Its masks are fine, but we consider that with its bulk and it still having Supreme Overlord, may be too strong of a late game sweeper, remove 20 HP and change Supreme Overlord to another ability.

While it cannot boost its Spd anymore due to the removal of Trailblaze, it still has a scary Spd stat that makes its SD sets very threatening, Ogerpon-Portalbreaker's STAB Tough Claws-boosted Ivy Cudgel can be very scary to switch into and even more if SD-boosted, and Ogerpon-Glacierthorn is broken, as it pressures the opponent to not use Fire-type moves, as if they do, they will have to deal with a +2 Atk Ogerpon that easily sweep a weakened team, remove Tough Claws from Ogerpon-Portalbreaker/Keep Ivy Cudgel non-contact and remove the reworked Thermal Exchange from Ogerpon-Glacierthorn, both into non-damage boosting abilities.

Iron Bundle still has an insane Spd stat, and still has access to Quark Drive + the Hydro/Ice Beam/Freeze Dry combo, making it still a broken strong sweeper, as its basically unnerfed from how it is in SV Ubers, remove 40 Spd, Freeze-Dry, Quark Drive and remove the "ability when tera'd" part bc it cant tera, as that was the formatting only Ogerpon could be in.

For now, we will be on a hiatus to test out the meta. As said before, you can submit sample teams and sample sets for our set compendium, and also viability rankings!

We will be organizing a roomtour soon, and we would appreciate anyone interested in joining!

Hi!
Sorry for the long hiatus, but now that Slate 10 is coded in, we are now announcing our next roomtour!
We will be making a poll on our discord server on what time do we make the tournament, voting ends on Thursday 11:59PM!

After the roomtour, we are going to buff and nerf many of the Pokemon on the format, so we would appreciate any participation possible! See you then!

Roomtour results are up and...
Congrats me and Tanny89k for winning the roomtour!

Aurorus-Glacier seems to just be pre-nerf Emboar-Storm all over again, and maybe even better. With one Rock Polish it outspeeds all of the non-scarfed mons in the format, and then it just gets to spam Diamond Glow and Freeze-Dry, and can actually use its tera amazingly as if it gets taken on by a Starmie or Iron Bundle, it can bait a Water-type move and tera to get Water Absorb, and then using them as setup fodder to easily sweep with its perfect STAB combo.

Surprisingly Flygon got the most usage. I havent used it, but it seems like a very flexible wallbreaker and offensive pivot, that also has inmunity to grounded hazards, which are common in the format, while also resisting Stealth Rock, but it is followed by Corviknight which was the mon with the most usage last roomtour, and also Emboar-Storm, which still works maybe too well as a late-game sweeper, even after the removal of Bulk Up, as it has the all the bulk, STABs, recovery and coverage it needs to pressure the opponent to give it free turns, which is all a Speed Boost mon needs, we also saw the comeback of Drifblim, who was almost not used on the last roomtour, but was very common on the first, with its normal, Hot-Headed and Noxious forms making an appearance here.

Surprisingly there werent many weather teams this roomtour, which were quite common last roomtour with pairs like Gigalith + Exca, and Sinistcha-Scalding + Solg-Sunflower. Offensive teams are still the stronger archetype, but unlike last time, i saw some more Bulky Offense, and around the start of the roomtour i tried out a Stall team, and while i used it for only two of my five battles, it did well, with mons like Gigalith-Graveyard, Jellicent, Toedscruel-Mushroot and Corvi being great on the archetype.

So now, its time for the nerfs and buffs!

Nerfs:

:aurorus:
-Rock Polish, (Glacier) Replacing Water Absorb with Hyper Cutter.
Rock Polish let Aurorus overcome its biggest weakness, of being quite slow for a sweeper, and we belive the 50/50 situations it can create with Tera'ing into Water Absorb are unhealthy.

