Draft Porygon-Z

Status
Not open for further replies.
[overview]
**Draft Order**: Round 6 onwards

**Price Range**: 8-9 points

**Overview**: Porygon-Z serves as a mid-point sweeper and wallbreaker, using its access to both Nasty Plot and Agility to quickly take over games if it is allowed time to set up. Choice item sets also see use, especially Choice Scarf with its secondary ability Download, allowing it to get a boost against physically defensive Pokemon while maintaining its offensive pressure against its potential checks. While Porygon-Z can be incredibly threatening given enough time, its lack of bulk, underwhelming Speed tier, and reliance on both setting up and multiple coverage moves can cause it to struggle. This is especially true on Double Dance sets, where finding two turns to set up is often a large ask.

[strategy comments]
Common Roles
========
**Setup Sweeper**: Agility allows Porygon-Z to clean up late-game against chipped opposition, while Nasty Plot can allow it to muscle through would-be checks. Double Dance sets are also available if it is able to get in against passive Pokemon.

**Revenge Killer**: Choice Scarf can enable Porygon-Z to clean up threats with its STAB Tri Attack. This also means that most Pokemon are wary of switching into it, as they risk being inflicted with status effects. Using Download over Adaptability can also enable Porygon-Z to keep access to a damage boost, especially when it is using non-STAB moves.

**Wallbreaker**: Choice Specs, Life Orb, and Expert Belt can all serve to solidify Porygon-Z as a decent mid-game wallbreaker. Naturally having access to BoltBeam coverage allows it to hit most things for at least neutral damage, and with its Normal-Type STAB moves boosted by Adaptability, it can threaten most foes.

Common Moves
========
**Primary STAB Moves**: Tri Attack

**Setup Moves**: Nasty Plot, Agility

**Utility Moves**: Thunder Wave, Trick, Recover, Substitute

**Coverage**: Ice Beam, Thunderbolt, Dark Pulse, Shadow Ball, Psyshock, Psychic, Tera Blast

Niche Moves
========
**Hyper Beam**: An Adaptability-boosted Hyper Beam from Porygon-Z can result in shocking damage and is useful for guaranteeing the removal of opposing offensive threats. It is traditionally used on Choice Scarf sets, as Porygon-Z is able to trade itself after it is chipped or to secure an advantageous match late-game.

Common Items
========
**Damage-boosting Items**: Life Orb and Expert Belt both help Porygon-Z reliably break through foes once it is set up. Silk Scarf is another option to stack with its Adaptability boost.

**Choice Scarf**: Choice Scarf fixes Porygon-Z's middling Speed tier while still maintaining adequate coverage. Download is usually preferred over Adaptability on these sets to ensure that Porygon-Z can pick up necessary KOs without relying on Terastallization. Trick can also enable Porygon-Z to cripple defensive Pokemon, setting up itself or another wallbreaker to clean up later.

**Choice Specs**: Choice Specs allows Porygon-Z to put out unexpected damage against unprepared foes. Running Download allows Porygon-Z to more reliably break through foes that resist Normal, while Adaptability can crush even Normal-resistant walls that are not ready for it.

Niche Items
========
**Mental Herb**: As Porygon-Z is often a setup Pokemon, Encore and Taunt can be useful moves for foes attempting to stop it before it gets out of hand. Mental Herb denies this option, but as a trade-off, it sacrifices the often-necessary damage boost from its other options.

**Lum Berry**: Lum Berry cures Paralysis, which can be annoying for Porygon-Z if it doesn't get the opportunity to setup a Substitute first, especially against faster Thunder Wave users, or if it requires the moveslot for extra coverage.

**Chople Berry**: Chople Berry can aid Porygon-Z in finding an extra turn to set up, often letting it survive random Fighting-type coverage, and threatening to KO or status does with Tri Attack, especially against offensive Pokemon that would otherwise take advantage of Porygon-Z's lackluster defenses.

