Lanturn [QC 3/3] [GP 2/2]

Have you tested a Choice Specs set? I remember that Thund91 had quite a ball using it last gen, and it was actually pretty good, in a sense. It has Volt Absorb to occasionally heal off residue damage, so it could stay reasonably healthy, and dual STAB Hydro Pump and Thunderbolt is just awesome. Something like:

name: Choice Specs
move 1: Thunderbolt
move 2: Hydro Pump / Surf
move 3: Ice Beam
move 4: Hidden Power Grass / Volt Switch
item: Choice Specs
ability: Volt Absorb
nature: Modest
evs: 140 HP / 252 SpA / 116 Spe

Speed EVs to outspeed minimum Speed Milotic (I think). You could probably give it a try and see what happens, I suppose.

No, not nearly strong enough to pull good stuff out. I mean, if Rotom has troubles Specs KO-ing Pokemon, then Lanturn would have much more. Remember, the new UU metagame has changed drastically from last gen's, becoming faster and more physical.

The Rain Dance set should be added. Its a good pivot Pokemon for Rain Dance teams
and gen V gave it Volt Switch, so it can set up rain and safely bring in a Rain Dance sweeper. It can also wall the majority of electric type Pokemon when the rain is down and re-activate it and as an offensive Pokemon it isn't too shabby.

name: Rain Dance
move 1: Rain Dance
move 2: Hydro Pump / Surf
move 3: Heal Bell / Ice Beam
move 4: Volt Switch
item: Damp Rock
ability: Volt Absorb
nature: Modest
evs: 40 HP / 252 SpA / 216 SpD

Would a set that has both Scald and Discharge be plausible for statusing opponents? Paralysis will cripple both special and physical sweepers alike, while burn will soften any physical blow from Pokemon that do not have Guts.

@PKG: Rain Dance is already explained heavily in OO, do you think it deserves a standalone set?

@ladygaga: its 30% probability for both, burn is better as it aids in complementing lanturns meh defense.

Specs set is meh. Can switch into Blastoise but isn't very threatening. Useful vs Hail but still OO material unless someone else disagrees.

When you're including "weird" EVs in an analysis, you should always explain what they're for in the additional comments section. In this case I know what the EVs are for because I'm the one who came up with them in Gen 4 - they allow Lanturn to survive an Impish Donphan's Earthquake, Swellow's boosted Facade and +2 Return from Feraligatr while being able to tank two HP Grass from Moltres. I'm not sure how relevant these metrics are to the current metagame, so it might actually be a good idea to revise the EVs (coming up with a spread based on survivability against Abomasnow and Arcanine's Close Combat might be a good idea). Even if you decide not to, please include the reasoning for the EVs in the set :)

Edit: Speaking of Abomasnow, might be a neat idea to mention HP Fire in AC for Lanturns that are used to specifically counter hail.

Mmm yea I was not paying attention to the EVs since I used different ones while testing certain sets....especially with the restalk variant I EV'd it to survive Flare Blitz + CC from Arcanine with SR.

And HP Fire is a good idea to mention as well.

How can Ferroseed wall the SubCharge set? When behind a Sub, it can't touch you while you set-up untill +6. The only option that i could wall you is when it carries Bullet Seed, which noody does (exept for me :P, already paid off).

a few things of note:
 • it's not Grass types but Grass-types
 • be sure to keep your pronoun use consistent. your overview / checks and counters section used 'he / his' while everywhere else used 'it', so i went with that. either's okay, just, yeah, pick one

lastly, i'm not sure if this is a gp matter so feel free to ignore if someone higher up says otherwise, but be careful not to exaggerate too much / oversell your poke - eg "In the late-game, Subcharge will utterly destroy all teams."

