Gotcha! Magnezone Rules! [OU RMT]

My second team on this forum... And the star of this team is Magnezone... one of the best Special Sweepers in OU. Also, his ability, Magnet Pull, is the answer to those damn Scarfrachis out there, and BP Scizor, and Skarmory... that's why Magnezone is the coolest Steel Poke.

Excuse me for my poor grammar, i'm spanish ^^

And here we go!

In Depth...

235Smeargle.png

Pablo
MDP235.png

Smeargle@Choice Scarf
Ability: Own Tempo
EVs: 4 HP/252 Def/252 Spe
Jolly nature (+Spe, -Atk)
- Trick
- Spore
- Stealth Rock
- Rapid Spin

Why this pokemon?
I needed a lead who could do everything. Faster than the other leads, able to put SR on the field... and i had to select between Azelf and Smeargle.
I prefer Smeargle cause with him i never have SR on my side. How does it works?
First turn i use trick while the opponent uses taunt or SR. If he uses taunt, i switch into another pokemon. If he uses SR the show starts!

With SR up on my side i use Spore for the pokemon which comes, usually a sweeper ^^ Then i use Rapid Spin and I destroy those damn rocks, and, with the given EV's i can survive a new attack and put my own SR.

Threats (As a Lead): Scarf Jirachi, ES Dragonite, Scarf Heatran, Fake Out+Vacuum Wave Infernape

Gotcha'
MDP462.png

Magnezone@Leftovers
Ability: Magnet Pull
EVs: 172 HP/84 Spe/252 SpA
Modest nature (+SpA, -Atk)
- Substitute
- HP Grass
- Thunderbolt
- Signal Beam

Why this Pokemon?
The core of my team. With 12 resistances and 1 inmunity, Magnezone always find the moment to switch safely. Choice Pokemon like BP Scizor, Draco Meteor Latias or Iron Head Jirachi are useless against Magnezone.

In the switch of my rival, i use Substitute to ensure a hit. At least i can do some damage to the pokemon that comes. Thunderbolt is Magnezone's STAB attack that can do a lot of damage to non-resisted Pokemon. HP Grass over HP Ice cause Swampert is a common switch on Magnezone. And in the final moveslot, Signal Beam cause Celebi is a dangerous threat to my team.

Threats: Special Walls (Blissey, Snorlax), HP Fire Magnezone, Flygon, Tyranitar

073Tentacruel.png

Neptuno
MDP073.png

Tentacruel@Black Sludge
Ability: Liquid Ooze
EVs: 4 HP/252 Atk/252 Spe
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SpA)
- Swords Dance
- Substitute
- Waterfall
- Poison Jab

Why this Pokemon?
Toxic Spikes absorber, Leech Seed users' counter, and also a sweeper. Covering Fire+Fighting weakness of Magnezone, Tentacruel with SD is a surprise. Just one boosted Poison Jab can OHKO Gyarados after SR damage. Water+Poison gives excellent coverage, only resisted by Empoleon and Tentacruel in OU.

Threats: Swampert, Salamence, Jolteon... any faster electric Pokemon.

145Zapdos.png

Thunder
MDP145.png

Zapdos@Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 HP/252 Def/4 SpA
Bold nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Roar
- Thunderbolt
- HP Ice
- Roost

Why this Pokemon?
This mythological bird can wall Scizor with no problem and gives me an extra inmunity to Ground. Also i use Zapdos as a pseudo-hazer with Roar, nobody expects it.

I was looking for a Pokemon that could take care of dangerous beasts such as MixMence or DD Gyara. Main problem with Zapdos is Stone Edge and Stealth Rock. I need something that could wall Scizor (Magnezone fears Superpower) and that have access to an instant recovery move. So Zapdos comes to my mind.

Threats: Special Walls (Blissey, Snorlax), Magnezone, Tyranitar, any Pokemon with Stone Edge

237Hitmontop.png

Caipirinha
MDP237.png

Hitmontop@Leftovers
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252 HP/252 Atk/4 Def
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SpA)
- Fake Out
- Mach Punch
- Sucker Punch
- Close Combat

Why this Pokemon?
Better than Scizor. I needed a priority move user cause i have problems with late game sweepers, such as SD Lucario, NP Mixape, or DD Ttar. Close Combat to OHKO Blissey and other walls that can't be OHKOed by a Fake Out+Mach Punch.

