Slate 9: We've been~ fighting our demons just to stay afloat~
{Aquatic Slate}
:SV/Bellibolt::SV/Lumineon::SV/Crabominable:

The most abundant of all types, to the point someone said there was too much water. The ways you can encounter these Pokemon are also varied, you can Surf, you can Dive, and you can fish them up. Just try not to drown!

Rules:
  • For this free slate, the mandatory flavour criteria is that your submission(s) are among the options utilised by Fishers, Free Divers/Scuba Divers or Swimmers/Triathletes; the vast majority of these Trainer classes specialise in Water-types, though to loosen the creative restraints, I'm also permitting any submission that belongs to one of three Water egg-groups, with an example of each as seen above. As usual, failure to include proper explanations will automatically disqualify your submission.
  • Regional forms/Evolutions (ex. :Zigzagoon-Galar: :Linoone-Galar: :Obstagoon::Wooper-Paldea: :Clodsire:), ecological similar Pokemon (ex.:Toedscool::Toedscruel:), and cross-gen additions to existing two-stage Pokémon evolution lines such as Baby Pokémon or new-stage evolutions (ex.:Azurill: :Annihilape:) are permitted.
  • While submissions in every free slate have a hard BST limit of 550, you should not be intentionally aiming at or above this threshold unless you have both valid competitive handicaps and flavour justifications for your intended sub. (ex. :Slaking: :Archeops:) The BST average of the vast majority of final evolutions and/or single stages tends to peak around 525, so this is the power level you should realistically aim below.
  • Pseudo-Legendaries (ex. :Dragapult::Goodra-Hisui:) and Exceptional Evolutions (ie. :Archaludon:) cannot be submitted until their designated slate, which will likely be one of the final slates.
Name: Subs with no given name are ineligible to be voted.
Counterpart(s) / Evolutionary Members: Write the names of the previous stage or counterparts of the Pokemon, if applicable. For pre-evos, instead write the evolution method.
Typing: Remember to respect the rules of the ongoing slate; you may use these link for images: https://play.pokemonshowdown.com/sprites/types/Type.png.
Ability: Ability 1 / Ability 2 | Hidden Ability
Base Stats: HP / Atk / Def / SpA / SpD / Spe (BST) These can be written in any configuration you want, the important thing is that it also fits with slate-specific and general rules. New pre-evolutions’ BST have to be lower than the original, while evolutions’ BST is usually higher; for regional or convergent forms, their BST must match.
Height + Weight: How tall the Pokémon is in Meters (m) + how heavy the Pokémon is in Kilograms (kg). While the former is optional, the latter is required for weight-based moves.
Notable Moves: List the moves that this Pokémon will learn, both viable and flavor moves, though the former is more important. Once your submission is voted in, you will create a full movepool for it in the discussion phase.
Flavor (Required): Describe the lore/flavor/design of your Pokémon, why is it found here in Brunica? What connection does it have to Canada?
*Custom Elements:
Name: Try to use distinct combinations of words never used before for moves in Pokémon games, double-check on Showdown or Serebii.
Power: [Base Power of the Move, should be a multiple of 5]
Type: https://play.pokemonshowdown.com/sprites/types/Type.png
Category: https://play.pokemonshowdown.com/sprites/categories/Category.png (Physical, Special or Status)
Base Power: try to balance this, PP, effect and accuracy; only multiples of 5 are allowed as values.
Accuracy: write -- if it ignores accuracy and evasion checks; must be multiple of 5
Power Points: specify just the max PP if you want; eligible values are 1, 8, 16, 24, 32, 48, 64.
Effect: What the move does, including how many targets. Note that while custom elements are allowed, they should be distinct from already existing abilities/moves introduced as of SV and/or Desvega, and are relatively simple to code (Which means no more custom field effects, we just introduced a new (Poison) terrain in Desvega and a 'Primal Reversion' terrain in Lutakon. Also, if you think it's codable but the coding team disagrees, then you'd better be prepared to code it yourself if it wins.)
Priority: (Optional) The priority bracket of the move. Unless specified, it is assumed to have the standard priority of 0.
Flags (ex: Contact, Sound): [Specify which flags the move has. A full list can be found in the spreadsheet.]
Distribution: Specify if the move is exclusive to a particular evolutionary line; otherwise, list the criteria of Pokémon that are eligible to receive the submitted move.
Justification: If this is adjusted from an existing move, explain why it should be changed, both competitive AND flavour wise. Note that any changes you propose will carry to the Move you suggested only, not to any similar Moves. On that note, be sure that it is not similar to any existing Move introduced in any Generation X iteration or up to SV, otherwise it will be vetoed.

Can Be Removed (Yes or No): (Specify whether or not the item can be stolen or Knocked Off)
Ignored by Klutz (Yes or No): (Specify whether or not the item's effect is ignored by Klutz)
Fling Power & Effect: (The BP of Fling when used with this item and what secondary effect it could additionally have, like :Light Ball: causing paralysis)

As previously noted, for every free slate such as this comes more regional dex nominations. You may additionally nominate up to two existing non-legendary nor mythical Pokemon families introduced in the mainline games or in a previous Gen X iteration as part of the initial "pre-dlc" regional dex. Counterparts (:Passimian::Oranguru:) and regional exclusive evos (:Mr. Rime::Clodsire:) serve as two distinct lines, other regional forms (:Marowak-Alola::Stunfisk-Galar::Tauros-Paldea:) count as one. Their final stages (or if they are a single stage) can additionally undergo adjustments to be buffed (if you feel they are undervalued) or nerfed (if you feel they are overpowered), just like a certain Pet Mod... [This serves akin to balance buffs as done by GF, such as :Rotom: forms becoming different from Electric/Ghost, :Gallade: getting Sharpness, :Shiftry: swapping Early Bird for Wind Rider, :Slowking: getting Chilly Reception, :Mantine: gaining +20 HP, and of course, :Aegislash: losing -20 to its BST. No, this is not us treading new ground, :Scovillain: was the forerunner to this idea.]
Name: [Name of the Pokémon]
Type: For mono-type Pokemon, you may either add or change the current type to another type, not both. For dual-type Pokemon, one of their original types must remain.
Stats
: Each stat change must be a multiple of 10. Up to a 20 point change from the original BST is permitted; the Pokemon is entitled to a buff if its BST is 470 or below; it is otherwise entitled to a nerf if its BST is 500 or above.
Abilities: For Pokemon with two Abilities, you may add another. For Pokemon with three, you are permitted to swap out one of their existing abilities. Ability changes are not permitted on a Pokemon with one singular Ability. Alternatively, you can rework one of their existing Abilities provided it has not already been reworked by someone else already. See the Ability template above.
Moves Changes: Up to four moves may be added and removed, adding to a total of eight moves. Alternatively, you can rework one of the moves they can learn, provided it has not already been subject to a rework already. See the template above.
Justification: [Explain in detail (as in, more than two sentences for each point) on why these changes should be added, both competitive AND flavour wise. Lack of either will disqualify the adjustment from being slated.]