[Overview]
<paragraph space>

At first sight, Lanturn is seems no more than just an average, one of those easily dismissable Pokemon optional - nothing wrong with what you've got, just fluffing it out a bit. When browsing based on stats alone, Lanturn's base 125 base HP is the only thing that stands out among the crowd its only outstanding point / aspect preferential, up to you; - his its defensive stats are so lacking that even Gardevoir has better otherwise worse than even Gardevoir's. However, Lanturn's trump card is his its excellent typing, and when combined with his its amazing movepool, Lanturn becomes has the potential to become or "can become" your number one specially based ? it's not too clear if you meant pokemon physical-special or "special" simply in the english sense utility Pokemon. It shares its Water / Electric typing is rivaled by with only one other fully evolved yeah kinda nitpicking, so optional change again i guess Pokemon in the entire game, Rotom-W, who is safely away from out of reach in the battlegrounds perhaps something like "upper echelons" of OU. That means that Lanturn has total priority be careful, 'priority' means something totally different in pokemon This gives Lanturn unique access to two of the best you can't declare them to be THE best special STABs available, key resistances to Steel, Ice, Flying, Fire, and more, and an astonishing mere 2 weaknesses (Ground and Grass, which is slightly offputting due to moves such as Earthquake and Giga Drain), albeit to fairly common attacking types, Ground and Grass. Another key to his its valuable niche in UU is his its ability, Volt Absorb, that which enables it to laughs at the futile attempts of Jolteon and Galvantula to make short work of your team. Combined with moves that make it an excellent team player, such as Thunderbolt, Scald, Thunder Wave, Heal Bell, Ice Beam, and Volt Switch, and more, Lanturn becomes an amazing asset to have on your side.

um, i'm pretty sure this doesn't go here o.o

The EV spreads given throughout the in the following sets are mainly allow Lanturn to survive certain threatening moves that would otherwise threaten Lanturn. The 40HP/192Def/176SpD spread gives Lanturn enough bulk to withstand, such as Defensephan's don't make up set names, haha defensive / uninvested Donphan's EQ Earthquake, 2-3 and several / at least 2 of Adamant LO Arcanine's CC Close Combat. , On the special side, A couple of HP Grasses it is not 2HKOed by Hidden Power Grass from almost any special attacker, and even surviving survives Modest Shaymin Seed Flares and CM +1 / Calm Mind-boosted Giga Drains. Without such heavy (100EV+) investment in its defensive stats, Lanturn wavers at even the weakest super effective moves; however, with the given spreads, Lanturn can safely absorb sponge any most moves that threatens it and return damage for damage retaliate with an attack of its own.

[Set SET]
name: Special Tank

move 2: Ice Beam
move 3: Thunderbolt
move 4: Heal Bell / Thunder<space>Wave

[SET COMMENTS]

When looking for a special attacker that can fit into any team and offer support in any situation, look no further than Lanturn's Special Tank set. This set has unbelievable coverage with Scald, Ice Beam, and Thunderbolt, that can enabling it to easily dispatch the trickiest enemies. Lanturn's coverage moves allows it to OHKO all several you're kinda overselling it imo :/ but since i'm not that experienced with uu you have the final say common UU Pokemon with a super- (remove hyphen, insert space)effective STAB move after Stealth Rock damage, such as Azumarill, Arcanine, and Steelix, and more. Meanwhile, Lanturn's huge HP great bulk—thanks to its huge HP stat—allows it to tank and absorb some of the strongest moves and remain strong in good health / healthy or even "live to tell the tale". Support options such as Thunder Wave to cripple sweepers and Heal Bell to get rid of pesky burns and poisons complement the mixed spread well, Thunder Wave, an excellent support option, lets Lanturn cripple sweepers, while Heal Bell enables it to cure itself or its teammates of pesky status, complementing the mixed defensive spread well and allowing Lanturn to act decisively in any situation.

[Additional Comments ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Surf can be used instead of Scald, but Scald's the latter's preferential, leave as-is if you wish 30% burn chance is very admirable, crippling may come in handy to cripple some of the most deadliest physical sweepers. If using Thunder Wave, however, Surf would be more advisable to avoid status conflicts. Discharge can be used instead of Thunderbolt, but the damage drop is very noticeable, and Thunder Wave is a more reliable means for of spreading paralysis.

Without Stealth Rocks, almost all of Lanturn's OHKO's OHKOs become measly 2HKOs, defeating the purpose of using Lanturn in the first place. In addition, Lanturn will be crippled by many Pokemon that move faster and can hit it with a powerful Earthquake before Lanturn can even blink. In that sense Hence, Flying-types and Levitaters isn't a 'coined' term Pokemon with the Levitate ability work excellently with Lanturn, giving Lanturn a safe switch out to as their Ground-type immunity grants them a free switch. Notable Pokemon to mention are Claydol, who can set up Stealth Rocks and absorb Earthquake, and Lanturn ZAPDOS, who with Hidden Power Grass can easily dispatch the annoying Quagsire that walls Lanturn and can complements Lanturn's weaknesses well. In exchange, Lanturn is a sponge for resists preferential almost all of Zapdos's weaknesses, creating great synergy.

