Pokémon Black/White in-game discussion

I just wanted to show some appreciation for Pidove->Tranquil->Unfeasant.
After it has become my favourite pokémon in my team (well until deerling evolves), I feel sort of bad for mocking it so much :s

Super luck air cutter was more than enough for it to get to the point of getting return and fly, and it just keeps on going for me. Well that and I just love male Unfeasants :p

Current team:
Unfezant
Sawk
Victini
Deerling
Scollipede (which will learn megahorn to breed on karrablast to get an escavalier)

In the first port area of Castelia, one of the guys there gives you an evolution stone specifically for the monkey you get iirc.

Actually, he'll give you the stone that you want- you just have to lie if you don't like whatever monkey you got.

Anyway, I'm finding love for Carracosta. I got one with Sturdy (terrible nature though, Hasty? Bleh.) and it's taking hits like a champ.

I'm thinking if I should drop Lilligant for Mienshao eventually though. She's great on firepower, but Chlorophyll isn't great in-game and having only one offensive type really limits her somewhat.

And I like Sawsbuck, but he's been the most difficult to train by far. No Grass STAB before level 37 (Energy Ball doesn't count when you have 40 Sp.Atk) and your best move being pretty much Jump Kick? I'm just glad he learns Thunder Wave, but now I'm facing serious 4-move syndrome.

Anyway, my team is currently as such:

Samurott
Unfeasant
Carracosta
Sawsbuck
Lilligant
Stoutland

Any changes to suggest? I'm thinking of running Ice Fang on Stout to handle the 8th gym, and both him and Costa have Crunch to handle Ghost/Psychic E4. Renbu sounds like trouble though... I may have to rely on Samurott to power through him.

Meh, just got Black if anyone cares...Liking the story so far, I only have 2 badges...Killed Lenora's Watchog with a Lv12 Roggenrola through Sand Attack Hax & Sturdy...0_O
In Nacrene, about to go into Pinwheel Forest with a Lv13 Blitzle, a Lv14 Panpour, a Lv15 Roggenrola, & a Lv19 Servine. Any good Pokemon to take on Burgh with?

You have to push the boulders in the holes to get there... There should be a big staircase. I think it's in the middle. It's a little hard to miss...

Should've caught one with Own Tempo, tbh.

If Lilligant sets up, it doesn't care about typing, it'll power through anything with Petal Dance, and confusion free, too.(If it has Own Tempo)

Petal Dance is as powerful as outrage now, plus it's stab, and Lilligant has a beautiful special attack stat, even when resisted, it's gonna hurt regardless.

And you should still be able to use hidden power, takes a while to get, you need to have seen like 120 pokemon(Serebii says 100, but I could only get it once I got to about 120, and other people had similar experienced)
You just have to be lucky it's something that hits grass types and you're good.

Lilligant's in-game power just makes up for her lack of coverage, really.

Phew. With Litwick captured I finally have my full team.

Dewott, jolly, level 35
Excadrill, adamant, level 34
Archen, jolly, level 35
Gothorita, modest, level 35
Joltik, Modest, level 34
Litwick, modest, level 27

Probably going to train Litwick up in the tower for a while. Is is true that I can't get to the shadow ball TM until much later in the game? That's some crap.

Anyway, it's a bit tough to pick a favorite. Excadrill, as my only fully evovled pokemon, is obviously a freaking beast. Learning rock slide and earthquake early really earns him a top spot. Archen has also been stupidly powerful with acrobatics. My special attackers, on the whole, seem to be struggling more. But I just caught two of them, so I expect that to change soon enough.

got white today and played for a bit. ended up with two badges and a team of swadloon (lv20), dewott (lv21) and pansear (lv21).

ps INCINERATE SUCKS HAIRY BALLS.

Just completed the game, this was my team:
636.png
ULTRAMOTH lvl 50 - Flame Charge/Fire Blast/Bug Bite/Acrobatics @ Lucky Egg
530.png
Wilma lvl 56 - Swords Dance/Earthquake/Rock Slide/X-Scissor @ Shell Bell
579.png
Forcell lvl 52 - Psychic/Focus Blast/Shadow Ball/Recover @ Scope Lens
sawsbuck-autumn.png
Doerae lvl 52 - Megahorn/Horn Leech/Jump Kick/Nature Power @ Big Root
565.png
Bosstoise lvl 47 - Surf/Aqua Jet/Smack Down/Strength :-X @ Rocky Helmet
643.png
lvl 50 - Fusion Flare/Extrasensory/Dragonbreath/Slash @ Nothing

MVP was easily Wilma, but honourable mentions to Doerae and Forcell.. they were the 3 main stars of the Final Showdown. Bosstoise is starting to fall away from the rest, he's just too slow and get's 2HKOd too easily. But Larvesta helped take down the Psychic guy, Bug Bite is strongth. Oh an my Reshiram is Serious :/

Well, my first playthrough with Galvantula, Samurott, Archeops, Sawsbuck, Sarmanitan and Reshiram was...really easy.

