Description: original is also v good but heres my take. its another weather guy but focuses more on the removal of other weather part than the offensive wallbreaking part. spread out stats allows it to perform like defensive charizard in lower tiers but with lesser rock move weakness so you can wisp that excadrill and no elec weakness so you can stay in on zapdos and stuff.

Description: I originally wanted to do Drizzle Blastoise, but someone already did that, so let's go for another field effect. Water/Fairy is a great typing right now, allowing Mega Blastoise to check Lopunny, Houndoom, and soft check Glalie and Lucario. This makes Blastoise a great physical wall to have even with its continued lack of recovery. Blastoise would basically play like a PhysDef Tapu Fini, removing hazards and being a sturdy but temporary roadblock that fits on balance or bulky offense teams, which is why Taunt and Draining Kiss were added, plus a slight Speed boost to make Taunt more appealing. High SpA keeps Blastoise from being passive, especially since it can't Scald burn for 5 turns.

Lots of potentially meta-shifting stuff here, along with some much needed type diversity, excited to see how these play out!

Luckily, I won't have to wait long for that because, as this is our third completed slate, we will be having some playtesting roomtours this weekend!

On both Saturday, February 4th, and Sunday, February 5th, at 4 PM EST (subject to change, please let me know if this doesn't work for you), we will have roomtours on DragonHeaven!

Be sure to join the Discord to get notified when the roomtours begin, but to also teambuild and playtest your teams in preparation for the roomtours. These tournaments will be very important in determining the power level of the metagame with the 9 Megas we have, some possible buffs and nerfs to our Megas, and giving us direction in what we should slate next. I hope to see you guys there!

Slate 4 will start after the roomtour(s) later in the day on Sunday!

Lots of great data from these tours, especially the second one!

There already been a lot of great discussion on the meta on Discord, but I'll add in a couple extra bits now that I have these numbers:
- All 3 Kanto starter Megas have been regarded as the best Megas right now and the usage stats more than back this up. Across both tours, Venusaur was the third most used Mega at 6 uses and had a 100% win rate, which is absolutely insane. Both Blastoise and Charizard also managed a 100% win rate at 4 uses and 2 uses respectively. Being the highest BST Megas and all having very strong abilities helps them quite a lot, so it's no wonder why they're so good. However, it's still early and, while very good, none of them have quite stood out as straight up broken right now, just overtuned at worst. Nonetheless, if any of the nine Megas we have were to get nerfed, it'd be one or more of these 3.
- The most used Mega was Banette at a whopping 8 uses, but it also had one of the worst winrates at just 12.50%. This means that it won just one game, which happened to be a Mega Banette mirror match. Banette isn't terrible or anything, just highly specific and in my opinion the second worst Mega right now. Might warrant some more exploration.
- As for the other Megas:
-- Houndoom had an alright showing, with the second most uses and a meh winrate at 43%. Blastoise existing hurts it (though Toise can't switch in to Sludge Bombs very often), but it doesn't mind Venusaur or Zard too much.
-- Audino and Lopunny were tied at 5 uses, just below Venusaur, with Audino being a bit more successful than Lopunny. Lopunny losing to both literally all 3 Kanto starters sucks a lot for it, but it still has a pretty dominating matchup against the other 6 Megas, still making it a huge threat. Juts bring a Blastoise check if you're gonna use it. Meanwhile, Audino is existent, you can't go too wrong with a fat Regen blob and it forms a devious Regen core with Tornadus, but it's still very passive as a Mega.
-- Lucario only had 1 win in 3 uses, but I find it to be pretty good despite the stats. Physical sets have sprung up recently as being very dangerous, as STAB CC and Meteor Mash still hit hard off of its meh 125 Attack, especially after a Swords Dance, supplemented by ESpeed being as good as ever for stuff like Mega Lopunny. Special sets haven't been as successful so far despite its 140 Special Attack, but destroying the opponent's Blastoise with a +2 Flash Cannon sounds like a valid option.
-- Last is Glalie, who only had 2 uses, with 1 win. Glalie is probably the worst Mega right now, just being a bit too weak to be a threat. Not a bad mon, just not quite at the level of most of the other Megas. Not making any promises, but if anything got buffed, it'd be Glalie.
- As for non-Mega Pokemon, not too much has changed for a lot of them. Excadrill, Landorus-T, Clefable, and Tornadus-T are all still excellent, Cofagrigus is still good which I like to see, and the same story goes for most other non-Megas. A couple really good base ORAS non-Megas didn't see much use in the tour, like Weavile, Rotom-Wash, Talonflame, and Zapdos, each of which have a been slightly nerfed by one or more of the new Megas, all of whom should still be good (Talonflame especially, who was great in the one game it was used in).

