ORAS UU Porygon Z Sticky Web

hey guys

i really wanted to use porygon z in a competitiv team, so i tried to build one around him. after many thoughts i ended up creating an offensive sticky web team, which i hope to be able to improve with your help.
so thats my team:

salamence.gif
entei.gif
blastoise-mega.gif

porygon-z.gif

Porygon-Z @ Choice Specs
Ability: Adaptability
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Tri Attack
- Thunderbolt
- Dark Pulse
- Ice Beam

the reason why i created this team. i just wanted to use his raw power the best possible way.
so i just gave him a modest nature, max spA and max speed and choice specs. adaptability boosted tri attack does an awesome amount of damage. almost 1 or 2 shotting everything porygon had to face so far. thunderbolt, dark pusle and ice beam are for coverage, but i rarely had to use them so far.

galvantula.gif

Galvantula @ Focus Sash
Ability: Compound Eyes
EVs: 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Sticky Web
- Thunder
- Bug Buzz
- Thunder Wave

to sweep effektively (with specs) porygon needs up sticky web, so i decided to go with suicide lead galvantula.
max speed, max atk and focus sash. pretty standard set, but it gets the work done. gets up sticky web and 1 or 2 hits. thunder wave is just another option to cripple foes, that arent affected by sticky web.

salamence.gif

Salamence @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Moxie
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Dragon Claw
- Outrage
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge

to not be completely dependent on sticky web, i wanted to have a fast mon.
my choice was scarfed salamance. and so far he did a really great job, fullfilling the role of a mon, to get rid of fast threats and with that moxie ability a really awesome late game cleaner. moveset is pretty standart i guess. outrage to do massive dmg, dragon claw mostly to clean up and earthquake/stone edge for coverage.

entei.gif

Entei @ Choice Band
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Sacred Fire
- Stone Edge
- Extreme Speed
- Bulldoze

i really didn´t want to go out without priority. i picked entei for this job. with choice band, max atk and adamant nature he really does a huge amount of damage. benefiting from sticky web too.
the burn chance on sacred fire is really cool too and e-speed is a strong priority in addition.
bulldoze and stone edge for coverage.

blastoise-mega.gif

Blastoise-Mega @ Blastoisinite
Ability: Mega Launcher
EVs: 184 HP / 252 SpA / 72 Spe
Modest Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Aura Sphere
- Scald
- Dark Pulse

next i needed a rapid spinner to get rid of those hazards. sticky web on my side of the field, is something i definitly dont want. steathl rocks, spikes etc. are obviously really annoying too.
here my mon of choice was mega blastoise.
max attk to hit as hard as possible, 72 in spe to outspeed suicune and machamp and the rest in hp to be bulky.
scald for a nice stab and burn chance and the rest to deal with ghost and steel types.

whimsicott.gif

Whimsicott @ Leftovers
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 Spe
Bold Nature
- Encore
- Stun Spore
- Moonblast
- Leech Seed

whimsicott was my last pick. he fills the role as my supportive pokemon.
preventing other pokemon from setting up,cripple things, take some hits and do a bit damage. just so my other mons have it easier.

cobalion.gif

Cobalion @ Leftovers
Ability: Justified
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Close Combat
- Taunt
- Iron Head

as suggested, i changed whimsicott with cobalion and it is working really well. stealth rocks are a big help for this team. taunt really helps to prevent other mons from defogging. its not that good to shut down set up sweepers as encore imo, but trick porygon z did the "trick" (höhö) for me, to compensate that.
close combat and iron head are strong moves to get dmg of on pokemon as hydreigon or florge.

thanks for reading.
so let me know, if you like my team and leave suggestion where i could do some changes, to improve it.

PS:please excuse mistakes in spelling and grammar, englisch is not my first language.

Hi Guusfraba,

First off, don't worry about your English, what you write is perfectly understandable and it is impressive to be bilingual!

So, looking at your team... I do like webs offense. Though Galvantula can fall into the trap of being seen as sort of a "noob" mon, it's actually quite good, and I've lost to webs too many times to be proud of. You have a good matchup against a lot of offensive teams, especially ones that do not run hazard removal. As that is what you want to base your team around (and PZ) I'll keep those two intact fully, as I think it's a good thesis to start out with teambuilding.

For PorygonZ, I would change the set up a little bit. You really only "need" dark pulse and tri-attack, so we can shift some things around:

Porygon-Z @ Choice Specs
Ability: Adaptability
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Tri Attack
- Dark Pulse
- Thunderbolt
- Trick

This set allows you to hit Suicune and especially Mandibuzz rather hard, but you probably won't find yourself clicking thunderbolt all too often. Trick is for matchups against stall teams, when you see a Blissey you can cripple it by giving it specs and still hit really hard with Adaptability Modest Tri Attacks.

