Pokemon Shuffle General Discussion

Caught the rest of the Safari Pokémon in short order before spending the rest of the week Exp. Grinding before S-Ranking enough stages to unlock Luxray. As for this week's events, I went to Mega Absol first and after testing the waters itemless, had a godmode full items run to grab first in EU with a MMX team, scoring just under 85k. Working on Uxie at the moment, beat it first try itemless with Mega Gengar optimise, but missed the catch and have not beaten it since. We will get it shortly.

To try and address various questions. (Note: I'm mostly familiar with the 3DS version. Mobile has some differences in things like coin farming and a different event schedule.)

- Ampharos (Stage 130) is usually the best stage to grind on besides Saturday Victini. Ampharos has 50 moves, only surpassed by Snorlax, but it also has relatively tame HP and disruptions compared to Snorlax's massive HP. It's also easy to grind NVE Pokemon as long as you have a Ground type to balance it out.

Buneary is your best bet until you reach there. Generally, a Pokemon awards as much EXP to every Pokemon (not split, apiece) as it allows moves to clear it, so Buneary awards 30, while Ampharos awards 50.

- Base 60 is the minimum to use a Pokemon over something else, though that tends to also be when the mon has a particular ability. If you watch events and such, Base 70 mons and one or two Base 80's will come to you soon. This is of course after noting to use SE mons first and foremost, though a few later stages will be made easier by bringing certain mons, such as Milotic wanting you to bring Feebas.

- Coins can be farmed from Stage 37 (Meowth). Here is a small tutorial video
on how to do it. Farming this stage if you hit a wall or much later when you've cleared everything is a good way to build up coins for upcoming events.

- Are you familiar with the Great Ball trick? Where shutting the game off after using a Great Ball but before going back to the main map gives you back the coins for the Ball (not items though)? It's a nice way to hold onto coins until a successful capture.

Word of warning, you're approaching what many consider the first "roadblock" stage with Mega Mawile, since it has somewhat troublesome disruptions and forces Eevee on you as an extra Support. Main limiting factor would probably be the lack of good Megas since Mawile is Steel type in this game.
Landorus is available right now as an event, with Base 80 Power and Ground typing he's probably be very helpful to you. You get one chance a day and I think this is the last day for him. I would recommend using some items to try and get him.

One thing that will be a big factor in advice, are you playing Mobile or 3DS?
As a mobile player, I'll go through this, making corrections for mobile where need be.
Most of this is still true, but beware that Buneary, Ampharos, and Snorlax (unlike other stages in Mobile) give 5 LESS Exp than their moves would indicate, so it's 25/45/50. Victini comes irregularly, not every Saturday.
All still true.
Meowth is still the best way to get coins, but iirc it tends to release fewer coins on Mobile than 3DS.
This no longer exists. Don't try. You'll lose the coins, the heart, and the Exp if you do this.
Very true still.
And also here.

Cool, I am playing on Android yes. Buneary stage is really easy when using Mega Kanga so that's what I've been using so far. Might start trying out Sableye some more though because that's going to help vs Mega Mawile (as Dark isn't resisted and the rest of my Megas atm are Normal). Its_A_Random mentioned Mega Mawile would probably be a big issue for a bit, but I haven't reached it yet. Just going back through every so often and catching all the mons I've missed and just collecting stuff. I have around 20k coins atm but I haven't needed to use any yet. I'll def have a look at grinding coins off of Meowth though.

At what point does a Pokemon stop levelling/what power level would they end up at? Looks like they gain 10 power every 5 levels (Illumise went from 50 to 60), but I'm not sure what level they cap out at? I'm a bit annoyed that Mega Kanga prioritises sideways matches over vertical ones when you match in a + so instead of wiping out 3/4 rows you wipe out just one. Thinking about trying Mega Lopunny for the "opposite" of Mega Kangas. I just feel like right now that some of the timed stages seem impossible... The tag "Level 4 Recommended" or whatever is rubbish because I'm yet to even really scratch Articuno and I really want to catch him haha... I'm using Lv 4/5's but I don't yet have Charmeleon to a level where he's really usable yet. Are the Pokemon available in the "Expert" stages worth trying to get asap?

Just noticed there is a Ho-Oh and Lugia event this week... And the competitve stage IAR posted about. I'm not going to be able to even place and it seems kinda harsh that you don't stand a chance in some of these events if you're a new user.

Most people say to stop actively leveling mons at Level 5 (Max is 10), as they start to really see diminishing returns on the grinding compared to how long it takes to train them. General rule is that a mon will see 20 more ATK when maxed out.