Not too much has changed from our general takeaways from yesterday, just a couple notes to highlight here:
- Banette won some games and that weren't Banette mirrors! It did literally nothing in both of its wins but a win is a win is a win
- I still think Mega Venusaur is the best Mega rn, coming in with another 100% winrate outing (winning 9 out of 9 games across the weekend). Mega Zard Y, the Mega it has the worst matchup against, wasn't used at all however, so it didn't get to face one of its best checks. Nonetheless, while we won't be nerfing anything right now, I wouldn't be surprised if Venu was the first Mega to get nerfed.
- As for other Megas, Houndoom and Audino did pretty good in different ways, Lucario regressed quite a bit going 0-2, Glalie had a pretty sad showing with just 1 use and no wins, and Blastoise did great but did take its first loss of the weekend (against another Blastoise team but still)
- As for non-Megas, it was probably just because it has a good matchup against the teams I used but man Tornadus-T go crazy. It loves that it can pretty easily take on the two best Megas (being Venusaur and Blastoise imo) and serve as a great partner to Mega Audino while still providing the same utility it always did. I probably would've lost to it twice in a row had my Gliscor not dodged 5 Hurricanes in a row to 1v1 it.
- Heatran is also as good as ever, partially because of Mega Venusaur's Grassy Surge, but overall it just great. It doesn't like Blastoise too much, but no other Mega safely switches in and very few can kill it without chip damage (just Lucario and Lopunny)
- 4 uses for Sylveon is funny to see. 3 were from the same Trick Room team, but still a funny outlier since it's above all of its teammates on that team and ties with staples like Blastoise, Ferrothorn, and Clefable

Overall, the metagame seems to be pretty fine right now. The Kanto Starter Megas are all strong but not quite broken and most of the other Megas have a place. However, we do want to address 2 of the weaker Megas, being Banette and Glalie, giving them some quick buffs that will hopefully allow them to keep up with our current Megas as well as the next batch of 9 before the next roomtour session:
- :banette-mega: Banette will receive the move Powder - This seems super out of nowhere on paper, but let me explain. Powder is a super rare move only learned by Vivillon in Gen 6 with a very interesting effect. If the target tries using a Fire-type move after being hit by Powder, the powder explodes, the Fire move user loses 25% of its HP, and the move fails. This effect is already neat, but then you see that the move has +1 priority and is also a status move and stuff starts getting a little clearer. With Powder, not only can Banette pivot out with priority, but it can also mess with opposing Fire-types that normally destroy it while also making it easier for Fire-weak teammates to come in. While Banette is also likely due for some stat buffs, this will be the only thing we give it for now as Powder is a pretty strong and potentially annoying option, so we want to see how it does by itself before doing anything else. At the very least, most Fire move users have a way to get around Powder and still threaten Banette (Heatran has Earth Power, Houndoom has Dark Pulse, Talonflame can 1v1 it even without Flare Blitz or Will-O-Wisp, most Wisp users can just attack it, etc.)
- :glalie-mega: Glalie will receive the following stat changes: +50 Atk, -30 Def, -10 SpD, -10 Spe (New Spread: 80/175/70/80/70/105) - This is another weird looking one as you may be saying "Yoshi, 175 Attack on a fast Ice-type, are you crazy????", but this is actually a lot less crazy than it may seem. Glalie's biggest problem so far is that it's just too weak to threaten most things. Even with Strong Jaw, Ice Fang and Thunder Fang still did poor damage, Iron Head was a poor STAB move, and its coverage wasn't very strong either. Plus, it speedtied with Lucario and Houndoom, which can both destroy it if they win the tie. Tying with Lucario in particular made the two compete with each other, as they were both initially weak offensive Steel-types with 115 Speed. So, we decided to give Glalie a bit of an overhaul to fix its issues of being too weak and a little outclassed by Lucario. 175 Attack gives its fairly poor STAB moves a lot more of a punch. 175 is a very big number, but you could compare it to Mega Medicham, who managed to be balanced in vanilla ORAS despite having many better traits than 175 Attack Glalie (not initially weak to Stealth Rock, stronger STABs, priority, some bulk thanks to its ability giving it power, etc.). Thus, Glalie should still be strong, but not too strong. This strength also differentiates it from every other Mega as none of them are nearly as strong initially. The drop to its Speed does hurt a little bit, but that keeps it from be too hard to deal with and it still outspeeds important targets like Garchomp anyway.

