So I just went through ALL the new (and old) Pokedex entries for the USUM Alola dex. One because I'm curious in learning what new info they given the Pokemon... and to see if there was any odd/notable ones I could comment on. And, oh boy, were their:

The Rotom Dex Report

Rowlet (UM): It feels relaxed in tight, dark places and has been known to use its Trainer's pocket or bag as a nest.

Cute reference to the anime. :P

Incineroar (UM): When its fighting spirit is set alight, the flames around its waist become especially intense.

Umm...

Mega Lopunny (UM): Mega Evolution awakens its combative instincts. It has shed any fur that got in the way of its attacks.

Mega Evolution causes hair loss (to be fair, it is a form of radiation). #ZMovesBetterThanMegaEvo

Not a quote, but I'm sad to see that Furfrou's trims didn't get their own dex entries.

On a similar note, while there is a separate description for the Cap Pikachu it's shared by all of them and they're same ones from Sun & Moon.

Normal Raichu (US): As electricity builds up inside its body, it becomes more aggressive. One theory is that the electricity buildup is actually causing stress.

Oh, great, we're now vilifying normal non-Alolan Pokemon. Joking aside, I do notice a lot of descriptions of Pokemon make a quick mention how most are better in some way to other members of their species not from Alola. GF, I bought the game, you can stop pushing Alola now.

Alolan Raichu (US): It focuses psychic energy into its tail and rides it like it's surfing. Another name for this Pokémon is "hodad".

Um, GF or translation team, a quick Google search would have told you maybe "hodad" wasn't the best nickname. According to online dictionaries, a "hodad" is someone who hangs around beaches pretending to be a surfer but aren't actual surfers or are bad at surfing. It's meant to be an insult.

Chansey:
(US): It seems that other Pokémon's efforts to take its delicious, nutritious egg away from it caused Chansey to get faster at fleeing.
(UM): Because the eggs on their bellies have been overharvested by people in the past, the Chansey population remains very small.

Ah, so that's why they're rare and more likely to flee in the Safari Zone... to bad we're not in the Safari Zone we're encountering them perfectly fine in the wild and don't run away.

Mega Slowbro (UM): Having been swallowed whole by Shellder, Slowbro now has an iron defense. It's pretty comfortable in there, too.

It's being eaten alive. Remember this is Slowbro we're talking about here, is it comfortable or is it just taking too long for it to register it's being digested? #ZMovesBetterThanMegaEvo

Slowking (US): It's constantly coming up with new ideas that would change the world, but as soon as it hits upon a new idea, it forgets it.

Isn't the point of Slowking is that it's super intelligent now so that it doesn't forget? The other dex entry mentions it has matches of wit with Oranguru.

Pelipper (UM): It scoops up Wishiwashi in its huge beak and swallows them whole. It can devour more than 30 at one go!

BTW, Pelipper isn't the only Pokemon that now can apparently very easily prey upon groups of Wishiwashi. So much for being so feared that Gyarados run away from it.

Abra (UM): It can read others' minds and will teleport away when danger approaches. You must clear your mind if you want to catch it.

AKA, just throw the dang Poke Ball.

Kadabra (US): It stares at a silver spoon to amplify its psychic powers before it lets loose. Apparently, gold spoons are no good.

Which is odd as other things in the franchise relate gold to Psychics. The Marsh Badge in Japan is called the "Gold Badge" and in the Mystery Dungeon Series the gold gummies strengthen Psychic Pokemon.

Normal Muk:
(US): Their food sources have decreased, and their numbers have declined sharply. Sludge ponds are being built to prevent their extinction.
(UM): Because they scatter germs everywhere, they've long been targeted for extermination, leading to a steep decline in their population.

Do... do you want to save them or get rid of them?

Ekans (UM): The eggs of bird Pokémon are its favorite food. It swallows eggs whole, so sometimes an egg gets stuck, and Ekans faints.

Yes, "faints", that all that happens after suffocating.

Arbok (US): The latest research has determined that there are over 20 possible arrangements of the patterns on its stomach.

20+ regions confirmed?

Arcanine (UM): There are so many old tales about them that they're called legendary Pokémon, but there are way more of them around than you'd expect.

To be fair you could say the same thing for actual Legendary Pokemon nowadays.