[Set SET]
name: SubCharge
move 1: Substitute
move 2: Charge Beam
move 3: Surf
move 4: Ice Beam
item: Leftovers
ability: Volt Absorb
nature: Modest
evs: 52 HP / 252 SpA / 200 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]

SubCharge is an infamous set that makes a return from Generation IV DPP UU, although but thanks to power creep, it now needs some more careful playing to achieve success. In the late- (remove hyphen, insert space)game, SubCharge will has the potential to utterly destroy all unprepared, weakened teams don't oversell!!. The strategy is to switch in on a staller weak or Electric-type attack or a support move, set up a Substitute, and then start Charge Beaming for a +6 Special Attack boost. After a few boosts, the combination of Surf and Ice Beam will make short work of most of the enemy.

[Additional Comments ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

52 HP Evs EVs allow Lanturn to creates 101 HP Substitutes that can wall will not be broken by Seismic Toss. However, this set can still be outmaneuvered and outwalled or simply "countered" if the opponent manages to set<space>up a sweeper such as Gallade or Escavalier. Therefore, careful play is the key to getting a safe +4 off of Charge Beams safely racking up many boosts and making a comeback.

Alternatives to the moveset include Hydro Pump, trading accuracy for massive power massive damage for shaky accuracy. Entry hazards support would be is greatly appreciated, especially Toxic Spikes, since that will this discourages sweepers to come in on Lanturn and setup slow boosting sweepers from using Lanturn as setup bait / setting up alongside Lanturn. Great partners include Ferroseed, Donphan, and Roserade. An honorable mention in as a teammate for this set is goes out to another late-game menace, Flygon: preferential Flygon can intercept an Earthquake aimed at Lanturn and proceed to counter-sweep from a totally different direction with physical attacks instead, very easily taking out the main threats to this set, Quagsire and Magneton, very easily.

[Set SET]
name: RestTalk
move 1: Rest
move 2: Sleep<space>Talk
move 3: Scald
move 4: Thunderbolt
item: Leftovers
ability: Volt Absorb
nature: Calm
evs: 40 HP / 192 Def / 100 SpA / 176 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]

In the overview, Lanturn's funky defenses showed to be proved able to withstand some of the hardest-hitting and most surprising moves in the game. Now, with RestTalk, Lanturn can absorb statuses and damage and heal it all in one turn. While asleep, Lanturn can proceed to use Sleep Talk and to dish out decent damage. Lanturn gets got / received a major boost this Generation in BW with Scald and, gaining a 30% chance to mess up the best physical sweepers in UU. While other RestTalkers seem to have it better than Lanturn (such as Suicune and Miltoic) Suicune and Milotic may seem to outclass it as a RestTalker, Lanturn's unique typing and ability allows it to stand strong in the face of virtually all special attackers, including Jolteon and Zapdos.

[Additional Comments ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Many pointers here are shared with the Special Tank set, including the need for hazards, (especially Toxic Spikes, ) and partners that can dispatch threats. Grass-types are especially annoying to Lanturn, so keeping using a Fire-type like such as Chandelure is a great idea.

name: Rain Dance
move 1: Rain Dance
move 2: Hydro Pump / Surf / Scald

[SET COMMENTS]

Possessing all the tools it needs to take charge of the weather and use it to its full advantage, Lanturn is arguably the best Rain Dancer user in all of UU (and even OU) irrelevant, Lanturn has all the tools it needs to take charge of the weather and use it to its full advantage. With excellent typing, a fantastic ability, optional and great bulk, absorbing Electric-type moves and providing its team with optional 8 turns of rain is a simple task for Lanturn to accomplish. Gen V BW granted Lanturn the amazing move Volt Switch, which, thanks to its slow speed, Lanturn can use (with its slow speed) to bring in a sweeper that will not be hurt by battle damage. If that's not all Furthermore, Rain Dance Lanturn's EV spread allows it to crank out a huge go on the offense with an immensely powerful rain-boosted Hydro Pump, ripping holes in the rain that the opponent never expected unexpectedly ripping huge holes in an opponent's team.

