PRIME PULT
:sv/dragapult::sv/primarina::sv/iron-crown::sv/samurott-hisui::sv/kingambit::sv/landorus-therian:

Hello everyone! After a year of no posts in this forums I bring you, The Greatest Team of 2024 SV OU! (Confirmed). This team was made at the start of Indigo Disk. In fact, this team was made DAYS after the Terapagos ban, during the sleep craze. The team is so old that bb skarm was still an active tryhard member of the community trying to get into SPL. The team got better after every ban because the Pokémon that stop this team were the most broken Pokémon in the tier; Archaludon, Volcarona and Gouging Fire. However, despite the age, the team still finds success both in high ladder and tournaments even until now, in December of 2024 even though the team was first made in December 2023. So with all that said, here's the RMT.

Proof of Success

Usage stats
Screenshot 2024-12-26 194107.png

Since no other team is sane enough to run quick attack on Dragapult, this is a good indication of the usage stat of Prime Pult on ladder in August 2024.

Building Process:
Before getting into the team I need to preface that the creation of Prime Pult dates back to DLC 1 with 2 particular teams;
1. https://pokepast.es/d84fa39ba86402c5 by matte
2. https://www.smogon.com/forums/threa...9-2-gxe-tauros-paldea-blaze-darkspam.3732291/ by me.

The team by matte is something I thoroughly enjoy using because of how brainless and easy it was to click Future Sight with Galarian Slowking, pivot into Dragapult and U-Turn into enamorus to put your opponent in a banded-specs-future sight cycle. Note that this was during the dreaded ZapKingLu meta, which this team completely destroyed. The other team is a tamer spike-stack team combining the power of Specs Pult + Samu and the unusually good coverage of offensive Tauros-Paldea-Blaze at the time. Both of these teams were my inspiration for building Prime Pult, with CB Dragapult + a strong Fairy and choiced Dragapult + spike-stack.

By the time DLC 2 came around I knew I wanted to remake matte's team spiced with the knowledge I got from my Tauros team.
After I made my first DLC 2 SV OU team that got #1 and the banning of Terapagos, the team was finally built. Here was the process;

image_2024-12-30_220300558.png

At first I did these 2 versions, rebuilding matte's team and testing whether or not Band Pult + Enamorus still works, but after some experimenting with bb skarm and Vert I found that Iron Crown actually fits much better over Slowking Galar with an AV set as an offensive SpDef Pivot despite people at the time thinking that Crown was a fraud and if it was to be used, you were better off running setup, never AV. After testing with crown, I found Primarina fits much better than Enamorus because of its great bulk and defensive typing while still retaining the power to break even the hardest stall teams.

With this in mind, I combined Primarina and CB Pult to create...

PRIME PULT
:sv/dragapult::sv/iron-crown::sv/primarina:

Now for the final 3; the defensive pivot, hazard setter, ghost counter, knocker, anti stall, and cleaner.

Taking what all these into consideration, of course I have the answer...

:sv/landorus-therian::sv/samurott-hisui::sv/kingambit:
These three make up other half of Prime Pult, taking inspiration from my older RMT.

This trio is incredibly versatile, basically letting anyone to slap their breakers of choice with the outcome always being a good team. With the 6 Pokémon settled on, it was now time to create the sets and round off the team as best as possible to face the meta-game. When creating this team, I wanted a team that I can still spam for fun, that remains effective and viable until the end of generation 9, which I believe I succeeded in creating.

