Gen VII: Pokemon Sun and Moon Discussion MKII

Not open for further replies.
CoroCoro promised they would reveal Rockruffs evolved form and secret that it shares with the starters. I am guessing that they all have unique Z moves. So maybe we will see secoind forms for the starters as well?
Actually, it would reveal "The secret of Rockruff evolution". Before it was hinted that the starters and Rockruff shared a secret. So, going by both terms...I would say it's tied in that aspect and not on Z-Moves.

Continuing from my previous post, the new Pokemon are certainly interesting, though the new characters and features are actually even more interesting!

VIDEOS (+ REMAINING NEWS):
I'm going to do things a bit differently. Since the new characters and features are scattered throughout the new trailers I'll discuss them when we get to them in the video and seen them in action. The English and Japanese trailer went into details on different things so, while I'm going to do the English trailer first, I'm going to hold my opinion on some things for the Japanese trailer. So let's get started:

0:36: Now you probably thought Jangmo-o used Dragon Tail to force a switch out, but remember that was Wishiwashi is just attacked so...
0:43: I call shenanigans, from what we learned about Alolan Raticate it wouldn't jump even if its life depended on it.
0:53: Version Differences discussion will be saved for the Japanese trailer.
1:24: "Even Pokemon from distant worlds... are worthy of my love" That's just inviting the Eldritch Abominations...
1:27: Faba can you try not looking evil before we know the Aether Foundation's true purpose, thanks. Also he's the Branch Chief (I'm assuming or Alola)... even though they have the President there too? Also are there other regions the Aether Foundation has set up in?
1:42: And now Team Skull is trying to steal a Slowpoke and sell it. Okay there's being like Team Rocket and then copying one of Team Rocket's failed plans.
(As not to break up the flaw of my video I'm going to put my deeper thoughts into spoiler tags)

So yeah, I wasn't a second team. Though it's not a villain team, for once in Pokemon it looks like we have a "friendly" team (though would you count the Ex-Team Plasma members from BW2 a "friendly" team?). The Aether Foundation is a group in the Alola region dedicated to helping injured or defenseless Pokemon, especially from Team Skull. But they're still scientists type so also conduct research and perform experiments.

Remember the artificial island between all the islands? Turns out it's actually the Aether Foundation's HQ, the Aether Paradise. So what we thought may have been an end of the adventure/post game location might have a lot more story importance then we originally thought.

Not really much to say about the Aether's members (at least no in relation to other characters). The main three all have their own color scheme and it says the grunts employees' uniforms depend on which division they work for. So either they mean the color highlights on the uniform changes or they actually change clothes and these are I guess field workers (are you guys sure you have enough pockets? I'm sure you can fit like 6 more on your "pants" and a batch on your "shirt"). Actually let's talk about their uniforms, apparently all the woman were thigh high boots/outer stockings and the male uniform is a onesie (and it's not like its suspenders, the pants and shirts are one piece. It looks like to put it on they need to slip their feet first through the chest opening). I hope that's a comfortable materiel their clothes are made of, because from where I stand it looks like their wearing latex, Arceus help them.

Since part of Sun & Moon's theme is contrast I guess they're meant to look the opposite of Team Skull. Team Skull is a gang of thugs, wear black street clothes, treat Pokemon like objects to use and sell, and overall want to cause chaos. The Aether Foundation are scientists & humanitarians (or whatever the Pokemon equivalent of that is), wear white hi-tech looking uniforms, treat Pokemon with loving care, and overall want to improve the lives of people and Pokemon. Seems like the ultimate good team... of course the extreme opposite of one side can just be as bad even if that side doesn't realize.

Of course many are already pointing figures and proclaiming The Aether Foundation are the real villains, either working/manipulating Team Skull as they perform unethical genetic experiments (aka the Cipher to Team Snagem in the Pokemon Colosseum games). I'm... not to sure. As I alluded to in my above sentence, they don't have to be evil in order to do something bad. The road to Hell is paved with good intentions. Of course this is just speculation, and if this wasn't a game I wouldn't think anything of it. But since it is AND they're getting a lot of story focus I question what is in stored for them.

