Hardest video game level/boss you've ever faced

Selection_041.png

The Other Vessel (Patapon 3)

Yukari Yakumo Eirin Yagokoro Flandre Scarlet Reisen U. Inaba Pretty much any Touhou game ever once you get past 'Normal' difficulty.

bullshit

Trunkle from Superstar Saga. That guy was such a dick until you worked out the tricks for fighting him.

Apart from that, pretty much 90% of the last galaxy in Super Mario Galaxy 2. Especially that fucking Cyclone Stone remake and the Luigi's Purple Coin (with SHADOW CLONES! ARGH)

In metroid fusion Nightmare really depends on your missile firing speed for the last half (when his faceplate and gravity device breaks). The first half is beatable in like 20 seconds lol

I've beaten that game so much though, got my minimum time down to 1:32 lol. The bosses are really fun.

also for the plasma beam boss your powerbombs do damage and clear the screen of those projectiles that the ceiling flowers fire. morph ball is good for dodging his high beams too. just camp the platform closest to the boss and keep a powerbomb out at all times while youre mashing the missile button.

i still havent beaten wily castle stage 4 in megaman 2 lol, maybe i can tackle that today since my net's latency is high as fuck for no reason

cave story was hard for me too, ive only managed to beat the story on the easiest Wii version difficulty by whoring out machinegun levitation and that one really powerful sidequest gun. the final area is just tough without the MG.

Okay this isn't really a boss but....
Mario Kart Wii Rainbow Road expert ghost
I can beat the normal ghost just fine, but to get a truly amazing score it takes hours of practice.
Your coming around the corner on your last lap and you fall off. Or you forget to turbo boost or something. The whole thing is over.

Mario and Luigi Partners in Time, THe final Princess Shroobs. The first time I played them, I didn't even know how to use the Copy Flower properly, so I had to Mix Flower my way through them. The tentacle attacks were kinda hellish the first time I played the game.

Anyone who played Super Mario World remember this level? Hardest fucking level in the entire game. It's nigh impossible to complete without using Blue Yoshi to fly using a Koopa Shell. And you still need to get past those bloody Volcano Lotuses that make you lose your Yoshi if they hit you.

The wiki's advice is to use the P balloon, but it's pretty much impossible, considering that you lose the balloon ability once you're hit... It took me goodness knows how many tries to get past this level. The rest of the game was pretty OK, with the main exception of Bowser's boss battle. That was just bullshit.

Pokemon is a really easy game, but Ghetsis' Hydreigon gave me hell because I replaced Haxorus' DD with SD, denying me that valuable extra Speed to beat the asshat.

1. pocket chomp >>>>>>>> copy flower

2. mix flower is amazing against elder princess shroob, if done well it can disable all her tentacles at once

Oh my god, I hate 3 range snipers, I never bother to check their ranges until they start shooting at my squishy backline units...and all enemy units with high crit chances just piss me off in general. The enemy shamans with Luna are always the worst offenders for me.

I haven't played all the Fire Emblem games, but of the ones I have played, the hardest level I have ever encountered was in Radiant Dawn. It was the level where the Dawn Brigade first encounters the Laguz...I couldn't even hold out until the Black Knight teleported in without losing a unit. I don't even think it was an issue of being RNG-screwed, my Aran had like 18 DEF already and he still got 2-shotted by the laguz :| Ultimately I ended up beating it through a pretty insane series of lucky roles (like, dodging several 70% hit chances).

Edit: That Gitaroo Hero song was awesome.
I can make that chapter (3-6) easy for you.

Tip 1) Don't use Aran. He's pretty bad period.
Tip 2) Use Nolan w/Beastfoe. Tarvos and Crossbow combo is ridiculous to have.
Tip 3) Use Volug. Obviously.
Tip 4) Use Sothe and Jill sparingly.

Micaiah and Laura should be healing with your other scrub units doing other duties. Sothe should have Torches in the map to help range of sight. Jill w/Paragon in this chapter is a pretty good strategy to have, though I guess if you aren't wanting to train Nolan you can Beastfoe Jill and if you don't want to train Nolan... um... er... I guess Beastfoe Volug / Paragon Jill?

Metroid fusion haha. I never had a problem with nightmare: when its face starts to melt you grab onto the wall and unload all of your missiles as it charges at you and it pretty much takes it out instantly. On the other hand I probably spent at least 5 hours trying to beat that spinning spider that picks you up and piledrives you.

Paper mario and luigis mansion final bosses were pretty much impossible to beat. Especially paper mario because you have to watch a 30 minute cutscene per try, which lasts about 2 minutes. F-zero is also incredibly difficult especially the very hard story mode chapters and master class.

Fire emblem has a ton of BS too; they get to hit you from 10 spaces away with thunder and berserk under time limits and you pretty much have to get lucky. The japanese one with roy was the worst because all of their units were like 5x stronger than mine. And they appear from the forts and attack on the same turn which is just

F-Zero GX is a hard game as it is.
Now try the story mode
Mission 7
Hardest difficulty.
30 races. You MUST win.
5 of these racers are aimed to destroy you. They all have tougher cars then you.
The track features narrow parts without railings, ice patches, lava patches and mines.

Have fun. Call me when you win. See you in 2015.