Entei makes really good use of webs, so I definitely want to keep him, but I would change Bulldoze to Flare Blitz for a 100% accurate STAB that has a few Sacred Fire 2HKOs into 3HKOs. As well, Sacred Fire is prone to losing PP, especially if the opponent has a Suicune to switch in.

244.png

Entei @ Choice Band
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Sacred Fire
- Stone Edge
- Extreme Speed
- Flare Blitz

I'm not in love with Whimsicott on this team, especially because it doesn't hit hard enough for a webs offense squad. Typically, if you are playing with webs up at most times, you want to be able to use mons that are traditionally bulkier attackers (like Blastoise and Entei) as straight up offense. So Whimsicott, while a great mon of course, isn't the best choice in my opinion. You still want a Hydreigon check, though, so I think we can combine a lot of roles into this spot while also adding Stealth Rocks, which are vital to any team (to break sashes, get damage on switches, etc.)

638.png

Cobalion @ Leftovers
Ability: Justified
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Close Combat
- Taunt
- Iron Head

This Cobalion set will work well with your team. While not the outright strongest mon, he gives you a good deal of defensive utility, can keep up momentum, and most importantly can taunt pretty much every potential defogger in the tier (MAero being the exception, but you can Iron Head that and kill it anyway at the cost of your webs).

Finally, I'd edit the Salamence set to take advantage of your webs a little more, as well as give you a better matchup against Forretress, something which can spin them away against a decent chunk of your team pre-edit. For Forry, you want to be able to offensively check him, as fitting a Doublade on this team I think is a waste of a spot because it doesn't hit hard enough straight away and we are really only accepting that for Cobalion. The following set is one I've been toying with a bit, which I'll show you, but if you find you want the speed go with the second one listed which is much more standard:

373.png

Salamence @ Lum Berry
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Hone Claws
- Dragon Rush
- Fire Blast
- Iron Tail

or

373.png

Salamence @ Lum Berry / Yache Berry
Ability: Moxie
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Outrage
- Fire Blast
- Iron Tail

The difference here is that the first set takes advantage of the fact that a lot of things that outspeed mence that are grounded can't after webs. This includes Infernape, Cobalion, Whimsicott, etc. Amazing coverage with Dragon/Fire/Steel means you can do a ton of damage right off the bat after a Hone Claws, which also raises your accuracy (shoutout Pokemon Cypher 2013). It's a fun set and can be really well used against teams that have fast mons that are grounded. Unfortunately, though, that set will make you a bit weaker to things like Mega Aerodactyl.

The second set is much more standard. While still keeping roughly the same coverage, this one is a steamroller that can win a game with a single free turn.

Let me know if you have any suggestions or find any of what I've written not to your liking, I'd be glad to work on this more with you!

hi teal

thank you for your suggestions. i will definitly try some of them out.
if you want to run sticky web you (sadly)dont have a big selection of pokemon, which are able to set them up. the only pokemon (for UU) that comes to mind right now is shuckle and i didn´t want to use that. would be really cool, if they would add some more web users in the next generations.

trick on porygon is a really reasonable suggestion, due to the fact that i rarely use other moves than tri attack anyways and it can really help to take down stall.

the main reason why i choose whimsicott was to deal better with set up sweepers and mega sharpedo.( or often even just as fodder just to criple and get a save switch)
sharpedo was a pretty big problem (when webs were not up), almost 1 or 2 hit ko´s the majority of my team and (after 2 speed boosts) outspeeding every one in my team besides scarfed mence (if i can catch it before the evolution or the turn when it evolves).
i dont know if cobalion can fit the role but i will definitly try, because i really wanted stealth rocks for this team before, they are really helpful and i missed them in a few matches.

i´m not a big fan of the salamce changes besides iron tail. but that is mainly because of my playstile.
i often use salamance to switch in on resisted hits and get rid /dmg a pokemon. that gradually wears him down, which is not that bad, cause he can full fill his main job (cleaning up) anyways by ouspeeding and not getting hit. he often comes in , in situations, where i have to be faster and kill in one turn.
if i have to use a turn to set up, that might not work.
but i might give it a shot anyways.

i will try those changes the next time i´m on showdown and see how they will work out.

UPDATE: so i had time to test the suggestions.
the cobalion is working really really well. i will definitly swap whimsicott out.
currently testing the two salamance sets, maybe i will change that too. but i want to try and test them a little longer.
so thanks for the help.
