Welcome to Smogon! Take a moment to read the Introduction to Smogon for a run-down on everything Smogon, and make sure you take some time to read the global rules.
Unfortunately, we can only self-vote once per slate, please choose 1 of your 2 nominations to vote for.
Thank you!

Anaconja Please change your Nomination’s ability name on Whishiwashi for Schooling. Jamis361SteelixPrismGX and I already discussed not editing old moves, abilities, items, etc.
We do this so people who select the default old abilities are not surprised by new effects.
I had already posted on your wall yesterday to remind you. Thank you.
OM! wanted to PM you but I couldn’t so this is the only place to go I suppose.
Why don’t you try creating the viability rankings or something? Then at least when the server is here you’ll be prepared!
Edit: and in case I’m accused of not contributing to the thread here are my votes:
Corsola (OM!)
Unown (Scoopapa)
Bastiodon (Heavyweapons Mann )
Wishiwashi and Toucannon (Anaconja )

I did have that post reserved, so far I have started the Role Compendum and have done the first 3 slates. Check the first page original posts and I even made a Discussion Break Rebalances log to showcase Nomination changes to prior Slate Winners.
I wanted to complete the Role Compendum first as I feel it will be a more solid listing.
Also, my goal when we launch the server is to have a play testing tournament so we can see how the winners all perform, not just against each other, but in the tier as a whole including actual original Ubers and Uber-revelant non-Uber Pokemon (like Tyranitar).
Overall, from there I want to do the VR rankings. Otherwise, the Role Compendum should help people build teams bc it should showcase what covers what.
Let me know if you have any thoughts on the VR via Discord as well! We can discuss the rest after voting.
The other thing to consider is that Rankings could change drastically per slate. If something wins that threatens a top-Tier and becomes popular, then the ranking of a Pokémon that won last slate could drop this slate, and then the following slate there could be a Pokémon that supports the original slate winner that dropped and it rises a little.
This Winners’ announcement graduates SteelixPrismGX to a Mega Salamence in regards to the Hall of Fame and soon all of our coding will be complete for this recent victory!
Wonder how that happened... Considering I announced it myself.
It’s all done now.

Hey voting closes officially at 12 pm Tomorrow PST.
If you haven’t voted, please feel free to do so while you have time!

As tomorrow is my birthday, I will let SteelixPrismGX close this voting slate and calculate all of the voting that took place, including linking to the original user and original submissions post, and that way I can properly update the OP when I log on - also announcing the start of the Slate 9 in that post!
Congrats to OM! for another magnificent 1st place win! And with this, he advances to a Zygarde-Complete in the Hall Of Fame, alongside with Anaconja! Speaking of which, Anaconja lands another win, making him one step closer to becoming a Primal Groudon in the Hall Of Fame! Congrats to these two in particular!
Before I open subs again, here is an announcement for all of you guys:
Regarding Static Signal:
Seeing that there was some discussion about Static Signal needing a nerf, and seeing that everyone unanimously agreed with a nerf, the following nerf will be applied: - Ground-types will no longer be affected by Static Signal and will purge Static Signal of its effect.
However, I feel like with this, Static Signal will now just be one-time and may make it a niche entry hazard compared to Toxic Spikes or even Sticky Web. So, I'm suggesting this change: - Static Signal cannot be removed by Defog or Rapid Spin, but will, instead, be "active" for 5 turns or until a Ground-type comes in and purges its effect. When that 5 turns is up or a Ground-type switches out after nullifying its effects, Static Signal cannot be reactivated for 3 turns.
This balances it out because while you no longer have to re-set it over and over again, you have to wait for 3 turns after it deactivates to re-set it again. Electric-types still absorb it, so in that case, you do have to re-set it again, but otherwise, it's permanent. This makes it unique compared to other entry hazards because it's unremoveable by normal means, and also because it has a set timer, meaning that as soon as you set it up, you have 4 turns to force out a non-Ground-type and cripple them. Scoopapa, you might want to implement this in Static Signal's code.
Pokémon: Beheeyem Typing: Psychic / Bug Ability: Regenerator / Sheer Force / Magic Guard Stats: 80 / 80 / 100 / 140 / 110 / 30 | 540 BST New Moves: Ice Beam, Bug Buzz Competitive (niche in Ubers): TR sweeper with majorly powerful STABs or a bulky CM user that either removes chip from Stealth Rocks or has an easier time switching out. Beheyeem's Bug typing also lets it be a decent switchin to select Ground types like Arceus-Ground, however its Bug typing makes it very vulnerable to Rock coverage. It is also vulnerable to priority users like Yveltal and Marshadow somewhat, as even though its STABs will 2HKO it it will be forced out by Sucker Punch or Shadow Sneak.

