Giratina origin forme (discussion thread)

Yeah. I'd probably just go with max SA / Spd Timid for that set, since you aren't going to be tanking anything without any form of recovery

306 Speed is pretty slow but you can probably outrun everything not scarfed in the base 90 speed category + Adamant Rayquazas

forretress+giratina would be a sick combo in OU. both resist each others weaknesses while one spikes and one blocks RS. giratina would also wall fighters like nothing else ever did (perfect infernape counter?)
 
Lol this thing is not going to be OU. I see quite a bit of potential on this thing despite my disappointment of it only being able to hold one item. It will destroy everything in OU, despite things learning Outrage and whatnot.

What you need to do to separate this from the Another Forme Giratina is to captialize on its power. Get your offensive stat well above 328 if you're sticking to one spectrum so that you won't be outclassed. Or at least that's the way I see it at the moment. You'd probably still want to stick to Another forme for Spite/Will-o-Wisp or whatever, though, because the extra power isn't worth the loss in Defenses, and the fact that Another Forme can just run a ton of attack and use Leftovers.

Someone test Origin Giratina on WiFi/link battles now. I'm pretty sure you can since the video (Dialga vs Giratina) did show that it's possible. Ugh and I just noticed that it was indeed holding an item :(

Wait, local as in union room or local as in the battle center or whatever its called (lady at the right)? Because if the testing was done in the Union Room, it would make sense that it would fail as the Union Room is designed to also receive communication from D/P while you're in it. But local on the battle side doesn't :(

It does that even for Platinum vs Platinum matches?

Man, what the hell was Gamefreak/Nintendo thinking with the new formes. :(
 
I think you can, at least that's what Serebii says. However, it did say it would not work if you are battling Diamond or Pearl. This would need to get verified. If origin forme is not compatable on WiFi, I see really no reason in getting this game.
 
Curse Bibarel, Bullet Punch Scizor and Elemental Punch Tutors are good enough reasons, imo, but that's just me.

Actually you need 339 SA min to guarantee a 2HKO against 6 HP / Max SDef Calm Blissey with a STABed base 95 move. Lol

Well, if you look at it this way:

Platinum Orb gives Giratina a 20% boost on its STAB attacks and Ground Immunity. (At the expense of Pressure, I suppose)

I imagine it is also immune to Knock Off and Trick like Plates on Arceus.

Too bad the only thing that commonly uses Ground attacks in Ubers is Groudon, but whatever.

Will-O-Wisp, Calm Mind, Dragon Pulse, and Shadow Ball should neuter pretty much everything in Ubers. Metagross can't do anything of significance when burned, Blissey's strongest option is Toxic or Thunder Wave.

That Giratina was hacked into the game and did not hold a Platinum Orb. Due to the hacking, it was able to stay as Origin Forme outside of battles, but reverted as soon as it came out of its Poké Ball.

A non-hacked Giratina holding the Platinum Orb will never revert unless interaction with another game is involved.

I hope that Clear and Jibaku can test Platinum-Platinum Wi-Fi battles. All the other testers either conducted battles involving a Diamond/Pearl cartridge, or performed the test on the Wi-Fi server before the game's official release. It was far from exhaustive, if to say the least.
 
I think Shadow Force deserves another look just because it has 50 more BP over Shadow Claw even if it requires a charge-up turn.

His other Dragon type moves are also resisted by Steel, so if you are using Ghost/Dragon as your attacking combo, you still get walled anyway.

Anyway a resisted Shadow Force still has 90BP, boosted to 108BP if the orb adds a 20% boost, which is quite reasonable considered to neutral 95BP moves.
 
I tried knock off on Origin Forme in a 2on2 battle. He stays in the forme, when I knocked off another item however I noticed there was a change in text.

So I'll see if Griatina still gets the boost from the item even after it getting "knocked off".

Nothing. The attack hits, but the item is not Knocked Off. Similiar to Arceus' Sticky Hold type effect.

The move fails. In the case of Thief and Covet, the item cannot be stolen. Snatch does not still items so that has no bearing on the matter.

Giratina (with Trick hacked onto it) cannot Trick the orb onto another Pokemon either.

It is also worthy to note that Giratina is the only Pokemon capable of holding the Platinum Orb. Giratina MUST be holding the orb in order to be in Origin forme.

Giratina cannot be forced to transform back into "Another Forme" during battle.

set looks good, but wouldn't Lonely be preferred with all the Thunders going around?
 
Imo this thing is gonna suck. Its too strong for ou and too weak for ubers in my opinion.

Its limited sweeping ability say ou but his 150 hp base stats and 90 def and sdef is just to much coupled with ghost types and levitate for some immunities and the dragon type which we all know has like 80 bazilion resistances.
 
Origin Giratina will not suck. It's potential hasn't really been discovered yet. Who knows? Knock Off and Trick immunity and Levitate might mean something here. While its offensive stats only lie in 120, he's got some pretty strong moves such as Outrage and has access to STAB Shadow Ball. Sure, one item is a really horrible decision by GF (and I'm still disappointed), but I'm sure we all can live with it and find a way to make this thing just about as threatening as the old Giratina (well, in a different level, of course).

Oh and he has base 100 Defenses.
