1. INTRODUCTION
Hello everyone! It’s Pinkacross, and I’ve finally got another team. I’m actually still laddering with this team, currently sitting at 2030 ELO and waiting until the ladder is more active. That being said, I wanted to get this RMT out as soon as possible since this metagame is rapidly changing, and I want you to be able to enjoy this incredibly fun HO. I have complete confidence that this team is up to my usual standards, and certainly could and would peak #1 on the ladder given more time. Perhaps it will be tomorrow, I’m only a couple dozen points away! Before DLC-2 was released officially, I was doing some practice games and SDK03 absolutely destroyed me using a Tera Poison Double Dance Latias-- I had no answer at all, and I knew I’d want to make an HO using it once DLC-2 came out on Showdown. Once I created the team and tested some different versions, I knew I’d hit gold. This is by far the most consistent HO team I’ve ever used this generation, and I hope you all enjoy it as much as I did. I proudly present Psychic Retribution!
2. PROOF OF PEAK
I achieved this peak laddering alone, starting in the low 1800s. I am still climbing as of the time when this RMT was posted. I have two images here, one to show the #1 peak and one to show the highest ELO reached. These peaks were achieved in the same ladder run over about a week.
3. LIVE BATTLES
Watch me use this team and explain my thought process while playing at 2000+ ELO!
4. TEAM + DESCRIPTION
Deoxys-Speed @ Light Clay
Ability: Pressure
Tera Type: Dark / Steel
EVs: 248 HP / 8 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Taunt
- Light Screen
- Reflect
- Psycho Boost
Role: Screen Setter. Can stop sweepers by entering and using Taunt.
Item: Light Clay is essential for making Light Screen and Reflect last 8 turns instead of 5.
Tera Type: Tera Dark can be used to avoid super-effective moves like Knock Off and Dark Pulse while also gaining immunity to Grimmsnarl’s Prankster Taunt.
Moves: Taunt is great for blocking hazards and opposing Screens. Light Screen and Reflect give a 2x Defense and Special Defense boost for the rest of the team, allowing for setting up and sweeping. Psycho Boost helps Deoxys not be too passive, giving it the ability to deal major damage to Great Tusk, Glimmora, Ribombee, and other popular leads.
EVs & Nature: Maximum Speed investment is important for opposing Deoxys-Speed Speed ties. The rest is in HP for maximum bulk.
Other Options: You can run a different Tera Type, such as Steel or Ghost. You’ll almost never use Tera on Deoxys so it’s not a big deal.
Latias @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
Tera Type: Poison / Steel
EVs: 248 HP / 244 Def / 16 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Calm Mind
- Agility
- Stored Power
- Aura Sphere
Role: Sweeper. The looming threat of Latias can force your opponent into difficult positions, even if it doesn’t outright win very often.
Item: Leftovers gives Latias some longevity as it sets up.
Tera Type: Tera Poison allows Latias to avoid Toxic, and gain an exceptional defensive typing with Levitate.
Moves: Calm Mind and Agility allow Latias to boost stats and reach threatening Speed and Power. Stored Power reaches incredible power, a maximum of 380 base power if fully set up. Aura Sphere is used to hit Dark types that are immune to Stored Power, notably Kingambit.
EVs & Nature: 16 Speed EVs with a Timid Nature outspeeds Iron Boulder with a Protosynthesis Speed boost. The rest is in HP and Defense to maximize turns to use Calm Mind and Agility.
Other Options: Tera Steel can be used over Tera Poison. You can run 72 Speed EVs instead of 16 to hit 301 Speed, which will outspeed Great Tusk without an Agility.
Enamorus @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Contrary
Tera Type: Stellar
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Moonblast
- Earth Power
- Healing Wish
- Tera Blast
Role: Speed control and possible sweeper. Healing Wish can also be used to restore a weakened team member.
Item: Choice Scarf turns Enamorus into a fearsome sweeper when combined with Contrary and Stellar Type Tera Blast. It also helps give the team some immediate Speed and power.
Tera Type: Tera Stellar is a strong new Type that gives Enamorus a non-STAB 120 base power attack on the first use, and a 100 base power attack on the following uses. Thanks to Contrary, Tera Blast Stellar will boost Enamorus’ Special Attack and Attack each use, which can easily snowball. It also provides a 1-time 1.2x boost to Earth Power and 1-time 1.33x boost to Moonblast.
