Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl - Release 19th Nov 2021

I didn't expect an overview at this time but I won't say no to new footage, showing off a lot of things we haven't seen screens of like trainer classes, and the starter final evos finally show up. Still holding out for the final actual trailer though. I like the camera angle shift on the chibi trainers, though the zoom focusing on them still seems weird in a way. Also speaking of the chibis, we saw Mars with different emotions in the train advertisement clip. The multiplayer part used Route 209 music which seems alright. Also speaking of music, the actual trainer theme can be heard starting at around 1:46.

The pokedex here is in regional mode with the bare minimum registered. It really looks more menu-like than SWSH's to me, though seems like the buttons might be the same.

According to bulbapedia, this Lv30 Graveler encounter with Riley is only possible in DP as expected. Speaking of Riley, it's a bit weird to me how the balls just diverge when the camera angle shifts at the start of battle.

Torterra is probably using Leaf Storm against Luxray here, reminiscent of SWSH but not exact as usual. I like how the gym lights actually dim for the animation though maybe it could've been more than 1 frame.

Teddiursa's model looks like it has made slightly taller in the next redesign.
EDIT: I admit this was mainly just for the joke reference and the USUM Teddiursa is kind of squashed but I took a more proportional image of the model from Serebii and lined it up for a better comparison. I think it's probably just the pose though.

It also seems like there are different varieties of statues to collect like green and rotating ones. One of the preview articles mentioned a shiny statue but maybe it just refers to the texture since most of these are just pretty rocky. Also seems like the orb shows what type you're attracting visually as seen with these water starters.

I checked all the contest moves to see if there was anything new.
Snover: Powder Snow
Chingling: Wrap
Chatot: Sing
Clefairy: Metronome
Lumineon: Attract
Magneton: Magnet Rise
Chimchar: Torment
Buizel: Scald

Lopunny: Flatter (added to learnset in Gen 8 DLC)
Chingling 2: Uproar
Bronzor: Gyro Ball
Pikachu: Quick Attack

For the most part these were levelup moves mons had in Gen 4, but Scald is confirmed to be back at least. Lopunny having Flatter confirms these learnsets are probably based off of the latest/Gen 8 DLC learnsets or whatever they may have had internally beyond the TM compatability. Also it works pretty well as an appeal move to put spotlights on yourself.

The coinflip app is back and looks pretty much the same. Truly faithful.

So I'm fairly sure this is Mars's Purugly using Slash, as it fits with the usual Slash gash animation. As for Cyrus's Weavile I'm just going to assume it's Shadow Claw as there aren't really that many claw moves it could be.

I feel like this is a reference to swearing via Chatter.
EDIT: I just realized this is Chatot using Parting Shot which is a new move. Neat.

The battle with Dialga & Palkia looks pretty cool. It looks like its spear pillar at sunset.
It's hard to see because everything is purple but the sky looks kind of torn apart and drifting in the Palkia shot, though it makes sense since I guess you're trying to stop the legendary at that point.

EDIT:
Fighting hatless at the start is neat. We did see outfit selection for contests but I don't know if there's an option to just be hatless.
So there's also new 30s TV commercials that shows some new stuff like outfits and move animations as well, but mainly I'll just focus on noting possible changes here.

Saturn's Kadabra has either Light Screen or Reflect and I kind of want to say it's Reflect. Bulbapedia shows that they both look the same in SWSH but Reflect is yellower while Light Screen is more purple, but Kadabra learns Reflect by levelup so I'm going with that. Also he did not have Kadabra in Platinum, as expected by now.

This one shows 3 more sets of contest moves.
Bronzong: Iron Defense
Geodude: Rollout
Bidoof: Work Up (probably a TM)

Clefairy: Disarming Voice
Chingling: Wrap
Barboach: Future Sight
Hoothoot: Dream Eater
Glameow: Fury Swipes
Chatot: Feather Dance
Zubat: Leech Life
Hoothoot: Reflect
Bronzor: Iron Defense

All in all it's all levelup learnsets, and Work Up is probably back as a TM or they just gave it to Bidoof. Honestly I expect that every move could make it back since the battle data is all there in SWSH, the main thing missing is the animations and ILCA is reanimating everything to a degree anyway.

EDIT 2:
Overall I'm liking what I see in a lot of the battle backgrounds, but I have to say that for every great environmental one, it seems like there's going to be one of these generic terrain with sky ones and I feel like these are worse than what SWSH had in similar scenarios.

EDIT 3: This is very late but for archival's sake I'll point out there's a Pelipper in Candice's gym using Ice Beam in one commercial which is only used by a DP gym trainer and Ice Beam is a new move.

I think it's just a matter of time now...the countdown to Flint's original DP team has begun...

This is actually a bit concerning. In DP, Mars's Purugly knew Faint Attack which should be unresisted by now by Empoleon and actually out damage a resisted Slash. As a boss, Mars should have the highest AI which is how it was in Platinum. I swear to god if this game has inherited the original DP AI...

I don't even bother watching the trailers anymore. I just come here and read the analysis you eagle-eyes come up with. It's amazing really, I would never think to do things like analyze wild Pokemon levels to determine that the gameplay is D/P, or to check each contest move to figure out learnsets and the likely battle formula the game will have. Even something like a 10% height boost for Teddiursa's model, how does anyone notice this!?

