ORAS UU Mega Ampharos Team- FABIO!! and company defensive team

I recently created a UU team, and have had some success with it. This team has gone through more testing and a few edits since I first posted it, so I have edited it to reflect those changes. As you'll see, some of the suggestions below are now included in the team.

FABIO!! (Ampharos-Mega) (M) @ Ampharosite
Ability: Static
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 64 HP / 252 Def / 144 SpA / 48 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Volt Switch
- Dragon Pulse
- Rest
- Sleep Talk

Throughout my time playing UU and watching Gym Leader Geo and aDrive use Entei in league formats, I knew that I needed an Entei counter. FABIO is that counter after it Mega evolves. With this spread, I take only 30% from CB sacred fire and can rest off the damage and burn or volt switch out. Ampharos also is a member of my volt-turn core with Crobat and, due to its poor speed, it gets me into my wallbreakers or an appropriate check for free. Mega Ampharos doesn't like ground types that block volt switch, but Krook, Donphan, and the Nidos don't like taking a dragon pulse from a base 165 SpA Ampharos.

The speed investment is to outpace M-Aggron after mega evolution and Donphan, and being able to get about 50% on those are a huge help to my team. I didn't need to be fully physically defensive, so I dumped the rest in SpA.

Static pre-mega has actually come in handy a few times, paralyzing an Arcanine a few times lol. I even paralyzed a Krook once, which makes no sense because Krook is a ground type but hey I'll take it.

Brobat (Crobat) @ Sky Plate
Ability: Infiltrator
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 Atk / 112 Def / 144 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Brave Bird
- U-turn
- Defog
- Roost

Crobat fills many key roles for this team:
-Hazard removal
-Speed, which my team lacks (speed investment outspeeds base 115s). I didn't go max because the only things I gain from adding 100+ more EV's into speed are a, outspeeding Sceptile pre-mega, b, have a chance to win a speed tie against other Crobats which sometimes I don't want to do to get a slower u-turn off, and maybe not outspeeding a scarfer. However, most scarfers are going to outspeed me anyway, so that doesn't matter much.
-A U-turner to pair with Ampharos
-A revenge killer
-Something that can deal with heracross and other fighting types
-Counters Whimsicott, although it doesn't like stun spore

Crobat is the glue for this team, and for someone who has a relatively defensive team keeping hazards away is crucial. I have gone back and forth on using a defensive or offensive crobat. There are benefits to both, but without offensive crobat my team is weak to Celebi and cannot revenge kill conkeldurr well.

Heatproof (Bronzong) @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 64 HP / 252 Atk / 96 Def / 96 SpD
Brave Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Gyro Ball
- Stealth Rock
- Toxic
- Earthquake

This is my answer to M-Aero and Nidoqueen. The offensive investment is to OHKO standard nasty plot Azelf after LO recoil with gyro ball. It also destroys M-Aero and helps compensate for my team's lack of speed. The only problem with this is that Fire Blast Nidoqueen blows through this and I obviously can't run heatproof Bronzong. But without Bronzong, Nidoqueen obliterates the rest of my team.

Pebbles (Mandibuzz) @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Overcoat
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD / 4 Spe
Impish Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Whirlwind
- Roost
- Foul Play
- Taunt

Mandibuzz fills a few key roles. It provides a good counter to metagross and conkeldurr (I take only 37% from an ice punch and can roost off the damage). It also helps me against stallier teams due to taunt. Taunt is really nice against pokemon like Cress, Suicune, Empoleon w/rocks, M-Aggron, etc. Whirlwind is to phaze out opponents which is very important for my defensive team.

Conkelderp (Conkeldurr) @ Assault Vest
Ability: Guts
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 SpD / 4 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Drain Punch
- Knock Off
- Thunder Punch
- Mach Punch

Conkeldurr gives me a status absorber, specifically on scalds from the likes of tentacruel, empoleon, and suicune. It also adds offensive presence to my team, and also gives me priority which my team was lacking. I have considered running a more offensive item than assault vest, but even with max SpD investment it takes 30%+ from a defensive Empoleon's scald and, if it gets burned, can be worn down very quickly if they switch into something that doesn't allow me to heal back much with drain punch.

As for the final slot, I am currently undecided with what I want to use. I am definitely open to suggestions. During the Hydreigon suspect test, I decided to sit back and get other people's opinion. I used Florges as was suggested below, but I think it made my team too passive.

I have some of the main things covered, but have found it challenging to have good checks to every major threat while not having a really defensive team. Hydreigon, CB Entei, CB Krook, Mamo, and M-Aero are all very common, but the problem that I have run into is that if I have good checks/counters to all of those then my team is too passive. Plus the opponent isn't going to bring all of those, so the pokemon that were meant to check them provide little use.

If hydreigon isn't banned to BL/OU then my team will definitely need an answer to it as the sixth member while ideally also providing some offensive presence too.

Hey dude interesting team!