[Additional Comments ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Lanturn's huge movepool allows it to lean towards either offense or defense as it tries to complement its teammates the best gives it a choice between an offensive role or a defensive one, allowing it to complement its teammates fantastically. Offensively, STAB Hydro Pump and 100% Acc accuracy STAB Thunder allows it to quickly repel threats that switch in, hoping to get possibly gaining it free turns to set<space>up. Lanturn can use moves from 80 power Scald to 120 power Hydro Pump, depending on what fits your team Alternatively, Scald and Discharge trade power for excellent secondary effects, while Surf offers a solid compromise; pick the option that best fits your team. Support-wise, Lanturn has Heal Bell, Thunder Wave, Confuse Ray, and Volt Switch, that all of which can help your teammates thrive and set them up for sweeps. Also, Ice Beam has provides great coverage as well, and Blizzard can be used if Hail becomes too rampant.

Lanturn works amazingly with Dragon Dance Swift Swim Kingdra, the one-trick pony that makes debuts in Ubers with it's Dragon Dance Swift Swim sweep possibly mention something about kingdra's unique awesome etc etc dual stab. Other notable Swift Swimmers Pokemon include Kabutops, Omastar, and Gorebyss.

[Other Options]

Lanturn can run a parafusion set with Water Pulse and Discharge / Thunder Wave, however, but this is less effective than before since switching is seen more commonly in a tier full of Choice items users , it may not be as viable as it was before. However, parafusion would complement the ParaFlinch Togekiss set very nicely, setting up a paralysis-spreading core to aid slower sweepers. Lanturn can also use RestTalk, but it's lack of a hard bulky core like Milotic prevents it from utilizing it effectively. you have a resttalk set!! RestTalk advantages over other users such as Milotic and Suicune include Electric typing, granting resists to Flying, a dual resist to Steel, and a great STAB type. Volt Absorb allows it to take on Jolteon and Galvantula, something the bulkiest Milotic would never dream of, and walls off Pokemon who rely on Electric type moves like Arcanine and Victini for coverage.

Lanturn also can also be used effectively in on Rain Dance teams as an all-out sweeper you already have a rd supporter set so i take it this is what you meant. With great synergy, STAB 100% Thunder and boosted Hydro Pump, Lanturn can switch in on opposing Thunders and reverse destroy their team, virtually on a switch. Lanturn's ability gives it great synergy with most other members of rain teams, likely allowing it many free switch-ins on Electric-type attacks. With a rain-boosted Hydro Pump and a 100% accuracy Thunder, it can easily take advantage of the rain to destroy the opposing team. Furthermore, Lanturn has Hydro Pump, Thunder, and Blizzard, allowing it to perfectly counter just about every weather out there. Against Blizzard teams, packing HP Hidden Power Fire is a great way to dispatch them Abomasnows.

With a wide variety of different support moves, Lanturn has the potential to try new strategies Lanturn's set can be catered to fit a team's needs. It has access to Stockpile, a great boosting move for up to +3 Def and SpD. It also has Toxic and Volt Switch, moves that can greatly benefit a team. Other than the options listed above, it also has access to Stockpile, Toxic, and Volt Switch. Volt Switch in particular is very admirable The latter is especially notable; with a 252 positive SpD with a Calm nature and 252 SpD EVs, it Lanturn can act as a pivot with thanks to its low speed.

[Checks and Counters]
-EQ

Despite being able to take on Impish Donphan's Earthquake, Lanturn lacks the bulk to take on any other form of Earthquake other than from the aforementioned Impish Donphan. In addition particular, Dugtrio's Arena Trap + Earthquake combo is absolutely fatal to Lanturn. Plan wisely and remove all Ground-type threats before sending Lanturn out to do his its job.

Grass-typesespecially ones with high Special Defense, are great counters to Lanturn, especially ones with high Special Defense. Notably, Shaymin and Celebi, but also Liligant and Roserade. Lanturn is also beat in every way by Abomasnow, despite the fact that it works great on a Hail team. Shaymin is the most notable, but Lilligant, Roserade, and even Abomasnow are huge threats too. However, Lanturn can use HP Fire to get its revenge the latter has to watch out for Hidden Power Fire, as Abomasnow can never OHKO Lanturn.