Great job everyone. You're all incredible.

Wow, that is kind of disappointing. So essentially they will be treated like two separate generations? We can't trade or battle between the two? I knew Ranked battles were not in, but I assumed you could just trade to Sword and Shield and use everything together there. Would be kind of lame to play online and be limited to just Gen 4 Pokemon and have to keep teams separate from your Sword and Shield teams. Even without Ranked, most people play on Battlespot or against friends.

Maybe with the Home update in 2022 they will update Sword and Shield to be able to transfer in all of those Pokemon reintroduced in the remakes, either from them or past generation games. Essentially what they did when the DLC/Home updates came out if I recall where you could transfer things like Luxray in and then breed for Gen 8 versions.

But is it confirmed that we'll never be able to trade between Sword/Shield and the remakes? Meaning even if Sword/Shield is updated, it will get the reintroduced Pokemon but will still be separate for trade and battle purposes? I'm wondering if it is currently a situation where they might update it later or if they firmly said that they'll forever keep the online ecosystems separated.
Most likely if the Pokémon in BDSP are already in SWSH, you'll be able to transfer them from BDSP into SWSH, but not the other way around. So you could transfer Garchomp, but not something like Staraptor, unless Game Freak will drop another update for SWSH that includes more scrapped mons. But I can guarantee there'll be no way to transfer new mons from Legends Arceus into SWSH like Basculegion LOL. It'll be like LGPE where you have to wait for the next generation to use the Meltan/Melmetals of Legends Arceus

We will have to wait and see; they already updated what was allowed to be transfered into SWSH twice already. Thry clearly have the power, but its possible the new models might not mesh with SWSH, not to mention each pokemon and form would need dynamax models as well.

Eh I don't think it's a case of "models" in this case.
The already present models seem to just be the same as SwSh, so porting the other over isn't exactly rocket science.

It's more a case of if they want to.
(As I stated earlier, I fully expect every BDSP poke to make it to SwSh via free patch in same way of the DLC ones once Home compatibility happens. I want to hope same for Legends Arceus, but that's a beast of its own anyway and a Melmetal case isn't to exclude)

If it was just the models we would have all the gen 1 mons thanks to LGPE.
The BDSP/Legend mons may have to wait until next game, or not, we cant know until it happens.

I remember people hacking in lgpe models into swsh and i think they came out broken in some places? Specifically some of thr fossil mons prior to crowned tundra.
Omastar, because Let's Go didn't have entrance animations primarily. Considering it was a literal hack job it actually worked mostly okay except for anything that would need to call that animation

BDSP has those entrance animations. I suspect that BDSP is using the SWSH battle engine as a base so I honestly kidn of figure that anything done for BDSP would pipeline better to SWSH. LA in particular i bet absolutely does since Gamefreak are the one making that one.

Incidentally my conspiracy theory is Let's Go were made on a modified 3DS engine

The Empoleon could have just been switched in that turn.

Since it's apparent by now that these games are dedicated to replicating DP exactly and we're all waiting to see Flint's team, is there any new consensus on how Giratina and the Distortion World will be handled?

I think a "Platinum Episode" would've been announced by now if it existed, so I expect Giratina will be caught in Turnback Cave as usual. The Griseous Orb (along with Rotom and Shaymin's transformation items) will probably be available somewhere, and if we're lucky we can go to the Distortion World to find it.

I think the orb will just be placed in giratina's chamber

I don't wanna jinx it, but I'm relatively confident the Distortion World will appear in some form, even if it's just a ctrl + c of the Platinum map with a portal to it chucked at the end of Turnback Cave. Iirc Masuda himself thought of the idea back during DP's development, and in basically every single relevant official Sinnoh retrospective material it's consistently placed as one of the region's defining iconic setpieces.

I'll be absolutely shocked if at least one of the two upcoming Sinnoh games don't have the Distortion World in some form

oh legends arceus is definitely going to have it in some form, i guarantee it. No way we get an Arceus game that doesnt at least passively tackle the "renegade" who has to live between worlds to keep the balance

here though ehhhhhhhhh....that's a lot of new tile sets for a little one off hallway....

For PLA I am inclined to agree. A 5 second shot of leaping between rocks with Wyrdeer or going up the upside-down waterfall with Basculegion is such free final trailer fodder that would singlehandedly secure several thousand pre-orders, ain't no way Game Freak doesn't recognize the design opportunities for this kind of game

As for BDSP, I was insinuating the full thing as it appears in Platinum's climax. If they wanna add some easy story context to it while keeping it faithful to that, here's an idea:
-DP climax goes as normal, ending with Cyrus disappearing to parts unknown
-Postgame you run into Looker who tells you to keep your eyes peeled for Galactic remnants
-After fulfilling some other requirement (catching all three lake guardians perhaps?) you get a call from him saying that Cyrus been sighted at Sendoff Spring
-You go through Turnback Cave and find the portal at the end, from there you just do Platinum climax but with Cyrus' team being at postgame level

Oh yeah I definitely dont see that happening at all lmao

Well moving away from that for a bit, since they put up the overview trailer I suspect we're not getting another "big update" before release.
Otherwise I think they'd have just waited on the overview so it could include whatever stuff is in there.

Maybe release day could have one for post game stuff or something, just so it's out there on the site.