This is a surprise, the Eternal Flower Floette has its own dex entries! So, does this mean we may be getting it?

Mega Sableye: Bathed in the energy of Mega Evolution, the gemstone on its chest expands, rips through its skin, and falls out.

It doesn't just dislodge and falls out, no, it RIPS OUT OF ITS SKIN. #ZMovesBetterThanMegaEvo

Tentacool (UM): Its body is 99% water. The remaining 1% contains the organ that makes its poison.

... I question this conclusion on the fact it has "skin", can eat, thinks and feels...

Mega Salamence (US): The stress of its two proud wings becoming misshapen and stuck together because of strong energy makes it go on a rampage.

So you're insulting it by calling it the "blood-soaked crescent"? #ZMovesBetterThanMegaEvo

Parasect (US): The bug is mostly dead, with the mushroom on its back having become the main body. If the mushroom comes off, the bug stops moving.

No more implication: the bug part of Parasect is (mostly) dead. You're killing your Paras if you let it evolve.

Goldeen:
(Moon): Spellbound by the length of its horn and the beauty of its fins, many strange Trainers raise Goldeen and nothing but Goldeen.
(US): Although known for their splendid tail fins, Goldeen apparently compete among themselves to see whose horn is thickest and sharpest.

Umm...

Seaking (US): Its horn spins like a drill to steadily hollow out rocks—even harder ones. The coloration of the male is more vivid.

UMM...

Seaking (UM): To attract females, males dance on the river's floor. The females gather around the male that dances most gracefully.

Guys, girls don't care about the size of your horn, they more care about the motion of your ocean.

Basculin:
(Red-Stripe, UM): When a school of Basculin appears in a lake, everything else disappears, except for Corphish and Crawdaunt. That's how violent Basculin are.
(Blue-Stripe, US): Even Basculin, which devours everything it can with its huge jaws, is nothing more than food to organisms stronger than itself.

GF, do you have different people writing dex entries for one species?

Mega Pinsir, Ultra Sun: After Mega Evolution, it becomes able to fly. Perhaps because it's so happy, it rarely touches the ground.

Alomomola (UM): The reason it helps Pokemon in a weakened condition is that any Pokemon coming after them may also attack Alomomola.

What? So Alomomola wants to be attacked? Like, sure, may stop the opponent from attacking the weak Pokemon but if you're their to help that kind of prevents that. If anything, you'll be the one that now needs help.

Salazzle (UM): It punishes Salandit that couldn't bring it food with a fierce slap of its flame-spewing palm.

Gotta keep that pimp hand strong.

Kecleon (UM): It changes its hue to blend into its surroundings. If no one takes notice of it for too long, it will pout and never reveal itself.

So it wants to be found? Why it is hiding than? Does it just want to impress everyone around it?

Palossand (US): Each of its grains of sand has its own will. Palossand eats small Pokémon and siphons away their vital essence while they're still alive.

So is each grain of sand possessed? Considering how many grain of sand it would take to make a Palossand, I find it highly unlikely that many have been slain on a beach.
Also how does this work with new sand added to it, and what happens if some sand gets left behind? Is that how new non-egg Sandyghast are made?

Kabuto:
(US): This Pokemon thrived 300 million years ago. It's said that living specimens can still be seen in a certain region—a rare sight.
(UM): This Pokemon became extinct everywhere, except in a few areas. It protects itself with its hard shell.

Kabutops (US): Its body had begun to change so it could function on land. But it didn't adapt in time and went extinct.

Are they extinct, or are they not? If they're are still some living, then they're not extinct. And you can't say Kabutops are extinct if there are living Kabuto; just cause they haven't evolved doesn't mean they can't.

Bastiodon (US): The bones of its face are huge and hard, so they were mistaken for its spine until after this Pokémon was successfully restored.

I'm no archeologist or physician but I'm pretty sure a skull looks looks different from a spine. Like I would maybe understand if they said they confused it for a rib cage or maybe an abdomen, but the spine which is actually a column of vertebra?

Archen:
(Sun) It is the ancestor of all bird Pokémon. Archen itself could not actually fly but moved by hopping from treetop to treetop.
(US) Once thought to be the ancestor of all bird Pokémon, some of the latest research suggests that may not be the case.