Pokémon: Lumineon Typing: Water / Fire Ability: Drought / Drizzle / Comatose Stats: 139 / 69 / 86 / 99 / 96 / 121 | 600 BST New Moves: Magma Storm, Taunt, Hydro Pump, Fire Blast, Flamethrower, Overheat, Hurricane, Giga Drain, Solar Beam, Recover, Will-O-Wisp, Thunder, Hurricane, Whirlwind, Lava Plume, Grass Knot Competitive (niche in Ubers): Capable of effective trapping and a defensive role, Lumineon's niche in the Ubers metagame is as a bulky trapper that's capable of dishing out status and punishing common Fire-type checks. Sadly, its low Special Attack means it often needs to rely on residual damage to get anywhere, and Lumineon's Stealth Rock weakness means it doesn't really check too much without significant Special Defense investment. Its high Speed and interesting typing lets it punish Fairy-types hard. It is also capable of being a bulky weather setter as Magma Storm heavily reduces the ability for Primal Groudon to remove weather, and Primal Kyogre would rather not switch into a Thunder.
Lumineon @ Leftovers / Shuca Berry Binding Band
Ability: Comatose
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Magma Storm
- Toxic / Scald
- Taunt
- Recover
Pokémon: Probopass Typing: Steel/Flying Ability: Aerilate / Magnet Pull Stats: 60 / 80 / 140 / 80 / 140 / 60 | 560 BST New Moves: Shift Gear, Heal Bell Competitive (niche in Ubers): Very similar to Pinsirite Magearna from Mix and Mega - checks SD Arceus formes, and can either be a preservative sweeper or a wallbreaker with Explosion. Suffers poorly from initially low damage output and initially low Speed.
Pokémon: Lycanroc-Midnight Typing: Rock / Dark Abilities: Adaptability / Tough Claws / Intimidate Stats: 90 / 140 / 115 / 60 / 105 / 90 (600 BST) New Moves: Knock Off, Earthquake, Close Combat, Gunk Shot, Ice Punch Competitive (niche in Ubers): Lycanroc-Midnight finds a niche in Ubers as a decently bulky, albeit powerful Choice Scarf abuser that also has a good matchup versus defensive teams as well. Its great coverage in Earthquake, Meteor Mash, and Ice Punch on top of strong Dark-type STABs in Knock Off or Crunch let it handle pokemon which would otherwise wall it, such as Dusk Mane Necrozma or Zygarde-Complete. Its newfound Rock / Dark is fantastic offensively, being able to plow through pokemon such as Mega Gengar, and is even decent defensively, being able to pivot in on pokemon such as Lunala and Yveltal. However, that Dark typing can cause massive problems against pokemon that can live a single hit from it, such as Simisage or Marshadow, or against pokemon that have speed-boosting moves that they can abuse, such as Rock Polish variants of Primal Groudon. Moreover, while Lycanroc-Midnight's base 90 speed is decent for a Choice Scarfer, other Choice Scarf users such as Xerneas easily force it out, despite the fact that Lycanroc-Midnight can 2HKO it with Stone Edge.

Pokémon: Rotom-Fan Typing: Electric / Flying Abilities: No Guard Stats: 70 / 60 / 125 / 130 / 125 / 90 (600 BST) New Moves: Hurricane, Heat Wave, Static Signal, Flash Cannon Competitive (niche in Ubers): Rotom-Fan is able to carve a solid niche in Ubers as an offensively-based Static Signal setter that can also go on the defensive side depending on its team's needs. Electric/Flying is incredibly solid as a defensive typing, and combine this with Rotom-Fan's 70/125/125 defenses, lets it pivot in on dangerous threats such as Mega Salamence, Primal Groudon, Simisage, and Dusk Mane Necrozma. Access to a wide variety of support moves such as Defog and Will-O-Wisp let it support its team in many ways. Unfortunately, Rotom-Fan is burdened with a Stealth Rock weakness, limiting the amount of times it can switch in and remove hazards, reset Static Signal, or cripple a target with Will-O-Wisp. Said Electric/Flying typing also does not help against the high amount of pokemon that can force it out with relative ease, such as Golem or Rampardos. Lastly, it also has to compete with Pachirisu as a Static Signal setter, as Pachirisu's higher base speed, a lack of a Stealth Rock weakness letting it reset Static Signal more often and an actual defensive ability, however, Rotom-Fan's better bulk on both sides, more raw firepower, and usefulness outside of just setting up Static Signal lets it differentiate itself from Pachirisu.

