[OU] Crocodile Dundee

I got sick and tired of using the same pokemon on similar teams in OU. So my quest was to find something different. I tried almost every kind of theme team but they all had very strict guidelines for the OU metagame. So in order to be different I tried basing a team around a non OU pokemon but still somewhat viable. I know in the end 5 out of the 6 pokemon are deemed standard in the OU tier but its importance is based around the gator. This team has been based around my favorite croc Feraligatr as you probably have guessed. It aims to help the gator to sweep. I have not been very successful with this team so I came here for some help.

TEAM BUILDING PROCESS

Well I started off with the gatr since he was going to be the center piece of the team.
Ani160MS.png

Next I needed a way to get rocks on the field and to spin opposing ones away. So the Starmie Metagross combo made the cut.

After that i was in need of a spin blocker who was bulky but could hold its own through status or attacks. So Rotom-H was chosen.

I needed a way of dealing with baton pass teams and phasing pokes. Gliscor made the cut.

Heatran came next as i needed a ghost resist and a revenge killer. He works well to eliminate many priority users such as scizor , metagross, mamo and more.

THE CLOSE UPS

120px-121Starmie.png

STAR POWER (Starmie) @ Life Orb
Nature:Timid (+Spe/-Atk)
EV's: 4HP/ 252 SpA/ 252 Spe
Ability: Natural Cure
-Hydro Pump
-Thunderbolt
-Ice Beam
-Rapid Spin

Originally I had star at the 2nd position as my spinner and meta as my lead. But I read the new smog article that came out and behold I was converted. This is the standard anti-lead starmie. Timid to speed tie with azelf and outrun any other lead other than aero or ninjask. Hydro Pump over surf so I can 2HKO swampert and hippowdon. Ice Beam and tbolt to create the famed boltbeam coverage and spin for getting rid of hazards. I chose starmie over any other spinner as it can hurt other pokes much better than any other spinner.Plus its ability allows it to spin toxic spikes and heal when it switches out. Life Orb for maximum power if the gatr fails and star is still around it can and will sweep a team.

200px-376Metagross.png

X FACTOR (Metagross) @ Lum Berry
Nature: Adamant (+Atk/-SpA)
EV's: 252 HP/ 244 Atk/ 16 Spe
Ability:Clear Body
-Meteor Mash
-Earthquake
-Bullet Punch
-Stealth Rock

My rocker for the team. He used to run explosion but I took it off since it usually switches in on other gross so I switched to eq. Lum berry so he can absorb status. Ev's were ripped right off the standard smog set. All this guy usually does is set rocks up and then he becomes a physical wall. Bullet Punch has saved my ass so many times. With star they team up and defeat every popular lead out there except trick leads (I hate trick leads!). His moves are pretty much self explanatory.

sigpic152167_2.gif

OVEN MITTS (Rotom-H) @ Leftovers
Nature: Calm (+SpD/-Atk)
Ev's: 252 HP/ 168 SpD / 88 Spe
Ability: Levitate
-Discharge
-Shadow Ball
-Overheat
-Will'o'wisp

He serves as my spin blocker as well as decent special wall. I chose to switch from the standard defensicve side to the special defensive side because my team was lacking in special defense and most of them were physically bulky. So I switched the ev's from def to SpD. Discharge over tbolt as i wasnt going to do much killing anyway so I went for status instead. Will'o'wisp is tro cripple any physical threat that may switch in. Shadow Ball for STAB and overheat for the likes of breloom and scizor. He is arguably the best spin blocker in OU as he can take on all OU spinners no problem star and tenta get discharged the latter is more tricky and overhaeat for forry.

230px-485Heatran.png

DISCO INFERNO (Heatran) @ Choice Scarf
Nature: Naive (Spe+/-SpD)
EV's: 4 HP/ 252 SpA/ 252 Spe
Ability: Flash Fire
-Fire Blast
-Earth Power
-Dragon Pulse
-Explosion

The revenge killer, He performs his job extremely well. He comes in and threatens anything without a resist to fire except Blissey but i just explode on that beyotch. Earth Power for opposing heatran coming in and dragon pulse to kill the likes of flygon and dnite. Naive nature as I can maximize explosion damage. Ev's are pretty standard for a revnge killer max speed and special attack to maximize his potential and rest put into hp for survivability. Flash fire helps it take the fire hits aimed at metagross. He also attracts the water types my gatr loves to set up on. Thanks to nosferalto for recommending this guy for me.

200px-472Gliscor.png

BATMAN (Gliscor) @ Leftovers
Nature: Jolly (+Spe/-SpA)
Ev's: 252 HP/ 40 Def/ 216 Spe
Ability: Sand Veil
-Earthquake
-Taunt
-Roost
-U-Turn

This guy works wonders for this team. He is awesome at setting up the gator. He attracts the bulky waters with water and ice moves. So gliscor uturns out into gatr who proceeds to set up with no problem. Jolly and the given ev's allow gliscor to outspeed heracross lucario and most base 100's.(Celebi, rachi) Max hp is amust and the rest goes into defense. Sand veil over hypercutter as ttar comes out to play quite often with star on the team. Taunt to phaze and roost to heal off damage. Eq for STAB and U-turn to help feraligatr set up.

160Feraligatr_GS.png

DUNDEE (Feraligatr) @ Liechi Berry
Nature: Jolly (+Spe/-SpA)
Ev's: 4 HP/ 252 Atk/ 252 Spe
Ability: Torrent
-Waterfall
-Return
-Substitute
-Dragon Dance

The star of the show. Feraligatr is usually called the gyara of uu so I needed to find out how the croc was better than the overgrown leviathan. That certain thing is his ability Torrent. This whole set is about getting to 25 % or lower Hp with the use of substitutein order to activate torrent. Where the gatr should have one dd and a liechi berry boost in order to sweep. Waterfall and return is only resisted by one poke in OU, Empoleon. Thankfully he is not that common. It is truly beautiful to watch this guy sweep 5 in a row (which has happened) but he struggles with priority users an physically bulky pokes like metagross.