:emboar:
(Storm) Replacing Speed Boost with Simple.
Now it has to sweep by using Flame Charge/Trailblaze w Simple, so it still retains its speed-boosting aspect, while also having to use turns to boost its speed, which can be taken advantage of, and due to it still having Bulk Up removed, the only way it can boost its attack is with Curse, which leaves it vulnerable to any decently fast Ground type like Excadrill and Toedscruel.

Buffs:

:boltund:
+15 HP and Atk, +5 Def and SpDef.
Since the start of the format, Boltund has been very weak, with its only notable role was Boltund-Lights being a decent offensive check to Druddigon-Sharpshot, but even then it was iffy as if it got to +2 Spd it outsped Boltund and ko'd it with whatever coverage it had, then it got outclassed by Emboar-Storm as a physical Electric-type and Absol-Archangel took the role of Boltund-Lights as an offensive MBounce user. With the +20 Atk it can actually hit decently hard now, and its defenses are very low even for a fast and offensive mon, so a slight buff works well for them.

:gardevoir:

(all masks) Swap their tera abilities with their normal abilities, change their masks type to be Ice/Fairy, Ground/Fairy and Poison/Fairy respectively, as they were originally meant to be.
While normal Gardevoir did see an appearance on this roomtour, its masks are currently very weak, as they are all outclassed by faster and stronger mons, Ice, Ground and Poison/Fairy type are way better than their Psychic counterparts, with Sandshroud being a specially interesting special attacker, with a perfect STAB combo and its now our second Sand setter with Gigalith, and All-Ice now works as basically Alolatales at home, and Blightbent could make interesting use of Toxic Chain.

:drapion:
+20 Atk, +5 Def and SpDef.
Now it works better as a bulky wallbreaker, as with 90 base Atk it couldnt deal as much damage as it would want to with masks like Hydroscythe and Dragonblade, and while its defenses are decent, specially its physical defense, we thought they may be a bit iffy so a slight bulk buff fits it nicely.

:tsareena:
+25 Spd, type-changing move becomes Petal Blizzard.
With more speed it can perform its role of an offensive spinner better, which was done better by mons like Exca and Toedscruel, and now has Petal Blizzard over Seed Bomb as its type changing move, since Seed Bomb didnt deal as much damage as it would want to.

And thats its for the buffs and nerfs! We will now be preparing our Speed Tiers, Set Compendium, Sample Teams and Viability Rankings, yall can help us with this by giving your opinion on the meta on our discord server and sharing your teams for the sample teams!

Hello everyone!
We would like to announce that all of the resources for this Pet Mod are complete! Role Compendium, Set Compendium, Speed Tiers, Sample Teams (of which yall can still submit), and Viability Rankings are all up around the original post! And yall can discuss these resources here or in the discord server!
And also, here's a quick nerf and buff!

Nerf:
:solgaleo:
-20 HP, -5 Atk, Def and SpDef.

While still being heavily nerfed, Solgaleo is still an extremely strong threat on the metagame due to it having a big attack stat, strong defensive stats, good speed, and good movepool all at once, this all causes it to become a potentially broken wallbreaker and cleaner with its Choice Scarf set, we decided to slightly nerf its Atk, but deal a heavy blow to its defenses, which only contributed to its brokeness, and not in any meaningful way to its role.

Buff:
:whimsicott:
+30 HP, +10 Def, SpDef, +Morning Sun.
Change Whimsicott-Scarespore's tera ability to Sheer Force, change Whimsicott-Windspore's normal ability to Competitive.

While making the Viability Rankings, we noticed that with the Drapion buff, by end a buff to Drapion-Wispaxe, we indirectly nerfed Whimsicott as we made Drapion-Wispaxe mostly outclass it on its Prankster disruptor role, and all of Whimsicott's masks were horrible, as they didnt have the bulk, nor attack, nor abilities to work up their role to the fullest, making it the worst Pokemon in the metagame. So now with this buff, it becomes noticably bulkier, helping it way more on its pivoting and cleric roles, and also gets a way to directly heal itself with Morning Sun, and also gave abilities that benefit the roles of the masks way more than their past abilities to them!