This slate will last for at least 168 hours, and may be extended or reduced depending on forum activity.

Name: Aleviar & Cuttrout
Moves Changes: +Autotomize, + Ice Spinner, + Throat Chop, + Fillet Away* [Now +2 boost to Atk, SpA & Spe for 1/3 of the user's max HP, rounded up}
Justification: Autotomize was part of the original movepool, but the coding team overlooked it. It already has Rapid Spin, so Ice Spinner isn't a stretch. Throat Chop is in the vein of Barraskewda. As for the Fillet Away rework, it's slightly better than Clangorous Soul, but still weaker than Belly Drum that still preserves the ideal of the move.

Name: Salmini & Salmomega
Move Changes: ...looks like I'll be fleshing out yet another unfulfilled movepool from Desvega.
Name: Antiqualik (Tiktaalik + Antiquity + Aqua)
Counterpart(s) / Evolutionary Members: Level up from Relicanth while knowing Terra Charge.
Typing: Water / Ground
Ability: Battle Tide / Rock Head | Sturdy
Base Stats: 100 / 110 / 130 / 50 / 70 / 75 (535)
Height + Weight: 2.8m + 46.8 kg
Notable Moves: Aqua Tail, Wave Crash, Scald, Surf, Hydro Pump, Rain Dance, Earthquake, Terra Charge, Mud Shot, Earth Power, Smack Down, Rock Slide, Stone Edge, Head Smash, Meteor Beam, Stealth Rock, Ice Spinner, Ice Beam, Blizzard, Scale Shot, Breaking Swipe, Dragon Tail, Outrage, Dragon Pulse, Body Press, Iron Head, Iron Tail, Flash Cannon, Iron Defense, Super Fang
Flavor (Required): Based on the tiktaalik, first unearthed in Northern Canada which served as the transitional fossil between swimming fish to four-legged vertebrates. The tiktaalik is a lobe-finned fish, an animal which we (technically) have two examples of in Pokemon: the :Fossilized Fish: and :Relicanth:, so here's the logical leap where some relicanith helped diversify the Water egg groups.

Eelektrik-Brunica
Typing: Electric / Ground
Ability: Grounding*
Base Stats: 40 / 70 / 85 / 70 / 75 / 65
Height + Weight: 1.2 m + 22.0kg
Flavor (Required): Brunica's lore mentions that its neighbouring region is Unova, so I feel obligated to make at least one variant of a Unovan mon. Based additionally on the Silver lamprey, ironsand and perhaps the American Iron & Metal Company Inc. (which despite its name is Canadian), the Eelektrik were not used to the cold of the Brunica region, which made them lethargic to the point they risked losing their electric-producing capabilities. They managed to resolve this by dwelling in deeper ground and feeding upon the minerals within Brunica's groundwater, developing the Ground-type over generations as a consequence.

Eelektross-Brunica
Typing: Electric / Ground
Ability: Grounding*
Base Stats: 50 / 85 / 110 / 75 / 110 / 85
Height + Weight: 2.3m + 90.5 kg
Notable Moves: Thunder Punch, Wild Charge, Supercell Slam, Volt Switch, Thunderbolt, Thunder, Thunder Wave, Dig, Earthquake, Earth Power, Power-Up Punch, Drain Punch, Focus Blast, Aqua Tail, Surf, Coil, Pursuit, Knock Off, Throat Chop, Super Fang
Flavor (Required): As they strived for larger quantities of Brunica's minerals, Brunican Eelektross's finned head limb has taken on serrated edges and protruding spikes have grown on their arms. The result is them invading Brunica's mines, which in turn brought along the use of Ponyta to haul away deposits before the Eelektross could drill away.
*Custom Elements
Name: Grounding
Effect: When the Pokémon is grounded, it can inflict paralysis on any Pokemon even if they're an Electric-type, as well as damage Ground-type Pokémon with Electric-type moves.
Permanent (Yes or No): No
Ignorable (Yes or No): No
Distribution: Brunican Eelektrik line, Ground-dwelling Pokemon that have electric capabilities.

Common/Johtonian and Lorian Yanma lines both return, with both untouched. I could see Yanmega running a Ground Balm with HP Ground to mitigate the grave Rock weakness and complement its Flying STAB, though the tradeoff is a crippling Ice weakness as long as it remains on the field. As for the Lorian line, the dragonfly species they're based on can also be found throughout Canada, with New Brunswick on the east coast just as Florida is. While I could see that line getting Skitter Smack and Psychic Noise on account of the common variant getting those in SV, Brunica offers neither as a TM nor a Tutor move.
:shellos-east::gastrodon-east::dragonium-z:
This line is based on the Blue Dragon slug, which the original post bearing Brunica's concept cited as potentially fitting for the region.

Flavor (Required):
Shellos (Brunican Variant), the Sea Slug Pokémon
"The Shellos of Brunica have developed draconic traits and diverged from its East Sea variant. The ooze characteristic of most Shellos is laced with the poison from the food this variant eats."

A dark blue variant of the East Sea Shellos with a color scheme similar to that of the (common) Finneon line. The "flaps" along its back now point downward and split into plenty of tendrils. In addition its body is also a bit longer and slimmer. I imagine its color scheme serves as good camouflage when more dangerous mons such as Akulut draw near.

