The recent tiering changes DO NOT come into effect until Round 2 of the UU, RU and NU opens.

This means that for Round 1 of these tournaments you must play the tiers as they were on July 8th. So once the servers are updated you should play these games in the OU tier (this is to simulate the old metas, you can't bring a Landorus-T to your UU game just because it was played in OU)

The recent actually correct tiering changes DO NOT come into effect for round 2 of the UU Open. The metagame played for round 2 will be the same as the one played for round 1.

Gastrodon, Gliscor and Serperior rose to OU, while Amoonguss, Diancie-Mega, Mamoswine and Venusaur-Mega dropped down to UU. To make it easier on you all, here's a quick summary of what is and isn't allowed for round 2 of the UU Open:

ALLOWED
- Gastrodon
- Gliscor
- Serperior

NOT ALLOWED
- Amoonguss
- Diancie-Mega
- Mamoswine
- Venusaur-Mega

Because Gastrodon, Gliscor and Serperior are moving to OU even though they're still allowed in round 2 of the UU Open, we ask of you to play your round 2 games in the Gen 7 OU format in order to still be able to use the aforementioned Pokemon. If you're caught using Pokemon that aren't allowed in your UU Open games, you will be disqualified from the tournament.

I forgot to mention this last night, but the RU Open and NU Open games should also be played in the Gen 7 OU format due to Gastrodon rising all the way up to OU. Because Gastrodon is still allowed in round 1 of RU Open and NU Open, please play your round 1 games in the Gen 7 OU format if you haven't played your round 1 games yet!

So to be absolutely clear, the RU Open and NU Open games of round 1 should be played in the metagame as it was before the tier changes that were released yesterday, but in the Gen 7 OU format.

Re: Typhlosion56 v ItzViper482, RU Open

Situation: The TD team has received undeniable evidence that Typhlosion56 was ghosted during his RU Open games against ItzViper482. This ghosting included both text ghosting in a private discord server and a voice call. Users involved in the text ghosting and/or the voice call include CM_Metro, paoisd, OkayRed and Nash Ketchum.

Result: Typhlosion56, CM_Metro, paoisd, OkayRed and Nash Ketchum will be tournament banned for one year.

Re: Typhlosion56 v ItzViper482, RU Open, part II

Situation: Following Typhlosion56's reported win over ItzViper482 in RU Open, it was subsequently discovered that Typhlosion had been ghosted during those games.

While typically players who have lost do not retroactively advance if it is discovered that their opponent was ghosted, this is a unique situation. This ghosting occurred during Round 1, and was discovered prior to the round's conclusion and the next round being posted. Furthermore, advancing a tourbanned opponent into R2 would result in giving a random player free advancement into R3, which is not ideal for the tour.

Therefore, the TD team has agreed to treat the games against ItzViper482 and Typhlosion56 as dead games rather than losses. This will give ItzViper482 a chance to possibly receive a substitute, if one is available.

Result: The games that were played during Typhlosion56 and ItzViper82's set are nullified. The hosts of RU Open will be advised to provide a substitute for ItzViper482, if there are any substitutes available. For cases of future precedent, this is specifically an option because the ghosting incident happened in round 1 of a tour, and was discovered early enough that a potential substitute could be made prior to the round's conclusion.

Because Gastrodon, Gliscor and Serperior are moving to OU even though they're still allowed in round 2 of the UU Open, we ask of you to play your round 2 games in the Gen 7 OU format in order to still be able to use the aforementioned Pokemon.
I forgot to mention this last night, but the RU Open and NU Open games should also be played in the Gen 7 OU format due to Gastrodon rising all the way up to OU.

With the new rounds of UU, RU and NU Open going up a week after the respective tier leaders and councils had a chance to look into quick bans for their tiers, you no longer have to challenge your opponents in the Gen 7 OU format for UU, RU and NU Open. From round 2 of NU and RU Open and round 3 of UU Open onward your games can and must be played in their usual formats.

