume thesalty tears of WhiteQueen for the pound4pound tour. Delicious Tears!

I'm currently testing Gorebyss as an omastar replacement as Keldeo didn't turn out well at the end. Thanks for the post dude

Hey SOMALIA, solid team bro.
If you find the current Dnite underwhelming I would try CBnite, but only if you feel this is lacking.
Omastar for Gorebyss isn`t a bad idea, you can always pass the boosts (haha)
and if you want a more dedicated SS sweeper I guess you can try Cloyster behind screens?
I don't know, its hard to suggest anything really as you obvioulsy have been successful enough and know what this team can and cannot do.
:]

Hp ground > rock on volc. Heatran over dragons, if that is what ur tryin to hit. Pretty much entire team handle those threats

Might want to give the Passho version of volc a try, and give it gigadrain over HP rock. Since this is dual screens its not entirely necessary, so HP ground with lum is probably the best fit for your team.

As for Omastar, give Analytic starmie a try; it gives spin support if rocks ever do get up on your side and just str8 out destroys things. CBnite looks a bit more useful than DDnite for your team, since it lacks a scarfer and the extra priority is very appreciated.

Thanks alot Captain, Cloyster kind of suffers from the same issues as Omastar to be honest and its SR weakness doesnt help, Gorebyss seems to the best potential member at the moment. Much appreciated

Heatran has always been less of a problem than Dragonite and Garchomp and HP Rock also helps me destroy opposing Volcarona and Gyarados. However, since you took the time to give my team a rate, i will do the same by trying HP Ground and see how it goes.

I have been getting alot of requests to use banded Pokemon; to be frank the original version of this team never needed them and I don't think it will benefit me greatly, rather, it will make me more weak to stall and make me lose momentum if I mispredict. however, since this many people have told me to use it, I'll give it a go.

Analytic Starmie doesn't accomplish much bar spinning and hitting switch-outs hard. I'd rather use something that benefits from screens more. This team puts stupendous amounts of pressure on the opponent, therefore spinning isn't an issue as they rarely get many hazards up. Your rate is much appreciated and I will be sure to give Banded Dnite a try as well as that Passho Volc.

EDIT: Gorebyss has been working pretty good so far.

Blaziken, why.... :(

Anyways, I actually really like your team! I'm really glad I wasn't battling back in the day to face this team of yours.

First, have you ever thought about replacing Omastar and Dragonite for Kingdra? I've built a team with a Kingdra slapped onto it recently and it destroyed every single Rain team I ever faced. It has good STABs and has very strong nuking abilities in Draco.

Definitely try the SD Acrobatics set on Scizor. The set just destroys Tentacruels and Jellicent's that think they're safe.

That's it I guess! Hope you could renew this team next gen? Maybe Bkaziken will drop back down ;)
