Metagross(Trick Room Tank)

Metagross (Trick Room) @ Iron ball
Nature: Brave/ Sassy
Moveset:
Meteor Mash
Hammer Arm
earthquake
Explosion/Hone Claws/gyro ball
Evs: 252 Attack/ 92 defense/ 160 Sp. Defense/ 4 speed

This is an interesting set I thought of. One, Metagross holds an iron ball. In Trick Room, this is pretty much a free agility. Brave or sassy is to maximize the trick room. Meteor mash is your good ol' stab attack, with 150 base power with STAB. Hammer arm is a hard hitting fighting attack, and under the trick room, the reduction hammer arm gives is like a +1 boosting move. Earthquake. Thats all that needs to be said about such a glorious move. The final attack is an interesting one with several options to choose from. Explosion might have had a power cut this generation, but it still hits like a truck. Really annoying if Metagross is about to die. Hone claws boosts your attack to 607 with brave and 553-554 attack with sassy. It also corrects meteor mash, which has an 85 accuracy; not the most accurate thing in the world. Gyro ball is for when trick room wears off. It will hit 95.4%-112.4% with a sassy nature to a 0 defense Ev Salamence and 104.5%- 123.3% with adamant.

Checks and counters
Any pokemon with high attack and a hard hitting STAB attack will take out metagross because he will go last. This metagross is a tank and will take weaker attacks.

Pokemon like skarmory completely wall this set, not fearing M.Mash, hammer arm, or earthquake.

SET UP TRICK ROOM! I don't recommend bronzong, mostly because he shares the typing with metagross. Other trick room pokemon like Reuniclus work. Unlike metagross, he has a specially oriented stat spread and a plethora of support moves. If you are really in the mood to do something out there, try a trick room sandstorm team (Tyranitar is slow?) Reuniclus isn't affected due to magic guard and MGross has no fear due to typing.

Trick room: the single most confusing thing about pokemon.

Metagross is plenty slow with -Spe Nature and 0 Spe IVs without holding an Iron Ball. Life Orb is more useful to bolster its offense.

I am not confident that this set would go through QC tbh. Not all potential Trick Room abusers go on-site, only the particularly exceptional ones, such as Reuniclus. You may need to provide logs to prove its viability in OU.

EDIT: Why 4 Spe EVs?

Thank you for telling me. I am currently working on other members of the team and will post some more comments about this once I can use the thing. (I've seen things like this before. I just thought that an even slower one could be more destrucive because he would be able to slowly use H Arm until its speed is practically 0.

It is a good idea! This thing packs a lot more power on any other move, except Gyro Ball, than Bronzong(and even Gyro Ball is stronger in many situations because Metagross with Iron Ball is super slow).
Also @ Pocket ,Iron Ball is a must, i think, because it lets Metagross underspeed a lot of threats that would underspeed him and powers up his Gyro Ball more than LO does more often than not. Also Metagross appreciates the lack of recoil to preserve his nice bulk!

For example without Iron Ball Metagross has 130 speed which is not that slow. Many pokes like Slowbro,Gastrodon,Reuniclus,Bronzong,Conkeldurr and Ferro underspeed you in TR while with Iron Ball you outspeed all non-TR variants of them!

Also Hammer Arm is wonderful for hitting Ferro, having a way to damage Skarmory and generally is much better than Hypnosis which OTR runs in the last slot.It also makes you ''faster'' in TR and powers up your Gyro Ball!

The only sad thing is that Metagross cannot setup TR on its own, like Bronzong does so i don't think it will get the QC approve.Dedicated TR abusers without the move TR rarely get accepted.

But i fully approve of this set as Metagross is very bulky, very powerful and has very good coverage!

Also i think that you should slash Thunder Punch and Ice Punch somewhere as they hit harder than any other moves on this set foes like Gyarados,Starmie,Jellicent,Skarmory,Politoed,Dragonite,Salamence,Gliscor and Landorus!

Finally i also think that you should remove Explosion and Hone Claws from the last slot and slash the two elemental punches along with Gyro Ball!
Explosion is too weak this gen and is very situational imo. Also this Metagross is bulky and should be able to stick around for a lot with its wonderful resistances.
Hone Claws is nice to use on a predicted switch-in but you already have only 3 turns to abuse TR.You don't need to make them 2.And anyway Metagross doesn't need the boosts to do its job since it is already very strong and anything that counters you, does so even with the +1 i think.
My advice is to put both in the OO section and slash the 2 elemental punches in the last slot!

Question?

This is a question for Nexus I ended up posting a DW breloom section that you put under the sub-catergory "Locked". What does that mean for my account?

nothing, just that nobody can post in the thread anymore

Is there a problem for repeated offenses like that? I have several analyses I have written in Microsoft WORD of S. Tag Chandelure and Contrary Serperior. I want people to read it. Is there any place I can post them?

The format is incorrect, you didn't put a Quality Control tag in the title, and this is essential a regular Metagross meant to be used under Trick Room.

There are other Pokemon that can make better use of Trick Room than Metagross (Reuniclus, Victini, etc). If I were using Metagross, I'd much rather use Trick + Iron Ball to deter Rotom-W and Skarmory switch-ins. Metagross would much rather other things such as hitting hard right off the bat with Choice Band, setting up SR, or even going the mixed route with HP Fire. This say may have its benefits, but I don't think it needs its own on-site set: many Pokemon can be used under Trick Room, but only those that really shine under it (Reuniclus, again) are given a set. If anything, this should be given an Other Options mention.

You're welcome to submit other sets for review, but before you do, please make sure to read the formatting rules. You should also consider providing logs of the sets you're submitting in action to convince your audience. You can also check out other threads in this forum to see how your thread should look like. Don't be discouraged, all contributions are welcome!
