Game Freak hit with another hack, info leaking

God pretty much all of the beta Gen IV Pokemon designs are terrible though. For a lot of them that's obviously just because they're messier sketches of what would essentially become the final design but Rotom-W in particular is hideous.

Quite fond of extra-feral Mating Season Skuntank, however:

people who want the legends za source code to drop rn are cringe

pory leeks type people especially
i just saw a guy on twitter be like "lol if you dont wanna see spoilers dont see spoils" im pretty sure if the game leaks it will be literally impossible to be on the internet and avoid the leaks

"lol just get off the internet until a game without a release date releases" -reddit in a week

-There's another project codenamed Synapse. It seems to have some sort of online functionality with people claiming it's an MMO. ILCA is apparently involved
I will just say I don't know about Synapse, but I think leading with the "mmo_test" folder in the Bank source (turtle project) was pretty misleading to start off the leaks with and people have moved on since then, so I will clear it up here.

Under docs there are some Excel files defining the database tables that explain this is a "MMO mode" dated to 2011.

We can see there's nicknames, countries, clothes/customization options, and a message. I'm not going to say that I know what this is definitively used for but it sounds like this is all the things that the PSS uses, judging from it being within Bank/3DS code and the dates.

Lastly, the MMO mode is referenced once more in xy_namespace.h as being "used for test programs only" (テストプログラムのみに使用), so I think it is safe to say this was all just XY testing and has nothing to do with the present day.

Genuinely a Z-A source code leak would be absolutely devastating and I pray to the lord almighty it does not happen. The doxxing is bad enough we don't need to send the message of "Pokemon fans are so obsessive and impatient we immediately start lapping up source code leaks at the slightest delay" right after we JUST convinced them to slow down

if the one time they decided to delay their game by a good amount led to this it would be really ironic LOL

but also its not even just ZA, they also have an early gen 10, just that ZA is more along (entire main storyline is completable apparently, sidequests buggy, unpolished all around too ofc)

If you guys want to know just how thorough this hack is, we got full background 3d renders of the gen 3 pokemon tcg cards. I've never seen a hack of this calibur before, we're getting guts from all over the franchise!

I think they actuall shared that render back in the day on their official websites, but it's pretty impressive to see it in such higher quality.

Sorry. Sorry, I'm going to get mad. I am going to type in all caps like a middle schooler. Give me this leverage, I have been struck by a critical hit.

Theorymon brought it to my attention that Nintendo criticized Game Freak for near the exact same gaggle of accessibility complaints I've been making.

MAKE IT TRANSPARENT ALREADY.

MAKE IT EASY. KILL IVS. LISTEN TO EVERYONE ELSE ON THIS DAMN PLANET.

GOD.
i said it in the hot takes thread but i think they should prioritize the singleplayer >>>>> the pvp, with IVs EVs and natures being hidden because they are supposed to make every pokemon individualized

which is good idc if it makes it less accessible. roleplaying elements >>> the pvp

i 100% agree with prioritising single player, but that's exactly why i'd want IVs entirely gone - i feel like between natures and EVs, items, abilities and the four move cap, pokémon are suficiently individualised and IVs don't really add anything positive to either single player or competitive

EVs being visible i am agnostic on (maybe it could be implemented but only through some post-game NPC...?), and natures are a huge positive even to single player imo

IVs are the thing that the most changes mons between each encounter. Especially since nature is shown to the player

If the only thing that is different statwise when I catch two Level 15 Pikachu is their nature difference, I will immediately feel that these are basically the same thing outside of just nature

EVs only matters after training a Pokemon for a while

thats how I feel about it

Would you be against IVs being phased out in favor of other elements that individualize Pokemon in the vein of personality traits, memories, etc? I mentioned this in the hot takes thread as well but I think the conversation moved away from that. I just don't see what a Pokemon having a slightly higher Attack really changes from a roleplaying standpoint compared to things like personality traits.

This post has finally made it sink in what we're facing here. I sort of hit on it earlier, at least to some extent, but not sufficiently. Not nearly.

This is the biggest videogame leak of all time by orders of magnitude. Not just beta Pokemon from old generations but Game Freak magazine scans, TCG art, anime concept art, even internal presentations about that Netflix Pokemon show we've been hearing about for years. By the end of this month quite possibly every minute detail of this series' development up to the modern day will be at our fingertips. The GTA 6 leak is second or third place compared to this, and imo not a particularly close one.

