Nintendo 3DS Discussion Thread

Yeah I'll also echo other peoples sentiments about Star Fox. I bought it during its first week out. All that money down the drain...

The main story mode is as hard as you want it to be. You can cheat and go through the easy mode levels and say that you 'finished' it or you can do it properly and finish ALL of the levels (not to mention getting all the medals and stuff).

To be fair it isn't a bad game. It controls well and I thought that it actually looked nice with the 3D effects (though I hate how they went back to the old character models; the Super Smash Bros models would have looked great). But it added absolutely nothing to the original game at all. If you've played it before there is no need to bother, and if you have a Wii you can get the original version for a much cheaper price anyway.

If you find it in a bargain bin/second hand shop going cheap though, I guess it can't hurt to have it in your collection.

Yeah I was really surprised by that. They added Masterquest and the boss rush mode to OoT3D. I have no idea why they just repackaged Starfox.
The funny thing is it was released during the period when Nintendo were trying to "relaunch" the 3DS under its new price.

Online multiplayer would have gotten more than a few sales, surely.

As a small tangent all the Star Fox games that appeared since the original 64 have been a slow and painful decline, not counting Star Fox Adventures which wasn't meant to be a Star Fox game in the first place.

Assault was good but the on foot part was really meh, the game was really straightforward and I think Star Fox needs those branching paths when they add variety. Multiplayer was always a blast for me.

Command was just awful and I had high hopes for this game, I'm still hoping for some sort of expansion on the idea of each character having their own Arwing. The problem being that interesting ships like Leon and Panther's could only be used twice, it was absurd. The endings were a huge let-down, each mission could be summed up as shoot enemies, take down missiles, blow up base, fight boss. Rinse and repeat. Multiplayer was online (but 64 3DS wasn't isn't that great!), but you were stuck with the default Arwing while in story mode there were so many different choices available.

It's no wonder they went back to SF64, it's what one half of the fandom has always wanted, more SF64 like games, which Nintendo misinterpreted as just more SF64. The other half of the fandom is just about furries and Krystal, at least last time I checked.

The lack of Star Fox on the wii is a huge disapointment and I can't help but feel this may be worse than Metroid was during the N64.

so basically what i got is stick with my n64 copy. i'm okay with that -- i'm having a BLAST with this game and urge anyone with an n64 to pick it up! i can't wait until a new one comes out for wiiu/3ds

in other news: what are you guys looking for in pokemon 3ds? an original title, not BW2 although i think that's ds anyway

FOR ME (please note that this is a dream list and not a realistic list...)
1. 3d graphics. time to make the change
2. open world with a questing system. even keep it so that you progress through towns by beating gym leaders, but for the love of god some awesome sidequests would be amazing
3. difficulty settings / harder game
4. a story

I'm more interested in seeing how Spotpass and Streetpass will be used.

Streetpass could involve simple things like downloading other peoples teams that you pass so you can battle them (though obviously there is the issue of getting bad or hacked teams). Maybe you could receive random items similar to the old 2nd gen Mystery Gift. Hell, if secret bases are bought back you could download other peoples bases!

Spotpass could involve nintendo sending you new trainers to battle and free items/pokemon. Maybe they could even send in new sidequests?

Put random dragon appearances and we got a Skyrim :D.

In serioisness what I would want is:

-Even if you don't make the game full 3d keep it the way its been but when you adjust the 3dslider it goes from over the top view to a 3d plane type of view making buildings look like they pop out.

-Customizable characters/apparel like mmo's(I got dreams ehh). At least it makes your character feels less bland

-Sidequest do sound fun too and we can get more via wifi

Theres alot of otherthings too haha, but those are what I want mainly.

Meh. Could work; could horribly, horribly fail.

This would be nice, but then you'd start reaching points where you just see the same thing over and over again. This is pokemon after all, not many places to go, unless of course they make a version where you can actually switch regions (please GF, please).

3. difficulty settings / harder game

OH MY GOD, YES!

4. a story

Isn't there already???

I'll just wait for Theorymon to show up.

I really hope it doesn't turn out like NSMBW. I liked NSMB a lot but NSMBW felt kind of forced at times. Worlds 3 and 4 were particularly uninteresting.

Whatever happened to that Wii U game?