Anyway, without further ado,

(also say hello to the mascot of the team, Pultagaki who i created a month before OUPL for fun but decided to use as a pseudo mascot)
Dragapult
Pokédex_Image_Dragapult_SV.png

Role:
The star of the team, Choice Band Dragapult. Ever since the start of the gen I've always been in love with banded Dragapult. It has deceptively great damage output (it shares the same attack stat as Ogerpon, but with a 1.5x boost from the Choice Band instead of the 1.2x from the masks) which makes it one of the fastest wall-breakers in the game, letting it dominate a ton of BO/ balance teams with the support of hazards. Some say that its linearity of move choice makes it predictable, however from my experience, I've seen that it it's not a weakness since Band Pult really only needs 2 moves to be successful; Dragon Darts and U-Turn.
Darts breaks through physical walls with enough time given its high 100 base power, and U-Turn actually hurts coming from its respectable base 120 attack stat chunking walls like Ting-Lu, Glowking, Garg and Dondozo pretty nicely. Not only that, the stuff that walls it's Dragon STAB, Steel and Fairy types, get pivoted on allowing easy entry for their counters. Corviknight, Skarmory and Iron Valiant all lose to Primarina while Primarina Garg, Toxapex and Pecharunt lose to Iron Crown. Dengo, Ting-Lu and Garg also lose to Samurott-H. This is just to name a few examples. Dagapult's other STAB, Tera Blast Ghost, is also absurdly powerful since 2HKOs mons like Skarmory with ease.
In games where its the fastest Pokémon in the match up, it can just switch in, click Tera Blast and claim kills as it pleases. This cycle is what makes Band Dragapult so fun and effective. It has completely different counters to Dragon Dance and Special variants and its U-Turn chunks walls and bring in other breakers in to counter its checks while also having a perfect match up vs slower teams since it just gets in and clicks Tera Blast 6 times to win.
Band Dragapult, despite having limited options, can easily surprise your opponent with "random" moves. It's so powerful that if tech'd the right Tera Blast type or move like Double Edge or Psychic Fangs or a status move like Will-O-Wisp, you're in for a potentially game losing turn. With this amount of power, ease of pivoting, and surprise factor, this set became my favourite set for Dragapult even before Charizard was released in SV and with the discorvery of matte's team and the polishing of Prime Pult, it has since become my favorite pivot and has solidified itself as the pillar of this team.
Set:
Dragapult @ Choice Band
Ability: Clear Body
Shiny: Yes
Tera Type: Ghost
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Dragon Darts
- U-turn
- Quick Attack
- Tera Blast

Dragapult is the main breaker of the team, and since I've covered its weaknesses with the other 5, I've opted to go for its STABs + U-Turn. Considering this Pokémon is deceptively strong especially considering its speed, coverage isn't needed since it relies on raw strength and prediction. Darts and U-Turn are its bread and butter move spammable moves while Tera Blast Ghost is used for breaking. For the last move I've chosen to go with Quick Attack.
Now the 4th move on Band dragapult is SUPER customizable. I've seen Double Edge, Sucker Punch, Wisp, Thunder Wave, Fire Blast, Hydro Pump, Psychic Fangs, etc. But I opted for Quick Attack because during the start of the gen, I noticed that I often chip Roaring Moon and Iron Valiant to really low %, and that trying to outplay Raging Bolt with sucker punch is a death sentence. So I decided try out Quick Attack and I found that it is very effective at picking off fast weak Pokémon that Sucker Punch couldn't without prediction. Quick Attack feels more consistent in most games since targets that are weak to sucker punch aren't really that big of threat to the team because they get beaten anyway by my other Pokémon while Quick Attack is important for grabbing that final 20% from fast sweepers, especially those that resist Sucker Punch or have set up moves. The EVs are standard 252/ 252 and the Tera is Ghost since as I previously mentioned, it dominates slower teams while also providing reliable stab vs Fairy and Steel types.