**Leftovers**: Leftovers allows Porygon-Z to remain in the game a bit longer without sacrificing coverage with Recover. It also can be useful on Substitute sets to allow an extra setup opportunity.

Tera
========
Porygon-Z is an excellent secondary Tera Captain, as Adaptability is able to stack with the boost Terastallization provides, making its chosen coverage option significantly more threatening. Due to this, Porygon-Z can realistically run whatever Tera type gives it the most advantages offensively in a given matchup. As for some more common options, Tera Ghost can be used to offset its Fighting weakness while allowing it to break through opposing Ghost-types that would attempt to wall its Normal-type STAB moves. Tera Fighting can threaten the Rock- and Steel-types that would normally resist its primary attacking options. Tera Normal is often less valuable than adding an extra coverage option, as the boost is not that significant, and Adaptability is more threatening when it's boosting Porygon-Z's coverage moves. After Terastallizing, Adaptability stops boosting Porygon-Z's Normal-type STAB moves, so it's important to consider this when choosing to Terastallize Porygon-Z. Download does not face this dilemma, but often the extra damage on Tera Blast is more valuable. Even with Terastallization, Porygon-Z cannot break through a lot of teams on its own and as such faces tough competition from higher-tier Tera Captains. As a secondary captain though, it does have the ability to muscle through a surprising amount of games when your primary captain cannot find an avenue to win.

Draft Strategy
========
Porygon-Z serves as a solid wallbreaker that can enable its teammates by breaking through their checks. With its access to setup moves, it can also can find late-game scenarios to sweep. Porygon-Z generally appreciates pivots in order to get in a good position to wallbreak or sweep. It is also appreciated by other offensive threats, as its ability to spread status through Tri Attack as well as its access to decent coverage options can often open up holes for partners to clean up when it is unable to.

**Pivots**: Porygon-Z does not switch into most offensive threats, and defensive walls threatening it with Toxic or Thunder Wave are also quite troublesome. Allowing a Download or Choice item set safe entry can help it wallbreak significantly easier. This is especially true when it's paired with physical pivots such as Meowscarada and Palafin, letting Porygon-Z immediately threaten their regular checks with its potential Download boost or attempt to status walls with Tri Attack. The Ogerpon formes uniquely appreciate Porygon-Z's access to BoltBeam coverage to remove Flying-types that would otherwise be somewhat annoying.

**Entry Hazard Support**: Entry hazards ensure that the opposing team will be chipped down for Porygon-Z's late-game opportunities and that defensive walls that would normally check it will be in range for a potential 2HKO. Spikers such as Overqwil, Klefki, and Clodsire and common Stealth Rock users such as Glimmora, Uxie, and Swampert are all appreciated. Role compression from Pokemon like Donphan and Brambleghast is also appreciated, since Porygon-Z does not contribute towards the hazard game.

**Speed Control**: With base 90 Speed, Porygon-Z often relies on teammates to stop faster threats. Choice Scarf can offset this weakness somewhat, but since Porygon-Z usually likes to be in a position to set up and sweep, removing faster threats can allow it to forgo Agility on its typical setup sets. Meowscarada, Greninja, Cinderace, and Darkrai all help alleviate this issue.

**Fighting-resistant Pokemon**: Porygon-Z has only a single weakness to Fighting, so pairing it with a solid defensive answer to common Fighting-types is key. Pecharunt, Enamorus-T, and Brambleghast are all solid partners in this regard. Compressing this role with a pivot is also appreciated, allowing Porygon-Z to come right back in whenever it is required, with Pokemon such as Tornadus-Therian, Uxie, and Gliscor being good examples.

Checks and Counters
========
**Fast Offensive Threats**: Porygon-Z is typically able to stomach a single hit from most threats, but without being allowed the extra turn to set up, it can struggle to get in position to break through the opposing team. Iron Moth, Greninja, Cinderace, and the Ogerpon formes all force progress against Porygon-Z's subpar defenses and dissuade it from getting greedy with Nasty Plot sets through the damage they threaten against it.