Ability: No Guard

Timid Nature
- Static Signal
- Volt Switch
- Hurricane
- Thunder / Heat Wave
Pokémon: Granbull Typing: Fairy/Ground Abilities: Intimidate / Quick Feet / Rattled Stats: 110/140/100/60/90/90 (590 BST) Competitive (niche in Ubers): Granbull has a unique typing that allows it to beat common mons like Yveltal, Zygarde, Marshadow, as well as Necrozma-Dusk-Mane, Magearna, and Groudon-Primal. Its speed tier allows it to speed tie with other mons like the primals and Giratina-Origin, though it gets outsped by other Ubers mons like Xerneas and Rayquaza. It also has the coverage to beat mons who would tank its STABs, like Stone Edge, Close Combat, Thunder Punch, and Fire Punch. Because of this, though, Granbull suffers from 4MSS, either getting walled by Ho-Oh, Celesteela, or Skarmory. It also gets outsped by support Arceus forms and crippled by burns.
Pokémon: Gourgeist Typing: Grass/Ghost Abilities: Infiltrator / Drought / Cursed Fire Custom Ability Description:
Cursed Fire: This Pokemon can burn opponents regardless of their typing (Corrosion clone) Stats:
Small: 55/120/90/120/75/110 (570 BST)
Medium: 65/120/100/120/75/90 (570 BST)
Large: 75/120/110/120/75/70 (570 BST)
Super: 85/120/120/120/75/50 (570 BST) New Moves: Flamethrower, Power Whip, Shadow Claw, Bulk Up, Calm Mind Competitive (niche in Ubers): Gourgeist is a unique tank or attacker, checking SD Arceus formes, SD Groudon-Primal, and Zygarde-Complete, and crippling them all with burns. On the attacking side, it can utilize its effectively three STABs to threaten Ferrothorn, Giratina, and Kyogre-Primal. However, its awkward defensive typing leaves it vulnerable to Ghost-types like Marshadow and Gengar-Mega, Dark types like Tyranitar and Yveltal, and Flying types like Salamence-Mega.
Typing: Steel/Flying Abilities: Filter / Skill Link / Sheer Force Stats: 100/120/120/70/70/90 (570 BST) New Moves: Iron Head Competitive (niche in Ubers): Toucannon distinguishes itself from Skarmory and Celesteela by having the unique move, Beak Blast, as well as support moves like Knock Off and U-Turn. This allows it to check Arceus, Necrozma-Dusk-Mane, and Salamence-Mega. However, it lacks the ability to set hazards that Skarmory has.
Pokémon: Bibarel Type: Normal/Water Abilities: Simple/Unaware/Tough Claws Stats: 99/105/80/65/80/91 (520 BST) New Moves: Ice Fang Competitive (Niche in Ubers): Bibarel is a threatening sweeper due to its ability to up its Attack 4 stages in one turn. While it doesn't have the best coverage moves, it's enough to hit most things in the tier for supereffective damage where it counts - Stomping Tantrum hits Groudon-Primal, Superpower hits Ferrothorn, Crunch hits Giratina, and Ice Fang hits Zygarde-Complete. Because of this, though, Bibarel suffers severe 4MSS, not to mention that it lacks any power unboosted.
Uh... excuse me. Bibarel has already won a slate. Why are you resubbing this when that submission clearly won? Maybe replace it with Raticate or something?
Uh... excuse me. Bibarel has already won a slate. Why are you resubbing this when that submission clearly won? Maybe replace it with Raticate or something?
Woah! You people are fast! Is reserving allowed? If so, I’ll be reserving Tropius and Masquerain.
Edit:
Note: All Pokemon deserve credit to OM! for improving them and supporting them all the way (especially for Tropius and Castform!)
Pokémon: Masquerain Typing: Bug-Flying Abilities: Compound Eyes, Drizzle, Intimidate Stats: 70 / 90 / 85 / 123 / 90 / 123 (BST 581) New Moves: Sleep Powder, Hurricane, Rain Dance, Rage Powder (Air Slash, U-Turn) Competitive (niche in Ubers): Blessed with a base 123 Special Attack, 123 Speed and Compound Eyes, Masquerain now becomes the most insane Pokemon in the game, with the ability to send its best checks and counters to Sleep, then proceed to set-up with Quiver Dance. It’s roles aren’t just mitigated to that either, as it has a variety of moves and abilities so it will never become stale. Unfortunately, it has a crippling weakness to Stealth Rock, as well as the ever-present Stone Edge and Ice Beam. However, it’s greatest enemy is Sleep Clause, reducing the number of Pokemon it can send to sleep. Nevertheless, Masquerain is one of the most interesting Pokemon here.
(All opinions are that of the author, and Smogon takes no responsibility for any criticism directed at this post)