I have no doubt in my mind that October 12, 2024 will be remembered as a turning point for Pokemon, for good or ill. It will be years before the final repercussions of all this become evident. Hoping that Legends Z-A/Gen 10 development won't be adversely affected in any severe way is merely the tip of the iceberg.

Some might say I'm being overdramatic, but I honestly don't think I'm being dramatic enough. We're through the looking-glass, now.

Oh I wouldn't mind a replacement, I just dislike the idea of outright removing it

The GTA6 one was big in terms of like, GTA being popular, but ngl it's not close to top 3 IMO. Insomniac leak I think is in the Top 3 because of the Wolverline leak, Spiderman 2 leak (this matters bc people are playing it on PC right now!! right now!! just unpolished), we got to see the financials of Sony as a whole and a loot of other stuff

Let's not get the thread off topic now regarding IV discussion.

Very much hoping that nothing regarding PLZA leaks, past very small word of mouth stuff we've been told. PLA was hit or miss for folks, but it was a critical hit for me. Would genuinely be sad to see much of anything of the game surface ahead of time when, given the TCG release schedule, it's very likely a yearish away. Getting leaks maybe a month out with tangible pictures and such is fun when they're so close. Waiting that long is a rough wait! Of course, just having a work of art wretched open and pried at before it's done kinda sucks since so much isn't perfected before the game's finalized. Not to mention, all the hard work of all these folks being exposed for basically no monetary value.

The older gen stuff has been very fascinating for a window into how Pokemon operates, but I hope it stays within that narrow field. Thankful the leaker has been very contained about future projects thus far.

Also I just want to say that Beta Cacturne is absolutely horrid and wretched and I love him and would die for him even if he would eat my starter pokemon if I so much ass glance away from it.
It's funny because my first thought when I saw Beta Cacturne was Paradox Pokemon (probably because of Raging Bolt and stuff like Brute Bonnet), which now makes me wonder how many Paradoxes were "new" redesigns and how many were based on scrapped or unused iterations of the old Pokemon (whether the species or their design concepts)

Ultimately I'd put it still on par with the original leak, were it not for the Z-A & Gen 10 stuff (that we're not even seeing (cowards))

Otherwise it's about the same...just...different scope. There was even a ton of correspondence emails back with the Gen 1/2 leaks but those never get proper archvied on places like tcrf.

To be perfectly honest a lot of this should have been put out in artbooks for years. I know the Holon renders were used in website promo images and such, and you occasionalyl get to see little bits of concept art here & there in galleries (limited photography) or an interview (easyu to lose in the wind) or a guide book (bizarrely inconsistently released and inconsinstently scanned).
I suppose I can understand not showing off all the scrapped Pokemon concepts, they clearly like to keep referring back to those, but I think some of these have no shot of ever coming back at this point....

e: Honestly even "gen 1/2" leaks is a bad way of putting it. We got a considerable amount of Gen 3 & 4 as well as some early SWSH & Let's Go stuff and some spotty looks at Gen 5 & 7

No I don't agree with this at all. Here is some major differentiators:

1. We are getting transcriptions of meetings behind major decisions and internal memos about different parts of development.

2. New Pokemon have been leaked (Megas) and concept art for unreleased shows.

3. We are definitely going to get more (this is not the end of the leak btw)

4. I've looked personally at stuff and this goes BEYOND the scope of Pokemon itself.

Unreleased DS games that went into beta that weren't related to Pokemon.
Harmoknights is out, too.

5. We are getting way more interesting gens.

By the time we actually got stuff like the Spaceworld demo leaked, we already knew a ton about the Gen 2 and 1 betas. We don't actually know that much about most of the recent gens, and I'm looking at the ability to see things like the ORAS dev wiki, the USUM Git, HGSS SVN and BW/B2W2 source code.

This is insanely big for romhacking too.

6. You are assuming we won't see ZA. I don't agree.

7. We got a shit ton of lore and documents related to design.

I don't think you get that while previous leaks were more curated towards things they thought were interesting, this leak is effectively almost everything that has ever been saved onto Game Freak's server and not deleted.

I see a link to a fucking Famicom tech demo that has never been shown before. That is the level of niche, obscure history we're getting. This is basically the most archivist leak you could EVER obtain.

And keep in mind this leak is NOT done.