**Special Walls**: While Porygon-Z can boost its damage output with Nasty Plot, it often needs a decent amount of chip damage against many bulkier special walls to break through, and it is not usually able to take retaliation all that well. Pokemon like Hisuian Goodra, Blissey, Florges, and Sylveon can all give Porygon-Z trouble while denying setup opportunities either through status effects or damage output.

**Fighting-types**: Offensive Fighting-types are a bane to Porygon-Z, hitting it very hard while often requiring Porygon-Z to either set up or Terastallize before it is able to handle them. Iron Hands, Iron Valiant, Cobalion, and Terrakion are quite troublesome, with Cobalion being especially annoying due to having normal resistance and the bulk to check it multiple times.

**Normal-resistant Pokemon**: Porygon-Z's coverage is often not reliable enough to break through common Normal-resistant Pokemon, especially without access to Terastallization or when they have access to reliable recovery. Pokemon like Gholdengo, Heatran, Diancie, and Hisuian Goodra are all quite annoying for Porygon-Z to find an opportunity to break through, and with its middling defenses, Porygon-Z is often not safe from the retaliation that they may dish out.

**Overview**: Porygon-Z serves as a mid-point sweeper and secondary Tera captain, and wallbreaker, using its access to both Nasty Plot and Agility to quickly take over games if allowed time. Adaptability being only available on its normal stab would be a downside, but giving Porygon-Z access to Tera allows it to choose what checks it. elaborate on some downsides here, lack of bulk, rough speed tier, download being inconsistent, 4mss. Its an 8 point mon it can't be all positive. also move most of the tera discussion to the tera section
[strategy comments]
Common Roles
========
**Setup Sweeper**: Agility allows Porygon-Z to clean up an endgame against chipped opposition, while Nasty plot can allow it to muscle through would-be checks. Double-dance sets are also available if it is able to get in against passive Pokemon, or use its Tera typing as well as some bulk investment to gain extra turns and take over a game.

**Revenge Killer**: Choice Scarf can enable Porygon-Z to cleanup threats with its stab Tri Attack. This also means that most Pokemon are wary of switching into it, as they will usually end up with a status condition as a result. risk being inflicted with status. its still a 30% chance to status that isn't usually. Using Download over Adaptability can also enable Porygon-Z to keep access to a boost, especially when specializing in coverage for an opposing match-up that would normally resist its stabs. using moves not boosted by Adaptability.

**Wallbreaker**: Choice Specs, Life Orb, and Expert Belt can all serve to solidify Porygon-Z as a decent mid-game wallbreaker. Naturally having access to boltbeam coverage allows it to hit most things for at least neutral damage, and with its normal stab boosted by Adaptability, it can threaten unexpected damage for those preparing for a different set. most foes.

Common Moves
========
**Primary STAB Moves**: Tri Attack, Hyper Beam Move to Niche

**Setup Moves**: Nasty Plot, Agility, Trick Room, Substitute

**Utility Moves**: Thunder Wave, Trick, Recover

**Coverage**: Ice Beam, Thunderbolt, Dark Pulse, Shadow Ball, Psyshock, Psychic

Niche Moves
========
**Hyper Beam**:

**Double-Edge/Giga Impact**: Adaptability makes up for Porygon-Z's low attack stat and enables it to surprise checks investing fully in special defense, or opponents relying on naturally specially bulky Pokemon such as Blissey. I'll leave this but honestly unless its a blissey idk when you would pick these over a coverage move, and even then you aren't going to kill the wall so just switch.

**Rest**: With a Chesto Berry, Porygon-Z can alleviate itself of a crippling status ailment and ensure itself a better position later in the game. Primarily useful against Toxic Spikes since Porygon-Z can rarely afford to run Heavy-Duty Boots.

Common Items
========
**Damage-boosting Items**: Life Orb and Expert Belt both serve to keep Porygon-Z able to reliably break through once setup. Silk Scarf is another option to stack with its Adaptability boost.

