Yeah, I don’t know, it’s kind of legitimately disappointing to see a thread like this pop up intending to earnestly talk and then everyone clowns on furry stuff like it’s the mid 2000s internet? Not a furry, but furry communities have been powerful vehicles for ostracized groups and queer expression when other online spaces were shunning shit. I think it deserves enough respect for some hobbiest discussion here.

Look at yourself and the competitive Pokemon minuta you’ve built up over the years. Furries have that same enthusiasm, just refracted into an embarrassingly encyclopedic knowledge of the direct to VHS Lion King sequel. It’s goofy if you’re not into it, whatever. It’s also weirdly enough one of humanity’s ancient fixations. There’s more to them the most embarrassing stories and obnoxious characters the internet likes to chew over constantly. Let the furries have a nice thread.

Let's try to not be complete assholes in a sphere trying to be serious and respectful please. It might seem easy to clown on furries, but you're pretty fucking hard pressed to traverse any section of the internet that isn't already populated by at least casual observers of the community; if anything, non-furries are unwittingly playing in their turf more often than not lol. The least we can do is stay out of a thread that is trying to be serious if you have nothing good to add to it, thanks.
 
I think it is pathetic that a thread made in good faith intended for people to express themselves in a safe space has already been flooded with trolling, derailment, and memes.

The first section of the OP politely requests people avoid this. It should be common sense that if you are not a furry and do not have something productive to add or ask, then you should simply not post. I do not know the first thing about furries so after this post I am going to politely bow out of this thread because it’s not my area or my business — if you fit into this category, you should do the same.

It is not hard to just let people exist and discuss whatever they enjoy without interfering with your own nonsense. Nobody is hurting you by participating civilly in this thread. Nobody over the maturity level of a 16 year old finds it funny.
 
I would argue a large reason many of the people here are making fun of this situation be because they have trouble distinguishing furries from a sexual fetish or kink. I would not blame anyone for immediately assuming the two are connected because for most furries there is a sexual aspect at play even if the two are not always intertwined. While I understand this is not the case for everyone, it's quite a glaring omission in the OP, and even if everyone understood the rules of a SFW furry server, I would imagine that would be very difficult to moderate. There are very few lifestyles/hobbies that I can think of that can be both sexual and non-sexual in nature depending on the individual, and therefore, while I obviously do not have the power to decide this, I would advise against it for the safety of the broader community.
 
I know this is rich coming from somebody who has a large percentage of their presence on this website devoted to shitposting, but I agree with people like Finch here that people really should be taking this thread more seriously if they are going to engage with it. I'm not a furry, so I'm not really that interested in engaging with this thread anyways, but putting myself in their shoes, I would be a bit miffed if a thread that's meant to be a safe space for people like me is sort of just used by people outside of the community to clown on it.

Pinging random people in this thread is also the nadir of comedy. You guys really know how to drive a joke that was already not funny to begin with straight into the ground.

this is real but i gotta say its funny you say youre gonna be a revolutionary and use the most common bug in the furry fandom by a mile. furries are the type of folk to go "i hate bugs but moths are so fuzzy hehe", theyre everywhere and if you ask for a bug fursona youre either getting a moth or a caterpillar. come back here when you have a cockroach or a mosquito fursona.

anyway im a furry hi. my enjoyement of furry comes a lot more from my autism about animals and being frank i find the furry fandoms shallowness about it real boring. insert meme about how people draw every animal like a cat or a dog, so now if you are a furry reading this your challenge is to go and draw a frog furry. you need to look at frog pictures and cannot remove traits you think are ugly. you cannot give the frog paws or fur either

furries encompass pretty much any kind of creature that is anthro basically, whether it be a real animal, a hybrid, a mythical creature, or something completely made up.

they dont even have to be flesh and bones: many furries enjoy plushies, pooltoys, robots etc. it is much more important that the design looks like a creature /in contrast/ to a human/humanoid beast, rather than following specific rules