Moves: Moonblast is a strong, spammable STAB move. Earth Power hits the Poison and Steel types that typically switch in on Moonblast. Healing Wish can restore a team member to health, allowing for another chance to sweep. Tera Blast with the Stellar type can lead to a sweep if the opponent does not play with extreme caution.
EVs & Nature: Maximum Speed and Special Attack make Enamorus as offensively threatening as possible. Modest Nature is used to enhance Enamorus’ sweeping capabilities since the Speed tier hit by Timid is unimportant to a Choice Scarf Enamorus.
Other Options: I highly advise against changing anything on this set.
Gouging Fire @ Booster Energy
Ability: Protosynthesis
Tera Type: Steel / Grass / Fairy
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant / Jolly Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Outrage
- Flare Blitz
- Morning Sun
Role: Sweeper. Due to the absolutely massive Defense and HP stats of Gouging Fire, it can also act as a sweeper-stopper and wall in certain situations.
Item: Booster Energy gives a generous 1.3x Attack boost, turning Gouging Fire into a more threatening sweeper.
Tera Type: Tera Steel allows Gouging Fire to avoid Toxic, a weakness to Dragon attacks, and gain a resistance to Extreme Speed while maintaining a resistance to Grassy Glide.
Moves: Dragon Dance is the best boosting move available to Gouging Fire. Outrage and Flare Blitz provide extremely powerful STAB options for Gouging Fire to use. I prefer Outrage over Dragon Claw since it hits much harder and can overwhelm unsuspecting bulky waters such as Toxapex and even Dondozo.
EVs & Nature: Maximum Speed and Attack investment maximizes Gouging Fire’s threat as a sweeper. Adamant Nature makes Gouging Fire as strong as possible.
Other Options: Tera Grass or Fairy can be used over Steel. You can also run Jolly Nature, but I would advise against it.
Hatterene @ Leftovers
Ability: Magic Bounce
Tera Type: Dark / Steel / Water
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Bold Nature
- Nuzzle
- Calm Mind
- Draining Kiss
- Stored Power / Psyshock
Role: Sweeper, hazard control, and sweeper stopper with Nuzzle. Hatterene can also notably counterlead Deoxys-Speed.
Item: Leftovers gives Hatterene valuable longevity since it otherwise relies upon Draining Kiss to heal.
Tera Type: Tera Dark gives Hatterene the ability to beat Stored Power and Psyshock users in a Calm Mind war. Between Nuzzle and Tera Dark, you’ll never lose to another Stored Power pokemon.
Moves: Nuzzle is a fantastic move that inflicts paralysis, giving Hatterene the ability to gain extra setup turns and ruin potentially threatening sweepers. Calm Mind is an incredible boosting move that allows Hatterene to sweep teams and force switches. Draining Kiss is a weak but incredible move that allows Hatterene to heal while hitting Stored Power immune Dark types super-effectively. Lastly, Stored Power can gain monstrous power after just a few Calm Mind boosts, turning into an incredible tool against Stall.
EVs & Nature: Bold Nature with maximum Defense and HP make Hatterene the most threatening Calm Mind sweeper possible, especially alongside Screens.
Other Options: Tera Steel can be used to avoid Clodsire Poison Jab on Stall. Tera Water can be used to have a stronger Rain matchup. You can also run 216 Speed EVs to outspeed a paralyzed Gholdengo.
Kingambit @ Air Balloon
Ability: Supreme Overlord
Tera Type: Fire
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant / Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Kowtow Cleave
- Iron Head
- Sucker Punch
Role: Sweeper, Ghost resist, Roaring Moon and Volcarona backup answer, and Gholdengo switch-in.
Item: Air Balloon allows Kingambit to revenge kill Earthquake Roaring Moon without needing to use Tera. It is also helpful for setting up for free against Gliscor.
Tera Type: Tera Fire allows Kingambit to avoid Will-O-Wisp burns and act as a Volcarona answer.
Moves: Swords Dance is an amazing boosting move, mandatory on Kingambit. Kowtow Cleave and Iron Head provide strong STAB moves. Sucker Punch is an incredibly strong priority move that allows Kingambit to sweep.
EVs & Nature: Maximum Attack with an Adamant Nature gives Kingambit maximum power output. The maximum Speed investment ensures that Kingambit outspeeds most Corviknight, Skarmory, and outspeeds other Kingambit.
Other Options: You can run a different Tera type. You can run Low Kick over Iron Head. You can use Jolly instead of Adamant.
5. TEAM BUILDING PROCESS
I got smoked by this Double Dance Tera Poison Latias set by SDK04 when testing some DLC 2 teams before the release on Showdown, so I knew I’d want to build around it.