Oh, and you're probably wonder what "aether" means. Aether is an ancient word, used by the Greeks as a primordial god (the parents of the titans and grandparents of the Greek gods we all know) who personified the "upper sky", the air that the gods breathed as oppose to those below. Aether would later be used to describe a "fifth element" to the four classical elements. It retained its meaning of being a substance that was considered extraterrestrial, purer than normal air. It was thought to be the element that filled the universe that was above our reach. It was used to describe phenomenon like light and natural forces like gravity. While earth, water, air, and fire were ever changing aether never changed. This then leads us to alchemy. Another name for aether is "quintessence", something which alchemists sought after as they thought it to be a pure element that could be used in medicine to cure any disease and ailment. It would later become synonymous with elixirs (this is where we get the "ether" from) and, of course, the Philosopher's Stone. Now quintessence is a term still used today in physics as a hypothetical dark energy responsible for the expense of the universe, but at this point I think we're getting away from the main point. Aether is the fifth element, such as its the "fifth island" to the Alolan islands. Like what alchemists were seeking to do with aether/quintessence the Aether Foundation dedicate themselves to helping and healing. How else the Aether Foundation reflects the element it's named after we shall see. However its important to remember that aether was presented as something that might have been beyond human comprehension...
1:44: Gladion discussion will be saved for the Japanese trailer.
1:57: Surprise! We talked about maybe previous characters appearing on vacation, but we were all thinking Gym Leaders, Elite Four, Champions, and etc.. No one was expecting Sycamore's assistants Dexio and Sina! And it looks like they grew up quite a bit, they're pretty much young adults now! How far ahead did Sun & Moon take us in the timeline, has to be over 5 years by the look of it. Do you think they grew out of the all Defenders of Kalos thing?
Finally we get to know what's the deal with Zygarde. Well, sorta, we don't know why there's Zygarde Cores and Cells in Alola but now we have the means of collecting them, the Zygarde Cube. When the Zygarde forms were revealed to us many came up with a "search quest" theory where we would get a Zygarde Core and then have to go around Kalos (ah, the days when we thought Z was coming) collecting the Cells. Well we weren't too far from the truth, except we're collecting both Cores and Cells and it's in Alola.

Hmm, so we're collecting Cores too? I know it takes 5 Cores to create a Perfect Zygarde though they've always been presented as something special compared to the Cells (being they're the brains of the outfit which commands the Cells). I wonder if we get a Core there's an additional thing that will happen, but for now we just see we have to keep our eyes peeled for dark spots on the map as it could be a Zygarde Cell (or Core).
2:23: Oh no they incorporate Tumblr into the game... And wait some of those comments are negative yet the person still gave a thumbs up?
Well, people have been wanting Pokemon Snap back, and now you do (sorta)!

Should've figured Rotom Dex would have a photo taking option (wonder if it has a selfie mode like they added to the Picto Box in LoZ: Wind Waker HD...), though I wouldn't have thought they'd also add Pokemon Snap as a bonus! This looks like a fun idea even if its limited to certain locations and Pokemon (though maybe this is a proof of concept for a full Pokemon Snap sequel, hmm). And just like Snap you then choose one of the dozen photos you took to be judges. Oh, but not by a professional like a Pokemon Professor, no this time you're trying to get thumbs up from Poke Tumblr. You pick a photo, post it on a social media, and you get thumbs up. But I can see through your disguises, GF, the thumbs up are no different from Professor Oak's scoring in Pokemon Snap! I bet the comments made will probably give you indirect hints how to take better photos for a higher score.