**Choice Scarf**: Choice Scarf fixes Porygon-Z's middling speed tier, while still maintaining adequate coverage. Download is usually preferred over Adaptability on these sets to ensure Porygon-Z can pick up necessary KOs without relying on Tera, though Adaptability can be ran if opting for Hyper Beam to take care of dangerous threats. an opponent lacks good Normal-type resists. Trick can also enable Porygon-Z to cripple defensive Pokemon, setting up itself or another breaker to clean up the game later.

**Choice Specs**: Choice Specs allows Porygon-Z to put out unexpected damage against unprepared foes. Running Download essentially allows Porygon-Z to have access to a permanent Nasty Plot, idk if download is consistent enough to say this honestly while Adaptability can crush through common resists walls that are not ready for it.

Niche Items
========
**Leftovers**: Porygon-Z is usually single-use, maybe a rewod is needed, this statement doesn't make much sense but Leftovers allows it to remain a bit longer without sacrificing coverage with Recover. Also can be useful on Substitute sets to allow an extra setup opportunity.

**Mental Herb**: As Porygon-Z is primarily a setup Pokemon, Encore and Taunt can be useful items to attempt to stop it before it gets out of hand. Mental Herb denies this option, but as a trade-off sacrifices the often necessary damage boost from other options.

**Chesto Berry**: mentioned rest above so mention chesto here as well
Tera
========
Porygon-Z is an excellent secondary Tera captain, as Adaptability is able to stack with the Tera boost making its chosen coverage option significantly more threatening. mention that using tera loses the boost to normal type moves through adaptability. Due to this, Porygon-Z can realistically run whatever Tera type gives it the most advantages offensively in a given match-up. As for some more common options, ghost can be used to offset its fighting weakness, while allowing it to break through opposing ghost types who would attempt to wall its normal stab. Fighting is also useful as it is able to threaten the rock and steel types that would normally resist its primary attacking options. Also generally this is super positive of PZ as a tera cap and while its good you talk like it is going to be using tera every game which you really shouldn't be doing.

Draft Strategy
========
Porygon-Z appreciates pivots in order to get it in the correct position to sweep. It also appreciates other offensive threats to weaken the opposing team in order to secure a sweep. expand a bit more here

**Pivots**: Porygon-Z does not switch in against most offensive threats, and defensive walls threatening it with Toxic or Thunder Wave are also quite annoying. So allowing it entry with Download or Choice sets can allow it to wallbreak significantly easier. This is especially true when paired with physical pivots such as Meowscarada or Palafin, letting Porygon-Z immediately threaten their regular checks with its potential Download boost, or guarantee an opportunity to status its own walls with Tri Attack. threaten foes with Adaptability boosted moves.

**Entry Hazard Support**: Entry hazards ensure that the opposing team will be chipped down for its late-game opportunities, and ensures defensive walls that would normally check it will be in range for a potential two hit KO. talk about keeping PZ healthy as well as it doesn't like to run boots, also add examples

**Speed Control**: With a base 90 speed tier, Porygon-Z often relies on teammates to stop faster threats. Choice scarf can offset this weakness somewhat, but since Porygon-Z usually likes to be in a position to setup and sweep, removing faster threats can allow it to forego Agility on its typical setup.

**Fighting Resists**:

Checks and Counters
========
**Fast Offensive Threats**: Porygon-Z is typically able to stomach a single hit from most threats, but without being allowed the extra turn to setup it can struggle to get in position to break through.

**Assault Vest Special walls**: While Porygon-Z can boost its damage output with Nasty Plot, it often needs a decent amount of chip against many bulkier Assault Vest users to break through, and is not usually able to take retaliation all that well. Double-Edge or Giga Impact can be used to offset this, but Porygon-Z often struggles to find the space on its usual sets for these options, and they will not be boosted from its setup. Doesnt need to all go but reword this to talk about special walls not just assault vest.

