Mr. Mime discussion.

Sorry, no clever title. Anyways, I looked in the sticky, and I saw that this guy hasn't been discussed yet. It's almost a crime!

Mr. Mime
122-m.png

STATS:
HP: 40
Att: 45
Def: 65
Sp. Att: 100
Sp. Def: 120
Spd: 90

Ability:
Soundproof (Immune to sound based attacks)
Filter (Reduces SE attacks by 50%.)

Physical options:
Focus Punch
Fake Out

His attack stat is so horrid, only Focus Punch is viable, and pretty much only for Blissey. Fake Out is good for double battles.

Special options (STAB in italics):
Psychic
Shadow Ball
Thunderbolt
Grass Knot
Energy Ball
Hidden Power
Focus Blast

Not great, but not bad either.

Support options:
Thunder Wave
Hypnosis
Recycle
Encore
Reflect
Light Screen
Trick
Role Play
Calm Mind
Trick Room
Confuse Ray
Follow Me (XD move)
Baton Pass
Skill Swap
Taunt

Bingo. This is where Mr. Mime really shines. He makes an excellent trick bander with 90 speed. Hypnosis, Calm Mind, and Baton Pass are also huge plusses as well.

With Filter, he HAS NO WEAK. Not a bad ability at all. He can absorb some hits on the special side, due to his high SpD, but can barely take physical hits at all with 45 HP and 65 Def.

Mr. Mime @ Filter
Choice Specs

Psychic
Thunderbolt
HP Fighting/HP Ice/Grass Knot
Trick

Absolutely screws physical sweepers. If you don't want to screw yourself in the process against CBers, simply hammer away with the special attacks. HP Fighting is good for TTar, but probably won't be a OHKO due to Sandstorm. Psychic for STAB, and Thunderbolt for type coverage. HP Grass for Swampert and the likes, and HP Ice for Salamence who will be absolutely unaffected by your trickbanding shenanigans.

Mr. Mime @ Filter
Choice Band

Focus Punch
Hypnosis/Thunder Wave
Psychic/HP Ice/Thunderbolt
Trick

A regular trickbander. Focus Punch mainly for CBtar, since he will not be affected at all by your trickbanding. Hypnosis.. is well.. hypnosis. Obviously this should be used after you've tricked away the CB. Psychic for STAB, HP Ice for Garchomp, blah blah.

Mr. Mime @ Filter
Leftovers/Life Orb

Calm Mind
Psychic/Shadow Ball
Thunderbolt/HP Ice/HP Fighting/Grass Knot/Energy Ball
Thunder Wave/Hypnosis

CMer. Can really put a dent in things after a couple CMs, but you will still be vulnerable to physical attacks. That's where Hypnosis comes in. Energy Ball if you want to deal with Manaphy and other lightweight pokes.

Focus Blast can replace HP Fighting, but I don't like a 30% chance of missing against the likes of TTar and Weavile. You just can't afford it. It MAY be viable for TTar since HP Fighting might not OHKO, but HP Fighting should OHKO Weavile anyway.

Discuss.

I kinda feel bad for him; as far as gimmicks he is mostly just a worse Alakazam, and with that base HP even in UU he is awful iffy even with that fairly nice SD score and Filter.

On the bright side unlike Azelf, Alakazam, and his other, faster Psychic competitors he can survive a CB Weavile Pursuit thanks to Filter, although since he's slower than Weavile that really doesn't help him too much, not that he's likely to make much of an appearance in OU anyway.

I kinda like the Trick + Choice Specs set since he can use the specs before he tricks them if he wants, should be fun to play with in UU.

I am curious how much Filter will end up helping him, it is a very neat trait, as Rhyperior has proven with his slightly inferior version of it.

Do super effective attacks do normal damage, or 50% damage (like a "not very effective" attack)?

With some prediction, Mr. Mime could simply not switch when the CB Weavile is using Pursuit, and force feed it a 4x SE HP Fighting.

Filter simply makes SE effective attacks neutral.

You forgot to put Follow Me (XD move) on Support options.

If Fake Out hadn't been an Egg move, he would've been the only one able to do a Fake Out + Follow Me + Trick Room set.

Still, he's the only one who can do Trick Room + Follow Me, and that should be interesting... for something like Power Trick Shucke or something similar.

If Weavile is locked into Ice Punch or Brick Break or whatever it's probably going to switch (although I'm fairly sure two Ice Punches is a KO), and if it's locked into Night Slash you're already dead.

Either way the main threat is Weavile revenge killing or switching in on Psychic(or even Thunderbolt), switching Mr. Mime into Weavile even if you know it has a CB is kind of asking to get killed.

Mr.Mime has no weaknesses with Filter, so what about this moveset??