Still a neat idea... and makes me wonder how far they will go. Sure, the game has its own scoring system... but maybe they could implement a way for other players to evaluate your picture?
2:34: Ultra Beasts discussion will be saved for the Japanese trailer... which we're going to right now!
0:08: WHAT! Solgaleo is exclusive to Sun and Lunala is exclusive to Moon! I did not see that coming.
0:16: Well we got two gen rodents who are mortal enemies, might as well make them exclusive bosses.
0:28: That sun is kind of worrying me, it's a bit close and we can see it giving off flares. Are you sure it's suppose to be that close?
0:34: So is Drifblim and Misdreavus version exclusives or are they time exclusives? There's a big difference between the two which could effect the way you play the game.
0:40: Oh, BTW, the game is looking BEAUTIFUL! They really worked hard on making the different parts of the day look unique from each other.
0:46: Ah, so while Desert Island's pier looked, well, deserted, that was because the map didn't include the boats which I assume make up the main "town" on that island. And of course the boats look like Pokemon. We got one that looks like Magikarp (Please be a Magikarp Sub), one that looks like its being pulled by Huntails, Wailord boat, Whiscash boat, and... is that a Steelix boat? Why a Steelix? I think I also see some yellow water scooters. Hm, you know it would be neat if at different times different boats pulled in making it a changing "town".
0:51: And this must be the Ecruteak City looking city on the Mountain Island. Yeah, looks very traditional Japan... and kind of making me want to see a Kanto/Johto remake. And of course they just have to have Gen I & II Pokemon just hanging out. :P Let's see what shops they have: I think that's the Herbal medicine shop, TMs, haircuts, and CLOTHING STORE! Though this does make the hula dancer stand out a bit like "something here is not like the other".
0:54: Hmm, what's that bird Pokemon on top... Pelipper! You're not Gen II, get out of here!
0:57: OUR JAPANESE FANS, DO YOU LIKE THIS? DOES THIS MEET YOUR APPROVAL? PLEASE BUY POKEMON SUN AND MOON EVEN THOUGH IT'S NOT BASED IN JAPAN, THERE'S A LITTLE JAPAN IN IT!
So like all games Sun & Moon will have version differences, but like in Gen V they're trying to make the differences more visual. One way they're doing this is via having the games be set 12 hours apart. While Pokemon Sun will have its time working as normal, Pokemon Moon will be set 12 hours apart so during the day it'll be night in the game and during the night it'll be daytime in the game. An interesting version difference which fits thematically.

The site's Cool Features have updated with some comments from game director, Shigeru Ohmori. He not only commented why he named the game's Sun & Moon (something that was addressed at last years E3 I think), but also why he made the games take place 12 hours apart. To summarize, they worked hard to make both day and night look beautiful and unique from one another that they wanted players who play different versions to also have a unique experience. Environments will looks different, different natural phenomenons exclusive to a certain time of day, and it looks like different Pokemon will appear at different times.

This is a very interesting way of doing a version difference. While Gen V changed up how certain locations looked, Sun & Moon is giving us the same location but it'll either be under the bright sun's glow or dimly lit by the moon's reflections, giving the same area a different lighting appearance. Clever on its own, but they also will be adding different phenomenons such as rainbows during the day and a meteor shower at night. Finally having some Pokemon appearing at certain times will change up how some playthroughs will go, though if you want a certain Pokemon there's nothing stopping you from waiting/returning and getting it later if you really want it. So it's not really version exclusive which I would say lessens the difference they may hope it would cause as, if they include an AreaNav, some players will refuse to leave/come back when they can to complete it.

Of course there's one more version exclusives: Totem Pokemon. Some Totem Pokemon will be different depending on the version you're playing. The Gumshoos Totem which summons Yungoos? Only in Sun, in Moon its a Alolan Raticate who summons Alolan Rattata. How much a difference it will make remains to be seen (both are still weak to Fighting and are probably physical focused), but it's still an interesting change, almost like having version exclusive Gyms (and I mean more then a different Gym Leader who uses the same type).
1:20: I'm guessing that's the Aether Foundation's logo. Not sure what its suppose to look like, maybe vaguely like a heart to contrast Team Skull's skull? Okay I'm stretching, though I do notice they also have a crystal motif, hmm...
1:53: Either Hau is really excited or annoyed, I can't quite tell. BTW can we have translations for what they're saying?
2:23: You didn't think we were just getting Plumeria? We now have Team Skull's enforcer, Gladion. Not really much to say about him, though there is one his partner, Type: Null. We'll get into that a bit later. Though in battle he for some reason holds his left arm which is shaking (insert cutting himself/Linkin Park's "Crawling" here). Compressed anger or is there something going on, maybe in connection with Type: Null?
4:53: Alolan Raticate kind of isn't a surprise when you show it earlier in the trailer...
5:26: Ph'nglui mglw'nafh UB-01 Aether Foundation wgah'nagl fhtagn
So, do you remember how in BW2 we had PokeStar studios which gave us sort of boss battles using non-Pokemon? I had hoped they would one day use this idea for an actual boss, maybe like having a boss power-up their Pokemon or use some kind of machine we need to have our Pokemon dismantle. Well, I think I got my wish and its freaky.