Primarina
Pokédex_Image_Primarina_SV_Blueberry.png

Role:
Primarina is the main special breaker on this team. Primarina has an easy time pivoting in with help from its teammates Iron Crown, Landorus-T and Band Pult. Primarina is able to both threaten and wall a huge amount of offensive and defensive threats alike, making it the anchor of this teams defense. It's bulk lets it offensively check Iron Valiant, Darkrai, some Iron Moth variants, Zamazenta, Roaring Moon, Dragonite, and many many, many other HO Threats. It's typing is also crucial for switching into dark types like Samurott and Weavile. In addition to all this, Primarina is also an amazing revenge killer being able to switch into those HO threats mentioned and get a big hit off. The potent pairing of Primarina with Crown and Samu also lets you abuse your opponent switching into Poison types like Slowking-G, Fezandipiti or Toxapex, who let Iron Crown and Samurott in for free to get easy damage off.
Pivoting in Primarina will be one of your best ways to revenge kill and make progress which is made even better with Spikes from Samu and the pivoting power of CB Pult. Against slower and bulkier teams, Primarina can set up with Calm Mind and 1v6 a ton of balance teams. Even without healing its natural bulk is superb making it a threat to both offense and balance while retaining its role as the teams main universal check to most attackers.
Set:
Primarina @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Torrent
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 248 HP / 76 SpA / 184 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Calm Mind
- Surf
- Moonblast
- Psychic Noise

The moves used are its STABs + Calm Mind and Psychic Noise. It's ability is Torrent because Primarina often gets to low health because of how many threats it has to 1v1. Torrent lets it turn Surf into a last minute nuke to break the few slower walls on the opposing team. Psychic Noise stops Amoonguss, Toxapex and also lets Primarina 1v1 Blissey in an emergency. As mentioned in the role section, Calm Mind lets it be a sweeper as well. The EVs are to maximize its bulk while being able to outspeed 201 speed Pokémon (the speed stat commonly used to out-speed Kingambit speed creepers). The Tera type can be more customized depending on what you like or what you will prep, however I chose Fairy here for its ability to NUKE with Moonblast while removing its Electric and Grass weakness. Tera Moonblast coming from a +1 Primarina deals gigantic damage which helps against fatter teams which I hate.

Iron Crown
Pokédex_Image_Iron_Crown_SV_Blueberry.png

Role:
Iron Crown is the teams main special pivot both offensively, and defensively. At the time of creation AV Iron Crown wasn't a common Pokémon.I like that it combines the power of Gholdengo with the utility and tanking ability of Slowking-G. It's a great anti-lead against a ton of HO leads like Glimmora and Ribombee and it's also a good lead into rain. It's main job is to switch into the many special attackers of this tier, especially Fairy type attackers. Fairy types have a naturally good mu against this team due to it running 2 Dark types and a Dragon, which means that Iron Crown's utility is crucial to the success of this team. It switches into Fairy types, clicks Future Sight and Volt Switches out of the specially defensive wall/ check/ revenge killer into the counter, which a lot of the time is either Landorus or Dragapult who can again pivot out with U-Turn and put the opponent in a vortex of Future Sight + 3 Volt-Turner pivots chunking their health. It's a classic combo of a strong physical sweeper + Future Sight but unlike Slowking-G, Iron Crown has a much higher special attack which lets its Future Sight chunk even specially defensive walls. Crown also has a good speed tier that also lets it check dragons like Kyurem, Hydreigon and Raging Bolt who usually destroy these types of BO.
Set:
Iron Crown @ Assault Vest
Ability: Quark Drive
Tera Type: Fighting
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 20 Atk
- Future Sight
- Tachyon Cutter
- Volt Switch
- Focus Blast

The moves are relatively standard on this Crown. Focus blast to hit Dark and Steel types (especially iron treads on rain which doesn't run max speed), Volt Switch to pivot, Future Sight to support your physical breakers and Tachyon Cutter as the spammable stab. A 252/252 spread isn't super common on Iron Crown since a small amount of defense lets it have a better MU vs Iron Valiant, but this team already has great MU vs Valiant and I want maximum damage. So despite it not being the most "optimal" spread, it works best for this team as my goal is to click Darts six times to win.
I'm running Tera Fighting since it is the standard for Gambit and other Dark types.