And thats it for now, but be prepared because we have something cooking up for very soon!

some thoughts after the tournament, ggs to cyclonez_
  • why is base corv in this mod, its far stronger than most other mons and like 80% of the metagame is stonewalled by it
  • masks kind of low-key suck in general, which further exacerbates shit like base corv being so, so good
  • On the topic of masks, they could really stand to do more than they do now. A 1.2x buff to attacks (like in the real game) or something similar would make them feel more fun/flashy and less like necessary evils to have access to the new mons in the mod.
  • Why are half of the terastal ability straight downgrades? I feel like theres little to no incentive to tera for many mask holders
  • This all combines to make masks not feel worth the item slot, ESPECIALLY on hazard weak masks. Hazards being so strong further boosts corv's dominance
  • A lot of mons in the mod just suck. Feels like most mons are NU level mons with access to funky sidegrades that don't actually make them much more usable. Building cores was sort of a pain when so many of the mons are so mediocre.
  • Let's look at a design from this mod that I really like but I also think is emblematic of the issues in play:
    • :ss/guzzlord:
      Guzzlord-Miasma @ Miasma Mask
      Ability: Fur Coat
      EVs: 252 Atk / 196 Def / 60 Spe
      Adamant Nature
      - Crunch / Knock Off / Dragon Tail
      - Ultra Gulp
      - Earthquake
      - Toxic
    • This has a cool design- Fur coat and a poison typing means Guzzlord is a competent physical sponge, and the signature move further supports that. Tera giving you regenerator is also super cool in concept, because its both a huge boost and a tradeoff. Feels strategic
    • HOWEVER, the mechanics of this mod make it kind of a pain to use. The signature has anemic damage, so you will be forced to tera to keep Guzz around. If you do tera, though, you aren't really bulky at all anymore. So it feels like a lose-lose scenario in battles. Guzz' mask move sucking isnt unique to guzzlord, most of them feel pretty bad imo. Porygon is locked into tera blast, tons of mons get surf, etc.
    • Another feel bad is that Guzz doesnt really have a good dark stab now. Knock Off blows in this mod.
  • I think most mask mons could use major buffs. Especially when the masks overwrite abilities that made the mon vaguely usable in the first place (like gigalith). When the masks are changing already great abilities, they gotta be worth it. Gigalith could be buffed with the following changes, for example-
    • +Shore Up (gigalith is an NU mon, it can handle getting recovery especially when only the mono rock variant has good SpD)
    • At least +40 BP on Earthmover. No reason for its only STAB in its mask type to be hitting for 4% every time
    • Maybe some bulk boost on account of the fact that its really not all that bulky without Sand Stream. Gigalith Masks could provide 1.2x boost to a specific defense, perhaps?
Overall the mod reminds me of how early gen 7 mods were designed. There's fun to be had in navigating a meta full of mostly shitmons, but it's no substitute for a genuinely varied meta. I think significant balance changes, perhaps even a full blown mechanical overhaul to masks, are in order. Thanks for listening to my TED talk

Eliminated some letters from some mons names to line them up a bit better, if there is anything wrong with the stats just tell me on the discord! A clearer version can be found on the last post made on the Masquerade Kickoff Tournament thread.

And we got a third broken sweeper yay

We have had Sinistcha since Slate 8, and we have had a roomtour before the tournament where Sinistcha could be used, it only was used due to the Scalding Mask though, which let it enable Solgaleo-Sunflower. But due to recent developments on the metagame it was found that all Sinistcha masks could work as terrifying sweepers, with Calm Mind as a boosting move, that also raised its SpDef, Strength Sap, which let it heal an enormous amount of HP while lowering the Atk of the opponent too, and an amazing STAB move in Matcha Gotcha, which could burn, crippling physical attackers even more, and healing it too, letting be able to tank all sorts of physical and special attacks thrown its way, dealing enormous damage back and healing in the process, not only that but its last moveslot is basically free for anything, most of the time it ran Shadow Ball there, but it could adapt to any future developments to try to counter it by slotting a coverage move or something to stop that Pokemon, NP sets were also seen in the tournament but i dont think they are as strong as CM sets, but i can see why were they used, as a way to gain SpAtk boosts more immediately than with CM.