[Dream World]
<space>

Lanturn's Dream World ability, Water Absorb, is useful for switching in gives Lanturn useful switch-in opportunities against Water-type sweepers, namely such as Suicune. However, Volt Absorb is generally preferred. With Volt Absorb, Lanturn perfectly blocks as it allows Lanturn to resist the BoltBeam combo, AND simultaneously walls and threatens walling and threatening every most bulky Water-types in UU.

GP 1/2

contrib_gp.png

The EV spreads given throughout the sets are mainly to survive certain moves that would otherwise threaten Lanturn. The 40HP/192Def/176SpD spread gives Lanturn enough bulk to withstand Defensephan's EQ, 2-3 of Adamant LO Arcanine's CC, A couple of HP Grasses from almost any special attacker, even surviving Modest Shaymin Seed Flares and CM Giga Drains. Without heavy (100EV+) investment in defensive stats, Lanturn wavers at even the weakest super effective moves. However, with the given spreads, Lanturn can safely absorb any move that threatens it and return damage for damage.

I feel that this paragraph does not belong in the overview. Take this out of the Overview section, split it up and put them in the appropriate sections.

Komodo is taking this over since the OP hasn't been on in a month. Thank you to blaZofgold for getting this started, but we need to move along.

Okay, I believe this is ready for two GP checks. I say two because a substantial amount of this has been edited. Thank you.

When looking for a special attacker that can fit into any team and offer support in any situation, look no further than Lanturn's special tank set names are not capitalized set. This set has unbelievably good coverage with Scald, Ice Beam, and Thunderbolt, enabling it to easily dispatch the trickiest enemies. Lanturn's coverage moves allow it to can ice beam is the only coverage move i think OHKO several common UU Pokemon, such as Azumarill, Arcanine, and Steelix, with a super effective STAB move after Stealth Rock damage.<period>, such as Azumarill, Arcanine, and Steelix. [ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

Lanturn's HP stat is already huge, so the EVs on this set focus on Lanturn's defensive stats. 52 HP EVs reach the nearest Leftovers number, maximum Defense helps Lanturn take on weaker physical attackers, and the remaining EVs are placed into Special Defense. Surf can be used instead of Scald, but the latter's 30% burn chance may come in handy to cripple some of the deadliest physical sweepers. If using Thunder Wave, however, Surf would be more advisable to avoid status conflicts. In exchange, Lanturn resists almost all one of Zapdos's two sounds like it has many weaknesses, creating great synergy. Wish support is appreciated as Lanturn lacks any form of recovery outside of Volt Absorb and Rest. Lanturn's ability gives it great synergy with most other members of rain teams, likely allowing it many free switch-<hyphen>ins verb on Electric-type attacks. Against Blizzard hail teams, Hidden Power Fire is a great way to dispatch Abomasnow.

With a wide variety of different support moves, Lanturn's set can be catered to fit a team's needs. Other than the options listed above, it also has access to Stockpile, Toxic, and Volt Switch. volt switch was listed The latter is especially notable; with a Calm nature and 252 SpD EVs, Lanturn can act as a specially defensive optional pivot thanks to its low speed.

[Checks and Counters]

Lanturn lacks the bulk to take on any Earthquake other than Impish Donphan's. In particular, Dugtrio's Arena Trap + Earthquake combo is absolutely fatal to Lanturn. Plan wisely and remove all Ground-type threats before sending Lanturn out to do its job. AC material :/ Grass-types,<comma> especially ones with high Special Defense, are great counters to Lanturn.<period> Shaymin is the most notable, but Lilligant, Roserade, and even Abomasnow are huge threats too. However, the latter has to watch out for Hidden Power Fire, as Abomasnow can never OHKO Lanturn. HP fire is in OO, mention ice beam can deal with Grass-types? mention the rare water absorb quagsire and opposing lanturn? chansey can wall subcharge if it gets lucky. flygon can break sub with u-turn iirc

[Dream World]

Lanturn's Dream World ability, Water Absorb, gives it useful switch-<hyphen>in verb opportunities against Water-type sweepers such as Suicune. However, Volt Absorb is generally preferred as it allows Lanturn to resist the BoltBeam combo.<period>, walling and threatening most bulky Water-types in UU.

how does it look? :)

[Overview]

