Wow, loving the animated battle sprites. So exciting! Certainly much more dynamic this time around.

And it looks like Zoroark stays in its illusionary form until its HP gets very low, or when there is some sort of signal which would give it away (Such as super effective hits).

Oh, and the Aura Sphere is coming from the middle of the body, not the butt. The butt's a little further back, if you haven't notice.

Entei has his old DPPt sprite. I hope they change it by the time the game comes out. Maybe they have already done so.

I have to agree, the animated attacking sprites are just bad ass. So far, I like what I've seen, cept the mix-matched sea otter.

Maybe they don't want to reveal new sprites just yet. If people say "Oh man, that new Entei sprite looks retarded. They have time to change it so they should." They'll be hated on if they don't change it and they wouldn't want to go through a whole process of creating a new sprite so they're probably not going to show the real ones.

But that's not a real Pokemon. It's one some people want to exist.
The point is that it's entirely possible to base a Pokemon on a narwhal and not have it just look like a narwhal.
The same goes for a dolphin - some pages ago I posted some of the artwork relating to the constellation Delphinus, the dolphin - looks nothing like a real dolphin and looks very promising as a general body shape for a Pokemon.

I don't think they'll care because they'll be too busy rolling in money.

I'm more surprised they didn't reuse the HGSS sprites, really.
I just hope 3rd gen gets a redo, poor things have only gotten one sprite set this in the past 5 games

what if the non-gen 5 pokes dont get new sprites at all? they only updated the sprites for gen 1 and 2 pokes(and some other 8 for some random reason) in HGSS, so they might not update a shit for the old ones at all and use all the HGSS sprites instead.

A while ago, I was very skeptical that they would ever make a remake of R/S. But now, with the introduction of more 3-dimensional elements, the physical/special split, and whatever new mechanics they introduce in this generation, it is highly possible. I'm actually very excited now at what effects will be introduced to enhance the gameplay, as well as any new/improved areas for the remake.

The sprites get better every generation, so I'd be even more surprised if they did keep the HGSS ones.

Yeah, I'm going to be really annoyed if they get lazy and re-use the older sprites. Sprites are like my #1 reason for getting hyped for the new Pokemon games. This Entei sprite was already animated in these screenshots, so I'm hoping it isn't permanent.

I don't think the sprites can be improved much anymore, just the poses. Even if the sprites are the same as the HGSS ones, they added more animations to them atleast.

Well I'm sure they could think of some new poses, nonetheless. Besides, animated sprites is definitely a step forward.

Either way, there has to be new sprites for every pokemon, since they are introducing the new animated sprites for battles now. You can't just have some animated and some not.

Yeah, they're already animating all 493 Pokemon plus how many new Pokemon there might be; asking for new sprites on top of that is a little excessive, don't you think?

No? It's a brand new generation 4 years in the making, not having new sprites is lazy and makes the game look incredibly sloppy and unpolished. We've had new sprites for every generation so far, why should this one be any different?

No? It's a brand new generation
Despite what Game Freak may try and say, from a technical point of view BW is almost certainly the LEAST original generation. I doubt there will be any significant changes to the game engine from HGSS, though they intend to use the 3D capabilities more. Game Freak is focussing more on the thematic aspects, so hopefully there'll be good things there.

I won't be at all surprised if there are reused sprites. I believe many 2nd Gen Pokemon reused their RSE sprites in DP, with only minor colour changes.

And being "lazy" saves Game Freak money and boosts their profits. Meanwhile it's hardly going to affect sales if stuff not catchable in the games still has its 4th Gen sprites. I'd expect the entire regional Pokedex to be resprited (well, most of it's new sprited), but perhaps not much more.

The way I see it, they've got hundreds of Pokemon to animate, both while idle and during every move they can possibly learn. That's enough new spriting for me; I'd rather let GameFreak have time to work on something that matters, like the actual gameplay.

to tell the true i dont think its THAT hard or that it take so much time to animate all those sprites, they can always go and fix some stuff in later-testing stages so why not add animated sprites mid-testing?

No, we haven't. Some sprites have been re-used. I'll give you an example- Khangaskhan's back sprite in G/S/C is the same one from R/S/E.

Some pokemon have the same base body sprite, but the legs or facial expression were changed.

Seeing that B/W is using full back sprites, I think we won't have re-used sprites. Then again, they can use the same base back sprites from D/P and add on to them.

You know...they could easily evolve Chimecho. James left his some place so chances are, it'll make a reappearance and it could evolve in the next generation.

The animated battlesprites are pretty cool, and I'd guess that they'll be heavily featured in marketing. Seeing pokemon actually move and attack in 3D was one of the big draws of the Stadium/etc games.

And I don't think the Entei sprite is exactly the same, the cloud/cape/tail thing is positioned differently, and unless the image source altered the colors they aren't the same as the ones on the Pt sprite. But even if it is, the animations will keep it from being the same old thing.

I'd rather not have GF be like the people who make Madden NFL and change as little as possible between installments. I'd rather them make all new sprites _and_ spend the time working on better stuff. I think reusing old sprites smacks of half-assedness.

Here is a thought... Zoroark is obviously linked to the legendary dogs in some way and as evidence there previous screen shot of him in Entei-forme. Why Entei? My assumption is that Zoroark will be given 3 special item to choose from to determine his form.

As I've said before, it'd make the most sense for Illusion to copy the appearance of another Pokémon on your team. This is what I suspect will actually happen.

This is also what I think will happen. Choosing the Pokemon sounds too good, and it would take too long. I doubt it will change into the Pokemon it's facing, because Zoroark changed into Entei, and not Raikou. Unless the Raikou was switched in the battle.

I think the least original (from a technical standpoint) would be Gen 2, really.