**Moveslots**: Deciding on a consistent four moves for Porygon-Z is hard, and it will typically be unable to fit everything it wants into a single set, usually having to sacrifice against one threat or another. This can cause it to miss critical coverage against Pokemon that would typically threaten it, especially when it is forced to use its Tera for a specific check. this isn't a check or counter, mention this in the overview

**Fighting-Types**: the only type that hits it super effective and PZ has mid defenses.

**Normal Resists**: PZ doesn't have coverage for most normal resists outside of using tera

Choice sets also see use, especially Choice Scarf with its secondary ability Download, allowing it to get a boost against physically defensive Pokemon, while maintaining its offensive pressure against its potential checks. While Porygon-Z can be incredibly threatening if given time, its lack of bulk, underwhelming speed tier, and its reliance on setup while also requiring multiple moveslots for coverage can cause it to struggle. This is especially true on double dance sets, where finding two turns to setup is often a large ask.

Naturally having access to boltbeam coverage allows it to hit most things for at least neutral damage, and with its normal stab boosted by Adaptability, it can threaten most foes.

Common Moves
========
**Primary STAB Moves**: Tri Attack

**Setup Moves**: Nasty Plot, Agility

**Utility Moves**: Thunder Wave, Trick, Recover, Substitute

**Coverage**: Ice Beam, Thunderbolt, Dark Pulse, Shadow Ball, Psyshock, Psychic, Tera Blast

Niche Moves
========
**Hyper Beam**: An Adaptability boosted Hyper Beam from Porygon-Z can result in shocking damage, and is useful for guaranteeing the removal of opposing offensive threats. Traditionally used on Choice Scarf sets, as Porygon-Z is able to trade itself after it is chipped, or to secure an advantageous endgame.

Common Items
========

Download is usually preferred over Adaptability on these sets to ensure Porygon-Z can pick up necessary KOs without relying on Tera. Trick can also enable Porygon-Z to cripple defensive Pokemon, setting up itself or another breaker to clean up the game later.

**Choice Specs**: Choice Specs allows Porygon-Z to put out unexpected damage against unprepared foes. Running Download allows Porygon-Z to more reliably break through foes that resist normal, while Adaptability can crush through even resisted walls that are not ready for it.

Niche Items
========
**Leftovers**: Leftovers allows Porygon-Z to remain a bit longer without sacrificing coverage with Recover. Also can be useful on Substitute sets to allow an extra setup opportunity.
Move this to the bottom of niche items

**Mental Herb**: As Porygon-Z is often a setup Pokemon, Encore and Taunt can be useful moves, attempting to stop it before it gets out of hand. Mental Herb denies this option, but as a trade-off sacrifices the often necessary damage boost from other options.

**Lum Berry**: Thunder Wave can be annoying for Porygon-Z, and it doesn't always get the opportunity to setup a Substitute first especially against faster Thunder Wave users, or when it requires the moveslot for extra coverage.

**Chople Berry**: Finding an extra turn can often insulate Porygon-Z from folding to random fighting coverage, while maintaining a threat of Tri Attack status, especially against offensive Pokemon who would otherwise take advantage of Porygon-Z's lackluster defenses.

Tera
========
Porygon-Z is an excellent secondary Tera captain, as Adaptability is able to stack with the Tera boost making its chosen coverage option significantly more threatening. Tera normal is often less valuable than adding an extra stab option, as the boost is not that significant, and Adaptability is better suited to boosting other options. Even with Tera, Porygon-Z cannot break through a lot of teams on its own and as such faces tough competition from higher tier Tera captains. As a secondary captain, though it does have the ability to muscle through a surprising amount of games when your primary captain cannot find an avenue to win.

This needs to acknowledge the downsides of Adapatability + Tera (the relative damage boost from Tera is lessened if stacked with Adaptability, and you lose your Adapatability boost to Normal moves if you tera into any type besides Normal). The info here is good, but feels a bit misleading since Adaptability is mentioned twice when it has some drawbacks.