For timed "Expert" stages, it's usually not a big deal how soon you get them, though there are some Base 80's with good types in there later on (Xerneas, Yveltal, Heatran, etc). The Birds are Base 70's, which are good, but I'd wait until you have either a SE Mega or get to Mega Gengar, which is widely considered the best "general purpose" Mega because of its ability (removes every Mega Gengar icon on the board) besides maybe Mega Rayquaza who comes much later.

Ho-oh and Lugia are both very good, being Base 80's and Lugia having a fantastic ability (Eject +), so if you have the coins trying to grab them wouldn't be a bad idea. Competitions admittedly do have an entry barrier since you need a full SE party and want a good Mega, but usually the use of items ends up being a bigger factor at that point.

I need this update for mobile.

Also, 3DS players - should I use my coins to secure an absolite or get Lugia/Ho-oh? I already have Sharpedo as my dark mega, not sure if Mega Absol is better.

Dark Mega are not really useful ... There is Mega Gar which is the best ... (and there is a lot of competition with Mega Banette, Mega Absol, Mega Sharpedo, Mega Sableye ... and I don't know if I had really used Absolite or Sharpedite)

A quick Summary from serebii if the post of Random is too long ;)

A new patch has been released for Pokémon Shuffle on the 3DS. This patch has updated a variety of things with the game. It requires 720 blocks to download
First, it brings many UI points up to the same standard of Mobile by including Recommendations for each stage, notes if you haven't done a particular Special stage and so forth. It also lists how many of the availble Pokémon you have caught.
You can hold down a Pokémon as it gains experience to see how much experience is required for the next level.
It adds the ability for you to fast travel between each stage, listing how many Pokémon and S Ranks you got in each area
It adds SpotPass notifications for the game so that you can be informed whenever there's something new.
It adds a new Survival Mode when you have passed Stage 150. This mode has you select four Support Pokémon and face opponent after opponent in set stages until you lose. It costs 3 hearts to pl
It adds a new item called "Raise Max Level". You're given it as you first launch the game. It also adds an item called Exp. Booster M
There's a new feature on various Pokémon signifyed by lollipops. These signify new enhancements for each of the Pokémon. Some are listed as being able to have 0 enhancements, but others can have multiple
New things called Mission Cards have been added. These give you special missions on what to do such as Make a combo of 10 or more matches. Each mission has got a special amount of stars and restrictions. When you reach a certain amount of stars, you can redeem for items including Mega Starts, or even Mega Stones like Lucarionite
I'll be adding sections for these new features throughout the day

Mega Absol is a fairly underrated mega tbh. Mostly overshadowed by Mega Gengar and Mega Banette but it has its advantages on a few stages where others falter (Beats Uxie itemless with more reliability than Mega Gengar and can beat Gothitelle of all things itemless with remote consistency for example) because it can at least break down blocks and at least has some combinability and unlike Mega Sharpedo, is not population-reliant (and faster without speedups). Not to mention, Mind Zap is an excellent pre-mega ability and Base 60 at Lv1 is okay. It should not be too difficult to get; 40k is probably a really safe score for the Absolite though changes to the 3DS version may or may not change that.

Would I recommend it over Lugia or Ho-Oh though? Depends. I would recommend getting Lugia over it for certain since it works really well on Sky Blast teams and Eject+ is a really good ability. Ho-Oh though? I do not know. While it is good on Pyre teams, Power of 5+ is an okay ability at best because matches of 5 for it to start a combo are rare outside of timed and even then, 80% activation rate is pretty annoying.

At any rate, I caught Uxie itemless with Mega Absol optimise before completing the Capture/S-Rank sweep of Pedra Valley, where my next to catch or S-Rank is Staraptor and I am one S-Rank off unlocking Malamar. With the new updates though, I have given Survival a couple of goes. First time I used a MMX fighting team and it all went well before I ran into Mega Slowbro stage 11. Second attempt I got to 14 with Mega Gengar/Darkrai/Genesect/Gallade only to lose to Raichu after Darkrai's Sleep Charm randomly activated. I am currently working on the Lucarionite card and have to do the seven combo on Mega Audino, Pikachu most matched on Marshtomp, four coins matched on Meowth, and the 10 blocks erased on Riolu before I (finally) get that stone. Might do the other Mission cards afterwards before resuming my Expert Stage unlocking. Really liking these new changes though the double match glitch being fixed is ehhh.

I'm also working on Lucarionite Card (because I don't have it) and I manage to get most of the stars, two objectives left ! I like theses kind of missions, it adss some fun :) Managed to the Seven Combo (on Regular Audino, not Mega :)), Four Coins, 10 blocks on Riolu too ... Last one is Pikachu on Marshtomp and 20 secondes on Lucario :)
Got Uxie using Disruption Delay + Great Ball (with Critical Capture) ! I will try Absolite this weekend when I have some gold back !