Bubbles (Celebi) @ Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Nasty Plot
- Giga Drain
- Psychic
- Substitute->Shadow Ball/Dazzling Gleam
Your match up versus cress is looking pretty awkward so shadow ball can really aid you there, while dazzling gleam is another option to hit mons like hydreigon. Honestly I feel the substitute isnt so necessary on a mon with natural cure as well as the amazing natural bulk it carries even allowing it to live an aerial ace from aerodactly when at max HP.

As for sylveon if you were looking more for fairy with a bit more bulk on the special side you're probably better off running florges:
Florges (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Flower Veil
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Wish / Calm Mind
- Synthesis
- Moonblast
- Aromatherapy

Florges is a tad bit of a downgrade with its smaller wishes, but it can make up for it in its ability to keep itself healthy as well as act like a win condition at the same time.

As for the scrafty, ill be honest its a pretty bad mon in UU and if at all possible its best to try and steer clear of it. luckily we have the perfect mon for you being:
Conkeldurr @ Assault Vest
Ability: Guts
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Drain Punch
- Knock Off
- Thunder Punch
- Mach Punch

Its a great offensive pivot allowing you to check and or cripple the mons you mentioned while also offering you strong priority.

Finally the nidoqueen set is okayish although with offensive queen you usually want the coverage instead of the dual hazards. however with your weakness to psychic moves being so rough you might want to switch it to Empoleon its up to you.
Empoleon @ Leftovers
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Scald
- Ice Beam
- Stealth Rock
- Roar

Yeah I realized after awhile that Scrafty just wasn't a good choice. It was there in part to check M-Aero, but for some reason I thought it was a good idea for a fighting type to check it lol. Florges over Sylveon also makes sense, and is a change I will definitely make. One concern I have with this team is my weakness to Nidoking and Nidoqueen. They both destroy M-Ampharos, Crobat, Emploeon, Florges, and can hurt Celebi on the switch, so if you have any advice on how to patch that up that would be good. Also, you put roar on Empoleon twice :).

Furthermore, my team still is weak to celebi and M-Aero, which, while I have won games against them, they are more difficult to beat especially because celebi is so versatile. Ideas anyone?

Oh sorry mate I am tired ill fix the double roar, as for the queen/king issue the best I could do for you is the AV conk. if you want you can make the team a bit more short lasting by running offensive defog empoleon:

Empoleon @ Shuca Berry
Ability: Torrent
EVs: 212 HP / 252 SpA / 44 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Ice Beam
- Grass Knot
- Defog

How about this over Empoleon?

Bronzong @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Gyro Ball
- Toxic
- Protect/EQ

This gives me a X4 psychic resist, gives me hazards, a Nidoqueen, Nidoking, and M-Aero switch in. With Gyro Ball and no attack investment, I can easily KO M-Aero too. This doesn't cover Fire Blast Nidoqueen, but in my experience the Nidos don't run that very often because they have four move slot syndrome. It does make my team more passive than offensive Empoleon, but the Nidos are everywhere so I think it would be worth it. It also completes my fairy-dragon-steel core which is nice. I've run into Bronzong on the ladder and it is a pain in the butt to deal with if you aren't prepared. Florges is so hard to take down with Bronzong and M-Ampharos soaking up poison and especially steel hits all day. Quite the defensive core in my opinion!

If youre using mega ampharos you shouldnt be fearing aero to begin with, the bigger issue I was looking at was NP azelf but tbh with the right coverage it can plow through empoleon as well, tis the curse of slower teams. zong will aid your matchup as long as those psychics dont click their coverage move which most have the option to besides sylveon who just appreciates spamming hyper voice.

M-Aero can slowly chip down M-Ampharos though. An EQ can do up to 49.8% and a Stone Edge 32-37%. It does force it out due to volt switch, but it is not a super reliable check, especially if they also have a CB Entei or a Gyardos that Ampharos must keep in check, for example. I honestly could run a semi-offensive Bronzong. It is a thing (although uncommon), but if I run a +Atk -Speed nature and 252 attack EVs, I 100% KO standard Nasty Plot Azelf after LO recoil. It wouldn't really miss the defensive investment either, because Bronzong has great natural bulk. I could go max attack max HP, allowing me to handle M-Aero, Nidos, Mamo without knock off, and Nasty Plot Azelf. Thoughts?

i also had this as an idea:

Celebi @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- U-turn
- Leaf Storm
- Psychic
- Signal Beam

I was talking to someone (not on this specific thread though) and they mentioned how I was weak to Celebi. This set does several things for my team. A, it provides a form of speed to revenge kill things. It also provides me with another u-turner to go alongside crobat, making it so my defensive mons can come in for free sometimes, making it hard to wear them down. With signal beam, I can counter other celebi and, unless they are also scarfed max speed timid with signal beam like me, I will force them out or kill them which will prevent them from setting up. Although U-turn and signal beam have some overlap, since Celebi is a special attacker in this build using u-turn on opposing Celebi doesn't make a ton of sense. Plus, if I u-turn out I can't kill and will have to switch into something else. As if all that wasn't enough, this gives me more offensive presence which my team appreciates at this point.