I don't even care about New Super Mario Bros. due to this:

Sounds pretty awesome. RPG Fighting game apparently.

Did they really just put Sanger freaking Zonvolt in that game?

...

Calling it right now: Japan only.

They did.

I'm also not holding very high hopes this will ever see the light of day outside of Japan.

Looks to be the same style of fighting system as was used in the "Super Robot Taisen Original Saga Endless Frontier" games.

I've been a big Tales series fan dating back to Symphonia. I was lucky enough to pick up the last copy of Abyss the store had a couple weeks ago. I missed out on playing the PS2 version. This game is really special and a must have for anyone's 3DS library, especially if you didn't get the chance to play the PS2 version. I completed the story in about 45 hours, but I missed plenty of side quests and events along the way because I didn't want to be tempted to read any spoilers in online guides. Definitely worth another play through between the missing items, artes, costumes, and events as well as the completion bonuses.

Edit: That better not be Japan only....

Told ya so! I should really get back to Graces F. Also check out that video above as the Namco cast includes Tales characters =)

are all the charecters pixels? im a bit dissapointed if thats the case (my vision is a bit poor so please excuse me if im wrong). the 3ds has so much potential, and they released street fighter 4 on it for fucks sake. i would have thought that they would have made better models for the charecters (perhaps, in 3 dimensions?)

it also seems a bit slow.

but fuck, MEGAMAN! :D OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMMEGAMAN!

You are all that is wrong with the universe :(

Yeah, I hate to be one of 'those guys', but that narrow-minded view of graphics is something that can only come from the current generations of gamers who didn't grow up with the Sega Genesis or the SNES. What I saw in that trailer looked like a lot of fun, and the only way they're not making a killing in a market with that is if the game critically bombs. Even with my biases, I know not to buy a game that might not be any fun.

i am not narrowed minded. i grew up with megaman x and some weird clow ball game that came out on the same console.

also, why am i being targeted because of my opinion? i just stated my opinion and i get a mod telling me
You are all that is wrong with the universe :(

i was being sincere about my view, and i get fuckin, AARGH >:(
so...

I'm going to throw this out there because I think this classic series doesn't get the respect it deserves. Castlevania. Anybody really looking forward for a 3DS Castlevania? The ones on the DS were fantastic. Dawn of Sorrow, Portrait of Ruin, and Order of Ecclesia all had great soundtracks ( what Castlevania game doesn't ), awesome characters ( Julius, Shanoa, Charlotte, Jonathan ), weapon synthesis in DoS was fun and addicting to upgrade weapons, questing in PoR was also fun and addicting, and the glyph system worked great in OoE ( barring that one broken glyph you can get from that skeleton ). The games also had that Castlevania difficulty that made you really want to work at beating a hard part ( like the trials in OoE and that underground dungeon you can unlock in PoR after exploring the Castle enough ).

I can't wait for a 3DS Castlevania game. Although for some reason I feel like this series isn't appreciated as much as it should be. What did Konami do for the 25th anniversary? Nothing important I can remember.

I really want a 3DS Castlevania too, but I haven't even played Symphony of the Night and a bunch of the other older titles yet, so I don't really have to hold my breath on that one if I don't want to, ha.

Maybe they can finally give us that prequel to AoS/DoS, where Julius Belmont defeats Dracula "for good" and seals his castle into the solar eclipse which sets up the whole plot of the other games. Not to mention Julius was pretty badass. I wouldn't say no to a PoR sequel, but it felt weird that a non-Belmont (only a very distant relative if I remember) could use the whip, that just didn't fit much. Never tried OoE though, kept meaning to buy it but pretty much forgot about it.

I do agree though, a Castlevania game would be great and needs a 3DS game. However, it would have to be done in the castleroid or classic sidescroller style to "feel" right, as the ones they keep releasing for the main console systems...no...just aren't as fun imo.

I thought Jonathan was a Belmont.

Aria/Dawn of Sorrow was the best one they made since Symphony. Good times.

As far as a new one for the 3DS, I'd totally be up for a new game, but I'm not sure how 3DS-ish it would be. A lot of the nostalgia and fun comes from the side-scrolling. By comparison, the 3D Castlevanias have all been rubbish and I don't really know how you'd make use of the 3DS in a side-scrolling game.