What do you get with Survival missions ?

I managed to finish the first two cards ! :) Lucarionite is mine !

I have selected the third card, but god damn, that will be harrrrrd :D
A combo of exact 20 links is hard to pull

I woud like to pay for the first time in one year something for Pokemon Shuffle (a way to say thank you to the dev team for this F2P !)

And I've read that on Serebii :
As of Version 1.3, you now get bonuses when you purchase Jewels. If you have purchased between 5 and 9 Jewels in a month, your regenerated hearts can go up to 6 and you get 600 coins with each check in. If you have purchased over 10 Jewels in a month, your regenerated hearts can go up to 7 and you get 700 coins with each check in. This lasts until the end of the month you purchased the Jewels in.

So I should wait the 1st April, to maximize the bonus gold and the bonus cap of regenerated hearts, right ?

That Chimecho mission is using all of my hearts, and I've got a load of 19s and 21s. I've heard that Mewtwo (the Expert stage) works for the beat MMY itemless mission, but I haven't checked myself. The Throh mission is ridiculous - you need to use a Moves +5 and get lucky with Prank.

I only have the 100 coin and Mewtwo one to go. Lotta heart sinks so far but whatever. Mewtwo I almost beat it. I was like || off itemless lol SO CLOSE. Still trying though :) Then I'll be doneee until Sunday!

I just started to play Pokémon shuffle mobile, and this mega mawile stage is killing me... Nothing to do but grind...
Hang in there mate, try and get some of the EX Stage mons or even try and luck it out to get a Houndoom from the current Safari (Or even Ho-Oh but I doubt you can beat it where you are atm) and basically level them up to help boost your chances of winning. Otherwise all I can say is that it's impossible itemless without an event mega so at least get enough coins for a DD and a Moves +5.

---

Anyhow I have been clearing missions, just the 100 coins mission to go which obviously can only be done on Sundays, don't know if I am going to go for my usual Mega Start Mega Ray team or if I am going to chuck profit chances in the bin and run Mega Start Mega Aerodactyl with three Stabilise+ Pokémon (since Mega Aero can remove coins) to try and beat the mission. Leaning towards the latter at the moment but we will see when we get there. For some other missions, I took the easy way out and coughed up a Jewel for the Throh challenge and used Competition/Safari for the Score/Combo challenges. MMY Itemless was not as bad as I expected, beat it first try mainly off an opportune board reset. Otherwise I have been grinding as well as catching + S-Ranking stages with the first 250 Stages fully complete. I am about 10 S-Ranks off unlocking Mamoswine.

Also as a note for those trying the MMY Itemless Challenge: Beating the Mewtwo EX stage itemless also counts as beating the mission as well.

Also damn 2,499 posts... Better think of something to do sooner or later... ._.

What team did you bring against MMY for the challenge?

I'm also trying my luck in the chimecho challenge while also hitting on the 100 combo challenge but haven't been able to get more than 60 combos,RNG is very harsh lately.

For mega Mawile, there is now a solution ! Use Mega Lucario (Lucarite can be earned in the second card mission) and steam rolls her !

Thanks Random for all your input, I will have to work on the 3rd card later (the bonus are nice but I'm so far behind everyone else in terms of basic stages ... I'm around Chimchar and I need a lot of old S-ranks too) so I will wait :D

What is this card mission? And is it available in the Pokémon shuffle mobile? My current plan to beat the mawile stage has multiple parts
1. Train chatot, pigeotto, and slurpuff
2.Catch lucario
3. Catch charizard.
4. MURDER THAT BITCH!!!!!

What Megas do you have? The big hump I found with Mawile was lacking a SE Mega when it showed up, which an event might give you a way around. I went back to Mega Mawile for an S-Rank much later, and just recently for the Card missions (not sure if Mobile has them), and with a Fire Mega and SE mons I demolished it itemless.

Normal and sableye mega and won't get one for a while.
Just got a lucario and, it's disgusting how the level 1 lucario is ludicrously stronger than my Lv 4 hawlucha. It took a +10 sec boost and a great ball to get it, so I'm broke for now. Not even looking at that Mawile until I get a Charizard too

Weekend Meowth is a good chance to get your Coin totals back up. I assume Mobile didn't get that Card system.

I think there was a gift code that awarded a Lucarionite in the Mobile version, though not sure if that's still a thing. Might be some others of worth still active though.

Yeah, tried that, no dice. Gonna grind normal Meowth and buneary to dust.