Ability: Sticky Hold / Poison Point | Dazzling
Base Stats: 111 / 73 / 68 / 92 / 92 / 39 (475 BST) (-10Atk, +10SpD from common variant)

Flavor (Required):
Gastrodon (Brunican Variant), the Dragon Slug Pokémon
"As Gastrodon has two variants far more common than this one, its discovery has led to worldwide intrigue. Unlike other Gastrodon, anything this variant's ooze binds to is likely to be stung in seconds and paralyzed soon after. "

Similar color scheme to its prevo, it's also slightly longer and thinner, though the appendages along its underside now spread into clusters of tendrils, which sting and paralyze its prey, in addition to growing a tail. The folds it prevo had now face upward and are reminiscent of wings.

Competitive Niche: Tank with a good amount of special bulk. Sticky Hold helps it easily sponge KOffs like a champ, though keep in mind that Ice and Ground are both dangers against it in addition to Psychic and Dragon.

Flavor: Scubank is basically a tiny Scuba Tank (Which was patented in New Brunswick) with small bulbous feet and a white visor for an eye. It commonly appears in beaches, and will rush to anyone that is drowning to try and fill them with oxygen, saving their lives. However, it is actually a very poor swimmer.

Notable Moves: Acrobatics, Power Whip, Tackle, Iron Defense, Water Gun, Aqua Ring, Metal Claw, Bubble Beam, Aqua Jet, Dive, Metal Sound, Mist, Liquidation, Metal Burst, Power Trick, Rain Dance, Snowscape, Taunt, Ice Beam, Blizzard, Reflect, Light Screen, Helping Hand, Scald, Zen Headbutt, Iron Head, U-Turn, Flash Cannon, Surf, Waterfall, Freeze-Dry, Icy Wind, Hydro Pump, Hyper Voice, Imprison, Knock Off, Magnet Rise, Snatch, Steel Roller, Water Pulse, Take Down, Hidden Power, Protect, Frustration, Return, Double Team, Facade, Rest, Attract, Natural Gift, Sleep Talk, Snore, Substitute, Steel Beam
Flavor: When Oxydive evolves, it ditches it's legs as the scuba tank, which now has a bright blue wave pattern on the bottom, becomes it's lower half. On the top of this scuba tank is a white body with two white hoses serving as arms, and wearing a black diver's helmet on the top. A Pokémon with a love for exploration and rescue, you'll often find Oxydive diving deep underwater, searching for treasure...as long as it is attached to another Pokémon to provide them with oxygen like a scuba tank: In reality, this Pokémon is still bad at swimming. People once used them in lieu of actual scuba tanks: With the hoses providing oxygen, you could spend an infinite amount of time underwater! Because of this, it's the perfect partner for someone new at swimming, because they won't have to worry about surfacing for air anymore.

Weight (Scuba Form): 1293.34 lbs.
Notable Moves: Suit Call, Calm Mind, Dragon Claw, Psychic, Psyshock, Shadow Ball, Focus Blast, Dark Pulse, Dazzling Gleam, Ice Punch, Hyper Beam, Giga Impact, Acrobatics, Power Whip, Tackle, Iron Defense, Water Gun, Aqua Ring, Metal Claw, Bubble Beam, Aqua Jet, Dive, Metal Sound, Mist, Liquidation, Metal Burst, Power Trick, Rain Dance, Snowscape, Taunt, Ice Beam, Blizzard, Reflect, Light Screen, Helping Hand, Scald, Zen Headbutt, Iron Head, U-Turn, Flash Cannon, Surf, Waterfall, Freeze-Dry, Icy Wind, Hydro Pump, Hyper Voice, Imprison, Knock Off, Magnet Rise, Snatch, Steel Roller, Water Pulse, Take Down, Hidden Power, Protect, Frustration, Return, Double Team, Facade, Rest, Attract, Natural Gift, Sleep Talk, Snore, Substitute, Steel Beam
Flavor: Upon fully evolving, Alexarius's body completely changes! From a small white body with a blue centre, a long black stick extends from the bottom of it, a giant scuba tank with a white pattern decorating the bottom. On either side of the body are shoulder guards with this same wave pattern, with two water cannons being attached to them. On it's back are a pair of scuba tanks, and blue hoses connect the water cannons to both them and it's white head, which has two beady eyes. Although it's just as a poor swimmer as ever, it is a very kind Pokémon that helps provide oxygen to those in need. By spraying them out of their water cannons, they can help a person in need survive underwater for an infinite amount of time until the rescue team arrives. As such, it's a favorite among the rescue team themselves, as it can help people survive underwater while the rest of the team gets their equipment ready in case they cannot be pulled out.
However, if it wants to go underwater, or it is backed into a corner, it will call forth it's Scuba Form, a giant diver's suit that kind of resembles Bioshock's Daddy, and drawing inspiration from PVZ Garden Warfare's Imp and his Z-Mech. From a round body with the cockpit in the middle, it has two long legs with blue boots, and two arms attached to scuba tanks, one of which has a crane claw attached to it. By going inside this special suit, Alexarius can gather buried treasure from hard to reach places, and defend itself against enemy attacks. However, it never hoards the treasure itself, always giving it to those in need. Alexarius will sometimes even let other people use it's suit, allowing them to explore the deepest of oceans. No-one knows where the suit comes from, though, as it just falls from the skies whenever Alexarius calls it: Some say it is a gift from the rain itself.

Flavor: This rather crazy Brown Booby Pokémon resembles one to an extent, although with a long beak, glasses that resemble that of Super Mario's Kamek, and a fez with a question mark on it. (Fezes are cool) It is literally quite unpredictable, as it's behaviour changes every second. Even it's predators are driven to craziness upon seeing it, as they cannot form a strategy to counter Impossibool's attacks. No scientist has ever been able to determine it's behavior, beyond the fact that it might have something to do with it's constantly changing types, which is a result of it's very unstable DNA. Some people claim that Impossibool represents craziness itself, and thus people have often researched it's behavior patterns and used them to identify certain effects in insanity.