Samurott-Hisui
Screenshot 2024-12-30 211312.png

Role:
Dragapult is the offensive backbone and Primarina is the defensive backbone of the team which makes Samurott is the main supporter of the team. Samu is the teams main anti-fat attacker with Knock Off and Encore being able to 1v6 most if not all stall teams by getting up all 3 layers and playing a game of chicken with Corviknight on whether it should Roost, Defog or Body Press while you click razor shell and fish for the 50% defense drop. This is without even mentioning that clicking Knock Off and removing Boots from every Pokémon, lets Samu beat Alomomola, Amoonguss and Dondozo in the late game. Not only that, Encore also lets it stop set up sweepers, even those that should beat Samu like Raging Bolt or Clefable. When Samu is still alive, it basically tells your opponent that they cant set up and win yet. Even Pokémon like Iron valiant, Zamazenta or Roaring Moon who usually use Samu as set up fodder, fear Tera + slow Encore.
Samurott has the amazing Dark Water typing which lets it hard counter Gholdengo as well as beat walls like Moltres, Ting-Lu and Gliscor. It's main role however is to spread spikes. Spikes supports Future Sight + Dragon Darts as well as helps chip down teams for a late game Kingambit sweep. There's almost no Pokémon that wants to switch into Dragapult's Darts/ Tera Blast + Future Sight + a full layer of hazards.
In balance/BO games you will most likely try to double Samu in as the checks that pivots into Dragapult have a naturally good matchup against Samurott while and the check that switches into Iron Crown is most likely Ting-Lu. Getting it in on grounds means you either get huge damage off or a free Spike/ Knock. It's honestly impressive how this Pokémon feels invincible while doing so much damage once you know how to use it. Its utility is unmatched which arguably makes it the most important Pokémon on the team.
If you want to get kills, you get in dragapult. If you wanna tank hits you get in primarina. But if you want to win consistently, you get in Samurott.
Set:
Samurott-Hisui @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Sharpness
Tera Type: Fire
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Ceaseless Edge
- Razor Shell
- Knock Off
- Encore

Samu's moveset is relatively standard for a utility/ stall-breaker Samurott. Ceaseless Edge for Spikes, Razor Shell for heavier damage and fishing for the 50% defense drop, Knock Off to remove items and Encore to waste recovery PP from walls as well as preventing set up sweepers from setting up and sweeping.
Like I mentioned before, you have to get this Pokémon in on bulkier things that don't do much damage or that are weak to its STABs or a slower Pokémon that sets up. This gives it the facade of bulk due to the amount of things this switches into with little punishment.
For the EVs, I know theres a better spread with 20 Defense to be able to live Kyurem's +1 Scale Shot. However, I often get into games where Samurott becomes the teams dedicated stall breaker with razor shell and sometimes it BARELY misses out on kills on Corviknight/ Clefable by a hair using Razor Shell after a drop. These occasions make me not want to use the optimal spread and instead go MAXIMUM OFFENSE.
Samurott's Tera actually has a lot of options. Ghost and Poison are some of the most popular ones for being able to be immune to Body Press Zama to encore it or to resisting Moonblast, Close Combat and Horn Leech from Val and Oger respectively. I chose fire as it is the best into fatter teams who rely on Wisp Dragapult or Talonflame and Clefable to beat Samurott. Like I said before, have a deep hatred for stall.

Kingambit
Pokédex_Image_Kingambit_SV.png

Role:
The main tank and late game cleaner of the team; Kingambit. Gambit is the most versatile Pokémon of the tier and depending on the game since you can mold the way you play with it. If you fight a slow balance team with no Wisp you can just save this for the end, click SD once and click Kowtow and Sucker until the cows come home. If you fight a fast pace HO you can throw this out early to win a trade or two and let the rest of your team clean up. Those are just some examples on how I use Kingambit and I feel it is the optimal way to do so.
First assess the match up, what Pokémon does well against the opponent and vice versa, once you see what wins and what beats you, try to see if Kingambit can do anything to make that job easier like help break that one Ghost type or switch in and trade vs the Roaring Moon on the opposing team. Once you are able to assess match ups from lead, Kingambit turns from a deadly late game cleaner, to a Swiss-army knife juggernaut that can be used in hundreds of ways, so while its role may not be as clear as the other Pokémon, it is one that elevates this team to top tier status.
Set:
Kingambit @ Leftovers
Ability: Supreme Overlord
Tera Type: Ghost
EVs: 208 HP / 252 Atk / 48 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Kowtow Cleave
- Sucker Punch
- Iron Head

