Mandibuzz is one of the few Pokemon capable of checking Ghost-types like Dragapult, Aegislash, and Gengar thanks to its typing, great defensive stats, and access to reliable recovery in Roost. Additionally, Mandibuzz's utility extends beyond just checking Ghost-types, with a deep movepool consisting of other moves like Defog, U-turn, Taunt, and Knock Off. Foul Play is Mandibuzz's preferred STAB attack because it improves the matchups against Excadrill and Aegislash, although Knock Off is a good alternative on teams that don't require the additional insurance again them. U-turn is great for pivoting out of checks and bringing in the appropriate answers. Although Mandibuzz is commonly used as a Defogger, it can drop Defog on teams that include an alternative source of entry hazard removal. Taunt lets Mandibuzz shut down passive Pokemon like Toxapex, Seismitoad, Ferrothorn, and Corviknight, preventing them from setting or removing hazards, while Knock Off helps Mandibuzz punish switch-ins like Clefable, Rotom-H, and Kyurem. Toxic can also be considered to cripple Pokemon such as Kommo-o and Terrakion. 96 Speed EVs allow Mandibuzz to outspeed neutral-natured Aegislash.
Mandibuzz can fit on a variety of builds thanks to the immense utility it brings to the table. Wallbreakers like Conkeldurr, Dragapult, and Kyurem appreciate being safely brought in with Mandibuzz's U-turn, giving them more opportunities to wallbreak. Kyurem also benefits from Mandibuzz's Defog support, and they all appreciate Mandibuzz checking Ghost-types. If you drop Defog on Mandibuzz for another utility move, entry hazard removers like Corviknight, Rotom-H, and Excadrill are ideal partners that can also deal with Fairy-types. Fairy-types like Clefable and Sylveon are excellent partners as well, checking Kyurem as well as other Pokemon like Conkeldurr and Nasty Plot Hydreigon that give Mandibuzz massive issues.
