Laddering =[=]=[=]=[=]=[=]=[=]= Meh

I have not been doing as well on the ladder as I had hoped so I am bringing this to you, it features a WGF core of Walrien, Tangela and Torkoal. I built around that and my Ghost/Psychic killer Skuntank.

Haunter (M) @ Choice Scarf Trait: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Shadow Ball
- Sludge Bomb
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Ground]

  • Haunter is my Scarfed revenge killer, it out speeds almost everything, even +2 Gorebyss and can KO with Thunderbolt. Sludge bomb gives a more powerful STAB than Shadow Ball and can hit Tangela very hard. Hidden Power Ground stops Skuntank if it predicts a switch instead of using Sucker Punch and hits Probopass really hard, hurts Riachu and Magmorter too. Shadow Ball hit ghosts and psychics. Levitate gives me Ground-type and spikes immunity, but makes it so I cannot absorb T-spikes. I have my own Skuntank and my Torkoal for that though. Haunter is very frail so I have to switch out if I cannot kill the opposing Pokemon, that is why I was thinking about the Sub set. I like Scarf a lot though because it CAN out speed everything, which is advantage I like to have.

Walrein (M) @ Leftovers

Trait: Thick Fat

EVs: 252 HP / 4 SAtk / 252 SDef

Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Toxic
- Surf
- Protect
- Encore

  • Walrein is a great special wall it stops Magmortar in its tracks, only taking around 42% From thunderbolt, maybe less, but I have to watch for Specs, even then Walrein is fine. Thick fat gives great resists to compliment the water typing and the weakness to the relatively common fire moves in NU. Toxic is great since I don't have T-Spikes and surf still hits hard with base 95 Special attack. Encore helps if they like to set up Subs or to trap them into a boosting move; it assists in forcing switches so Walrein can toxic more of the opponents Pokemon. This Pokemon can remove almost all opposing walls the opponent has while being able to take almost all hits ever haaha.

Skuntank (F) @ Life Orb

Trait: Aftermath
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Pursuit
- Sucker Punch
- Poison Jab
- Taunt

  • This removes psychic threats that can kill Throh and my other physical walls. Taunt stops opposing Pokemon from setting up and max HP investment allows tank to live any attack a wall can dish out. Pursuit and Sucker Punch function similarly, if they try to switch then I can predict that and use Pursuit. If think they will attack Sucker punch can hurt then very badly, usually a KO if they are Kadabra or Haunter. Poison Jab gives another STAB move so it can attack other Pokemon, not just Psychics and Ghosts. Tangela is hit hard by it and the use of Taunt stops Sleep Powder or Leech Seed. Ground moves aren't that common in NU but Hidden Power Ground is not uncommon on Kadabra. I can use Haunter to evade this but with only one weakness Skuntank is hard to kill unless he switches in on a boosted move. Aftermath I find more useful than stench as I can predict the use of a choice band/scarf physical move from Braviary for example and possibly KO if he has low enough health. I'm not say I use it just for that but if tank is low on health he makes good fodder.

Throh (M) @ Chesto Berry

Trait: Guts

EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SDef
Careful Nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
- Circle Throw
- Bulk Up
- Rest
- Stone Edge

  • Throh is just silly good, after one bulk up he is bulky, after two bulk ups, he is a monster. In all seriousness Throh can shuffle around the opposing team for days, getting in damage to at least three opposing mons before he dies. Circle Throw can phaze and do sizable amounts of damage but has to watch out for the likes of Mesprit and Rotom flying with levitate, lol. Walrein can wall Rotom if he is choiced into Air slash, even if the opponent does predict with thunderbolt walrein can take the hit. Psychics are handled with Skuntank as mentioned earlier. Stone Edge increases coverage specifically against flying types, ice types are already hit hard by circle throw. Rest makes everything better. Alongside Guts Throw cannot be out stalled with Toxic, he will demolish the opponent if they status him, then he just rests the damage off. A specially defensive spread is used to provide bulk on both ends after Bulk Up and allows Throh to switch in and set up on resisted or weak special attacks.
114.gif

Tangela (M) @ Eviolite

Trait: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Giga Drain
- Leech Seed
- Sleep Powder
- Hidden Power [Rock]

  • Tangela is another power house, but differently than Throh. For this team he provides a needed Electric resist and a great physical wall. With sleep powder he can cripple almost any Pokemon if I can predict correctly, this can then force another switch while I use leech seed, then regenerate off health while switching out. Giga Drain is used as STAB and regeneration while Hidden Power Rock hits Rotom and ice types hoping to switch in, it really just adds great coverage to the move set. Not much else to say here because Tangela is so great, the only downfall I see is the similar weakness to flying that it shares with Throh, which are walled by Walrein.

324.gif

Torkoal (F) @ Leftovers

Trait: White Smoke
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SDef
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Rapid Spin
- Stealth Rock
- Lava Plume
- Toxic

  • Torkoal is my spinner and my Stealth Rock user, that is rather inconvenient but seems to be a trend in the lower tiers. Lava Plume is relatively strong even from Torkoal and has a good chance to burn, helping against Physical attackers even more. Toxic is used again for stalling and good damage other than Lava Plume. It is nice because lava plume can hit steels while toxic gets everything else.

  • I see Torkoal as the weakest link on my team and would like to change him. I thought about using another rapid spin/stealth rock user like Armaldo, but I also thought using a more offensive pokemon would be useful. I have very few outlets of attack, Throh and Haunter are the main ones, Skuntank has a very specific offensive presence but really does little against other types of Pokemon.

So there you have it, an NU RMT. Something that has been tested, tweaked and refined, but I think I need an overhaul to bring this assembly to the top.

Thank you for viewing and a preemptive thanks to anyone that helps.

Initially reading, I didn't believe you when you said Walrein took such little damage from Maggy's attacks, but I did some calcs it seems legit. Just make sure that you can keep the field clear of hazards and he should be fine.

As for the hazards, I'd say run Cryogonal instead of Torkoal. Cryo is immune to Spikes and T-Spikes, has great SpDef, and has a decent SpAtk. It also has a shit-ton more speed than Torkoal.

Also, I say this to every Skuntank user: Unless you absolutely NEED Taunt, Absol is probably going to be doing better than Skuntank. Running Absol would also give your team a higher offensive presence instead of just a Psychic killer.

I can post some sets if you wanna see 'em.

I did think about Absol, the main reason for me running skuntank was that I did the CC analysis for it and wanted to test it out.

I will switch it to Absol, if I add cryoganal then I don't really need walrein and it breaks the fwg core. That's fine as long as you think it will function when I have 3 fighting weaknesses, keeping walrein.

For one it phazes and forces them to switch out so I can hit for more damage on every pokemon, kind of like entry hazards would. I don't know if I was clear or not but I want to find something to use spikes.