Flavor: In Native American legend, Lelawala was a beautiful maiden of the peaceful tribe of the Iroquois that was venturing in waterfalls one day, but happened to fall out of her canoe. The thunder god Hé-no then saved her, as Hé-no was the one who lived behind the falls. At the time, her canoe was broken so Hé-no offered to build a new one. On the day he finished building the canoe, a huge snake with venom so powerful it could kill a whole village, was headed towards the village of Lelawala, but Hé-no then threw a lightning bolt at the snake. The snake landed on top of the falls, creating the curved shape of Horseshoe Falls.
In addition to this legend, Lymerin draws inspiration from the Rainbow Smelt, Mermaids, and Monty Python's Fish Slapping Dance. It is a brash and childish Pokémon that will happily slap anything that comes it's way, but it's main highlight is it's special form change. By using a Key Item called the Tidal Pearl, Lymerin's top or bottom halves can change between one of two forms, for a total of four combinations:
First, there are the maiden parts. The top half consists of a light blue body with blue arms, with a round head on top with cyan hair coming from it and a symbol on that hair that resembles the shape of a fish. This half focuses on attacking. The bottom half consists of a long dress with wave patterns on it, with cyan bubbles on either side of it: hidden underneath the dress are long legs with cyan tips on the bottom that it uses for kicking. This half focuses on Physical attacks.
Then, there are the fish parts: The top half resembles a realistic fish with a cyan fin coming from the back of it's head: A blue stripe decorates it's body. This half focuses on defence. The bottom half consists of a long mermaid's tail with a cyan fin on the end of it. This half focuses on Special Attacks.
Regardless of it's form, Lymerin is a favourite among oceanologists, as it makes sure that the underwater area around it is as perfect as can be, as it hates dirt and will destroy any trace of it. As such, it's also a favorite among environmentalists, as it can help clear out plastic rubbish in the ocean.

Flavor: This Pokémon is based off one of the most famous Canadian Sea monsters, the Ogopogo. The monster was said to able to move at incredible speeds, coiling its body in vertical undulations, and propel itself with a powerful tail, so it's only fitting that this Pokémon's lower half resembles a pogo stick. Green scales run down from a lighter scale neck to this pogo-stick like tail, which has two fins at either side that serve as the handles. It is normally a predator that catches foes off guard by jumping itself high in the sky before landing where they'd least expect it. Those that PogoPogo can trust can ride on it like a real pogo stick, allowing them to reach places where they couldn't reach before.

Justification: This rework draws from the fact that they could be traded for the Weather TMs in Diamond and Pearl, and is designed to add more items that support the weather. In particular, you may find that like in Hoenn, some of the Fish Pokémon in Brunica may be holding a shard.

Ability: Swift Swim | Magic Guard
Base Stats: 20/15/20/10/55/80 (200)
Weight: 22.0 lbs.
Notable Moves: Splash, Tackle, Expanding Force, Bounce, Hydro Pump
Flavor: The Magikarp of Brunica, unable to contend with other predators, fled to the more peaceful waters that were filled with magic beyond their imagination. Taking inspiration from the Rainbow Trout and gaining much more smoother fins and calm eyes, this new Magikarp with a perchant of exploration....is still the most weak and pathetic Pokémon in the world. But still, artists who catch them are easily inspired by it's prismatic scales. Supposedly, it became a lot more specialized after adapting, as it hates dirty water unlike it's regular counterpart.

Flavor: With the lakes they call home being so calm, there was no need for the Magikarps there to evolve into Gyarados...instead, taking inspiration from the Rainbow Fish book, they become longer, wider Magikarps with scales in all sorts of colors: In fact, it's a favorite among artists because it is said to have every color that there is on it's scales . Their whiskers also move to the side of their now closed eyes. However, that does not mean they should be underestimated: If this Pokémon's psychic powers are unleashed, such as if it's fellow Magikarp are in danger, it can make people from over 100 miles away lose their minds: This is also the only time it's eyes actually open. Often, it migrates not to look for warmer places to live, but out of curiosity, to see which areas are the best for it to live in. People who follow Arcakarp are said to have a bountiful adventure waiting for them. For some reason, it does not get along well with Milotic.

First of sub review, questionable things are red, veto-worthy things are additionally bolded:
Brunican Shellos, Brunican Gastrodon
I had a pseudo-legendary concept about the blue dragon slug; if this one doesn't make it through, I call dibs by that slate. Anyways, this Gastrodon trades in a fantastic defensive typing and water immunity-based boost for a priority & poison immunity.
Scubank, Oxydive & Alexarius; Impossibool; Lymerin; Aplodrum; Relition, Friention, Couration, Knowletion, Despetion, Sincetion, Hopetion & Lovelition
Deep divers: Gills has a niche effect and name, putting aside that most status moves already aren't blocked by most protection moves, the line has no status moves that don't care if is Water-type or not. Suit Call's effect is specific to one form, and doesn't help in the other one.
Innuendo Bird: Unpredictable is the type-based version of Moody. Kaidescope is niche in effect.
Mer: At last there is a mermaid that has the fish head and human bottom. I cannot figure out why Fishslap is a fighting move, and even then Wake-Up Slap seems to already fill the niche.
Drummer Fish: 'Single-stage' fish typically don't see much competitive use, and this one shares the same flaws. Liquify's effect at the moment seems a bit broken, I would recommend its effect instead match as a Water-type Electrify instead. Posidean drum, with Aplodrum's stats, might make it seem like an alright Special wall, but the Heal Block is going to make it not a very effective one. The Shards, despite your intentions, will unlikely be held by mons of weather teams, but it's nice to see they (potentially) have a in-battle use.
Eevee evos: I might not speak for the majority, but I belong to the camp that don't think that the Eeveelutions need a evo. Additionally, with the exception of Relition, I can't quite picture that any of the trainer classes listed in the slate rules would use the others.

For Nominations, while there isn't an issue with Sleeping Pulse's effect, the name does unfortunately make non-exclusivity rather awkward. Northern Collapse does have an issue regarding its BP, which is that it should be 1.5x of the move it is converted from and not have its own variable BP chart. As for the Pidgey line, while it's not an issue, you are removing the parts of Pidgeot that qualify it as an Early Route Bird, and even with your proposed adjustments, it's not going to function as Sun Support any better than Talonflame, the actual Fire/Flying Early Route bird.

Flavor: This bipedal, anthropomorphic gray-blue cleaner shrimp has a white torso like a sailor's shirt, dark blue stripes separating it from the pincer-limbs and its lower body (with two skinny, Pawniard-like legs and a shrimpy tail behind) suggesting the stripes on the edges of said shirt. The top of its head is white with a pointed front tip suggesting both the pointed headplate of a shrimp or lobster and a sailor's hat, the actual face being light blue with large, solid black eyes with white centers set on short stalks. Its tiny, slender pincers are also light blue, and are styled like nautical hooks more than anything else; because they're too awkward for fighting, they aren't often used in battle, so it instead sprays seawater from its mouth as its primary attack (which it also uses to instinctively clean dirty objects and Pokémon).