Draft Strategy
========
Porygon-Z serves as a solid wallbreaker that can enable its teammates by breaking through their checks. With its access to setup, it can also can find late game scenarios to sweep. Porygon-Z generally appreciates pivots in order to get in a good position to wallbreak or sweep. It is also appreciated by other offensive threats, as its ability to spread status through its primary stab, as well as its access to decent coverage can often find holes or open avenues for partners to clean up a game even when it is unable to.

**Pivots**: Porygon-Z does not switch in against most offensive threats, and defensive walls threatening it with Toxic or Thunder Wave are also quite troublesome. Allowing it entry with Download or Choice sets can free it to wallbreak significantly easier. This is especially true when paired with physical pivots such as Meowscarada or Palafin, letting Porygon-Z immediately threaten their regular checks with its potential Download boost, or attempt to status its own walls with Tri Attack. Ogerpon forms uniquely appreciate Porygon-Z's access to boltbeam coverage to remove flyers that would otherwise be somewhat annoying.

**Entry Hazard Support**: Entry hazards ensure that the opposing team will be chipped down for its late-game opportunities, and ensures defensive walls that would normally check it will be in range for a potential two hit KO. Overqwil, Klefki, Clodsire can all set spikes for Porygon-Z, while common Stealth Rock users such as Glimmora, Uxie, and Swampert are all appreciated. Role compression from Pokemon like Donphan and Brambleghast are also appreciated, since Porygon-Z does not contribute towards the hazard game.

The aforementioned Meowscarada, as well as Greninja, Cinderace, and Darkrai all help to alleviate this issue.

**Fighting Resists**: Porygon-Z has only a single weakness in fighting, so compressing a solid defensive answer to common fighting types is key. Pecharunt, Enamorus-Therian, and Brambleghast are all solid partners in this regard. Compressing this role with a pivot is also appreciated, allowing Porygon-Z to come right back in whenever it is required with Pokemon such as Tornadus-Therian, Uxie, and Gliscor.

Checks and Counters
========
**Fast Offensive Threats**: Porygon-Z is typically able to stomach a single hit from most threats, but without being allowed the extra turn to setup it can struggle to get in position to break through. Iron Moth, Greninja, Cinderace, and Ogerpon forms all force progress against Porygon-Z's subpar defenses, and dissuade it from greedy Nasty Plot sets through the damage they threaten against it.

**Special Walls**: While Porygon-Z can boost its damage output with Nasty Plot, it often needs a decent amount of chip against many bulkier special walls to break through, and is not usually able to take retaliation all that well. Pokemon like Hisuian Goodra, Blissey, Florges, and Sylveon can all give Porygon-Z trouble while denying setup opportunities either through status or damage output.

**Fighting Types**: Offensive fighting types are a bane to Porygon-Z, hitting it very hard while often requiring Porygon-Z to either setup or Tera before it is able to handle them. Iron Hands, Iron Valiant, and Terrakion are quite troublesome, with Cobalion being especially annoying in its ability to resist Porygon-Z's normal stab, and the bulk to check it multiple times.

**Normal Resists**: Porygon-Z's coverage package is often not reliable enough to break through common normal resists, especially without access to Tera, especially when they have access to reliable recovery. Pokemon like Gholdengo, Heatran, Diancie, and Hisuian Goodra are all quite annoying for Porygon-Z to find an opportunity to break through, and with its middling defenses it is often not safe from the retaliation that they may dish out.

[overview]
**Draft Order**: Round 6 onwards

**Price Range**: 8-9 points

**Overview**: Porygon-Z serves as a mid-point sweeper and wallbreaker, using its access to both Nasty Plot and Agility to quickly take over games if allowed time.

[strategy comments]
Common Roles
========
**Setup Sweeper**: Agility allows Porygon-Z to clean up an endgame against chipped opposition, while Nasty plot can allow it to muscle through would-be checks. Double-dance sets are also available if it is able to get in against passive Pokemon.

