[Overview]

This Lucario set draws upon both its base 110 Attack and its base 115 Special Attacks to act as an effective mixed attacker. This set is best used as a wall breaker and not a sweeper. With a strong Physical STAB move in Close Combat this set is able to handle Special Walls that its Choice Specs move set has difficulty with. And by using Special moves such as Shadow Ball it has an easier time with the large population of Defensive ghost Pokémon such as Rotom-A who in general do not run Specially Defensive sets.

[SET COMMENTS]

Lucario’s good Special and Physical Attack stats allow it to act as a very potent mixed attacker, who can deal with the issues its Swords Dance set has, along with the issues faced by the Choice Specs set. With the given EV’s and nature Lucario is able to OHKO or 2HKO many threats in the OU Metagame. Here are some damage calculations I’ve made to show how beneficial the mixed EV’s are:
· Close Combat v.s 24 HP / 252 Def Blissey: 116.3%-137.3%
· Close Combat v.s 160 HP / 120 Def Snorlax: 92.2%-108.8%
· Close Combat v.s 252 HP / 216 Def Porygon2: 82.4%-97.9%
· Shadow Ball v.s 252 HP / 0 SpD Rotom-A: 67.8%-80.3%
· Shadow Ball v.s 252 HP / 0 SpD Celebi: 54.5%-64.4%
· Shadow Ball v.s 252 HP / 0 SpD Dusknoir: 57.8%-68.0%
· Stone Edge v.s 248 HP / 220 Def Zapdos: 50.1%-59.5%
· HP Fire v.s 252 HP / 0 SpD Skarmory: 77.2%-91.0%
· HP Fire v.s 252 HP / 92 SpD Bronzong: 50.3%-59.2%
· HP Grass v.s 252 HP / 0 SpD Swampert: 103.2%-122.1%
· HP Grass v.s 252 HP / 68 SpD Hippowdon: 54.3%-64.3%
While these calculations may not seem as impressive as the calculations for the Swords Dance set this set requires no set up time, and can do a better job handling Physical Walls. Lucario’s wall breaking capabilities may seem overshadowed by those of Infernape’s, but something that is often ignored when comparing the two is that Lucario has higher Physical and Special Attack.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

First off this set benefits from Stealth Rock, but not to the point where it’s dependant on them like the Swords Dance Set.

This set can easily be turned into a mixed sweeper set by adding the move Agility to increase Lucario’s rather lack luster Speed.

Latias and Gyarados in particular makes for a very good teammate for this set as Lucario can open up the field from many Special and Physical Walls in OU, and they cover each other’s weaknesses very well. Pokémon who can spam paralysis via Thunder Wave and Roar such as Latias, Zapdos, and Raikou are all very useful for a team with Lucario. Gyarados is recommended because he can counter Gliscor, and he covers a lot of the weaknesses Lucario has. Lastly Baton Passers are welcomed in particular Togekiss, Gliscor, and Zapdos.
