MEGA PIDGEOT - SPAM HURRICANE
Hello o/
This is my first team I've found worthy of a forum post. It consists of Mega-Pidgeot with Nasty Pass Celebi, this team can handle of most of the OU tier, (with the exception of Zard-X, which can be played around if necessary.) It is also not meant to be an amazing laddering team, as hyper offence loses to many other popular battling styles in the current Meta. It is meant to be used as a fun team to use. However it can be used on the higher end of the ladder quite well.
The Team:
Pidgeot @ Pidgeotite
Ability: Big Pecks
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Hurricane
- Heat Wave
- Hidden Power [Ground]
- U-turn
This set takes full advantage of Mega-Pidgeot's high base speed, which can out speed a lot of the tier. It also comes with a highly spamable move in Hurricane. One downfall with this set in particular is that it can be easily worn down by Stealth Rocks because it has no recovery. Roost can be added in the place of Hp-Ground, as other Pokémon on the team can handle Heatran.
Celebi @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 96 Def / 140 SpD / 20 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Nasty Plot
- Giga Drain
- Recover
- Baton Pass
This Celebi is the only bulky pokémon on the squad, it is meant to be a pivot to bring in other threats with baton pass. The nasty pass is also meant to be passed into Mega-Pidgeot to either sweep once checks have been taken out, or to give it an easy KO. However, swords dance can be replaced with nasty plot, and giga drain with seed bomb. This alternate would be used to pass into other pokémon on the squad. The Ev's in SpD are to ensure that Celebi isn't 2HKO'd by latios' Draco Meteor. The Ev's in speed allow Celebi to outspeed Adamant Bisharp, however Celebi is not supposed to be kept in on a Bisharp. The Spe Ev's can be altered to a have 108 in Spe, this enables Celebi an outspeed on Jolly Bisharp, however I believe the rest of the team can handle jolly Bisharp so it isn't as important. Celebi is also the dedicated switch in to Rotom-Wash and status.
Excadrill @ Air Balloon
Ability: Mold Breaker
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Iron Head
- Rock Slide
- Rapid Spin
This Excadrill is used as mainly a spinner to keep Mega-Pidgeot healthy as it doesn't have roost. It is also one of two pokémon to weaken Rotom-Wash. It has the standard spread and moveset. The air balloon can be replaced with Life Orb or Leftovers, although Life Orb decreases Excadrill's longevity and Leftovers doesn't allow Excadrill to come in on Scarf Landorus-T locked in on Earthquake to spin.
Infernape @ Focus Sash
Ability: Iron Fist
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Close Combat
- Mach Punch
- Stealth Rock
- Overheat
This Infernape is used as a lead 9/10 times, it is also used as a pseudo check to the likes of Bisharp and Weavile with Iron Fist boosted mach punch will OHKO a weavile and have a 93.8% chance to OHKO Bisharp. Overheat can be switched with Fire Punch as they offer a very similar damage output thanks to Iron Fist, it can also be switched for U-Turn for a pivot.
Raikou @ Choice Specs
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 30 Def
- Volt Switch
- Thunderbolt
- Shadow Ball
- Hidden Power [Ice]
This is the second pokémon that can take advantage of a Nasty Pass from Celebi, this pokémon is severely less reliable of a sweeper than Pidgeot as it is slower and locked into a move. Although can have sweeping potential once checks are weakened and Ground types are eliminated. Raikou has the standard set for Choice Specs. It is also used to weaken Rotom-Wash for a potential Mega-Pidgeot sweep after a Nasty Pass.
Azumarill @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 92 HP / 252 Atk / 164 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Belly Drum
- Aqua Jet
- Play Rough
- Knock Off
Finally, Azumarill is used as a secondary sweeper. The Belly Drum + Aqua Jet set relies on other pokémon to eliminate checks such as bulky Grass or Water types that outspeed and KO after the Belly Drum + Sitrus Berry (Such as Rotom-Wash or Serperior). These threats can be taken out by the likes of Mega-Pidgeot, Raikou or Excadrill. Knock Off can be replaced with either Superpower or Waterfall, this however removes the team's only Knock Off user which is very important in the current Meta. The Ev's are taken from the standard Belly Drum Azu set, the 164 Spe is to outspeed uninvested base 70s. The rest is in Hp to give Azumarill more bulk to survive hits and set up a Belly Drum. The Hp Ev's are also important to ensure Azumarill eats the Sitrus Berry after a Belly Drum.
I enjoyed using this team on the ORAS OU ladder and I hope you do too. Be sure to leave some constructive criticism below and have a nice day n_n
Be sure to send in showdown replays if you do decide to use the team on the ladder.