Threats: Physical Walls (Skarmory, Weezing), Scizor, Gyarados, Zapdos

Mow%20Rotom.png

Miauw
MDP479.png

Rotom-C@Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP/252 SpA/252 Spe
Modest nature (+SpA, -Atk)
- Leaf Storm
- Shadow Ball
- Thunderbolt
- Trick

Why this pokemon?
I think that best rotom form is with no doubt Rotom-H. But with a Swampert weakness on my team, Rotom-C is the best choice. Scarf Rotom outspeeds +1 Gyara, and other dangerous threats such as other Rotom.

Trick is for Blissey and Snorlax, two of the most common switches to Rotom.

Threats: Special Walls (Blissey, Snorlax), Magnezone, Scarf Latias, Scarf Gengar

That's all. I was thinking about using a more bulky Hitmontop to be the best Ttar counter, and i don't know if Toxic Spikes is a better choice on Tentacruel than Substitute.

Please RMT!

Threat List

212.png
Scizor - Oh please... With a x5 resistance to Bug and a Steel trapper, Scizor has nothing to do
380.png
Latias - This thing should be uber... Well, Choice versions are handled by Magnezone+Tentacruel combo, and CM Latias are a pain in the ass if Trick Rotom is dead... Sucker Punch Hitmontop is the best choice
248.png
Tyranitar - Hitmontop is one of the best Ttar counters in the game. Leaf Storm Rotom is a 2HKO on the damn beast
376.png
Metagross - Rotom 2HKOes him with Thunderbolt. Magnezone for the Choice versions.
130.png
Gyarados - DD Gyara can be stopped by Rotom, that's the reason why i'm thinking to put a scarf on Rotom. Zapdos and Magnezone can survive and kill him with Thunderbolt.
227.png
Skarmory - Always that i catch a Skarmory with Magnezone i say "Gotcha!"
485.png
Heatran - Scarfed Heatran can be walled by my Tentacruel+Zapdos combo. I have a trouble with Torment Tran, Roar Zapdos inmediately.
462.png
Magnezone - HP Fire scarfed Magnezone is the end of my own Magnezone. If Hitmontop is dead, Magnezone is a pain in the ass.
479.png
Rotom - My own Rotom can OHKO bulky versions. Scarfed Rotom is walled by Magnezone+Tentacruel
385.png
Jirachi - Magnezone, lol
448.png
Lucario - Zapdos if he has Crunch. Rotom if he carries Ice Punch.
121.png
Starmie - Sucker punch Hitmontop OHKOes the star.
482.png
Azelf - Read Starmie
392.png
Infernape - Best Mixape Counter=Tentacruel. Fake Out+Mach Punch Hitmontop is an OHKO.
242.png
Blissey - If i am smart, Trick Rotom is the best choice. Hitmontop and Tentacruel are my physical sweepers so they can handle with the nurse
437.png
Bronzong - Read Jirachi
251.png
Celebi - Signal Beam Magnezone. If celebi carries HP Fire, Shadow Ball Rotom OHKOes him.
260.png
Swampert - Rotom-c, HP Grass Zapdos.
407.png
Roserade - If she is a lead, i trick her onto Sleep Powder and i win a focus sash. Tentacruel absorbs the toxic spikes.
373.png
Salamence - Mixmence can be weakened by Hitmontop. HP Ice Zapdos OHKOes him.
094.png
Gengar - Scarfed versions are take down by Magnezone+Tentacruel. OHKOed by Rotom.
245.png
Suicune - I Have three electric pokemon. No possibility for Suicune to survive.
205.png
Forretress - Read Bronzong
134.png
Vaporeon - Read Suicune
145.png
Zapdos - If the bird is scarfed, Magnezone+Tentacruel combo. If it is a bulky version, trick rotom or my own Zapdos can do the rest
230.png
Kingdra - Fake Out+Mach Punch twice and no more Kingdra for the rest of the battle
142.png
Aerodactyl - When he is a lead, i trick him onto Taunt. Smeargle is the best!
472.png
Gliscor - Rotom and Zapdos OHKO him
473.png
Mamoswine - Fake Out+Mach Punch Hitmontop
143.png
Snorlax - I have problems with Curselax when he is the last pokemon. Trick Rotom or Mach Punch Hitmontop.
395.png
Empoleon - Hitmontop does the job
450.png
Hippowdon - HP Ice Zapdos, Leaf Storm Rotom, HP Grass Magnezone...
461.png
Weavile - Read Mamoswine.
135.png
Jolteon - Hitmontop. Magnezone if he has a choice item.
235.png
Smeargle - Speed tie with my own Smeargle
068.png
Machamp - Zapdos, Rotom and Tentacruel are the answer to this beast.
488.png
Cresselia - Rotom OHKOes her.
460.png
Abomasnow - Trick to Leech Seed versions. If Scarfed, Magnezone can 2HKO him with Signal Beam