The E4 basically went like this. Galvantula used Charge Beam (times x), Galvantula sweeps! All of N`s pokemon were 1 or 2HKOed by something on my team and it was mostly the same with Ghetsis. After a Focus Miss, a combo of Signal Beam and X-Scissor took it down with Samurott tanking a Dragon Pulse.

Anyway, now to do a White runthrough I`m thinking of this team:
Emboar
Scrafty
Gigalith
Lilligant
Jellicent
Haxorus

Any issues?

Took my time and finished the full game (second e4 and all extras etc) last night. Fantastic game. Not sure whether to immediately restart and change month to April to play in Winter (assuming that works) or just play another game and wait until April comes around.

For the record I finished with this team:

Serperior Lv 68 Leech Seed (<3) Swords Dance Leaf Blade Strength (HIGHLY recommend this moveset for anyone using him in-game (used coil until you get sd)

Stoutland Lv 68 Return Wild Charge Dig Crunch (Didn't intend to use him but so glad I did. So bulky with intimidate and hits fairly hard too with silk scarf returns)

Simipour Lv 67 Surf Grass Knot Ice Beam Waterfall (Meh, probably my least favourite member of this team)

Scrafty Lv 68 High-Jump Kick Crunch Dig Head Smash/Bulk Up (Only used it because it was adamant. Amazingly bulky and HJ Kick is broken)

Galvantula Lv 68 Thunder Wave Thunder Bug Buzz Energy Ball (There was no way I wouldn't use this guy on my first playthrough and he didn't disappoint. Accurate thunder is great - also love the new animation for it)

Chandelure Lv 68 Will-o-wisp Flamethrower Confuse Ray Shadow Ball (So powerful but slow - will-o-wisp was invaluable)

Overall, GF did a great job. Enjoyed the ruins too and hope if a 3rd version is done dive is used more. Great music + great graphics. After a few more plays this will probably be my favourite gen. =)

Just finished the game. Easily the best Pokemon game ever made for handheld. The story was epic, I never felt like it was too hard or too easy, I thought the ending sequence from the Elite Four onwards was superb and that the Pokemon were all very fun to use.

Going to restart again soon, probably starting with Tepig and using completely different Pokemon (except Galvantula <3)

Here's a question: what do people think about Emboar's Heat Crash in game? Is it worth keeping a slot for? I can never tell how heavy my opponent's Pokémon are just by looking... What kind of base power does it have on most things you'll face?

Just beat the game. My Black version gave me the best natures, usually after only catching one. This is what I used

Samurott - Naive @ 45
Excadrill - Jolly @ 48
Scraggy - Bashful (one of the few bad ones) @ 48
Sawsbuck - Adamant @ 44
Daranitan - Lonely @ 44
Sigilyph - Timid @ 48

Bulldozed through the Elite 4 and N, but Ghetsis was annoying. Thank god for max revives.

Completed the E4(6?) a couple of days back wiiith...
Sawk, Musharna, Emboar, Haxorus, Cofagrigus and Reshiram.

All were roughly Lv50 (is there a Hall of Fame thing in this game, and if so, where is it?) with decent natures. Sawk was Naughty, Musharna was Quirky, Emboar was Quiet, Haxorus was Jolly and Cofagrigus was Calm. Reshriram on the other hand was NAUGHTY. I mean, seriously. Naughty with 'Likes to thrash about' (31 Attack IV iirc). What's the point of that? It's meant for SpA. *rage*

Actually I'm playing Black, and the Petilil you get from the trade there is fixed- Modest and Chlorophyll.

I could have bred it though, true.

Though, yeah, I just might replace Sawsbuck instead of Liligant.

Is it just me or is GenV the most gloriously self-aware Pokemon game yet? Between introducing yet another pokeball mechanic to be superstitious about, the path-blocking guard who gives you no excuse beyond saying literally "there is something ahead, and the road is closed now", Cheren in the intro being just short of saying "I've played a Pokemon game before, can we please just get on with this", and the psychics in the Celestial Tower who read your button presses...

Also, is this the first time "shiny" and "priority" have been the official terms in-game?

Is it just me, or is Sawk incredibly hard to catch? I brought a lv 14 one into the red and threw an Ultra Ball at it, and it escaped after the first shake of the ball. Am I just unlucky, or does it have a low catch rate?

Edit: Oh, by the way, how exactly can I activate the Victini event? Can I just go on Wi-Fi or whatever and download it?