Magic Guard mons were extremely strong on the tournament, and were on about every team, as seen with Starmie-UFO at the top of the usage rankings, and Tatsugiri-Tempura near there too. These fit on about every team, as they both have valuable hazard removal, great types, and again, Magic Guard, which in a metagame where residual damage is so strong, between hazards and status effects, these Pokemon thrive as glues for teams.

Some Pokemon i really expected to get more usage were Whimsicott and Wigglytuff, after Whimsicott's buffs, both seem strong as a cleric and wallbreaker respectively, but they both got little usage, also, congratulations to Swampert and Swampert-Lakelurker for getting no usage on any of the tournaments in the history of this Pet Mod! And Druddigon went from one of the strongest sweepers in the metagame, with Skill Link Scale Shot, to being outclassed by a Pokemon introduced before it without needing buffs lol.

Some mons i didnt expect to have as high of an usage as they got were Lokix, which surprisingly was the second most used Pokemon on the tournament, and while i think its a very strong offensive mon, with Tinted Lens FImp always being a reliable option to throw at any sweepers that could rise on the tournament, it also gives basically zero defensive utility, and Flygon-Cicadasong, which seems like one of the more interesting sweepers in the format, and the fact it didnt get noticed by anyone, including the first roomtour, when Druddigon-Sharpshot was doing its same role but worse, is funny to me.

Anyways to the buffs and nerfs!

Buffs:

:druddigon: +10 HP +20 Spd +Icicle Spear, Bone Rush, Ice Spinner, Icicle Crash.

Since the second roomtour, Druddigon has been steadily falling off out of usage, with the nail in the coffin being Flygon-Cicadasong completely outclassing Druddigon-Sharpshot. Now Druddigon-Sharpshot gets new amazing coverage in Icicle Spear and Bone Rush for unresisted coverage, while Ice Spinner/Icicle Crash help Rubyhead get the same unresisted coverage due to it also having Eq. Stat buffs let it be a bit bulkier than Cicadasong, while the speed buff is greatly appreciated due to the Scale Shot sweeper role Sharpshot has, while not outspeeding Cicadasong, still letting it have a niche of its own as a Scale Shot sweeper too.

:swampert: +Splash Bite, Pain Split +10 HP.

Swampert with recovery, even if not completely reliable, this will probably give it some usage as a bulky water over mons like Kingdra-Foamflow, Jellicent and Ogerpon-Wellspring.

Nerfs:

:sinistcha: -Calm Mind, Nasty Plot. Sap Sipper on Sinistcha-Pure is changed to Water Veil, the Tera Ability of Sinistcha-Noxious is changed to Liquid Ooze.

It cant set up now yay. Was still viable before Sinistcha as a sweeper was discovered, as a wall, bulky wallbreaker and sun setter role, Sap Sipper gave Sinistcha-Pure too strong of a defensive profile, and Noxious Liquid on Sinistcha-Noxious as a Tera Ability made Matcha Gotcha too spammable of a STAB move, that gets the 1.5 Tera boost and heals too.

And now for a special announcement, we are reviving Masquerade! earl's post gave me an idea, specifically this part:

  • On the topic of masks, they could really stand to do more than they do now. A 1.2x buff to attacks (like in the real game) or something similar would make them feel more fun/flashy and less like necessary evils to have access to the new mons in the mod.

And after discussing it with Yoshiblaze, we will make new slates where y'all will be able to submit new effects for masks! We are still figuring out how could the formatting be for subs, if we should use a different way for voting, if we should edit the original post, etc, but we are sharing this now because we wanna know the opinion of y'all on this! Any suggestions, questions, feedback, should we not do this, why, etc!