Ultra Beasts aren't Pokemon (oh yeah, we'll see what my Pokeball has to say to that) but powerful beings from seemingly another dimension (you see Lusamine, THIS is what happens when you say you love all things even from other worlds. I've seen enough hentai to know where those tentacles are going!). Apparently Aether Foundation is researching them so I guess a question is are they responsible for bringing them (or creating them?). First one is UB-01 which is a glass-like jellyfish that can shapeshift, and behaves in a manner of a young girl.

Well, I could play coy but let's get down to business: what is the connection between UB-01 and Lillie?
UB-01.png
170px-Sun_Moon_Lillie.png

Well obviously we're suppose to draw parallels with their appearance. The hat, hair bangs, arms, dress, legs, general color scheme and design cues. Is Lillie a UB-01? And if so why is she taking a form of a young girl? Though of course this goes into my next topic point
Blonde hair and green eyes as far as I can see, at least for three characters. In a game where they take character design into account so are very careful; Lillie, Gladion, and Lusamine look remarkably alike, as if they were family...

243px-Sun_Moon_Gladion.png
261px-Sun_Moon_Lusamine.png

Gladion's partner is Type: Null, a very odd Pokemon and not just how it looks. As I said when I talked about it, how did Team Skull, a group who as far as we know is just a street gang, create its own Pokemon? It took Team Rocket and Silpho Co. an entire lab of scientists to do that! With the family resemblance and Gladion the one in control of Type: Null, could it be he's maybe Lusamine's son? Type: Null is an Aether Foundation experiment gone wrong and when Gladion defects to Team Skull he took it with him? So Type: Null wasn't made to fight Legendaries, but rather the Ultra Beasts?

But wait, why did Gladion leave? Teenage rebellion only goes so far. And where does Lillie come into this, and UB-01? Stick with me here. First some name fun. Gladion's name from "Gladiolus". As you can see, "lus" is also in the name so that's maybe where Lusamine's name partially comes from hence strengthening the family connection. Of course your average John/Jane Doe isn't going to call it Gladiolus, they're going to give it a nickname. What's the Gladiolus's nickname? Sword LILY. Thus, at least with the names, the triangle is complete.

"Um, didn't you have a theory"? Yes, I'm getting to that. So, if Lillie is related to Gladion and Lusamine then she's Lusamine's daughter and Gladion's sister? Maybe, but we just then had a discussion about Lillie being a UB-01. So, here's my theory: while doing research on the Ultra Beasts they pulled a young one through (maybe its a young UB-01, maybe it's another one who we'll call UB-00). UB-00, being young, doesn't know where it is and upon seeing Lusamine takes her appearance as a basis to form a human body. Intrigued, the Aether Foundation sort of adopts "Lillie" and Lusamine starts spending more time with her than her actual son, Gladion. Gladion, seeing Lillie nothing but a eldritch abomination and angry it has seemingly taken his mother from him, decides to defect to Team Skull not to cause trouble but to fight back against what he sees is a monster let loose in their world. Before he leave he grabs Type: Null, one of the foundation's failed attempts to create a Pokemon powerful enough to take on the Ultra Beasts with the purpose he'll use it to destroy Lillie.

Why yes I would take my conspiracy theorist membership card now, do you have one in blue?

BUT WAIT! They've released yet another trailer, the continuing story of the Japanese boy who moves to Hawaii.
(There's one in Japanese too but both are the same)
0:15: Jeez, clam down, it's just a Pokemon battle. Yeah his Hawaiian friend was teasing him a bit but he tries to apologize (I think) and the kid just blows him off. I guess we're suppose to think he thinks they only became friends with him as a joke but from what we saw he just got mad at losing and his new friend teasing about it. And yes, being teased isn't fun, but he then didn't let his Hawaiian friend apologize which he was doing voluntarily after seeing he upset him.
0:30: And now he's ignoring ALL his new friends? I agree with the Hawaiian friend when he shakes his head, he's taking this way too personal. Am I missing a cultural thing here?
1:01: AND the reason we're looking through this trailer: what apparently looks like Cutiefly's evolution. Looks like a humanoid Cutiefly wearing a scarf. Oh no, they just didn't pull a Ledyba on us? Well maybe they'll do better a second time around?...
1:16: New Z-Move? Or is that just the Normal-type super-sprint one?
2:03: Yes, Train On!... even though this is more of a message about understanding one another and making amends then actually training...
2:08: Whoa! Customizations just being thrown at us!