Okay, was a new bird fossil Pokemon discovered?

Tyrantrum (US): Complete restoration is impossible, allowing room for theories that its entire body was once covered in a feather-like coat.

Amaura (UM): Amaura was restored successfully, but it's not expected to live long because of the heat of the current environment.

MAKE UP YOUR MIND! Are Fossil Pokemon successfully restored extinct Pokemon or are they imperfect clones? They presumably go through the same process so it's not likely one can come out fully and another not.

Natu:
(US): It's said that while this Pokemon has the power to predict the future, it's not powerful enough to change the future it sees.
(UM): While it can see the future, it has no desire to change it, which is probably why it remains motionless at all times.

If it's unable to change the future why would it remain motionless if it has no desire to change the future?

Minior (Meteor Form-US): It lives in the ozone layer, where it becomes food for stronger Pokémon. When it tries to run away, it falls to the ground.

What Pokemon aside from Rayquaza live in the ozone layer, let alone ones who would prey off floating rocks?

Porygon2:
(US): AI has been installed in it. It learns various things all on its own, but it even remembers things it doesn't need to know.

So Porygon doesn't have AI?

Mega Houndoom (US): Its red claws and the tips of its tail are melting from high internal temperatures that are painful to Houndoom itself.

Mega Manetric:
(US): Mega Evolution fills its body with a tremendous amount of electricity, but it's too much for Manectric to fully control.
(UM): Too much electricity has built up in its body, irritating Manectric. Its explosive speed is equal to that of a lightning bolt.

HASH. TAG. Z. MOVE. BETTER. THAN. MEGA. EVOLUTION.

Gastrodon (East-UM): A relative of Shellder and Cloyster, this ocean dweller sometimes comes onto land in search of food.

A relative of the Shellder family?! Okay, at best they're both in the Phylum mollusca, but they'd both be in a completely different class; Shellos family in gastropoda and Shellder family in bivalvia.

Relicanth (US): Thought to have gone extinct, Relicanth was given a name that is a variation of the name of the person who discovered it.

Okay, this one you got to do research to make sense... and how it doesn't make sense in Pokemon no matter what language it's in.
Relicanth (Japanese name Glanth, the "gl" coming from the katakana for "old man") is based on the Coelacanth, a fish thought long extinct until in 1938 a Museum curator named Marjorie Courtenay-Latimer discovered it among the catches of a local angler. For the discovery, the genus of the Coelacanth was named after her, Latimeria.
So, for this description to make sense, Relicanth should have been named Relatimer (and Japanese being Glatimer) or some pun to do with the name "Latimer" or genus "Latimeria".

Lapras (Moon): These Pokemon were once near extinction due to poaching. Following protective regulations, there is now an overabundance of them.

Actually that's my bad. You wouldn't think hatching a Modest Lapras with Ground-type Hidden Power would take that long...

Mega Heracross (UM): A tremendous influx of energy builds it up, but when Mega Evolution ends, Heracross is bothered by terrible soreness in its muscles.

Get it? GET IT? Mega Evolution BAD! Z-Move BETTER! Hashtag!

Ambipom (US): In their search for comfortable trees, they get into territorial disputes with groups of Passimian. They win about half the time.

So they lose half the time? That's not really anything remarkable, unless it's noteworthy because they're Normal-type and Passimian is Fighting-type.

Sad to see that Pyroar doesn't have separate entries. Give the males and females their own description without having to share a general one.

Lickilicky (US): A contest is under way to determine which one can stick its tongue out the farthest. The current record is...more than 82 feet.

EIGHTY TWO FEET? No, just no. How? Where is it storing all that tongue? To give perspective, that's half a length of a(n American) Football field!

Lucario (US): It concentrates its mental energy and fires off mysterious waves called auras, which can crush boulders of large size to dust.

So aura is a psychic thing and not ki thing? Than why is Aura Sphere a Fighting-type move? Why isn't Lucario part Psychic?

Buzzwole, Xurkitree, & Guzzlord (Ultra Sun) and Pheromosa, Celesteela, & Kartana (Ultra Moon): Although it's alien to this world and a danger here, it's apparently a common organism in the world where it normally lives.