I really doubt you need two rapid spinners, so replace Rapid Spin on Hitmontop with Close Combat or Stone Edge. For Tentacruel, Intimidaters will hurt, to fix this, I recommend you change Liquid Ooze to Clear Body, so your SD boosts aren't wasted. GL with your team.

I'd Put Scarf over Specs on your Rotom, because you don't really have a revenge killer for DD Gyara, because given a chance, that thing would rip through your team.
If you don't want to do that, change Hitmontop for the simple Technitop scheme (similar to yours)
TechniTop

Life Orb / Leftovers ABILITY
Technician
NATURE:
Adamant
MovesetEVs~ Fake Out
~ Close Combat / Revenge
~ Mach Punch
~ Bullet Punch / Stone Edge
252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def
With its Array of physical Priority attacks, Hitmontop will beat alot of things to "The Punch" ...Oh geez that pun was awful. Hope I helped

I definitely remember facing this team although i cannot remember what happened (except that you trapped my jirachi lead). First of all, I dont see the reason for rapid spin on Smeargle as you already have a reliable spinner in Hitmontop. Can I sugggest maybe another entry hazard of your own (spikes), or perhaps explosion or destiny bond for a cheap KO?

Another thing - does Muscle band grant your Hitmontop any notable KOs? I would recommend leftovers due to hitmontop's decent defenses. Speaking of defenses, you definitely want 252 HP EVs, not defense EVs, because Hitmontop has a terrible base HP, and his defense is good. this way he also acts a a decent special wall.

If you used the standard toxic spiker Tentacruel set, this would pair excellently with a Sub Roost Zapdos (which is capable of stalling out Tyranitar's Stone Edge.) This would also help with your worries about Swampert, who is effectively crippled by Toxic Spikes, freeing you up to use your favourite Rotom forme (recommending either a defensive or Scarf set.) Although this would turn your team into a kind of stall team, I really think that is would work - thinking about what is immune to toxic spikes - steels(dealt with by magnezone) and fliers, who are hit hard by Zapdos. The main problem I could see here would be latias- seeing as you have nothing that can reliably take a draco meteor, although I suppose you can force it out with hitmontop (sucker punch).

Lastly , if you do keep your Tentacruel as a swords dancer, you should denifinitely change its ability to clear body to deal with intimidators (I doubt you can actually KO a Gyarados because of this. And also, I wouldn't recommend mixing of the two sets bacause tentacruel does not have the bulk to set up toxic spikes AND sweep) If the rest of your team stays the same, you should NOT change your hitmontop set to a more defensive one (that is moveset and attack EVs) either because you would lack an effective revenge killer and will be swept by all manner of things

edit: having just read your threat list, I should add that bronzong is certainly not dealt with magnezone unless it has a choice item tricked onto it or does not have earthquake( Forretress may also be the same, although I'm not sure how much thunderbolt does (OHKO with stealth rock, sorry)
edit 2: despite the post below this I really do not think this team is in any way weak to any Lucario set. Also this team takes blissey fine as well so I feel it is not necessary to switch to Gyarados. If you decide to move towards stall with multiple entry hazards (which I recommend) then zapdos is much more effective, particularly with the subroost set, which I strongly recommend you look up in the analysis if you haven't already. It also features in an excellent warstory by Reyscarface and Mizuno
Overall though, nice team - some of the sets just need adjusting. Good luck