Like most Double Dance pokemon, Latias wanted lots of turns to set up, so I knew I’d need Light Screen and Reflect or Aurora Veil. I ultimately decided on Deoxys-Speed, since it seemed like the best option. It could Taunt Cinderace, which made it seem superior to Alolan Ninetales, and it had Psycho Boost which made it seem superior to Grimmsnarl.
I knew that Latias would be a slow boosting hit-or-miss pokemon, so I added Gouging Fire to give my team some immediate power, and a pokemon that could set up and be threatening with only 1 turn.
I thought Tera Stellar Choice Scarf Enamorus sounded broken with Screens support, giving it enough time to boost up with Tera Blast. Enamorus ended up not sweeping nearly as much as I anticipated, but the immediate Speed and Healing Wish support it provided were incredibly helpful.
Manaphy with Acid Armor and Take Heart seemed like an incredibly powerful addition to the team, being able to dismantle most teams with Screens support.
My team had no Ghost resistance or priority, so I immediately knew there was only one guy who was right for the job.
After testing the team, I consistently had issues facing hazards, Stealth Rock in particular, and losing Deoxys-Speed Speed ties made a game feel extremely difficult. Hatterene fixed these issues, and it was also much more consistent and less vulnerable to Encore than Manaphy.
6. TEAM USAGE TIPS
1. It is almost never a good idea to sack Deoxys-Speed, even if you lead with it. In my experience it can usually set up Light Screen and Reflect twice.
2. Don’t set up Light Screen and Reflect if you only really need one. I frequently use just one or the other, and then switch out.
3. Try to preserve Tera even more so than usual. The threat of Contrary Enamorus Stellar Tera Blast looming in the back forces your opponent to keep their team from getting too heavily chipped-- this is a major tool, and using your Tera gives that tool away.
4. Be aware of the sheer threat that the other team members pose, especially Latias and Enamorus. It’s OK to lose a pokemon or two if that opens up another team member for the win.
5. If you have a lot of pokemon that could potentially win against your opponent, don’t try to preserve them all or you’ll probably lose. Accept that you’re going to have to give up some potential sweeps to create a better opportunity to win.
6. Be very careful with your opponent’s sweepers. Your opponent will try to time their setup with your Light Screen or Reflect running out. Be aware of this.
7. Wait as long as possible to Tera Latias when going for a sweep. This can give you extra turns to set up.
8. I’ve found that Gouging Fire is often a great pokemon for early or middle-game, since it can break up your opponent’s team and soften it up for the other sweepers. It certainly CAN be a late-game sweeper, but I’ve had very few games where that was the correct option.
9. Remember that Enamorus maintains the same defensive typing even after using Tera Stellar-- you will still resist Kingambit Sucker Punch and Rillaboom Grassy Glide.

7. THREAT LIST
Not too big of a threat, but you really have to be careful with this guy. Everything faster dies to Sucker Punch pretty easily, and Enamorus has very poor physical defense so it can’t take a +2 Sucker Punch well at all. The main tools you have are just maintaining offensive pressure (Kingambit struggles to set up against anything other than Deoxys-Speed), and Gouging Fire. Gouging Fire is so incredibly physically bulky that it can take Sucker Punch like a champ, especially behind a Reflect. If you’re struggling with Kingambit, making Gouging Fire Tera Fairy or making Kingambit Jolly Low Kick can help.
If you predict Gouging Fire will use Dragon Dance and you can’t deal major damage to it, I’d advise going hard into Deoxys-Speed and using Reflect. Mostly you want to deny setup, but if Gouging Fire does set up, Tera Fire Kingambit can revenge kill, Hatterene can Nuzzle, and Enamorus can pick off paralyzed Gouging Fire. Your own Gouging Fire can also Tera out of the Dragon weakness and Outrage as a last resort.
Stall isn’t a major issue, but it can be difficult at times. Tera Dark on these guys can seriously threaten your Stored Power users. I would say the best way to win in this situation is actually to stall out the Recovers. PP stalling is also an option. Be careful NOT to use Nuzzle on Clodsire with Hatterene if you plan on going the PP stall route-- this will allow Clodsire to preserve its PP. Both of these guys will be Tera Dark most of the time-- I’ve had to use up my Nuzzle PP with Hatterene chipping down Blissey and Clodsire. It’s a slow process, but it works. If you’re struggling with the stall matchup, Tera Steel Hatterene can help, since the only way a stall team can really beat this team is using Poison Jab Clodsire.