Hi yall! Sorry for the near month-long hiatus, was too occupied w other stuff, and didnt feel too motivated to continue, but i managed to find the motivation to finish the mod, and we now have figured out how are we gonna do the mask slates!

:sv/ogerpon-hearthflame: :sv/ogerpon: :sv/ogerpon-cornerstone:
Slate 11: Mask Slates!
:sv/ogerpon-wellspring:

For mask slates, yall will be able to submit three mask effects, these mask effects can be about anything, between simple stat buffs, clones of abilities, or more complicated stuff like reducing the defense of a target each hit, changing the opponents type after doing x thing, etc.
On the next slates (Slate 12 and further), you will only be able to submit one high tier mask (S to A-), one mid tier mask (B+ to C+) and one low tier mask (C to Untiered), but this slate will be a Free Slate, as to test if this new system works fine, and because we currently do not have a Mask Viability Ranking made.

Voting will work the same way as last slates worked, you can vote for five submissions, including one self-vote, these will all count as one vote no matter the placement, and there will be four winners.

Mask Effect: if using a healing move other than recover and clones (including synthesis), deals the dmg it would've heal, giga drain is now functionally better energy ball because it does the same amount of dmg as a 112.5 bp atk, while leech seed do more chip, it do mean that neither can be recovery options no more, strenght sap is funny also i think

:corviknight:
Mask User: Corviknight
Mask Name: Jet Mask
Mask Effect: Once per battle, before being hit by a physical attack, raises its Def by 1 stage.
Competitive Description: Gives it a role over both no mask and Burrowing Corviknight as a better IronPress user, can be used to emergency force out a phys wallbreaker early game, but it can be baited too by stuff like using U-Turn or Flip Turn into a special attacker, forcing Corvi-Jet out and nullyfing any effect this ability couldve done on the battle.

:kingambit:
Mask User: Kingambit
Mask Name: Kusari Mask
Mask Effect: Once per battle, the first damaging move Kingambit uses is a guaranteed critical hit, Kingambit cannot get any more critical hits afterwards.
Competitive Description: Sniper-boosted Kowtow Cleave, Sucker Punch or Iron Head can deal insane damage, that can be perfect for opening holes on an opponent's team early game or ko'ing a sweeper with Sucker Punch, this becomes more useful as the game goes on as it has more of a chance of picking up a KO against certain, chipped down opponents, but that also means in that time you cannot send it out to attack freely, giving a sort of risk-reward dynamic to it where you have to choose if to send it in early and using your crit attack, which could be healed off on the battle, or intercepted by a full-health resist, or send it in late where it can pick up a KO, but for that time you must only play with basically 5 mons.

:porygon2:
Mask User: Porygon2
Mask Name: Zenithbug Mask
Mask Effect: Conversion now has added Protect-like effects (Protects the user from most attacks, starts to miss if used repeatedly)
Competitive Description: Now it can get the System Override omniboost with no problems at all aside from needing to tera, can work too as a defensive option against opponents outside of tera, as its a safe way to change your type to one that isnt weak to whatever the user is weak to.

Vetoes!

:sinistcha:
An entire free, unpunishable turn is broken, as Sinistcha could be able to basically do free progress without fear of an attack crippling it or ko'ing it. An idea we had to nerf this would be to make it so that the first turn its on the field it takes 50% less damage.

By the way, if the effect is actually that only on its first switch-in of the battle, it inmune to attacks while switching in, not the entire turn, then it is probably balanced, and would probably just need that to be made clearer on the description.

:arboliva:
This effect is broken, as, without needing to invest in any offenses, it can OHKO any physical attacker, and heavily chip walls, and special attackers with middling Atk stats, it may deal too much chip damage with Leech Seed too. Everything after the second comma should probably go on the competitive description by the way.

Y'all have 24hrs to fix your subs!

Voting will work the same way as it has worked since Slate 1, you can vote for up to 5 submissions, with one selfvote included, every vote counts as a singular point, and whatever 4 subs have the most amount of votes will win the slate!

Yall have 48hrs!