For this next slate, we will be looking at the mega evolutions of another 3 Kanto Megas
Mega Alakazam might have always been an extremely underused pick while Gen 6 was the current generation at the time, but after a lot of time people realised just how strong it can be, having high amounts of usage in both Gen 6 and Gen 7 before it got dexited in Gen 8 and banned in Natdex. It also the one Mega whose stats don't have a +100 stat addition which is kind of bullshit on Gamefreak's part. Mega Gengar probably holds the infamy of being the most broken non-legendary Mega of all time, with not only an extremely busted ability in Shadow Tag but also some pretty ridiculous stats that make it even a staple in tiers like Ubers and even Balanced Hackmons. In comparison, Pinsir just exists, but has had a very solid performance as an OU mega throughtout the years so I wouldn't be surprised if original wins.

Description: Fun fact: Jolly Pinsir max attack U-turn deals the same amount of damage as life jolly Lokix! Anyways Lokix at home is a pretty strong tinted lens mon which is able to use the really cool bug dark typing to its absolute potential, allowing it to wall break harder than normal Pinsir with the big limitation of losing Pinsir's signature priority attacks. Besides having a standard stat addition this mon gets some new cool darks attacks with the biggest new addition being pursuit to trap stuff, as well as a hefty special defense increase to give it a better time switching to psychics (notably not being able to be ohko'd by any of regular mega zam's attacks unless it forgoes fblast for dazzling gleam.

Description: Neuroforce is an ability that makes a lot of sense for Mega Alakazam since its flavor is how smart it is and Neuro = brain. Neuroforce allows Mega Alakazam to hit much harder when doing damage super-effectively, which can frequently thanks to its wide coverage. I wouldn't say Neuroforce is too powerful on Mega Alakazam since Psychic STAB is far from the best offensive typing while its coverage moves are either just 80 BP or very innacurate.

Description: Mega Alakazam doesn’t really have the look of a sweeper so much as it looks like a bulky boy (he meditates, so maybe slow paced playstle?), so I altered its stats as such. High defenses make up for 55 HP by allowing Megazam to tank any kind of attack it likes, physical or special, and heal off with recover to survive longer battles. It still has incredible offensive presence with 140 spattack, Calm Mind, and all of its coverage, but is more slow-paced with its 85 speed, putting it below Excadrill and base-form Lucario. Teleport and Knock Off also allow him to perform utility roles, and Magic Bounce let’s him act as a counter to prominent hazard setters and Mega Banette. Balanced by a Knock Off weakness. Also Fighting-type to help with Knock Off and Stealth Rock.

