Introduction:
Lucario has always been a fan favorite. Steel/Fighting has its benefits and with access to adaptability, Mega Lucario can hit very, very hard. Mega Luc was a monster in OU, after being banned to the ubers teir I found it a bit harder to use. Lucario ended up fainting with only 1 KO. It was a set-up sweeper that couldn't really take powerful hits and it now has to be played more carefully to be effective. So either I abandon my lucario team, or get good. So I'm working on building an offensive lucario team from the ground up and working on making this wolf feared.
Team:
Mega Lucario has a very diverse movepool. I decided to go with Physical set. Swords Dance boosts Lucario's attack to high levels. Combined with Adaptability, The damage adds up. Close Combat hits with STAB and is accurate unlike Iron Tail. However, Iron tail has good coverage with CC and hits fairies very hard. Bullet Punch is to hit faster threats, and also has STAB, benefiting from Adaptability. If you play Lucario effectively, it can switch into a dark type move before mega evolving to receive an attack boost. However, Lucario cannot take repeated hits.
Lucario-Mega @ Lucarionite
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Bullet Punch
- Iron Tail
- Close Combat
Wobbuffet is a new recruit to the team. Its job is to find the biggest threat on the opponent's team, and take it out. If it does that, then it can KO something else with Destiny Bond and custap berry. It only has one trick, but if used correctly, key threats are taken out. Counter takes any physical damage Fet takes and throws it back at the opponent for double damage. Mirror Coat does the same but with special attacks. Encore traps the opponent in the last move it used, trapping opponents that try to set up on Fet. Wobbufet works, but maybe there could be a better option out there.
Wobbuffet @ Custap Berry
Ability: Shadow Tag
EVs: 80 HP / 176 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Counter
- Mirror Coat
- Encore
- Destiny Bond
Groudon does it all. Main reason for using it is because Lucario would get crippled with thunder wave or will-o-wisp. Groudon is immune to both of these. Stealth Rocks helps the team by hurting the opponent on switch. Thunder Wave slows anything faster than lucario and makes it easier to sweep with the rest of the team. Precipice Blades punches holes in teams and has STAB and Rock Slide lets Groudon go for flinches on top of the chance of paralysis.
Groudon-Primal @ Red Orb
Ability: Desolate Land
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Atk / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Precipice Blades
- Stealth Rock
- Rock Slide
- Thunder Wave
Yveltal is a great wallbreaker. Close Combat is blocked by ghost types and Yveltal does very well aganist ghosts. Dark Pulse is very powerful with STAB and Dark Aura making switching in harder. Sucker Punch can finish off faster threats such as Mewtwo and Gengar. Oblivion Wing also hits with STAB and can heal Yceltal, making it last longer. Heat Wave is for Klefki which really annoyed my team before I added Yveltal.
Yveltal @ Black Glasses
Ability: Dark Aura
EVs: 132 HP / 28 Atk / 252 SpA / 96 Spe
Rash Nature
- Dark Pulse
- Sucker Punch
- Oblivion Wing
- Heat Wave
Xerneas is one of the best setup sweepers in the game. If not prepared for this set, it can 6-0 entire teams. Geomancy with Power Herb doubles Xerneas' Special attack, special defence, and speed in 1 turn. after that it can outspeed and OHKO most pokemon. Moonblast has good power, coverage, has STAB, and is boosted by Fairy Aura. Thunder hits Ho-Oh and can OHKO if weakened. Focus Blast is the best tool available for dealing with Groudon and also hits steel types.
Xerneas @ Power Herb
Ability: Fairy Aura
EVs: 184 HP / 28 Def / 252 SpA / 44 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Moonblast
- Thunder
- Geomancy
- Focus Blast
Extreme Killer Arceus can sweep mid to late game if given the opportunity. Swords Dance doubles Arceus' attack allowing it to OHKO some things with Extreme Speed. 2 swords dances is basically a win. Extreme Speed allows Arceus to outspeed everything acting as a revenge killer and late game sweeper. Earthquake hits rock and steel types that resist Extreme Speed. Shadow Claw is for giratina-O, which would wall the previous two moves.
Arceus @ Life Orb
Ability: Multitype
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Extreme Speed
- Earthquake
- Shadow Claw
- Swords Dance
Thought of some alternatives that I have tested with the team with mixed results.
Alternitive teamates:
Darkrai with thunder --> for Ho-oh
Kyogre-Primal --> Lucario can check switch-ins to Kyogre
Shaymin-S --> Revenge killer, can bring back Lucario with Healing Wish
If anyone has any advice or suggestions on how to make this Mega Lucario team better, it would help me out greatly. Thanks in advance.
