Social LGBTQIA+

some of my favorite queer artists who may not be as 'iconic' but still really cool

  • hikaru utada (actual icon; pop genius w/ some of the most unhinged and beautiful production choices of all time. personal fave is dirty desire which is like the only song that can rival britney spears blackout era)
  • t.a.t.u (russian pop with a strange history... even so no other song captures the sense of longing the way all the things she said does)
  • yeule (genrebending, v interesting and specific aesthetically ; my fave song of theirs is noise pop/shoegazey dazies. will hit you like a mf if this is your type of thing)
  • laura les (half of the 100 gecs; hyperpop heroes w/ money machine and took a new rock-like approach w/ dumbest girl alive; great solo artist too (see: alice glass/crystal castles-like haunted)
  • jane remover (most important artist in the hyperpop-adjacent sphere right now. have admittedly never listened to her solo albums but i really fuck w/ her jersey club/vaporwave-inspired dariacore series, especially grave robbing)
  • sophie (RIP every time i think about her i start crying because she was supposed to change everything. see: faceshopping)
  • shygirl (UK hiphop w/ lots of catchy hooks, body & sex positive lyrics)
  • zebra katz (hiphop-adjacent but very sonically diverse. see lick it n split ft shygirl for some raunchy russian bass bop)

some of my other favorite queer songs by artists of various identities
underworld - born slippy (nuxx) .. she was a beautiful boy...
susumu hirasawa - siren [album] was strongly inspired by his trips to Thailand & interactions with the Kathoey population
yves tumor - noid
deftones - digital bath (for me, at least)
the smiths - there is a light that never goes out (for as much a prick morrissey is one of the great writers of yearning)
azealia banks - 212
babylon zoo - spaceman

always down to talk queer anime & movies too

Some of my fav brazilian lgbt artists. Mostly modern:

Pabllo Vittar - Pabllo is a gay man, though the artist persona is a drag queen and thus should have she/her used. Icon of pop funk.
Gloria groove - another drag queen, she's got a bit of a mix of funk and pagode and r&b.
Jaloo - Nonbinary genderfluid (she/her only for her though). Indie/synth pop artist

Update: just made through a day of school. I’ve told some close friends but it’s hard to just tell it to them. It definitely feels better but calder still exists. Sometimes it feels like there are both Calder and cedar. But yeah, being called a she and painting my nails and growing my hair long and wearing a dress makes me feel happy so I’ll figure it out. But yeah anyways…
I know I said I would leave, and I will for the most part, but I just saw this, and I really wanted to share it.
To be clear, I am not sharing this to prove a point. I am sharing this because in these times of hardship, we need some good news. And you would be hard pressed to not call this good news.
my phone just doesn’t show videos or whatever it is. Literally just a blank space, unless that was the joke.

I know I double posted but I think they weren’t just spam

First and foremost, good on you for beginning to understand yourself better. I'm sure it wasn't easy, but the fact you're feeling good about it is a positive sign. It's okay to feel as if a different part of you still exists, you don't have to feel forced to be one way or another at times. Give yourself time and, most importantly, be true to yourself. Do what you feel is right for you, in whatever way that may be. It's different for everyone, as it's your own personal journey of discovery, but it sounds like you're doing well.

anyone have any queer book recommendations? i like low/intrusive fantasy and just real-world fiction. i really enjoyed the here's to us duology and the sunbearer trials duology if that helps (or if anyone else needs recommendations!)

it isn't the queerest duology in the world but Six of Crows is one of my fave novels of all time and two members of the ensemble cast are gay for each other- it's pretty heavily featured

Maybe Red white and royal blue? I haven't read it personally but my friend does and constantly talks about how they love the acknowledgement of queer figures that we're notable people but we're forgotten due to their association with the lgbtq+

A bit of a change of topic, but I just wanted to say that I hope everyone is hanging in there, both mentally and physically. The recent UK ruling on differentiating between transgender women and biological women is truly unfortunate and I'm sure some will be disheartened by it; however, I have faith that rulings such as that will be on the wrong side of history in time. Transgender women are women, just as transgender men are men. No ifs, ands, or buts. Stay strong and keep on fighting the good fight, hate will never win.

Us Canadian queers are gonna do what we can - and I'd love to promise you guys that we'll succeed, but the American election demoralized so many of us and invigorated the people who want our rights gone.
Liberals won! And ironically, Donald Trump is probably the biggest reason for that despite him wanting the Conservatives to win. So... thanks, Trump! You finally managed to do one good thing with your life (even it was by accident) xoxo