So, all of this looks really intriguing. They're really stirring the pot with these games, expect nothing and accept any possibility (... unless it involves Ash-Greninja, returning to Kalos, and other such rumors)! Well got a whole lot of comments to look through, seeya with my third post!

Why so much hype for the games having 12 hours difference? You can change the system's clock LOL.

And... how the hell do you pronounce Jangmo-o, even it's name has a confused face (o-o). Also, I think both abilities it gets are awesome depending on what kind of attacks your team is weak against, that's not even considering if they get buffed in the next game (like Bulletproof having inmunity to BULLET punch...) or what secondary typing it gets after evolving.

Wooah I just remembered something.
Lillie being a human that was transformed into a monster by science wouldn't be the first time in the main series that this happened.

Bill in RBY is a monster when you meet him and he needs your help to turn him back into a human.
Maybe the Aether Foundation is using his machine? Kanto lore seems to be big this time around (again).

Not sure how I feel about the possibility of Jangmo-o being the Pseudo line. On one hand I wouldn't be too mad because I like the design and flavor, and also think it's the best Dragon from this Gen by far already. On the other, I really didn't want another Dragon pseudo because those are already so played out, especially since we just had Goodra last Gen and it's supposed ''pure'' Dragon thing going on, and I was hoping that would be kind of a send-off to our usual and expected Pseudo Dragons from every Gen. Also, I don't like it that they didn't keep him a secret if that is the case, lol.

If they give him a Steel typing I might just have to use one, though.

Not to say that I don't like the idea, I really do. But it would be surprisingly eerie for a pokemon game imo.

Uh, he's actually a Clefairy ( which TECHNICALLY is a monster if we're not splitting hairs ). Lillie would have been turned into a beast, not a pokemon, a beast. That's more like the the case of Nina Tucker from Fullmetal Alchemist, ya know this one.

Though in battle he for some reason holds his left arm which is shaking (insert cutting himself/Linkin Park's "Crawling" here). Compressed anger or is there something going on, maybe in connection with Type: Null?
That's just a japanese fad. Look up characters such as Owain ( Fire Emblem ) or Dio Brando and you'll see what I'm talking about. It's just a theatrical thing.

I'm thinking the music at the beginning of the Japanese trailer that plays while they show Solgaleo and Lunala is their theme (but this is probably stating the obvious?). I swear they've used that theme in some of the previous promotional material but maybe I'm just imagining it.

Because my sleep schedule being so fucked means buying Moon will finally let me see what playing Pokémon is like during the day

Being a university student, Moon's time shift will allow me to play in daytime while allowing me to be lazy and not change the 3DS's clock. ;)

I'm kind of stuck too. I mostly play at early in the morning as I have to go to classes at 8 AM. Then I got work until 5 with some breaks in which I play Pokemon. I'm really not sure which version will be more friendly to me..

Lots of interesting new info this round.

-Type:Null is just odd and I really don't know what to think of it. It's design is strange although palatable, but I just don't really like it at all. Strange, strange name.

-Never really cared for the Rattata line but Faticate is so comical I actually kind of like it ha. The day-> night shift between the two versions is a cool twist, and as I'm getting both games I think it'll be interesting playing through them and seeing the differences.

-Team Aether is interesting. I actually really like the idea that while Team Skull is a local gang of incompetent hooligans that are simply up to no good, Aether has the true ulterior motives and is blinded by its own ideals, leading to the crisis of Alola that we ultimately must resolve.

-Do NOT like this whole otherworldly glob thing that is supposed to be menacing. I find it stupid and think it's too odd of a twist for Pokemon.

