monster rancher 2

who ever played/plays this fucking gem of a game?

i think it's my favourite game of all time, but all the other monster rancher games suck horribly. this one is where it's at. after like 8 years of playing it i am a total master at it, but i break it out every summer and it never bores me.

Used to play it. Friend got Diva (Or whatever it's name was, that giant dragon) for me, so I just use it most of the time =D

You know Glen, you love this and Digimon World which are easily 2 of my all time favorites, ESPECIALLY this.

YES THANK YOU GLALIE

both this and digimon world pretty much define the life i hide from my friends

Oh shit. I have fond memories of both this game and Digimon World. My friend had both games, and we would spend hours on end raising our digital beasties. It was the best.

I remember I got so excited when I got my digimon to evolve into an Andromon, he was fucking badass.

The craziest thing I ever got was Dragon + the whale thing I forget its name... It had insanely high Attack but it lived for like 2 years since the two of them have the shortest life spans. Zilla is the whale isn't it? I think I just remembered

Glen, thank you for this.

I have a badass Naga, and then

OH GOD. NOSTALGIA RUSH.
I HAD JILL.
THAT BIGASS YETI.
DEAR GOD.

thank you more than you know.

Ahh I've had some fun with Digimon World in my time. But it was too easy to accidently erase saved files in that game and lets just say thats happened to me at least twice.

I've played MR 3 and found it okay, is MR 2 honestly better, or would I be wasting my time buying it?

yes dude. mr2 is unbelievably good. to make mr3, they never should have changed anything, unfortunately, they changed everything.

MR2 is definitely the best game in the series (although the MRA games were both great too, which is surprising sort of considering how badly most console games transfer to handhelds).

I rather hate MR's online community but as far as the one player aspects of each game I always preferred Monster Rancher to Pokemon.

And since it also got brought up, Digimon World 1(but not 2 or 3 or 4!) was such a wonderful game, it is definitely on top of my non-FF-playstation titles list with MR2 and Metal Gear Solid.

agreed with everything said here, cept for the monster rancher advance comment since i never played them.

i break digimon world and mr2 out each once or twice a year and pretty much just have a ball

I don't think I actually own a copy of Digimon World anymore which is really unfortunate, I keep meaning to ebay one so I can play through again but I never actually get around to doing it. Before I got into any other Monster-themed game I had one of those Digimon tomagotchi clones that the raising system in Digimon World is based on which I think really boosts my nostalgia levels of that game a lot... it was the first RPG I ever beat, too. It amazes me how the devs decided to take such a radically different direction in future Digimon Worlds after creating such a great game...(I suppose MR2->MR3 had much the same problem).

I'd definitely check out Monster Rancher Advance/2 if you get the chance though, they're fairly similar to MR1 and 2 as far as gameplay goes, but the monster generation system is a lot more convenient(you enter letters/numbers into a tablet and the monster in generated based on what you input, as you gain breeder rank you can enter more characters for more powerful monsters) and the expedition system is a bit better, imo. They even bring some characters back from previous MRs(I forget which of the Advance games it is, but Holly returns from MR1(and the anime, lol) as an assistant) and generally seem to be aiming for the MR1/2 feel... if you get a chance to pick it up, do it.

Additionally while I am reminiscing about amazing monster themed games that should have sold much better than they did, Dragon Warrior Monsters is still my favorite game of all time I think. Pretty good breeding leveling system, the music was really solid for its time which is a lot of why I liked it I think, and the combat system was considerably better than MR, Digimon, or Pokemon's system IMO since it was pretty much just a slightly modified version of the traditional Dragon Quest/Warrior shit... I have a difficult time explaining it in a way that will do it justice but that's another game that probably costs
about three wads of gum and a paper clip now I would check out!

EDIT: And yeah Glalie, Zilla was the whale, he was my favorite species aesthetically I think although it was a little underwhelming in combat...

General Tso - Diva was in both of the Advance games, I know it was one of the last bosses, if not the last boss, in one of them but I forget the details exactly. Diva was the first and only monster I maxxed out on MRA2 thanks to exploiting a fairly nasty fatigue reducing bug.

MR1 was awesome, but MR2 was just that much more amazing.

