Hitmontop help. How to get intimdate, and Ev spread.

What ability tyrogue turns into intimidate.

also i have 298 EVS, what would be the best placement to maximize his ability to take phsical abuse? (he is adamant).

so far i have 144 HP 154 Defense.

(the idea is to have enuff attack to ohko ttar with machpunch, and enuff HP to survive atleast 2 hits...he is holding CB)

Unfortunately, there is no way to guarantee an OHKO against even no HP\no Def Tyranitar without the Technician boost. With max Attack and Adamant, there is only an 85% probability of OHKOing. With Technician and the Choice Band, though, the OHKO is guaranteed.

And it's the Guts Tyrogues that turn into Intimidate Hitmontops.

As for Hitmontop's defenses, you should start out by maxing HP, since it's his weakest defense stat.

Same line of topic.

How do you get Rhyhorns to be Solid Rock Rhyperiors.

I hear it's Rock Head and not Lightning Rod, amirite?

Maxing its HP would maximize its defensive and special defensive abilities. However giving him a mix of HP/defense (if the right mix) will always be better on teh regular defensive side.

For example on a 152 hp/152 defense spread we have....an average of 47.2% damage done to hitmontop assuming a 450 attack power uses a base 100 move with no item (nonstab). However with a 252 HP spread we have a 49.9% average damage done.

EDIT: also at 208 evs in attack with adamant nature CB intimidate tyrogue does an average of 353 damage with machpunch to a min hp/def TTar. Which gives him an average above the OHKO mark. However ya there are 13 out of 38 damage ranges that do not OHKO. So with my spread he has a 65% chance to OHKO a ttar with machpunch, while 100% of the time surviving 2 attacks in teh sand. Hopefully i damage him on the switch in which would give me a really good chance to ohko 100%

I can't believe this thread popped up! I decided to raise a Hitmontop, but finding good parents is hard. I think catching ones with Pokeradar is the best way if you dont already have a good natured Hitmon from a previous game.

This proves that more EV's are better than fewer EV's.

Lets start with base stats. Without IV's or EV's a Hitmontop has 210 HP and 195 Defense. Since you're breeding this Hitmontop for defense, your IV's in each are going to be at least 29, so lets go with that.

Now we're at 239 HP and 224 Defense. Now, against a 604 attack (Max Attack, 1 DD) Tyranitar using Earthquake, Hitmontop will take 193-228 damage. Now, if you add one more point of Defense (4 EVs) then the exact same attack will deal 192-227 damage. If you instead add 10 more points of defense (40 EVs), then the attack will deal 185-218. If you instead add 50 more points of defense (200 EVs), then the attack will deal 159-187 damage. There are clearly diminishing returns here, and each individual point of defense never does anything another point of HP couldn't do. Whats more, even if you max out both, you always get a 2HKO from Tyranitar almost all of the time.

x-codes you are not factoring in intimidate.

or heck even technician which would allow for ohko machpunch@CB with defensive EVS.

In this case, his calculations still hold true when Top comes in on the switch. Revenge Kills only happen 5 times in any given game :-p

Out of curiosity how does Triple Kick work? "Hits 3 times with rising intensity" I'm assuming it's 10, 20, 30 so with technician + STAB...

10*1.5*1.5 + 20*1.5*1.5 + 30*1.5*1.5 = 135 (After STAB)

Not bad considering it can break subs and Hitmontop probably doesn't want to be losing any defenses from Close Combat. This move is pretty much the reason he got Technician IMO.

403 attack (1 DD, and then intimidate), then

0 Defense = 130-153
10 Defense = 124-146
50 Defense = 106-125

Always max HP before touching Defense unless your base defense is really low, not somewhat decent like Hitmontop's.

239 HP, 0 Defense = 54%-64%

239 HP, 10 Defense = 51%-61%
249 HP, 0 Defense = 52%-61%

239 HP, 50 Defense = 44%-52%
289 HP, 0 Defense = 44%-52%
264 HP, 25 Defense = 44%-51%

There is absolutely no significant difference against physical attacks, which means those points in HP will give you more compared to points in Defense because it also applies to special attacks.