Description: A more balanced take on a Mega, with high defense + Intimidate and Roost to keep it in battle for longer periods of time. Bug/Fighting sometimes gets overlooked as a defensive typing, but in some ways is incredible, given resistances to Ground, Dark, Grass, and Fighting. It also learns Defog for team support, and U-turn to let it act as a pivot. However, with 100 speed, it is difficult to slow pivot, but can double as an offensive pivot. Kind of more balanced yet more powerful Gengar. 140 SpD and Twilight Gaze lets him stop any special attacker in its tracks and force a switch. No pivoting moves leaves you to guess what your opponent will switch to, however. Nasty Plot + 140 SpA could also do some interesting sweeping stuff.

Description: This form of Gengar aims to do a few things. The first is give it a ludicrous speed tier that lets it get the jump on many things that Gengar is normally just outsped by (or faces nasty ties with), such as Torn-T, Serperior, Mega Lopunny, Lati@s, and slower scarfers. This allows it to invest flexibly into it's higher bulk and use Sub-Split, Taunt, Wisp, and Disable. Yes, it does have a lower SpAtk than regular Gengar, which it does genuinely need; having such a high speed tier removes most of the ways to out-offense Gengar outside of Birdspam, so there needs to be more ways of defending against its attacks. It's easy to forget that how good an attacking type Ghost is in Gen 6, and considering Gengar can remain out of Mega to take advantage of the higher damage, or even not run Mega at all, the lower SpAtk stat is not to steep a price to pay for the other benefits. This mon's bag of tricks is very deep, and I wouldn't underestimate the sheer fear factor Gengar has just potentially being able to Mega. Also, it's new Attack stat allows it to tap into some of it's Physical movepool, utilizing long unseen moves like Sucker Punch, Knock Off, Focus Punch, and of course a STAB Explosion with power which goes toe-to-toe with that of Lando-T.

And that's all I think it needs to be both interesting and impactful on this meta! It could realistically have no ability; Mimicry is mostly just cute, mainly my first thought for an ability was one that has an interesting relationship with Levitate. It coincides with the two new Terrain setters the tier just saw added, and combines with Nature Power to potentially both a general STAB option and a powered up coverage move in one slot. It doesn't appreciate losing Ghost STAB when facing off against either terrain setter, but it can appreciate suddenly resisting Pursuit, or becoming a Knock-Off switch, so I think it evens out.

Description: The direction I always wished they took Pinsir in. Here, Pinsir is a tank with a notably strong matchup 1v1 against many of the best Steels in the tier. It gains very free entry into Ferrothorn in particular; Sap Sipper allows it to take advantage of Leech Seed and Power Whip, it's massive defense means it doesn't mind Knock Off, it's Ground typing combined with Earthquake means it hits it for solid neutral damage without proccing Barbs or Helmet, and it being a Ground type makes it immune to Thunder Wave. It similarly stuffs Excadrill's unboosted neutral hits and resisted Earthquake, Bisharp's boosted STABs, and utility Jirachi's standard attacks while threatening to KO all of them with a minimally invested Earthquake. Mega Pinsir's low speed means Steels like Magnezone and Heatran will be able to outspeed and hit its weaker special side, but notably regular Pinsir can still outspeed and threaten a KO on both of them. Skarmory is the biggest exception, but Pinsir can still potentially play into it with Smack Down. Outside of Steels, it's ability and typing give it entry points into Serperior, Amoonguss, Breloom, new!Mega Venusaur, and Tangrowth, and it's massive defense can let it check big physical attackers like Terrakion, Garchomp, Conk, Scizor, and Mega Lop. It's biggest flaws are twofold; The first is that it's low Special Defense can be readily exploited by many faster offensive threats, as even weaker, neutral special attack can scare it out. The second is that offensive Flying types and Rotom-Wash can give it a lot of trouble without even hitting the field with their Ground immunity. It can play around these threats with good prediction, using Stealth Rock, Knock Off, Toxic, or Rock coverage.

I didn't think that mattered? We're already adding new Gen abilities, and even completely new ones.

If it does, it's not too important a part of this design. Woe is me, let Uproar Mega Gengar reign.