Kingambit's moveset is very standard with Swords Dance, Kowtow Cleave, Sucker Punch and Iron head. On this team, I am not weak to Ting-Lu or opposing Gambits so I dont need any weird sets like low kick or Tera Blast. For the EVs, I opted to out-speed Blissey and put the rest in bulk since the bulk of Kingambit on this team is really important for trading especially vs earthquake Roaring Moon and Tera Water Ivy Cudgel from Ogerpon. Going to the next important speed tier of 158 for Clefable cuts too much into Gambit's bulk so I chose to stay with 148. 2This is important since if Blissey moves first, it's able to throw a Thunder Wave which with a few unlucky turns can turn the battle sour.
The Tera I opted for is ghost as it is the best neutral defensive Tera. Losing weakness to ground and fire while being also able to 1v1 Zamazenta in the long run is huge.

Landorus-Therian
LandorusDuel551.png

Role:

Its Landorus. You know what it does. But if I were to give a brief explanation, its main role on this team is to be the physically defensive tank. It's the check to EVERY physical attacker. If you're in a pinch, Tera Water can let you check Water types in rain and Ice type physical attackers. In most games it is able to beat every physical sweeper such as Curse Dozo with Grass Knot and ID Zama with Earth Power and Rocky Helmet. Theres honestly not much to say. It's Landorus. You switch it in on physical attackers and kill them or pivot out.
Set:
Landorus-Therian (M) @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Intimidate
Tera Type: Water
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 Spe
Bold Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Earth Power
- U-turn
- Grass Knot

This moveset is very standard. Stealth Rock for hazards, Earth Power for strong STAB, U-Turn to pivot and Grass Knot to give the hurt on Great Tusk, Palafin and Dondozo. I'm using this over Taunt because my Landorus is extremely slow so taunt has very few targets.
For EVs, its 252/252 HP and Defense, with the 4 speed to out-speed Jolly Kingambit 100% of the time. Tera Water is used so i can beat Ice Spinner tusk that has boosted too much as well as to beat physical rain threats.

With all that being said, lets see the team in action!

Now time for the team's weaknesses...
IMG_4268.jpg

Too late.

Weakness

Fast Offensive Grass types that beats Landorus
:meowscarada::ogerpon::ogerpon-wellspring:

Meowscarada, Wellspring and Tealmask are some of the most annoying matchups for this team, as my main counter to physical Grass types are Landorus, Kingambit and Dragapult. These 3 Pokémon beat Landorus and Dragapult with their most common sets; Scarf Meow, standard Wellspring and boots + Tera Grass for Tealmask. With the addition of Low Kick, they also beat Kingambit.
In these match ups, I usually always lead Landorus vs Meowscarada and double to Kingambit on Triple Axel. If I predict Low Kick, I go to Primarina since Meow never clicks Flower Trick on Lando. Against Tealmask, I always keep my Tera for Samurott so I can knock it off and beat it slowly with hazards. Versus Wellspring I usually just switch into Dragapult on Ivy or Kingambit on a predicted Knock/ Play Rough since gambit can live 2 Cudgels.

Zapdos
:zapdos:

Versus Zapdos, go to Iron Crown and click Future Sight and pray for the best. Even if you get paralysed, it's worth since you can slow pivot. Lead Zapdos always gets a free para vs the team so its something you should always ready a sack which in most cases is Iron Crown because it can take any hit Zap throws at it without worrying about speed. However once Zapdos switches out its much easier to handle as it's very prone to getting knocked by Samu and it also gets 2HKO'd on the switch by Pult.