"They live in large numbers on the sea, sometimes infesting boats. They spray a salty froth from their mouths for both defense and cleaning."

Justification: Rock-type special Night Daze clone
Flavor: A bulkier, tougher-looking upright lobster, Lobswab's body shape is something akin to a mix of Larry from Spongebob and Mr. Waternoose from Monsters, Inc., with a darker bluish slate-gray to most of its upper body except for a dark blue to the upper part of the torso as well as its arms except for its pincers. Its shoulders are encrusted with epaulets made of hard, reflective shards of familiar-looking pink coral, and similar decor adorns the top of its bright blue pointy head, which now has feelers arranged like a pencil mustache and smaller and fiercer-looking stalked eyes. The body bends sharply at the waist which has four white crab-like legs coming out of it to stand on, its tail curving downward behind it with the soft white finlets at the end suggesting a mop with which to swab the ground behind it. Notably, its blue pincers are asymmetrical: its right claw looks like Clauncher's, but its left is thinner with a long, serrated main prong like the pincer of the above-pictured Dinochelus lobster, shaped like a serrated saber - this is actually a bit on the fragile side, but can be surrounded by a blade of water to turn it into a halfway decent weapon.

"By waving its pincer-blade wildly, it aims to impress peers and foes alike, but often comes off as comically inept. It uses its mop-like tail to clean up after any messes in its wake."

Accuracy: 90%
Power Points: 24
Effect: Lays a layer of Spikes on the opposing side
Flags: Mirror
Distribution: Signature move of Capstacian
Justification: Water-type special Ceaseless Edge clone
Flavor: With a somewhat centaurian body shape reminiscent of Crawdaunt, Capstacian is sturdier and stockier than its pre-evolutions, its entire body angled forward and shaped much like the hull of a battleship or destroyer except made of chitin below and coral and barnacles above - it's actually stuck an entire live coral reef on its back to make it that much tougher to bust open. The coral is now light gray like Cursola's shell but with some live pink branches coming out akin to Johtonian Corsola, the latter invoking the smokestacks of a cruiser and even emitting spouts of froth. Darker gray barnacles are affixed to the sides of this coral armor hull as well as the shoulders, and these are used like cannons, blasting jets of water and even pebbles they pick up to strike down prey or foes from a distance, though it can also use them to more gently hose down grime and in fact has a habit of cleaning up anything dirty - even other Pokémon. The dark bluish black shell proper has yellow accents making it reminiscent of the jacket of a naval officer, and the top of the head has projections that make it resemble a tricorn hat; the face, tail, and the lower parts of its six Kingler-like legs are lighter sea-blue, and its white, bushy antennae coupled with matching bristles around its mouth resemble a seaman's mustache. Its blue, gold-tipped pincers, mounted on buff-looking arms, now look like pirate captain's weaponry, with the right pincer encased by an especially large barnacle like the barrel of a pistol and the thinner left one being distinctly cutlass-shaped. Finally, its still-white tail fin is now shaped and used like the propeller of a ship, enabling it to swim through even the roughest waves - the earliest residents of Brunica supposedly rode on its back through sea storms and dangerous reefs, and modeled their own watercraft off of the bulky yet hydrodynamic shape of its armored shell.

Potential Competitive Role: Straight from the depths of Davy Jones' locker, Capstacian calls forth the wrath of the sea to smite all who dare oppose it with its formidable Special Attack stat and a number of powerful moves with which to abuse it. Despite being statted as primarily a special attacker, though, its bulk is skewed slightly more towards the physical side, the better to potentially stymie foes looking to take it on in physical combat. More significantly, its Rip Current HA is tailor-built to screw with and screw over the enemy team in one of the most hilariously frustrating ways imaginable: potentially forcing a switch straight into Stealth Rock, Spikes, or other entry hazards. Both of its signature moves are in fact hazard-setters themselves (on top of this dangerous decapod naturally learning Stealth Rock as well), and they synergize well with Rip Current to not only throw off the strategy of the enemy team, but also inconvenience whomever's dragged in at the worst possible time. The main drawbacks to watch out for are its middling Speed and weaknesses to three common attacking types along with a double Grass weakness, though Grass and Electric are dealt with by Ground and Ice coverage respectively. Luckily, Shell Smash and Rock Polish both offer a handy speed boost to enable it to make good use of its offensively oriented typing, with Shell Smash in particular offering a SpA boost as well, which is arguably enough to turn this decently tanky supportive pivot into a frighteningly effective setup sweeper if given enough room to breathe.

"In battle, it uses its cannon-like symbiotes to collect water, silt, and even sunlight as ammunition for a fierce assault. By spraying brine less forcefully, it carefully washes its nest to keep it in pristine condition."

A tiny little fish Pokemon that hatches in extremely cold waters, this little, turquoise fish Pokemon is distinguished by a bluish-white sphere of packed snow around the front half of its body - its body is so cold that it freezes any moisture around it, helping it stay cool in warmer, more temperate waters. Its round, blue-gray pectoral fins protrude from the sides of the snowball, and its head, spade-shaped when seen from above, pokes out of the front, while the tadpole-like tail trails out behind, with a blue-gray fin like Tympole's. It has two short barbels like Barboach on the underside in front of its frowning mouth along with several blue-gray dots like acne on the topside, and its large, yellow eyes, set atop the head like a crocodile's, have dark blue rings around them like "nerd glasses" and a perpetually frightened look to them. Appropriately, Frydgety is a very panicky Pokemon, quite unspectacular and diminutive enough to be easily bullied by most other aquatic Pokémon. Perhaps there's some potential for it to overcome its low self-esteem issues, but would it be worth it...?

"Its body contains proteins that protect it from extreme cold. This neurotic Pokémon freezes the water around it to instantly encase itself in solid ice when frightened."