-The new baby dragon looks awesome, despite its strange name. I'm getting a dragon/steel or dragon/electric vibe from it. These are both necessary types previously restricted to cover legends.

-Cutiefly evo is, of course, cute.

Let's see what CoroCoro brings in a few days.

Wait wait wait... are we getting Pokemon Snap as a RotomDex feature?

Not that's an idea I approve... not Pokemon Snap itself, but it not being a separate game.

Maybe they're going to use this as a proof of concept and it can spin off into an official Pokemon Snap sequel?

ULTRA BEASTS! UB-01 seems a bit of a weird name. Obviously UB stands for Ultra Beast and 01 means its the first (Probably) but why cant they name it like any other Pokemon? Speculating that ultra beasts are man made, maybe by the Aether foundation. Kinda fits in with the whole Alchemy theme a bit. Hope the site gives us a bit more information than the video.

Have you seen how scientists name things? If its not in Latin it's like this. Also they don't know what Ultra Beasts exactly are, they probably want to abstain from giving them names so they might not accidentally misidentify it.

Wow! I didn't see any leaks mentioning type Null at all!
Also, the Jellyfish thingy's name, sounds so fake... I'm very interested!!

Trust me, you'll see leaks mentioning them now. They just coincidentally "forgot". :P They just coincidentally "forgot". :P It'll be at least fun to see what these leakers can think up.

UB-01!? Now people will start claiming Pokémon has become too much like Final Fantasy instead of Digimon.

Well now I want you to be able to summon a UB into battle, lol.

I get this huge feeling that Magearna, Type: Null, UB-01 and another are all connected to a genetically modified theme... and that these games are based around whether it's right or wrong to genetically modify Pokemon. Thus bringing Mewtwo into the obvious picture, giving Pokemon a shoutback to 20 years ago.

That's an interesting theory, though UB doesn't seem manmade. Maybe, UBs are meant to bring the question "at what point is it alright to break a code of ethics" as everyone fears UB and people would want to make Pokemon to fight them (thus my theory of Type: Null being an early/failed experiment meant to fight UBs).

Don't know how Magearna comes into this, maybe its the successful experiment to fight UBs since its based on an Island Guardian?

Can we talk about how Type:Null is literally made up of different pokemon parts

We could... if it was. I get the idea but... Kimeramon did it better. With Kimeramon you can tell what Digimon its made up of. Type: Null is just parts you associate with animals, none of its part looks like they came from any Pokemon I know.

So... XY -> Sun & Moon Timeline confirmed? (Also, they look way older than in XY, but maybe is because the models are not chibi anymore)

Why wouldn't Sun & Moon be part of the same timeline as Gen VII? I think Zygarde was proof of that.

And yes they are older, remember we do see a model of them at the end credits of XY and they were as young as the player character and friends. Now they're young adults, so I would say 5 or more years must have gone by.

It's a Chimera after all. Also, it is explicitly said to be synthetic. It seems to be a common feature in Gen VII: Magearna is an ancient robot, Type: Null an amalgation of different parts (although I don't recognize any parts of specific Pokémon), and Arc knows what UB-01 is supposed to be. Hopefully, it all ties together in some way, otherwise Gen VII is starting to feel like it has a lot of loose threads hanging around.

I'm debating whether I like that they took a concept of a chimera and went their own way with it or would have preferred what the mythical chimera looked like. Hmm, I think I'm mixed.

I remember in X and Y that there was an NPC in some place (I wanna say Anistar?) that mentioned a weird group of people that weren't Team Flare came and asked questions about Xerneas and Yveltal. That doesn't sound like Team Skull since they seem kind of small-time and would lack interest, but it sure as hell sounds like Aether.

Don't remember that. And don't forget Dexio and Sina were running around pretending to be super heroes asking questions.

Interestingly: this still doesn't guarentee it. Alola is far away from Kalos (and probably Hoenn) and could be a region that lacks Mega Stones. This does make it far more likely though and can give them an excuse to not bring back certain Megas. It also does make my theory on Zygarde being Post-Game stuff seem even more likely, probably it made its way over after the events of the game and Sycamore sent them after it. (I can just imagine Dexio and Sina's reaction to being assigned to go. "BEACH DISGUISES!!!"

