How Deranged Are "Brain Breaks"

I work in an Elementary school, one that has been awarded a blue ribbon, meaning it placed within the top 500 or so out of 27,000 in the United States. I have a degree in Physical Education, so naturally, I understand and agree that physical activity can help boost learning and attention in the classroom. Every teacher I've worked with has some time slot in the middle of a lesson they use for a "brain break." These Brain Breaks let the kids get up, dance, and sing along to whatever is shown on the board. However, I've realized that some brain breaks are deranged.

For Example:

I feel like this is insanely deranged. It's just a bunch of pop culture characters, candy for the New Year, and freeze-dancing. Looking at the bright colors and picking which present I wanted made my brain turn to mush.

Another Example:

OMG BRO ITS A DOG WITH DREADS SINGING ABOUT LEARNING FROM YOUR MISTAKES WHILE ALSO BEING SNOOP DOGG.

if u wanna give me a brain break, let me go use the restroom without narcing on me for getting a loaner student ID, having my phone in my pocket, or even for wanting to go with 10 or less minutes of class left, SCHOOL.

anyways random personal grudges aside, i really wish breaks were more standardized past elementary school. like ofc dont make me dance to fuckin cocomelon with subway surfers in the background, but i think expecting young kids to be work machines is not only dumb, but pretty disrepectful.

my elementary school never did that. honestly i feel like i have more of them now in high school than i did back then. tbf about half of my classes have more or less zero class content and i can really just turn my brain off and go play gba games on the emulator i dug out of github or read through these forums on the proxy i force my friend to send to me every few weeks

on wednesdays and thursdays we'll take half our classes but we get hour and a half long classes (1hr40 for 3rd period idk why) and some teachers actually do hand out a 10 minute break those days. off the top of my head it's really just my 2nd and 4th period but 7th sorta counts bc we do quizzes that day and the teacher doesn't care what we do when we're done as long as we don't bother anyone else. my 3rd period used to do it too but she stopped doing that like a month into the school year.

doing jack shit in all my classes will probably bite me in the ass later (likely when testing season comes around but its not like paying attention to those shitass slides my busman teacher reads through is gonna help me on the ib test lol) but i have straight a's except health but thats the fault of her grading policy and she put like 1/4th of the gradebook points into the final unit so that's recoverable

things would be way different if i got the other apush teacher. thank u costy 4 not grading notes ❤️

omg u just reminded me of like the best thing ever. whenever my english 10 teacher needs to make an example about plot, character, and other stuff, he puts on an entire episode of fresh prince of bel air, like not even a clip, whole ass episode. not really a brain break in the traditional sense per se, but its still nice to just sit and watch a good show. on a side note if anyone out there happens to have the raw video files for the entire series, of course obtained with legal methods, hmu. this may be the first time in my life seeing smth in school made me actually want to get it, aside from like fidget spinners ig.

if having breaks where you can move during a time where you would normally be sitting is good, then the opposite should apply too right?

maybe you should have a muscle break where the students can do sudoku or wordle or something in the middle of your pe class

I remember my little cousin used to watch a lot of that a year or two ago. Like, whenever we were on a restaurant or any place were we had to keep to ourselves, my uncle would pull out his phone so that he could start watching (probably so he doesn't make a fuzz). Luckily, he's since been introduced to actual cartoons, as well as learning to entertain himself. He still watches brainrot from time to time, and the cartoons he watches are more slapstick than anything, but hey, it's an improvement!

raw video files and legal methods in the same sentence
in 2025

I’ve worked in the same setting and I can confirm that if you were born before 2008 that these seem like total brainrot. Kids seem to love them though

I really appreciate :Tyranitar: how often I get brain breaks :Gyarados: reading posts in the competitive sections :Blissey: of the site. I really can’t focus :Jirachi: unless the post is interrupted :Metagross: with Pokemon sprites :Zapdos: instead of their names :Skarmory: several times a sentence.
you dont get it having to see a photo and then replace it in your head with the pokemon's name is so much better than just writing the pokemon's name