At the glance, I see a large weakness to swords dance lucario. Also, you NEVER want to have blissey as a big defensive threat. It would be just like having a scizor weakness. To solve your lucario weakness, I would recommend changing Zapdos to Gyarados. Change it to the bulky varient:

156 HP / 72 Atk / 96 Def / 184 Spe
Adamant
-Dragon dance
-Waterfall
-Taunt / Roar / Earthquake
-Return / Bounce / Stone Edge

This set works wonders at breaking stall using the move Taunt. If I feel like you need Roar, then feel free to use it over Taunt. Return can be changed to bounce if you like the paralysis rate and the chance to flinch. Stone edge is always a good option, but often looked down as it has poor accuracy. Bulky Gyarados will also help your team against blissey. Taunt stops it cold. A Taunted Blissey IS the ultimate set-up fodder. Gyarados will also counter Scizor, which is the role that Zapdos plays.

I recommend changing Rapid Spin on Smeargle to Spikes. This is because, Rapid spin is useless on it. Also, if your sleeping opponent decides to stay in, you might be able to get a layer of spikes up. This can be a huge help later on.

Lalalala... Tentacruel! I would STRONGLY RECOMMEND PUTTING RAPID SPIN ON HIM! This is because Tentacruel is one of the best rapid spinners out there. Substitute can be replaced by rapid spin.

If you did chose to replace Substitute or something with rapid spin, Change Hitmontop to this:

252 atk/4def/252 spe
Adamant
Technition
-Fake Out
-Mach Punch
-Close Combat
-Sucker Punch

This will allow Hitmontop to kill some of OUs largest threats, including Lucario, Tyrantiar, And Latias.

Nice, Interesting team. Good job!

Thank you guys for RMT! ^^

A few things:
1.- @jc104: Forretress is OHKOed after SR damage by Thunderbolt Magnezone, so he is not a problem. If Bronzong carries EQ, is handled by Rotom and Zapdos

2.- I still have a Magnezone weakness... that's the reason i'm thinking about using LO hitmontop to achieve the OHKO on Zone. So i'm gonna try to use Life Orb.

3.- Gyarados could be a good Zapdos replacement. What about this moveset?
156 HP / 72 Atk / 96 Def / 184 Spe
Adamant
@Leftovers
-Earthquake
-Waterfall
-Roar
-Bounce

The problem with Gyarados is that he hasn't got an instant recovery move. To make him more bulky, should i use Rest-Talk version?

4.- CC over Rapid Spin on Hitmontop ^^

Thanks in advance!

There's definetly a lot of potential to get in some killer entry hazards here, with Tentacruel running Tspikes and Smeargle running spikes. I reccomend you try to get those hazards up, because with those combinations in tandem with Top's priority moves and Zone's Skarm-trapping/Rotom-C's blocking/removal of swampert/Hippowdon due to HP Grass and Leaf Storm, you have a chance to use him as a priority sweeper late game.

For this reason, maybe you want to experiment with using a Life Orb on him?

Also. if you change Zapdos to Gyarados as the poster above suggested, you have access to double intimidate.

I suppose you can run that set. But if you do, erase the speed EVs since you have no use of them, as you have Roar. I'll just put the speed EVs in HP so It'll be maxed out, which gives you a defensive advantage

EDIT: YES! The rest talk gyarados, I shouldv'e posted that instead. You may use that if you wish :P

-iShedinja

Cool team but I would really push for close combat over rapid spin on your hitmantop. Mainly because if Blissey is a problem you need to be able to Ko it in a pinch. I also like the idea of bulky gyra to reduce lucarios ability to sweep your team. Also run choice scarf over choice specs on your rotom so you can Ko gyra and put some hurt on salamence who resists your main sweepers quite well when use correctly.