At first glance, Lanturn seems nothing more than just an average and easily dismissable Pokemon. When you look at its stats, Lanturn's base 125 HP is its only outstanding aspect; its defensive stats are worse than even Gardevoir's. However, Lanturn's trump card is its excellent typing, and combined with its amazing movepool, Lanturn has the potential to become the number one special based utility Pokemon in UU(for clarification). It shares its Water / Electric typing with only one other fully evolved Pokemon in the entire game, Rotom-W, who is safely out of reach in the battlegrounds of OU. This gives Lanturn unique access to two of the best special STABs, key resistances to five types, and a mere 2 weaknesses, albeit to fairly common attacking types, Ground and Grass. Another key to its valuable niche in UU is its ability, Volt Absorb, which enables it to laugh at the futile attempts of Jolteon and Galvantula to make short work of your team. Combined with moves that make it an excellent team player, such as Thunderbolt, Scald, Thunder Wave, Heal Bell, Ice Beam, and Volt Switch, Lanturn becomes an amazing asset to have on your team.

[SET]
name: Special Tank
move 1: Scald
move 2: Ice Beam
move 3: Thunderbolt
move 4: Heal Bell / Thunder Wave
item: Leftovers
ability: Volt Absorb
nature: Calm
evs: 52 HP / 252 Def / 204 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]

When looking for a special attacker that can fit into any team and offer support in any situation, look no further than Lanturn's special tank set. This set has unbelievably good coverage with Scald, Ice Beam, and Thunderbolt, enabling it to easily dispatch the trickiest enemies. Lanturn can OHKO several common UU Pokemon, such as Azumarill, Arcanine, and Steelix, with a super effective move after Stealth Rock damage. Lanturn's great bulk—thanks to its huge HP stat—allows it to tank and absorb some of the strongest moves, and yet remain in good health. Thunder Wave is an excellent support option as it lets Lanturn cripple sweepers, while Heal Bell enables it to cure itself and its teammates of pesky status, complementing the mixed defensive spread well and allowing Lanturn to act decisively in any situation.

(space?)

Discharge can be used instead of Thunderbolt, but the powerdrop is very noticeable, and Thunder Wave is a more reliable means of spreading paralysis.

Without Stealth Rock support, almost all of Lanturn's OHKOs become measly 2HKOs, defeating the purpose of using Lanturn in the first place. In addition, Lanturn will be crippled by many faster Pokemon that have has Earthquake. Hence, Flying-types and Pokemon with the Levitate ability work excellently with Lanturn, as their Ground-type immunity grants them a free switch. Notable Pokemon include Claydol, who can set up Stealth Rock and avoid Earthquake, and Zapdos,(preference, but em dashes could go here and after hp grass to alleviate confusion, as the previous clause used the form 'X, who ...' whereas here it is used as an aside) who can easily dispatch the annoying Quagsire(space)that walls Lanturn, with Hidden Power Grass, complements Lanturn's weaknesses well. In exchange, Lanturn resists one of Zapdos's two weaknesses, creating great synergy. Wish support is appreciated as Lanturn lacks any form of recovery outside of Volt Absorb and Rest. Clefable is an excellent Wish passer thanks to its high HP stat, while Leafeon is another option as it shares excellent defensive synergy with Lanturn.

[SET]
name: SubCharge
move 1: Substitute
move 2: Charge Beam
move 3: Surf
move 4: Ice Beam
item: Leftovers
ability: Volt Absorb
nature: Modest
evs: 52 HP / 252 SpA / 200 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]

SubCharge is an infamous set that makes a return from DPP UU, but it needs to be played more carefully to achieve success. The strategy is to switch in on a weak, Electric-type,(space)or support move, set up a Substitute, and then start Charge Beaming for a Special Attack boost. After a few boosts, the combination of Surf and Ice Beam will make short work of most enemies.

[ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

52 HP EVs allow Lanturn to create 101 HP Substitutes that will not be broken by Seismic Toss, maximum Special Attack EVs give Lanturn some much needed firepower, and the remaining EVs are placed into Special Defense to give Lanturn extra bulk. However, even though Lanturn has the ability to sweep many teams, it can still be walled or outplayed by some Pokemon that can set up on Lanturn. Therefore, careful play is the key to accumulate as many boosts as possible and make a comeback.

Alternatives to the moveset include Hydro Pump, trading accuracy for massive power. Support from entry hazards is greatly appreciated, especially Toxic Spikes, since it discourages slower boosting sweepers from using Lanturn as setup bait. Great partners to provide entry hazard support include Ferroseed, Donphan, and Roserade. An honorable mention goes out to another late-game menace: Flygon. It can switch in on an Earthquake aimed at Lanturn and proceed to continue the sweep with physical attacks instead, easily taking Pokemon such as Bisharp and Magneton.