Aside from Nihilego and the new Ultra Beasts, for some reason the the other Ultra Beasts all share a dex description depending on what version of the game you have. Like I would have understood if they did that for the version exclusive UBs not in that version of the game (though might still complain about it) but Xurkitree and Guzzlord have this done for them. And not only that, but which one has it for what version is also odd. Once again, it doesn't go by version exclusivity, no matter what version you have you'll see this dex description for at least two Ultra Beasts. Ultra Sun players get the worst end of the stick here as they'll see it for four Ultra Beasts, meanwhile Ultra Moon only has it for its version exclusive (and yeah, the UBs that are version exlcusive have this dex entry for the version they're catchable in). Is this a mistake?

Finally, Original Color Magearna has a dex entry. Being this is its generation, are we getting the Original Color Magearna? Seems more likely than Eternal Flower Floette.

I’m pretty confident that “them” are the weakened Pokémon, not Alomomola. As in, if there is a predator pursuing the wounded Pokémon, then Alo restores them in order to not be alone while eventually facing the predator.

Starting off soft though, in Ultrasun and Ultramoon if you bring a pokemon from the virtual console releases of R/B/Y and G/S/C to the Gamefreak building of Heahea city and talk to Morimoto (the male veteran trainer model) you'll get trivia regarding the creation of those games.

If you bring a pokemon from Gold you may get this trivia:

You know Piloswine? I designed that Pokémon. I felt like I had to get all 12 animals in the Chinese zodiac together, you know?

Well that's cool, gotta have a pig in your zodiac. But wait, what does he mean by "all 12"? Did we actually have a complete zodiac back in the Gen 2 era? Let's explore it!

First the uncontested pokemon, the clear representatives:
1. Rat - Rattata, Raticate
2. Ox - Tauros
5. Dragon - Dragonite
6. Snake - Ekans
7. Horse - Ponyta
9. Monkey - Mankey
12. Boar/Pig - Piloswine

Next the dubious but probably intended ones:
4. Rabbit - Nidoran. Although they evolve into kaiju monsters, so they're pretty odd for bunnies.

8. Ram/Sheep - Mareep. This is more interpretation than literal, as Mareep is clearly a sheep but did they mean Piloswine was made to complete the Zodiac started in Gen 1 or are Gen 2 mon's valid as well? Cause if it's not Mareep, I don't know who it could be in the original 150.

11. Dog - Growlithe or Houdour. Growlithe is actually based on a Shisa, which is more a lion-tiger-dog mix, but if Growlithe isn't the dog then Houndour fills that role nicely. Granbull could also be the dog, alternatively.

Finally, the ones I can't figure out:
3. Tiger - ? Possible tigers could be Growlithe again, as it has the stripes for it. But again it's supposed to be a Shisa, which is more lion with tiger and dog features than a true tiger. Another candidate could be Raikou, as it looks the part better and is based on a raiju (a thunder beast that can take the form of a tiger). But that gets us into the legendary dogs/cats/beasts/gerbils debate.

Without Torchic I'm really grapsing at straws here (Pidgeot with it's crest might be rooster like? Farfetche'd? Moltres?) Who is the rooster Gamefreak?!

Starting off soft though, in Ultrasun and Ultramoon if you bring a pokemon from the virtual console releases of R/B/Y and G/S/C to the Gamefreak building of Heahea city and talk to Morimoto (the male veteran trainer model) you'll get trivia regarding the creation of those games.

If you bring a pokemon from Gold you may get this trivia:

You know Piloswine? I designed that Pokémon. I felt like I had to get all 12 animals in the Chinese zodiac together, you know?

Well that's cool, gotta have a pig in your zodiac. But wait, what does he mean by "all 12"? Did we actually have a complete zodiac back in the Gen 2 era? Let's explore it!

First the uncontested pokemon, the clear representatives:

That's certainly interesting.

First, regarding your question about other Gen II Pokemon being created to fill the Zodiac since some seem like the only option to fill certain animals, let's consider the vagueness of the trivia. Morimoto saw that there was Pokemon who could fill the other 11 Zodiac places so designed Piloswine to be the missing pig. From what it sounds like, this was happening during Gen II's development which would mean many of the Gen II Pokemon would have been created.
Let's take a look at the other two likely Gen II candidates: Mareep & Raikou. I can see these being one of the first batch of Gen II Pokemon made. We know that Mareep was one of the original 190 Pokemon, based on the cloned sheep "Dolly" until cut (and later changed to be a reference to the science fiction short story "Do Robots Dream of Electric Sheep"). Raikou, being a Legendary, was also probably created early in Gen II's development. So I would say they are Sheep and Tiger.