Haha good luck Nastyjungle

Hardest level ever? From a realistic standpoint - [Edit] Paranoia - Hades on Challenge, DDR Supernova 2 - video (holy crap)

Hardest boss ever? Shining Soul, advanced mode, Otherwordly Forest. It literally took me a few months to beat that boss, and when I beat it I flew through the rest of the game with no difficulty even though that's only like the 4th level out of 8.

have any of you ever played cave story
"sacred grounds" holy fuck
then after that they throw this ridiculous fucking boss at you
it's a bitch when you're trying to get a good time because you skip the hearts and experience and shit that makes it actually possible

pretty much any touhou game ever fuck normal difficulty normal difficulty is for normal people but seriously I can't get past stage six in PCB fuuuuuck

also I dunno what you guys are talking about lavos he's pretty easy

chou I looked at that video and if I ever see that game I swear I am running in the opposite direction

Also killing the Hellcats in Jak 2. Fucking ridiculous.

OK I'm going to get in this flying car, chase all eight of you, and then shoot you as I'm chasing you. Here, I'll use my good gun; oh wait it has no accuracy. Here let me use the gun with the good accuracy; oh wait I have to practically stop to use it while getting mercilessly shot at by assholes. Here I'm going to use my shotgun; oh wait I have to get in your face for it to be effective by which time you will have already killed me.

Fuck. That. Still haven't beat that game either. If anybody has any tips for this level let me know.

That was rough in Hero Mode.

Shiro Tagachi in Guild Wars Factions was tough. Level 31 boss with 8 level 20 characters with damn high HP dealing a crapload of damage while one of your party members gets randomly teleported.

I never did the DoA in Nightfall though and I haven't played any GW since 2008 or so. I got a soloist for Abbadon, and Lich Lord wasn't hard to manage.

@zacchaeus: Aren't there a bunch of different Paranoia variants in that DDR? I used to play back in the day, but I couldn't even get past those first 5 sceonds, even in my prime lol. Though I knew people who could probably do that. Those slowing down parts are a bitch though.

@Whoever said Baal was easy: As a person who didn't originally know about grinding, let me say that Prinny Baal in the Battleship Yoshitsuna was something I never beat. I consider him to be difficult just because of the sheer power he has, not because of skill. So I'd have to agree with you there.

Also, people, Sepiroth from KH2 was not difficult. I can't really think of any other boss/level that was really difficult...something from Star Ocean: Till the End of Time was insanely difficult. And two bosses from Xenosaga were hard too (one was in a closet, and one was upside down, I think).

Yes, Paranoia has been remade more than any other song in DDR and I believe it has made an appearance in every single DDR game. Some are definitely easier than others though

So I'll fire off Boost Guardian from MP2, due to the fact he's just fucking ridiculous when he enters Boost Mode.

In terms of other brutal things, I will only say any high depth Fiend floor in Spiral Knights, especially if it's a Shock-based stratum. Those Beryl greavers can wipe a party in seconds with those shock statuses.

In terms of infuriation, however, look no further than Reptilicus Maximus from Alundra, and his reptile lair. Firstly, those reptiles hit hard and fast, and are tricky to kill without taking a smack yourself. The worst thing about them is their numbers. At one point, you have ten of them on your ass in a cramped area, it's not fun. The boss himself summons six of them and will replace each one slain, all the while leaping and stopping you if you're on the ground on landing, and then proceeding to heal up if you're not attacking him.

I just played Metroid Fusion again last week and this guy

nightmareok.png

WAS A TOTAL FUCKSTAIN.

I must have lost about a dozen times until I got his goddamn pattern down. I was also down a couple of Energy Tanks because this game is a shitty asshole about letting you explore sometimes and I forgot to look for them when I could have.

Really? I never remember having any trouble when facing Nightmare. Just keep spaming the charge shot when he turns on the gravity and time your jumps to dodge his shots, then start spamming missles as fast as you can when his faceplate blows off. I can likely see the swooping part being a bit tought if your slow though.

Mentioning stuff already said in order from easiest to hardest (to me):

Cyber Peacock as Zero, MMX4

Ryuenjin dude. I personally found Slash Beast way harder. I mean, he's easy if you abuse dash-cancelling, but... idk I found him unusually hard for some reason.

Tubular and Bowser, SMW

Well... you're supposed to use the P balloon. That's the whole point of the level, lol. Also, I'm confused as to why you are complaining about getting hit once when using the Blue Yoshi doesn't even solve that problem. I agree that this is definitely the hardest level in the game by far, though. (Now I've played enough SMW hacks that I find it easy, but the childhood nightmares linger...)

I think that Bowser (and Tubular, too, really) is just a matter of figuring out his pattern. I found him hard as a child, too, but there are much harder bosses in gaming.

Nightmare, Fusion

Nightmare's definitely a tough one, lol. The first part is dumb, but trying to hit his face in the second part gets a little aggravating.

Wiley's castle in Megaman 2.

I don't know if I'd call 2 the easiest in the series (I played 2 and 3 again recently and found 2's bosses easier but 3's Wily castle easier), but the wall cannon boss is legit bs.

Touhou games are utter bs.

To add more RPG bosses to the mix: the last bosses in Romancing SaGa 3 are unreal. It's not just the fact that the bosses are hard in themselves (which they are), but they mark a sudden, very large difficulty spike. At some point, you feel a bit complacent and want to finish the game already, but then the remixed four devil lords murder you... If you ask about this game, people might tell you that you need all your characters at 999 HP to have a good shot at beating the final boss... it's not true, but it's not surprising that some people have resorted to that (that, and people probably reach that after doing everything in the game).
