Metallica- Ride the Lightning

Okay, I can't even begin to tell you guys how amazing this album is. It is my favorite album of all time and it is truly a magnificent piece of art. Here goes my rating!!!

1. Fight Fire With Fire~ 9/10
It opens with a slow, cheerful acoustic melody then breaks into a fast, aggressive thrash assault, which makes us reminisce about Kill Em' All. I personally think it is a great way to start the album.

2. Ride the Lightning~ 8/10
This is one hell of a title track. I love the fierce, ominous opening notes. This may sound cheesy, but it really does remind me of a lightning storm. =P (Yes, I know it's about the electric chair.) I love the chorus!

3. For Whom the Bell Tolls~ 10/10
This is my favorite song off the album!! This is a great demonstration of Cliff Burton's mad base skills. (Listen for the opening notes- that's a base, not a guitar =P) I love singing this song! This track will definitely stay in my top ten list for a LONG time...

4. Fade to Black ~ 10/10
This is no joke the first song that made me cry. The acoustic opening just breaks my heart. Not to mention the lyrics! I wanted to give James Hetfield a hug. Anyone who has only heard Metallica's thrashy stuff will be thrown off by this slow, depressing track.

5. Trapped Under Ice ~ 8/10
Very fun song. I can imagine myself at a Metallica concert singing this one at the top of my lungs. My favorite chorus off of the whole album is in this one! =P

6. Escape ~ 7/10
Every album has that song that tends to be mediocre compared to the others, and for me, it's this one. However, Ride the Lightning is so awesome, even the runt of the family is awesome and fun to listen to! :D

7. Creeping Death ~ 8/10
One of the first songs I heard off of RTL. I love Hetfield's vocals on this one. The part where they are chanting "DIE! DIE! DIE!" makes me so happy!! It makes me want to go to a Metallica concert even more...

8. The Call of Ktulu ~ 7/10
9 minute instrumentals? No thanks. XD I do like this one, though. I just personally like the instrumental Orion off of Master of Puppets more.

That's my review!!! I hope you like the album as much as I do!!!

With me Metallica is really a hit or miss band. They've got some awesome songs like Enter Sandman, One, and of course Nothing Else Matters. The thrash stuff doesn't do anything for me though. Are there any other Metallica songs you'd recommend that aren't thrash? Oh and I think my friend taught me part of The Call of Ktulu on the guitar for some harmony thing.

Metallica without thrash? Are you fvcking kidding me. That is like saying you want to eat peanut butter and jelly without the peanut butter. That is like saying you were going to pound some hot sloot but you forgot your dick. The only songs you like from them are the mainstream ones and you sound like a pvssy for saying you want to hear metallica without the thrash. No offense though.

Good review I'd just raise RTL rating a tad.

Thrash metal does nothing for me. Not because I'm a pussy but because I find the whole genre is mostly screaming and indistinguishable guitar riffs. Everything tries to be as heavy as possible and they seem to comprimise the music for it. (especially the singing) I find Metallica is not the typical thrash band though and has some great guitar riffs and at times great vocals. i don't mind if there is some thrash in the songs but the screaming shit annoys the hell out of me. In case your wondering the metal I listen to mainly is the stuff from the 80's.

Sorry, but I cannot respect someone who listens Enter Sandman, One, or Nothing Else Matters. Don't get me wrong, Sandman's a good song, but I really only gravitate towards the first three albums. So yeah, that's a REALLY dumb question you asked.

Metallica is from the 80's too. XD Metallica barely ever screams, the loudest they ever got was on Kill Em' All. Metallica also has some lovely, melodic songs (fade to black!!!), so there is no music that is compromised. Also, while most thrash bands such as Slayer are very loud and aggressive, not all thrash is pure noise. Megadeth is a great example of this!

It's my review, my opinions. =P You could make one to rival mine.

I was pointing out how Metallica is different from other thrash bands and I agree they have some awesome melodic songs. In my first post I was looking for some recomendations of songs that are less thrash as Metallica is not a complete thrash band.

Metallica is at their best in their first three albums and yeah they do not scream. If you want melodic and good singing I'd check out the genre of Power Metal.

Uhm what exactly are you asking for?

Pick up the black album then, but you should know that Metallica is considered a THRASH metal band, therefore the majority of their work (and considered their best) is in fact thrash metal.

If you don't like the thrash genre then Metallica wouldn't be the wisest choice for you to listen to, you would probably like Maiden and Priest a lot more. You should give the thrash stuff a try, black album is a good starting point but their real masterpieces were during the thrash days.

Fade to Black and Creeping Death not being 10's is criminal, but otherwise your scores are about right. And if you want a more melodic metallica, your best bet is the black album and a few songs from Load and Reload.

Escape on par with Call of Ktulu? What?

Review seemed kinda lacking in detail, and Fade to Black is my second favourite Metallica song ;;

Sorry if I'm sounding too negative, I really love this album (Better than Puppets imo)

"Escape on par with Call of Ktulu"
Huh?

Also, this was my first review, sorryyy =P I'll go into better detail next time

This is actually my favorite album ever, thanks to Fade to Black. I just love that song; the acoustic is fantastic, the metallic riff is very catchy, and the solo is just awesome.

Metallica is usually frowned upon by my friends due to things like...say, Death Magnetic. But THIS, this is a great, if not their very best, album out there. Good review, ya

Thanks.
And EVERYONE frowns upon Death Magnetic, except silly preteen boys who have never heard early Metallica.

What you just said translates to: "Sorry, but I cannot respect someone over something arbitrarily dumb. Do not get me wrong, I fully admit that this is dumb, but I personally find it dumb, so yeah, you are REALLY dumb." Quality criticism buddy.

Wolfie, Thrash metal bands don't scream o_o. Megadeth never does, Anthrax doesn't. Slayer is the only one of the 4 that may and even then you can still understand what they are saying O_o.

...no, pretty much any band in any genre can insert screams into any sort of song. The exceptions are things like super soft music, not fucking THRASH metal.

Terrible review.

Good album.

Never listen to it anymore but it's still one of the few things Metallica put their name to that doesn't suck.

my favourite metallica album i think. The S&M version of Call of the Ktulu is much better, it doesn't feel so long as the RTL version.

escape kinda blows