Flags: Mirror
Distribution: Signature move of Icypenser
Justification: Ice-type Sand Tomb clone
Flavor:
An enormous, serpentine fish Pokemon based only partly on an adult sturgeon, Icypenser owes more to the more sea-serpent-like depictions of lake monsters in terms of its shape. Bluish purple on top with a lighter periwinkle underside, it still has a packed snowball over its "chest", albeit much larger, but it now has a moderately long, S-curved neck protruding from the front with a head like an adult sturgeon at the end of it, though it also resembles a shark's head in overall shape. The barbels are longer and more prominent, ice-blue in color, and sweep back like on a Chinese dragon before ending with feathery, wispy tips, and there's an extra pair of almost ear-like fins on either side of its face. The eyes are far smaller and set in the midst of dark blue "shades" like Krookodile's except more mellow-looking in shape, protecting the beast's vision even in whiteout conditions. The serenely smiling mouth is shark-like but lacks teeth, so it can only uselessly gum large enemies, but it can protrude forward enough to form a large tube; it feeds on smaller Water-types which it captures by suction after weakening them via spitting a blast of freezing water. The back half of the creature is now very long and serpentine but also quite thick with muscle, flexing sideways when swimming but also capable of vertical undulation so it rises in humps as it rests on the water surface. Its fins are now ice-blue in color like the barbels, the tail fin having a forked shape with rounded tips along with two additional fins on the top and bottom just ahead of it. Notably, there are three rows of blue-white, pyramid-shaped nodules made of solid ice running down the entire length of its body, one row down the back and two on either side. These are its main form of protection due to its hide being smooth and scaleless, and in a pinch it may even expand this ice covering and encase its whole body with an articulated "suit" of frozen armor if enough water is available.

A Pokémon so rare that some believe it to be a mere myth, Icypenser practically redefines the phrase "calm, cool, and collected". So self-assured is it in its strength and power that it remains composed even in the toughest circumstances, such as harsh blizzards or violent conflict. Its icy breath seems to have a calming effect on other Pokémon, forcibly stopping them from attacking, and if it feels that a battle isn't worth the effort, it will spray a chilling mist to obscure its foes' vision before sneaking away. Its spectacular appearance and devil-may-care attitude make it quite popular among collectors looking for bragging rights, but it's also critically endangered because countless Frydgety have been harvested from the wild in the hopes of even one of them evolving. As a result, the species has fallen into a habit of treating humanity quite coldly, so to speak, with captive specimens often ignoring trainers' commands or even refusing to partake in matches they could've easily won. The task of gaining the trust of one may be an uphill battle and a test of true patience, but success in this regard will reward you with a loyal, selfless ally.

Potential Competitive Role:
One of two attempts thus far on my part to drop a Magikarp ripoff into this region, Icypenser is more akin to Feebas/Milotic in terms of flavor niche, albeit with the Cool stat in place of Beauty; gameplay-wise, though, it's more akin to its fellow Ice/Dragon-type Baxcalibur, being a Dragon Dance-abusing wallbreaker with powerful STAB and a useful speed boost. The main distinction is that whereas Baxcalibur is physically inclined, Icypenser is focused more on the special side, and while not quite as destructive as the swordasaur's Outrage, a Draco Meteor from this big fish is still a force to be reckoned with even with the Special Attack drop requiring two more Dragon Dances or a Haze to negate, though Dragon Pulse is a better choice for damage consistency. Blizzard and Ice Beam take care of Fairy-types easily, and most of those that resist Ice don't exactly appreciate either Earth Power or Surf. While Baxcalibur can at least benefit from Tera to eliminate its weakness to Fairy, however, Icypenser doesn't get even that due to Tera being off the table, but it is able to learn Sludge Bomb as a TM, so it isn't quite as helpless against Fairy as one might think, but that's more or less the only thing that it has against that type, so unless you're worried about certain very specific attackers, just go with Earth Power. Its signature move, Chill Out, is a good option for trapping opponents and leaving them vulnerable to being wiped off the face of the earth with Draco Meteor, but even with as high a Special Attack as it has, its chip damage can take too long to score a KO if it turns out to be Dragon- or Ground-resistant, especially since Blizzard and Ice Beam are both safer and, more importantly, quicker to make use of. Still, there's something to be said for using Chill Out to trap an unsuspecting opponent, switching out with Flip Turn, and bringing in an equally strong teammate to deliver the finishing blow.

"According to local folklore, it appears only in the coldest days of winter, and spends the rest of the year relaxing at the bottom of the deepest lake it can find. It's said to remain composed even in the harshest conditions."
Name: Serene Scale
Effect: No in-battle effect in battle, but an Frydgety holding it will evolve into Icypenser when traded, consuming the item.
Can Be Removed (Yes or No): Yes
Ignored by Klutz (Yes or No): Yes
Fling Power & Effect: 10 BP + 10% chance to freeze the target
Justification: Prism Scale but for the Cool contest stat

For a region based on somewhere near the North Atlantic, I'm surprised nobody suggested an Atlantic sturgeon yet for one of Brunica's fakemon, so I decided to do the honors there. Its original name was actually "Monsturgeon" and I thought about it being fiercer in temperament, but then I started writing the flavor about it being the Cool counterpart to Milotic and pivoted to that instead, with the baby being based on the silly-looking fry of this fish pictured above (sourced from Wikipedia). It's also based on Old Ned, The Lake Utopia Sea Monster, and the idea that lake monsters like Nessie are based on misinterpreted sightings of sturgeons, further playing into this being a rehash of the "weak fish to sea serpent" trope like the Magikarp and Feebas lines before it.

  • TM/Tutor: All universal TMs/Tutors + Calm Mind, Bulk Up, Rain Dance, Snowscape, Ice Beam, Blizzard, Reflect, Light Screen, Safeguard, Smack Down, Earthquake, Leech Life, Psychic, Shadow Ball, Rock Tomb, Psychic Terrain, Scald, Stealth Rock, Earth Power, Stone Edge, Hex, Rock Slide, Trick Room, Surf, Waterfall, Dazzling Gleam, Dig, Gravity, Hydro Pump, Icy Wind, Power Gem, Skill Swap, Trick, Water Pulse
  • Egg Moves: (Water 3) Aqua Ring, Aurora Beam, Brine, Cosmic Power, Iron Defense, Shell Smash, Water Pulse
Name: Pearl of Wisdom
Type:
Rock.png

Effect: Adds an additional 20 BP for each factor by which one of the user's stats is raised. Can stack if multiple stats are boosted (e.g. using Calm Mind once will add 40 BP)
Priority: 0
Distribution: Signature move (Type balm) of Shellseer
Justification: Rock-type special Last Respects clone, but slightly nerfed and with the user's stat increases as the damage boost condition
Flavor:
Based on Tonicella marmorea, the northern red chiton, this is a small, cute, loaf-like invertebrate in the same manner as Pyukumuku and Pincurchin before it. It's oval-shaped, relatively flat, and sports a segmented, blue-green shell with round, pink jewels like pearls arranged all over it like a bejeweled brooch. Amazingly, it's able to sense psychic energy through these jewels, a reference to chitons having aragonite eyes all over their shells. Some of these gems are also larger than normal and form a smiley face on its back in the vein of what Cryogonal has. Underneath and around the shell is the pinkish-red flesh of the actual body, which is used to cling tightly to rocks like a living suction cup.