[SET]
name: RestTalk
move 1: Rest
move 2: Sleep Talk
move 3: Scald
move 4: Thunderbolt
item: Leftovers
ability: Volt Absorb
nature: Calm
evs: 52 HP / 252 Def / 204 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]

Lanturn's large HP stat enables it to withstand some of the hardest-hitting moves in the game. With RestTalk, Lanturn can absorb status, launch an attack, and heal itself in a single turn.(it technically cannot heal itself and launch an attack in a single turn, it heals itself before launching attacks, so you might want to clarify) While asleep, Lanturn can proceed with Sleep Talk to dish out decent damage. Lanturn received a great gift from BW in Scald, gaining a 30% chance to mess up the best physical sweepers in UU. While Suicune and Milotic might seem to outclass it as a RestTalker, Lanturn's unique typing and ability allows it to stand strong in the face of virtually all special attackers, including Jolteon and Zapdos.

[
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

The EVs lets Lanturn's HP reach a Leftovers number, maximum Defense allows Lanturn to take physical hits easier, such as Donphan's Earthquake, and the remaining EVs are placed into Special Defense. Pokemon who can switch into attacks that Lanturn is weak to should be considered. Flygon and Crobat can switch into Grass- and Ground-type moves, and threaten the opponent with their powerful STAB moves. Ice Beam can be used over Scald if you prefer BoltBeam coverage, but you lose the chance to burn switch-ins.

A(space)cleric, such as Chansey, is helpful to wake up Lanturn if it has to switch out, and it can also support Lanturn with Wish. Because this set is so good at stalling the opponent, Toxic Spikes should be considered to wear down Pokemon such as Suicune. Roserade can set up Toxic Spikes and it poses a decent threat to Ground-types who try to KO Lanturn.

move 3: Heal Bell / Ice Beam
move 4: Volt Switch

[SET COMMENTS]

Possessing all the tools it needs to take charge of the weather and use it to its full advantage, Lanturn is arguably the best Rain Dance user in all of UU. With excellent typing, a fantastic ability, and great bulk, absorbing Electric-type moves and providing its team with 8 turns of rain is a simple task for Lanturn to accomplish. BW granted Lanturn the amazing move known as Volt Switch, which, thanks to Lanturn's low speed, can be used to bring in a sweeper unharmed from an attack.

[
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS]

The EV spread allows it to go on the offense with an immensely powerful rain-boosted Hydro Pump, capable of ripping huge holes in an opponent's team. Lanturn's huge movepool gives it a choice between an offensive role or and a defensive one, allowing it to complement its teammates fantastically. Offensively, STAB Hydro Pump and 100% accurate STAB Thunder allow it to quickly repel threats that switch in, possibly gaining it free turns to set up. Alternatively, Scald and Discharge trade power for excellent secondary effects, while Surf offers greater damage output; pick the option that best fits your team. Support-wise, Lanturn has Heal Bell, Thunder Wave, Confuse Ray, and Volt Switch; all of which can help your teammates thrive and(preference, 'thrive and' is not really necessary) set up to sweep. Ice Beam provides great coverage as well, and Blizzard can be used if hail becomes too rampant.

Lanturn works well with Dragon Dance Swift Swim Kingdra, who has amazing coverage just by using(space)STAB Waterfall and Outrage. Other notable Swift Swim Pokemon include Kabutops, Omastar, and Gorebyss. Ludicolo can abuse Rain Dish and Leech Seed, which turns it into an annoying tank.(what about Ludicolo as a Swift Swim Pokemon?) Jolteon and Rotom-H also benefit from the rain as it boosts Thunder's accuracy to 100%.

[Other Options]

Lanturn can run a parafusion set with Water Pulse and Thunder Wave, but this is less effective than before since switching is seen more commonly in a tier full of Choice users. However, parafusion would complement the paraflinch Togekiss very nicely, forming a solid paralysis-spreading core to aid slower sweepers. Lanturn can also be used effectively on rain teams as an all-out sweeper. Lanturn's ability gives it great synergy with most other members of rain teams, allowing it many free switch ins on Electric-type attacks.