Ooh, this gives me an idea! What if they aren't showing any new Mega Evolutions... because they won't become accessible until ater the story! Remember how in ORAS new Mega Stones started appearing after defeating/capturing Kyogre/Groudon? What if its the same here, after clearing up whatever happens in the story the environment gets a surge of energy and new Mega Stones are made!

UB-01 - Ok, this is getting really interesting. First non-pokémon and non-human creature ever appearing in the franchise (except for some animals in the anime).
200px-Bittercold_Core_PMDGTI.png

You forgot someone

I actually first thought of PokeStar Studios. True they weren't real bosses but I saw potential in a real boss in later games maybe sort of doing what they did there.

And we have now seen a normal Alakazam in gameplay footage, making it ever less likely that the "leak" with Water-type Growlithe line and Fighting-type Abra line is real.

Or they aren't catchable in Sun & Moon.

c85.png

A little too exactly if you ask me.

... My mind is blown! Not entirely the same, but close enough. Which makes me wonder if this was hinting at something or if the pattern has significance. Eitherway I'm curious what Colress would think about Mega Evolution and Z-Moves, things which tap into a Pokemon's hidden potential which he's been seeking to unleash. We know in XY he was snooping around the stones on Route 10.

Type Null isn't an ultra beast.
UB-01 is an ultra beast.

Yeah I can imagine this getting confusing if there's more of both, lol.

Guys... is this Colress????

No its a Sudowoodo... oh you mean the scientists behind it!

Too far away to tell, so who knows. But I'm guessing no.

I'm thinking the music at the beginning of the Japanese trailer that plays while they show Solgaleo and Lunala is their theme (but this is probably stating the obvious?). I swear they've used that theme in some of the previous promotional material but maybe I'm just imagining it.

They used this music in the Nintendo Direct they showed a few days ago, so maybe that's where you heard it

While it's a bit odd for them to reveal a pseudo at this point, I honestly think Jangmo-o could potentially be the one for this region. While it lacks any blue, something about its design reminds me of Bagon and Gible, plus it just looks like it'll evolve twice.

As long as they don't show its final evolution I'm fine with them showing the base form. Them not revealing Goomy last gen was genius as it doesn't look like the base form of the pseudo. I was kind of shocked all the way upon encountering Goomy and its evolutions.

*Sees Goomy*
Ooh! New Pokemon! Looks like a slug? Guessing Water and Bug.
*Catches Goomy*
Let's see what you're about... DRAGON?! Oh, I get it, its like a Slime from the Dragon Quest series. Funny GF.
*Sees Sliggoo*
Oh, I guess that's Goomy's evolution. I guess it'll just become a bigger snail blob from here on.
*Sees Goodra*
Well hello there... wait, purple, gooey... IS THAT GOOMY'S FINAL EVO? It looks... it can't be...
*Checks Bulbapeida*
IT'S THE PSEUDO-LEGENDARY!

However with Jangmo-o, if it is the Pseudo Legendary, as you said it sort of gives off that vibe so when we see it in the game it wouldn't be as a surprise as it was with Goomy.

That would be an interesting way to do it. And prevent them from giving us another Disc One Nuke like Mega Lucario and the Mega Latis.

There's a lot of theories floating around that the Aether Foundation are actually gonna turn out to be an evil team, but one thing that I haven't seen discussed yet that further proves this is that they seem to have nameless 'grunts'.

Ahem.
Aether Foundation
I don't trust them. There is just something about them that alerts the portion of my brain that senses plot twists which is rather good (I figured out the plot twist of The Sixth Sense when I was 6 after the first scene). And it doesn't help that their employees remind me of Grunts.
I do think Wicke is kinda cute, though.

Um, why do the Aether Foundation employees make people think they're villain grunts? Every professional job has a uniform, and this is theirs. Were the athletes that competed in the Olympics villain grunts for wearing the same uniform? I count inventory and my company supplied me with a shirt I have to wear to every job (and I have to wear black pants), am I a villain grunt? If its because they all look the same, that's because the game designers didn't implement a system where they could customize individual trainers (which they had in Colosseum so I don't know why not in the 3D games but I digress). Every trainer looks the same as the other in their class.