If you've gotten an extension for NU or RU Open round 1 or UU Open round 2, then you still have to abide by the messages I've quoted above as the new round hasn't started for you yet.

RE: mags vs Jase Duken, Ubers Open

Situation: Prior to Jase Duken's game against mags in Ubers Open, Jase tested his team on the Pokemon Showdown! main server in a hidden game without spectators, and saved the replay. Jase later used this team in Ubers Open, where he lost to mags. The TD team found evidence that mags was aware of Jase's team prior to their game.

Upon further investigation, the TD team discovered that a bot was created that had the ability to locate replays from hidden games. The TD team has discovered evidence that Acacia was responsible for the creation of this bot, and that this was the method by which mags obtained this hidden replay.

Using a bot or other similar means to obtain hidden replays that can be used to counterteam an opponent is well beyond the scope of what is acceptable, and provides a significant and unfair advantage. As a result, the games between Jase Duken and mags will be nullified, and mags will be tourbanned for one year. Jase Duken will be given a bye and advance to the next round of Ubers Open. In addition, Acacia will also be tourbanned for her role in the creation of this bot; as she has previous ghosting history, her ban will be extended by two years, and added to the existing penalty she is currently serving.

The TD team has discovered the exploit that has allowed this bot to function, and is currently working with Zarel to eliminate it. We will make a new announcement when the issue is resolved. In the meantime, we recommend that you do not save any replays of test games that may be used against you, even if they are hidden.

Result: mags is tournament banned for one year. Acacia is tournament banned for two additional years. The games between mags and Jase Duken will be nullified, and Jase Duken will receive a bye for Round 1.

RU has banned Entei. Entei is still allowed for the remainder of RU Open round 3, so if you have yet to play your RU Open round 3 set please do so in the Gen 7 OU format (Gen 7 UU doesn't allow for Drought to be used, so please use Gen 7 OU) in order to still be able to use Entei.

As of round 4 Entei will no longer be allowed in RU Open.

I have two quick announcements for you all today.

1. Celebrate Meloetta was released this weekend. Since Celebrate Meloetta was released in the middle of UU Open round 7 and RU Open round 6, it will NOT be allowed in either Open this week. Celebrate Meloetta will be allowed for UU Open round 8 and RU Open round 7 onward.

2. Similar to this year's Smogon Classic, we're enforcing replays of the Opens to be made public from the quarter final round onward. Please include the replays of your games as you post your wins!

We are locking the tiers as they were when playoffs started for the remainder of playoffs. That means that the recently released tier changes will not apply for the remainder of Grand Slam.

Please challenge your RU games in the [Gen 7] OU format (Drought is allowed in RU, but banned in UU) and your NU games in the [Gen 7] RU format, as Rotom-Heat rose to UU and Ninetales rose to RU via the aforementioned tier changes. Drought is not allowed in your NU games, obviously.

RE: Ubers Open

The TD team has been investigating systematic and widespread cheating in this year's Ubers Open. The TD team has evidence that a group of users worked together to rig the tour, including entering multiple alts into the tour, playing games in call and deciding the outcome of the games prior to a set's conclusion. In the process of our investigation we have removed alts and found evidence that multiple finalists were involved in this scheme, as well as multiple users already banned from Smogon.

As a result, we will be voiding the results of Ubers Open and declaring it [No Winner]. In addition, we are tournament banning darrell1297 and Hydrra for 12 months. To prevent situations like this from occurring in the future, we've also strengthened our policy on proxy use during tournaments. Please note that this investigation is still ongoing, so we may have additional information in the future.

The overturned Ubers Open results do NOT impact the Grand Slam VII playoffs whatsoever.

In this specific case, there has also been a conversation going on among staff/admins since the moment the decision was announced regarding whether we should also forum ban the users in question (spoiler alert: almost certainly yes)

In a surprise to absolutely no one...

After going over this incident with staff and admins, based on the scope of the cheating involved here and its implications, Hydrra and darrell1297 have been permanently banned from Smogon.
