SV OU My SV OU team!

My first SV OU team!

So I started playing SV OU a bit late, about when bundle got banned. This is my team, heavily based off of either sweeping or being just annoying as hell(dondozo).

My first mon is Orthworm. This is my hazard setter and shed tail mon after cyclizar got banned. It has a simple role-open, set hazards and then shed tail to a sweeper. Orthworm is extremely bulky on the physical side and can hold up with an attack or two against heavy attackers like great tusk(who can also get rid of the hazards) and chien pao.
I put sitrus berry on it because once it uses shed tail it can use it again if needed to set something else up.

- Stealth Rock
- Spikes
- Shed Tail
- Iron Head
Usefulness Rating-8/10

My next mon is Dragonite. This thing is absolutely broken with Tera normal espeed and great coverage. I haven’t put dragon claw on this set as with dd(dragon dance) more coverage works best according to my mind after a bunch of battles. It can set up behind the sub from Orthworm along with multiscale so it can pull off a few dragon dances before attempting to sweep the opponent. Its main walls are unaware users and that’s where dnite struggles the most.
Hdb protects it from annoying hazards like stealth rock but I do sometimes switch it out for Lum Berry to avoid nasty burns and paralysis.

Usefulness Rating-8/10

Now on to my fav mon to save myself-Dondozo. With this thing’s extreme bulk and unaware ability it’s able to tank everything(with a few exceptions) and set up with curse. You could switch liquidation with wave crash but rest sleep talk works really well as whenever dondozo’s health gets low you just rest and sleep talk to keep pissing off your opponent. Meowscarada is the one wall to this as with flower trick it goes through the curse boost and crits so it becomes a problem. And also leftovers because…. It’s leftovers and it’s a bulky mon.

Usefulness Rating-9/10(meowscarada is the only one to stop this)

Another one of my favourite sweepers is the golden fellow.
With its absolutely insane ability makes it a good wall for mons that clear hazards such as corviknight and great tusk as the ghost type comes in handy.
As for its item I gave it scarf as it outspeeds pretty much everything with it and with good special attack it doesn’t really need specs as with make it rain it can still do HUGE amounts of damage. I understand that the special attack drop from make it rain is nullified for one turn with specs but I’d rather it outspeed most things than hit hard. Another reason to give it scarf is Dragapult which with its speed can wipe out half my team.

EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Make It Rain
- Shadow Ball
- Thunderbolt
- Dazzling Gleam

Now onto the raw firepower of my team. Iron valiant with specs it smashes everything that doesn’t resist it and with decent speed it outspeeds quite a bit of the meta without scarf and specs works well. I’m not running a physical set due to the abundance of dondozo and special firepower is a nice addition to the team due to me leaning on physical sweepers. It counters annoying mons like ting-lu with ease even with the spatk drop it works well to get rid of it.
Alternatively I could give it a booster energy to boost its sweeping abilities and make it heavy in speed, but for me specs works better.

Ability: Quark Drive
Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Moonblast
- Focus Blast
- Psychic
- Shadow Ball

My last mon is the most changeable one and I have changed it 7 times. For me Skeledirge works best for me with throat spray as a fun concept of an unaware sweeper with torch song.
Tera fairy really works well with Tera blast and can help the mon defensively as it bolsters its defensive type coverage. Slack off to regain health and earth power for coverage. Maybe I could switch slack off for shadow ball to get extra damage and stab before becoming Tera.

Tera Type: Fairy
EVs: 248 HP / 252 SpA / 8 SpD

- Tera Blast
- Slack Off
- Earth Power

My alternatives for Skeledirge are as follows-
Chien-Pao
Pawmot
Quaquaval
Espathra
Dragapult
Ting-Lu
Great Tusk

The main threats to this team are any heavy sweepers or stallers. This includes Iron Hands, Ceruledge sometimes is scary, a regular garchomp sweep set, other dnites, dondozo and big time stallers like blissed and alomomola.

Please feel free to give me tips and critique as it is RMT after all!

Thanks

Hey!

This team has a lot of trouble with common Dondozo + Clodsire cores, with no real consistent way of beating it; Dondozo walls Dragonite for days while Clodsire easily handles Valiant and Skeledirge. To this end, I would recommend two changes:

:iron valiant: Swap Psychic with Psyshock. Most Clodsire users may see this coming; so it requires good prediction to land it, but it deals upwards of 94% to standard Clodsire, and is Valiant's most consistant way of beating one of its most consistent walls. I'd recommend Thunderbolt over Shadow Ball in order to handle Corviknight, but right now Gholdengo provides more of a threat to your team and Corviknight can be handled with Skeledirge.

:gholdengo: Swap Thunderbolt for Trick. Land a Trick it on a defensive Pokemon and you can greatly, greatly limit their ability to be an effective wall. I would also consider swapping Dazzling Gleam for Focus Blast, as the fighting coverage and stronger power is just better for common switch-ins like Kingambit and Ting-Lu.

Your team also has a trouble dealing with Ghost-types, like Dragapult and Gholdengo, who can really terrorize this team with Shadow Ball spam. I would recommend swapping Orthworm and Skeledirge in order to make a more offensive defensive backbone for your team. Ting-Lu can maintain hazards and can help check a whole wealth of threats, like the aforementioned ghosts and Volcarona. Great Tusk or Iron Treads are probably the best hazard removers, though Corviknight can go a long way as a defensive pivot to get your breakers like Valiant and Gholdengo in.

In my personal opinion, if you are going to run Orthworm, you might as well go Hyper Offensive. I recommend checking out this team: https://www.smogon.com/forums/threads/orthworm-espathra-ho-2k-1.3714105/#post-9469093
Notice how it is Orthworm + 5 really strong wallbreakers and sweepers designed to overwhelm common checks and threats. Orthworm has trouble on balance teams because it is a bit one note and easily whittled down, and usually can only really get one Shed Shell off. Ultimately, your team, as it is now, is not offensive enough to make full use of the extent of what Orthworm provides, so I would ultimately consider just removing it for something that will provide more long-lasting value.

Hope this helps!

Hey!
Thanks so much for the reply! This advice is very useful and I have made some changes that you recommended. I have switched Orthworm for Ting-Lu and Skeledirge for Corvi.
I don’t really know what the set for Ting-Lu should look like but I just put moves that I thought would be relevant to its role.

How is it now?

Moveset looks fine but I would swap the Defense EVs for Special Defense

I’ve found out that I kinda struggle against trick room Hatt a lot
Clodsire / Hatterene / Kingambit / Garganacl / Iron Valiant / Dragonite

this is the team I got absolutely bodied by and I’ve faced similar teams about 3 or 4 times and lost all of them
Anything i can do to counter this?