Potential Competitive Role:
Like real chitons, Shellseer is laughably slow but also extremely durable. In true shellfish fashion, it has an impressive Defense stat and access to Protect, Withdraw, and Iron Defense as an egg move, but notably, it also has equally high Special Defense, as well as a decent Special Attack stat. Notably, this enables it to work quite well as an offensive special tank, which synergizes well with its Type Balm move which not only has a strong attacking type but also enables it to deal incredible amounts of damage once it has enough Calm Mind boosts. This is only effective against BUg-type threats, but it does also have Ice, Fairy, Ghost, and Ground-type coverage to deal with other potential switch-ins, though these don't have quite as much punch as a max-boosted Pearl of Wisdom. Its nonexistent Speed, mighty defenses, and access to a number of solid special attacks with the SpA stat to back it up also makes it a solid choice for Trick Room sets, and the fact that it can learn Trick Room itself also opens up the possibile strategy of switching into an incoming attack it can easily shrug off, setting up Trick Room, and devastating the enemy team with a high-speed blitzkrieg. In short, Shellseer may be just a little guy, but it's certainly not to be underestimated!

"The gemstones all over a Shellseer's body are light-sensitive, allowing it to see in all directions. There are claims that it's even able to fortell the future, but no evidence of this has yet been found."

Second sub review. Questionable things are red, veto-worthy things are additionally bolded:
Brunican Wailmer, Malwail
Whaling: Got a good defensive typing, decent bulk and strong special attack. And learnt something new.
Prawdet, Lobswab, Capstacian; Icypenser, Monsturgeon; Shellseer
'fraid to get wet?: As mentioned in previous slates, all subs should have at most one signature move and another that can be distributed further. The Prawdet line, as of now, has three moves.
The other two are WIPs, so I'll reserve my judgment for now.

Newer additions...
Aplobodile; Brunican Magikarp, Arcakarp
Drummer fish + croc...?: I confess, this is a rather strange addition to the line, even beyond the likes of Remoaraid & Octillery (who are connected by their secondary theming), as there isn't a rather obvious angle to determine why.
Magikarp...: Well, it's Magikarp. At least this one will have something happen.

Name: Deluxe Bait
Effect: Water-type moves deals half damage against the holder. If hit by a Water-type move, the attacker’s Speed is reduced by two stages. Out-of-battle, if the Pokémon on first slot holds one, the most common encounter is skipped when fishing.
Can Be Removed (Yes or No): Yes
Ignored by Klutz (Yes or No): Yes
Fling Power & Effect: 10 BP + trap the target
Justification: Based on fish baits, obviously. Anti-rain measure for Fire-type or other Water-weak Pokémon. Work best on walls that have reliable recovery moves like Recover.

Item Adjustment
Name: Slushisloshi Scale (modified)
Effect: If held by Slushisloshi or Wishiwashi, permanently put it in Schooling form regardless of HP remaining, and then replace their Ability by Water Absorb. Such item cannot be taken away, swapped, Knocked Off or destroyed if held by the compatible Pokémon.
Justification
: Doesn’t feels right that Slushisloshi have a signature item while Wishiwashi doesn’t gain a similar item, so I’ll bridge this gap between the two. Wishiwashi now gain an actual Ability like their lookalike does when holding this item.

Kelpurion lures unwary humans by posing as a noble steed. Once mounted, it drags them to the ocean depths, where it devours them after drowning. Its flowing mane of kelp conceals its sinister nature, swaying eerily in the water.

Emperacean wields its massive claw like a shield or hammer, crushing Clamperl and Shellder to feast on their soft insides. Originating in icy ocean waters, it is believed to be the ancestor of Krabby, spread to other regions by cargo and cruise ships.

Notable Moves: Shield Bash*, Crabhammer, Play Rough, Body Press, Swords Dance, Iorn Defense, Flip Turn, Liquidation, etc.
Flavor (Required): Inspired to the blue crab, the most diffused crab species around the world, which originated in the north-west american waters and spread all around the world traveling with ships.

Flags (ex: Contact, Sound): Contact
Distribution: almost any Steel-type, defensive Rock-types and other with Def >>> Atk
Justification: copied from Sylvemons (does Vaporemons still have it?), as a typing is more frequently associated with defensive Pokémon, contrary to Body Press.
Name: Imperial Hammer
Type:
Fairy.png

Effect: Uses user's Def stat as Atk or SpA in damage calculation. 20% chance to lower the target's Atk by 1.
Priority: 0

Name: Calamarrier ("calamaro", "squid" in italian + "aircraft carrier")
Counterpart(s) / Evolutionary Members: Evolves from Octillery when leveled up in a particular location of Brunica,
under water in the deepest part of its sea.
Typing:
Water.png
Fire.png

Ability: Bombardier / Mega Launcher | Battle Armor
Base Stats: HP 105 / Atk 125 / Def 80 / SpA 125 / SpD 80 / Spe 25 (BST 540)
Height + Weight: 4.5 m, 870.0 kg
Notable Moves: Calamalaser*, Octazooka, Liquidation, Hydro Pump, Scald, Water Spout, Pyro Ball, Sludge Bomb, Shadow Ball, Weather Ball, Energy Ball, Gyro Ball, Ice Ball, Bullet Seed, Rock Blast, Tailwind, Flash Cannon, Blizzard, Ice Beam, Psychic, Gunk Shot, Thunder Wave, Toxic, Will-O-Wisp, etc.
Flavor (Required): Inspired to an aircraft carrier and a giant squid. It was one of Ayecrusher King's messages on discord to inspire me, plus I nominated the prevolutions in last slate.
- Dex Entry:
Calamarrier is a peaceful giant that roams the open seas. It rarely attacks unless provoked, and many seabird Pokémon rest on its back during hunts or long migrations.
*Custom Elements:
Name: Calamalaser
Power: 100
Type:

Category:
Special.png

Base Power: 100
Accuracy: 95%
Power Points: 8
Effect: Physical if Atk > SpA; high crit ratio.
Priority: 0
Flags (ex: Contact, Sound): Pulse
Distribution: exclusive to Calamarrier, Inkay and Malamar get it through Egg/Mirror Herb move, and in general squid-like Pokemon (if any new one gets added in the future).
Justification: Calamarrier needs an affordable physical water STAB, so this could help; I would consider this an exclusive move anyway, guessing Inkay and Malamar would get it just for the same principle as Octolock gets Octazooka; ps no pun intended with the name lol.
Moveset:
Physical TR (Calamarrier) @ Choice Band/Life Orb/Grass Balm
Ability: Bombardier
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def
IVs: 0 Spe
Brave Nature
- Calamalaser
- Pyro Ball
- Bullet Seed/Seed Bomb
- Flip Turn

I genuinely thought Adjustments and Nominations were different actions, but they're just two names, sorry ihih

Name: Remoraid
Type: water
Stats: (unchanged)
Abilities: Hustle / Sniper | Bombardier

Name: Octillery
Type: water
Stats: (unchanged)
Abilities: Suction Cups / Sniper | Bombardier

Moves Changes: Octazooka => Physical if Atk > SpA (plus previous adjustments, from Desvega)
Justification: Moody has been banned from OU since its introduction, and it is in general a too much RNG mechanic which I don't Like. Also, Octillery knows a lot of Bullet-based moves and is based on a tank, with a cannon as its mouth, so it's one of the Pokémon that deserves Bombardier the most, and it makes it transition more smoothly to Calamarrier. Last, but not least, Octazooka's main users have the same value for Atk and SpA, the other ones can benefit from this change.

Third sub review, due to personal circumstances, voting stage will begin 72 hours from this post. The amount of subs cannot be increased after this post, if you wish to make a 'new' sub, modify one of your existing ones. As usual, questionable things are in red, veto-worthy things are additionally bolded:
Antiqualik; Brunican Eelektrik, Brunican Eelektross
Name: Deluxe Bait
Effect: Water-type moves deals half damage against the holder. If hit by a Water-type move, the attacker’s Speed is reduced by two stages. (Off battle, fishing with at least one of this item in Bag will make it so the most common fish encounter cannot be drawn within the possible encounters.)

Name: Glimmer Scale
Effect: If held by a Pokémon with Schooling (Wishiwashi, Slushisloshi), permanently put them in Schooling form regardless of HP remaining, and restore their HP by 12,5% (1/8th) per turn.
Can Be Removed (Yes or No): No if held by Wishiwashi or Slushisloshi, yes if held by anyone else.
Ignored by Klutz (Yes or No): Yes
Fling Power & Effect: 10 BP + lower target’s Evasion by two stages
Justification: Signature item for Wishiwashi and their Desvega lookalike, Slushisloshi. Helps with their longevity and make use of their huge Defense and Special Defense in their Schooling form. Items that only works if held by a specific, regular Pokémon wasn’t a thing since the third Generation as far as I remember, so another one wouldn’t hurt. Based on an item of Vaporemons.
Fish Bait: I don't think there are battle items that work from the bag, so it would make more sense that its out-of-battle effect is triggered if one of your party is holding it.
Scale: To refresh the memory, Slushisloshi already has an exclusive item called the Slushisloshi Scale, introduced in Desvega which also locks it into School Form and changes its Ability to Water Absorb. If you persist, please instead modify that item.
Kelpony, Kelpurion; Calamarrier; Brunican Krabby, Brunican Kingler, Emperacean
Kelp Demon: A strong Swift Swimmer wallbreaker. I understand the basic concept of photosynthesis, so the fact that it's the water-type moves that get the buff, even by that explanation, raises queries. Wouldn't the process you're referencing be vaporisation instead?
Crab Rave: I believe Shield Bash first originated from Pokemon Sage before Sylvemons, though in any case Vapourmons doesn't have it as an option anymore. I am aware of its physical bulk combined with that great defensive typing, so would request you snip off at least 10 points from its Defense. Oh, and provide its evolution method.
Gunboat diplomacy: I had to look back to see which of my lines was the inspiration. Anyways, it's a awesome concept, and terrifying under Trick Room.

Adjustments: Your request is denied. While I also agree Moody is broken, the fact remains that you yourself already nominated the line without any adjustments, there are no second chances. Octozooka's change is also denied, because it has only just been decently adjusted last gen.
Inchovi, Telebyss
Sub-marine: A very decent support mon with excellent special bulk. that can provide support. Please include the etymology for their names, however.
UPDATE: I thought I reviewed this last time, never mind.
Pogo-flop: Aside from its speed, every other stat is merely average. Spring Back is very niche. There was another ogopogo subs submitted in earlier slates that I prefer, but alas, it is not an option.

Before we begin the voting stage for this Aquatic slate, let the record show the initial returning mons who will join the Brunican Dex:
  • The Aleviar line (Cuttrout can now learn Autotomize, Ice Spinner & Throat Chop while Fillet Away gets a rework)
  • The Salmini line (Full movepool will be established*)
  • The Yanma lines (Johtonian & Lorian)
  • The Feebas line (Milotic gets a new Balm Move)
  • The Walmer line (Both now learn Flip Turn, Frost Feint, Icicle Crash & a new Balm Move, Wailord's Ability Oblivious is replaced with Dozer)
  • The Fletching line (All members get Air Dive & Solar Blade, while Talonflame gets one new Balm Move)
Additionally, we have one (technically two) new item to our arsenal:
  • Deluxe Bait
  • Slushisloshi Scale
------
This is an unranked voting poll. The order of your preferences does not matter. You may vote for up to five submissions, with counterparts considered as one vote together but that is not applicable in this slate. Each vote is worth one point; self-votes are worth two points, limited to one per user, must be accompanied with (SV) and permitted only if you have voted for at least two submissions belonging to others. Failure to properly mark your self-vote will result in said vote being disqualified, and only the first five votes will be counted if you vote for more than five. The submissions with the top three amount of votes will become part of the dex.