Lisa Shock certainly killed the MR online community, it was great before she sorta took over everything. Stupid cunt.

I go through and raise a monster to demolish the big 4 every year or so, I will forever love the MR series. Unfortunately I love it enough to have every Playstation based MR release, sigh. Oh well.

I should go dig up some of my old monster's stats for the fun of it...

Here's an amusing fact. My first hall of fame monster was a colorpandora with four max stats. He was awesome.

Let's get married

Haha, you have me beat there... I never did get a hold of Hop-A-Bout... although as far as series offshoots go the Playstation version of MR Card Battle was pretty solid(although the GBC one really wasn't).

Why is it when I tried to access this thread a box came up asking me for a username and password for a "restricted area" of legendcup.com?

Anyway, I've played monster rancher advance, and nothing else related to the MR series. Sorry. I thought MRA was a pretty good game, though. I played through it a bunch of times, and I still remember the first time I ever beat the Diva (255 in every starting stat is just ridiculous). It was the first time I had used a zan (well, it was technically a zan, sub-dragon), and I remember nearly dying. I haven't touched the game in forever, though. I should dig it out again.

edit: Glen, whatever pic you tried posting in post #15 of this thread is apparently what is causing that box to come up. It appears to be protected.

MR2... Oh my goodness. I remember this game! I still have a copy of it... I should bust it out again. The one thing that interested me was the Swim Glitch. It was hilarious to see a pile of mud with 999 defense...

dude thats awesome, my best monster (at least i think so) is a maxed colorpandora. 999 in all stats, though i did use paradoxines. i kinda shitted it up by getting every single one of its techs, though (which means the ai will do crap you dont want it to more than youd like). however it is cool having delta attack and vitalritual (it was annoying as fuck bringing him from best to worst nature, my god).

Holy crap, I'm currently obsessed with this game. After my trip to South America, I remembered how completely addictive this game was, and I've barely been able to put it down since.

It was my 2nd PS game that I ever got, and one of my favorites. Just recently, I've been training a Rock Saurian (his card is just absolute sex. Coolest looking monster IMO, and my favorite), whom I just got maxed out. He just beat the Major 4 and entered the Hall of Fame, and went on to beat that white Sue-zo who's name escapes me. At the moment, I'm working on his attacks, of which he's only missing five, all locked in tech chains (Aerial Claw, Million Bites, Bite Throw, Burning Roll, and Fire Bomb). Must say I'm quite proud, considering Zuums and their sub-species have one of the most extensive lists of tech chains in the game from what I hear.

However, I think he only has about 1 1/2 years left to live. I've already fed him a Gold Peach, and I have my Silver one waiting, but the fact that he has to enter tournaments so many times just to use his attacks followed by the errantries are going to beat in on his remaining life span. I'm not sure if all those Magic Bananas I'm stuffing him with and the Silver Peach will be enough to get him to unlock and learn all of his remaining attacks.

You know Glen, you love this and Digimon World which are easily 2 of my all time favorites, ESPECIALLY this.

I concur completely and wholeheartedly. Digimon World (1) was my FIRST PS game, MR2 following shortly after. Love both games to death.

I loved MR2, my maxed out Muuchi+Tiger pwned all. That was probably the best game of the series. I didn't like Digimon World 1, though :[

A game I'm addicted to is Digimon Card Battle. It was so simple yet so good. I loved it.

I've been thinking about this a lot and I think I'm gonna play it again. I was never all that great at it though xD

Haha, I still have that one and I really liked it too. I'm almost embarrassed that I played that one through to the end as soon as I got it but the card game itself was surprisingly good(especially compared to Digimon's terrible real life TCG) and the anime characters existing in the plot probably made it more interesting for me too, haha.

The various 'Sevens' cards were cool gimmicks imo, they were a lot of why I liked the last stages of the game so much I think.

I think I'm going to too... I wanna buy a new copy of Digimon World 1 and play through it again too, and I've been meaning to play Dragon Warrior Monsters for a while... this thread has sent me on a monster game kick it seems ><

Oh wait, we were talking about regular MR? I thought we were talking about the advanced versions XD

I've watched my friend play both this and DW2 O.o