Rabbit is likely Nidoran and Dog is Growlithe despite their origins and/or what they change into.

As for rooter, going to say probably Moltres. A lot of media combines the Rooster with the Fenghuang, the Chinese Phoenix, which Moltres is based on.

Sun/Moon patched up an unclear case in older games which was that the player character apparently just give up their position as champion. And while that is another mystery in itself, the one I'd like to focus on is: Why does the player character need to beat the E4 again to get to their rightful throne and what would happen if someone were to challenge the league while the player character is faffing about with one of the many post game distractions? Would they just be told to wait to get a shot at you or do the doors just not open?
My hypothesis is that the player character is bad at scheduling and responding to calls from challengers. So people who wanna challenge the league will be waiting on a call telling them the player character is at the League.

I have 3 hipothesis for the rooster.
The first, is Moltres, as sayd by Pikachu315111 .
The second, is Spearow, and look at him. He kinda looks like a rooster.
The third, and most likely, is Doduo. Look at him. Is a bird, but cant fly.


For the Tiger, I would bet on Persian. Persian is too tall to be a cat, with 1.0 m.
Know what is the average height of an adult tiger? From 70 to 120 cm, so Persian is in range.
And a cat evolving to a tiger makes sence, dosnt it?

Aside from Nihilego and the new Ultra Beasts, for some reason the the other Ultra Beasts all share a dex description depending on what version of the game you have. Like I would have understood if they did that for the version exclusive UBs not in that version of the game (though might still complain about it) but Xurkitree and Guzzlord have this done for them. And not only that, but which one has it for what version is also odd. Once again, it doesn't go by version exclusivity, no matter what version you have you'll see this dex description for at least two Ultra Beasts. Ultra Sun players get the worst end of the stick here as they'll see it for four Ultra Beasts, meanwhile Ultra Moon only has it for its version exclusive (and yeah, the UBs that are version exlcusive have this dex entry for the version they're catchable in). Is this a mistake?

Finally, Original Color Magearna has a dex entry. Being this is its generation, are we getting the Original Color Magearna? Seems more likely than Eternal Flower Floette.

Silly, Pikachu315111, you actually expected Gamefreak to define what aura is. Ever since the day Lucario was conceived, aura just means whatever the hell is convenient for the plot. No seriously, one day aura is a spiritual substance that everyone has, the next it's just spidey sense, the next its just a macguffin used to open up time flowers, the next is stuff that powers up the user the more beaten up he/she gets, and the next its the stuff that powers up the Totems into god status Its aura flared up its attack and speed rose

Doduo is pretty clearly based on an emu (although hypno28 is right that the name is based on the dodo). Either that or a deer, a female deer.

Puns aside, using the "can't fly, must be a chicken" logic is a little weak too, as there's plenty of flightless bird species (ostriches, cassowary, penguins, turkeys, peacocks).

But bringing up the Fenghuang is interesting as the wikipedia entry for the bird notes it sometimes replaces the rooster in the Chinese zodiac (and is nicknamed "the August rooster").

However, I don't think it's Moltres, as that bird is more a western phoenix or a Slavic firebird at best and not a fenghuang. It's overall body shape is more crane than chicken. But guess which Gen 2 pokemon is based on a fenghuang and has some rooster-like features?

Ho-oh's name is actually a retranslation of fenghuang (and in some languages it's literally called fenghuang). Considering Ho-oh showed up in the first episode of the anime and long before it's game inclusion, I say it's safe to assume that Ho-oh was the rooster and Piloswine was created to complete the zodiac later.

Next mystery. When you step up to a large pile of berries, a wild Pokemon jumps out. Why is it always a crabrawler? Other Pokemon eat berries too, when you give them to them. Why wouldn't they in the wild?

Well, the fact that Crabrawler is buried under a pile of berries suggests it was standing under the tree for a long period of time, probably waiting for berries to fall so it could chow down. Perhaps this specific feeding behavior is unique to Crabrawler?