Any Help with this team would be much appreciated as i need all the help I can get. Thank you in advance. Changes in RED

THANKS FOR READING!

I think that a welcome addition to this team would be Magnezone. He takes out Lucario and Scizor, two of the most prominent priority users that could ruin your Feraligatr sweep. He also can take out Empoleon if it comes out as well. What Magnezone could replace is a tough choice, which I'll leave up to you since you know your team better than anyone else. Most would probably say over Rotom but losing a Fighting/Ground immunity while gaining a Fighting/Ground weakness is not a great idea..

Your right about that prince I originally did have magnezone but it didn't work out well as my team is not that great with dealing with Heatran already.

You have a glaring DD Mence weakness, consider replacing Gliscor for Jolly scarf Flygon, it makes a great check to Mence and will give your team more momentum.

Other than that, good team.

I usually place this team on suspect so mence isnt around, sorry I didnt specify that already. On another note what do you guys think of making metagross my lead, starmie specially defensive and rotom as a trick scarfer. Do you guys know any good sets for specially defensive starmie?

Hi.

The main problem here is the lack of a reliable way to take down Ghost- types. As of now, you lack a Ghost- type resist which will make switching into a Shadow Ball a difficult process to achieve. Threats like Gengar and mainly Rotom-A seem to be problematic. It's really important that you have a good check to Rotom-A as it can possibly stop Feraligatr after it has set-up. In addition, I don't usually point out this problem but your team seems to struggle to get past Celebi. Defensive Celebi is able to counter Feraligatr without fail which is why it is crucial to have a decent counter to be able to counter it before you switch-in Feraligatr for the final sweep.

In order to solve this issue, I would reccomend replacing Breloom with a Choice Scarf Heatran. In fact, It seems like the most replaceable member of this team is Breloom because everything else is necessary. Heatran provides a well needed Speedy revenge killer as well as a Ghost- type resist and a decent check to the threats mentioned above -- Celebi, Gengar, Rotom-A. Scarf Heatran can switch into everything barring a Fighting-type attack, outspeed Gengar and threaten it with Fire Blast. Similarly, Rotom-A is taken care of in a similar manner and can also get a Flash Fire boost if it switches into Will-o-Wisp or Overheat. Heatran can also check Celebi quite well but be careful of Thunderwave and Earthpower. This change is quite important as it increases Feraligatr's chances of sweeping by adding a Pokemon that is able to take down some of it's checks.

Heatran @ Choice Scarf | Flash Fire
Naive | 4 HP / 252 SpAtk / 252 Spe
Fire Blast | Earthpower | Explosion | Dragon Pulse

On Gliscor, I would strongly reccomend using Toxic over U-Turn which also helps against Celebi and Rotom-A as it gives you a very handy weapon against Stall oriented teams. Gliscor can Taunt a member of Stall team to prevent it from using it's recovery move and proceed to wear it down with Toxic. You can just switch-out Gliscor against Bulky Waters as U-Turn damage is insignificant anyway so Toxic > U-Turn here.

To be honest, I dislike your Feraligatr set as it is vulnerable to priority moves, revenge killer and Physicall walls like Skarmory and Celebi. With the recent departure of Latias from the OU tier, the Swords Dance set has become even more viable. With SD, Feraligatr can boost it's attack twice as fast as the Dragon Dance version and utilize Aqua Jet to hit faster opponents. Just go for Waterfall | Swords Dance | Aqua Jet | Return with Life Orb and a 252/252 EV Spread.

Good Luck with the team.

You have a glaring DD Mence weakness, consider replacing Gliscor for Jolly scarf Flygon, it makes a great check to Mence and will give your team more momentum.

Other than that, good team.

Oh yeh, Scarf Flygon, beats +1 DDMence 50% of the time. What a brilliant check.

On a serious note, switching Metagross to your lead, and then scarfing your Starmie gives your team a decent check to both Gyarados and Salamence. The set is something along the lines of:

Starmie @ Choice Scarf
4 HP / 252 SpAtk / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
Natural Cure
-Surf / Hydro Pump
-Thunderbolt
-Ice Beam
-Trick / Psychic

Keep your current Metagross set, as it's already the standard lead Metagross. Keep Lum Berry for Machamp leads.

Other than that, you don't have any other huge weaknesses, with most threats covered.

Thanks for the advice guys.

@nosferalto : I'll try using the choice scarf tran for my team as all breloom does is sleep potential cointers, but with the gatr set I really like it the way it is.

@penguinX : I originally did have a scarfmie but I began to play suspect so the need to kill mence was no longer needed, rotom handles gyara quite well so Im think Im good in that department.

The only thing I'm not liking on this team that other people havent touched is return on your Feraligatr. I'd reccomend something like Ice punch. Which keeps only opens you up to waters a yeah, but lets you cover Grass, Ground, and dragons Super effectively. At the same time, since you'll already have +1 or more DD's, you should be able to OHKO Mence on his turn of set up. again, this opens you to water and steel types, and the best way to deal with that without totally changing your Feraligatr build is to make sure they're dead before you start the sweep. <--basic rule of sweepers. I like the team, I might snipe parts of this, cause I've been wanting to make a team around the gator for awhile.

Return and waterfall provide perfect neutral coverage (except Empoleon) I find ice punch unnecessary as I rather have amazing coverage as the gatr typically gets at least 2 attack boosts which is enough to ) OHKO most of the metagame with return when it is unresisted.