122-m.png

Mr.Mime @ Leftovers
Trait: Filter
EVs: 252 HP / 144 Def / 112 Spd
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Hypnosis
- Thunder Wave
- Reflect
- Grass Rope/T.Bolt/Psychic (too bad you can't get Seismic Toss + Filter :S)

Double Status, Sleep + Paralysis could work well, you Sleep one Poke, and then Paralyze the one that comes next :D.

Reflect is an obvious choice, since a physical Sweeper is likely to come in.

Enough Speed to outspeed Jolly Tyranitar so you hypnotize it before it attacks, if you fail you still can survive its Crunch with around 40~49% of HP Left.

I think this Set looks like the one of my Jynx -__-

As far as the BP team goes, Skarmory can have both drill peck and whirlwind this generation, so no free mime run-in's. This overall hurts Mr mime's chance at making the BP team a second time around.

Even with Filter, a CB Jolly Weavile Pursuit on switch out will OHKO a min/min Mr. Mime. Obviously, Mr. Mime probably won't be min/min, but it still KOs max HP/min DEF.

i always saw mime as a nice set up man. put up a reflect/light screen. if you don't make it out alive, well that sucks but the next pokemon has some decent defenses to reak some havoc.

What about if it doesn't switch out, Misty? Like I said before, if you predicted a Pursuit, you could use HP Fighting instead of switching out. Provided Pursuit doesn't kill you, HP Fighting should OHKO Weavile.

Mime has learned Baton Pass by level up ever since GSC days... you don't think it deserves a mention in the support movepool? :Z

I'm pretty sure he's the only Hypnosis + Baton Pass user (fuck you nay-sayers with your Smeargle nonsense) and a decently well suited one at that.

Hypnosis + Calm Mind + Baton Pass + Reflect Mr. Mime with Filter has NO WEAK!!!

Driftblim learns Hypnosis via Egg Moves. And Baton Pass.

however, Mime makes a good UU(Maybe even BL) CM Passer, Filter might make it better than Espeon, but its close. I think a CG Set for UU might work well.

Mr Mime @ Choice Glasses
Timid 4 HP/252 SpA/252 Spd
Thunderbolt
Energy Ball
Psychic
Focus Blast/HP Fight

Energy Ball Screws over Quagsire(which I dislike), but I really don';t think it can switch into anything physical . It has really bad HP.

In the Advance Pokédex, chaos really advocates Mr. Mime because he can do the CM/BP debatebly as well as Espeon. I really like Mr. Mime, I think he's really underrated.

Don't forget Skill Swap in its list of support moves. There are a lot of Pokémon that can make better use of Filter than Mr. Mime can. An Abomasnow or Vespiquen looks a lot more durable once it only has one weakness (Fire or Rock, respectively).

EDIT: On a side note, I like how it took Mr. Mime until 4th Gen to learn Mimic naturally.

I hated him originally, he didnt look pokemoney to me if you know what i mean.

Then when i got into competitive battling I bred one and it was the first pokemon I ev trained.

Yeah.

He has some good support and stuff, his abilities are cool, but the stats arent up to much and are what let him down. Basically sums him up.

You forgot the pretty cool Healing Wish in his support moves. At least, I think he can get it - it doesn't appear on his Serebii page, but it appears as a Mime Jr. egg move, despite the fact that Mime Jr. cannot breed. I take this to mean that you can breed a Mr. Mime with a Lopunny, producing a Mime Jr. with Healing Wish, and then evolve that into Mr. Mime.

Anyway, I just battled a Mime Jr. ingame, and in typically irrational fashion, I now want to train one more than I want to do that Stephanie off Lazytown, and that's saying something. Healing Wish is clearly well cool, as is Trick. I'd round that out with Psychic and Thunderbolt for decent type coverage. Well, I already have a Mr. Mime from Leaf Green with Psychic/Substitute/Calm Mind/Baton Pass, so the two will be sufficiently different. Awesome bloody Welles.

The cool thing about Tricking Choice Specs with Mr.Mime is, his sDef is so much higher than his Def that it practically begs for a physical attacker, which in turn gets completely screwed over. And if your opponent is smart enough to anticipate that, you can just attack with em. I'm totally trying this in my Anti-OU UU team. ^_^

Mr.Mime isn't just a worse Alakazam. Although the stats are the same, Baton Pass and superior Special Defense give him a completely different role.

I actually think Power Swap would work well with this and some physical moves. TTar switches in? It gets Power Swapped, giving it LOL 40 Base attack and you can Brick Break it to hell. It can then either switch or be owned. Use it with SR or Spikes support.

Power Swap doesn't work like that. It swaps stat increases/decreases, not the stats themselves. So if Mime Power Swaps a Tyranitar after it Dragon Dances, Mime gets the boosts and Tyranitar loses them.

Ah, so it totally blows then. (Although Power Swap Mewtwo eating all the SA Boosts of CM'ers is quite OMG.)

What happened to the sticky on the trait topic, btw?