**Revenge Killer**: Choice Scarf can enable Porygon-Z to cleanup threats with its stab Tri Attack. This also means that most Pokemon are wary of switching into it, as they risk being inflicted with status. Using Download over Adaptability can also enable Porygon-Z to keep access to a boost, especially when using moves not boosted by Adaptability.

**Wallbreaker**: Choice Specs, Life Orb, and Expert Belt can all serve to solidify Porygon-Z as a decent mid-game wallbreaker. Naturally having access to boltbeam coverage allows it to hit most things for at least neutral damage, and with its normal stab boosted by Adaptability, it can threaten most foes.

Common Moves
========
**Primary STAB Moves**: Tri Attack

**Setup Moves**: Nasty Plot, Agility

**Utility Moves**: Thunder Wave, Trick, Recover, Substitute

**Coverage**: Ice Beam, Thunderbolt, Dark Pulse, Shadow Ball, Psyshock, Psychic, Tera Blast

Niche Moves
========

========

Niche Items
========

Tera
========
Porygon-Z is an excellent secondary Tera captain, as Adaptability is able to stack with the Tera boost making its chosen coverage option significantly more threatening.

========

**Setup Sweeper**: Agility allows Porygon-Z to clean up an endgame late-game against chipped opposition, while Nasty plot Plot can allow it to muscle through would-be checks. Double dance Dance (RS) sets are also available if it is able to get in against passive Pokemon.

**Revenge Killer**: Choice Scarf can enable Porygon-Z to cleanup clean up threats with its stab STAB Tri Attack. This also means that most Pokemon are wary of switching into it, as they risk being inflicted with status effects. **Wallbreaker**: Choice Specs, Life Orb, and Expert Belt can all serve to solidify Porygon-Z as a decent mid-game wallbreaker. Naturally having access to boltbeam BoltBeam coverage allows it to hit most things for at least neutral damage, and with its normal stab Normal-type STAB moves boosted by Adaptability, it can threaten most foes.

It is Traditionally traditionally used on Choice Scarf sets, as Porygon-Z is able to trade itself after it is chipped (RC) or to secure an advantageous endgame match late-game.

Common Items

**Choice Scarf**: Choice Scarf fixes Porygon-Z's middling speed Speed tier (RC) while still maintaining adequate coverage. Download is usually preferred over Adaptability on these sets to ensure that Porygon-Z can pick up necessary KOs without relying on Terastallization. Trick can also enable Porygon-Z to cripple defensive Pokemon, setting up itself or another wallbreaker to clean up the game later.

**Choice Specs**: Choice Specs allows Porygon-Z to put out unexpected damage against unprepared foes. Running Download allows Porygon-Z to more reliably break through foes that resist normal Normal, while Adaptability can crush through even resisted Normal-resistant walls that are not ready for it.

Niche Items
========
**Mental Herb**: As Porygon-Z is often a setup Pokemon, Encore and Taunt can be useful moves for foes (RC) attempting to stop it before it gets out of hand. Mental Herb denies this option, but as a trade-off, (AC) it sacrifices the often-necessary (AH) damage boost from its other options.

**Lum Berry**: Lum Berry cures Thunder Wave paralysis, (AC) which can be annoying for Porygon-Z, and if it doesn't always get the opportunity to setup set up a Substitute first, (AC) especially against faster Thunder Wave users, or when if it requires the moveslot for extra coverage. (I reworded this bullet point and the next one so that it mentions the name of the items, making it consistent with the other bullet points.)

**Chople Berry**: Chople Berry can aid Porygon-Z in Finding finding an extra turn to set up, can often insulate Porygon-Z from folding to letting it survive random fighting Fighting-type coverage, while and maintaining a threatening to KO or status foes with of Tri Attack status, especially against offensive Pokemon who that would otherwise take advantage of Porygon-Z's lackluster defenses. (Please lmk if there is something wrong with how this is worded)

**Leftovers**: Leftovers allows Porygon-Z to remain in the game a bit longer without sacrificing coverage with Recover. It Also also can be useful on Substitute sets to allow an extra setup opportunity.