Raging Bolt
:raging-bolt:

Dragapult is your raging bolt counter which sucks when they terastalizes to fairy and kill you with pulse, so the play i would do is go iron crown, volt out to dragapult on the thunderbolt, hard samurott on thunderclap and encore, but if its too risky i would go hard crown first and spam focus blast. Its a very unintuitive way to beat bolt but once u fight enough bolts it becomes quite obvious.

My good friend devin, who played for the OUPL Prime Pults also created this version of the team which he dubbed Ultimate Pult to be more modernized, and also fits his taste better, so if you dont like the OG prime pult, give this a shot

Conclusion

Man, what a year. Going from a ladder hero to a mid-level tournament player. While its not the growth I would've loved seeing since some people who started around my time are rising to be stars of Smogon. Despite this, I'm still proud of my growth. This team resembles everything I love about Pokémon. High risk, high reward plays with Choice Band Dragapult and the excitement I get from sweeping with Kingambit and Primarina as well as the dopamine boost I get outplaying entire teams with Encore Samurott. I love this team so much and it is far and away my favourite team I've built. I admit I beat this horse to death spamming it in EVERY TOUR from SPL, OLT, SmogTours, OST, even SCL last month, not to mention the amount of times I've used this team on ladder and side tours. However I think its time for me to give this team a proper send off. It served me well for a year, and even though this team is perfectly fine for the current meta even during Palafin hell. If I want to grow as a player and I need to grow as a person, and if I want to grow as a person I need to let go of the past and go beyond comfort. Comfort is what Prime Pult is for me, and it is a year old so it has become my past. With that being said, I hope everyone enjoys this read and would use Prime Pult for me on the ladder. God knows how much I've used this team and reach #1 rank with it. I even broke the usage stats with this team making Quick Attack a very commonly used move on Dragapult.

I want to say thank you to some of my best friends in mons especially those who help me grow as a player and help me build.
Vert ima leng loi georgiethefirst Cicada devin hellom haxrme Storm Zone 3d are some of the people who help me grow the most this year as a player and builder and I thank y'all so much for it. This game and community has been some of the most fun I've had just with the sheer amount of time and effort I've put in.

special thanks to Vert and bb skarm for helping me brainstorm this team very early in the meta (Since pre-Archaludon rain dominance) and helping to perfect it to what it is we have today. Oh and huge shoutouts to matte for the biggest inspiration for Prime Pult with his Enamorus + Band Pult team in dlc 1, and additional thanks to Slowpoke Fan for helping me design the Prime Pult mascot Pultagaki.

oh and ACR1 said he wants a shoutout too so hi!

I hope y'all had a good read! Leave a like and vote for this team as the best RMT!!!
Without further ado...

Gonna give up on the Gen 9 RMT Forum with honor. Been through about 50 versions of Prime Pult and its almost 12pm on Monday. Only 32 people have liked this apparently. That's all the people left who care about this Horrible Prime Pult format. Primarina will never be banned because of "Policy" (Kafkaesque Made up nothing)The past few days have genuinely been the worst experience I've ever had in Pokemon. Getting reqs for the Palafin suspect was a much smoother experience. That meta had Wogre and Raging Bolt. I'd sooner play That again than this Filth.Don't ban Dragapult actually. Bring Shed Tail back too. Why not. Shed Tail Orthworm might spice things up. Genuinely wouldn't even make the format that much worse. They banned Brightpowder need I remind you. That's important. Glad we tackled that pressing issue. Let's send Shed Tail into the furnace why don't we. Now that I have seen Gen 9 OU for what it truly is this is the worst OU format of all time easily. I was fed a lie. Even Gen 4 OU has some semblance of structure and logic. This format is pure chaos with not a single fun or enjoyable strategy in sight. Happy Holidays.