Tera
========
Porygon-Z is an excellent secondary Tera captain Captain, as Adaptability is able to stack with the boost Terastallization provides, making its chosen coverage option significantly more threatening. Due to this, Porygon-Z can realistically run whatever Tera type gives it the most advantages offensively in a given matchup. (RH) As for some more common options, ghost Tera Ghost can be used to offset its fighting Fighting weakness (RC) while allowing it to break through opposing ghost types who Ghost-types that would attempt to wall its normal stab Normal-type STAB moves. Tera Fighting is also useful as it is able to (fluff) can threaten the rock Rock- and steel types Steel-types that would normally resist its primary attacking options. Tera normal Normal is often less valuable than adding an extra coverage option, as the boost is not that significant, and Adaptability is more threatening when it's boosting Porygon-Z's coverage move. After Terastallizing, Adaptability after Tera does stops providing a boost towards boosting Porygon-Z's normal stab Normal-type STAB moves, so it's important to consider this when choosing to Terastallize Porygon-Z. Download does not face this dilemma, but often the extra damage on Tera Blast coverage is more valuable. Even with Terastallization, Porygon-Z cannot break through a lot of teams on its own and as such faces tough competition from higher-tier (AH) Tera captains Captains. As a secondary captain (RC) though, (AC) it does have the ability to muscle through a surprising amount of games when your primary captain cannot find an avenue to win.

Draft Strategy

Porygon-Z serves as a solid wallbreaker that can enable its teammates by breaking through their checks. With its access to setup moves, it can also can find late-game (AH) scenarios to sweep. Porygon-Z generally appreciates pivots in order to get in a good position to wallbreak or sweep. It is also appreciated by other offensive threats, as its ability to spread status through its primary stab Tri Attack (elaboration of move) (RC) as well as its access to decent coverage options can often find open up holes or open avenues (redundant with "holes") for partners to clean up a game even when it is unable to.

**Pivots**: Porygon-Z does not switch into against most offensive threats, and defensive walls threatening it with Toxic or Thunder Wave are also quite troublesome. Allowing it a Download or Choice item set safe entry with Download or Choice sets can free help it to wallbreak significantly easier. This is especially true when it's paired with physical pivots such as Meowscarada or and Palafin, letting Porygon-Z immediately threaten their regular checks with its potential Download boost (RC) or attempt to status its own (might confuse the reader w/ idea of inflicting Porygon-Z's teammates w/ status) walls with Tri Attack. The Ogerpon formes uniquely appreciate Porygon-Z's access to boltbeam BoltBeam coverage to remove flyers Flying-types that would otherwise be somewhat annoying.

**Entry Hazard Support**: Entry hazards ensure that the opposing team will be chipped down for its Porygon-Z's late-game opportunities (RC) and ensures that defensive walls that would normally check it will be in range for a potential two hit KO 2HKO. Choice scarf Scarf can offset this weakness somewhat, but since Porygon-Z usually likes to be in a position to setup set up and sweep, removing faster threats can allow it to forego Agility on its typical setup sets. (clarified in DMs) The aforementioned (it's been a couple bullet points since Meow was mentioned) Meowscarada, as well as (if this was left in, it'd result in an error on subject-verb agreement) Greninja, Cinderace, and Darkrai all help to alleviate this issue.

**Fighting-resistant Resists Pokemon**: Porygon-Z has only a single weakness in fighting to Fighting, so compressing pairing it with a solid defensive answer to common fighting types Fighting-types is key. Pecharunt, Enamorus-Therian, and Brambleghast are all solid partners in this regard. Compressing this role with a pivot is also appreciated, allowing Porygon-Z to come right back in whenever it is required, (AC) with Pokemon such as Tornadus-Therian, Uxie, and Gliscor being good examples.