Stealth Rock: With a crippling 4x weakness to it, Masquerain is severely weakened with it, and nearly completely inhibits it’s viability. Primal Groudon: If another of its teammates had been sent to Sleep, Groudon can be sent in, as Sun reduces the accuracy of Hurricane, forcing Masquerain to either use the weaker and resisted Bug Buzz or set up, and Groudon can later use Rock Tomb, which can be potentially fatal to Masquerain due to a 4x weakness to it and its Physical. Even if it does survive, the reduction in Speed will severely reduce its ability to attack.
Will add after playtesting.
As Masquerain has a huge weakness to Stealth Rock, Defoggers and Spinners such as Salamence-Mega, Excadrill, Noctowl and Castform are especially valued. Due to Primal Groudon posing a threat, Pokemon that can take it out like Arceus-GroundZygarde-C and Wailord are good teammates. Pokemon that benefit from free turns like Groudon-Primal, Double Dance Necrozma-DM and Ultra Necrozma are also good Pokemon to pair with it.
Pokémon: Tropius Typing: Grass-Fire Abilities: Drought, Tropicalling, Regenerator New ability effect (Tropicalling) : If the user is Tropius: Fire-type Special Attacks now gain a 30% chance to cause Leech Seed; Grass-type Special Attacks now gain a 30% chance to cause Burn. *Species Specific* Stats: 119 / 68 / 103 / 102 / 107 / 121 (BST 600) New Moves: Recover, Fire Blast, Flamethrower, Fire Spin, Heat Wave, Sunny Day, Gift of Gaea
New move effect: Gift of Gaea - Grass-Type, Special Attack - 100 Base Power, 100% Accuracy, 16 PP - Cures team of status - (Aromatherapy effect). *Can only be used by Tropius*
Z-Move: Giga Gaea - Grass-Type, Special Attack - 180 Base Power - Resets the target’s stats to 0, then attacks (Spectral Thief effect). Requires Gift of Gaea with Tropium Z Competitive (niche in Ubers): Originally meant to be a niche SubSeeder, Tropius is now a self-sufficient Status Spreader, Leech Seed user, cleric and offensive surprise. With most of its uses free of being disabled by Taunt, Tropius is now fully capable of supporting large teams pressed for role compression.
Standard
Tropius @ Leftovers / Tropium Z
Ability: Tropicalling
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Bold Nature
- Substitute
- Recover
- Flamethrower
- Gift of Gaea
Will add more after the Mod takes off for real.
Entry Hazards: despite being given a part Grass typing, entry hazards are all bad to it. Stealth Rock and Spikes chip it, causing it to have less HP for a Substitute; Toxic Spikes Poison it and make it nearly impossible for it to serve its purpose as a SubSeeder; and Sticky Web and Static Signal reduce its Speed and increase the likelihood of opposing Pokemon going first...
Taunt: Taunt can hurt Tropius by preventing passive recovery and stopping it from using Substitute. Yveltal in particular is a rather dangerous opponent due to it also having Oblivion Wing. However, Tropius can still spread burns and Leech Seed due to Tropicalling and Gift of Gaea, making Taunters rather useless against it.
Will add after playtesting.
Due to a weakness to entry hazards, Defoggers and Rapid Spinners are mandatory. Such Pokemon include Salamence-Mega, Excadrill, Wailord and Castform. Electric-type Pokemon that can absorb Static Signal such as Zekrom and Rotom-Fan are also good partners. Due to Taunt hurting Tropius’ viability, Magic Bounce users such as Sableye-Mega and Diancie-Mega May also be potential teammates
Pokémon: Castform Typing: Normal Abilities: Forecast, Air Lock Stats: 100 / 100 / 100 / 100 / 100 / 100 (BST 600) New Moves: Calm Mind, Agility, QuickSand, Aurora Veil, Shore Up, Tri Attack (Solar Beam, Stealth Rock, Spikes, Volt Switch) Competitive (niche in Ubers): With buffed stats all round, Castform can finally make use of the moves it was blessed with, with a huge number of sets and flexibility making it nigh unpredictable. Even better, the ability to change typing makes it extremely strong. However, opposing weather can potentially disrupt it, and Primals in particular are rather annoying. This is, however, a rather minor weakness, as they are effectively countered by Castforms sets, and there can be no doubt that Castform is a force to be reckoned with.
Lead
Castform @ Focus Sash
Ability: Forecast
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid / Modest Nature
- Hail
- Aurora Veil
- Spikes / Stealth Rock / Defog
- Volt Switch
Air Lock
Castform @ Life Orb
Ability: Air Lock
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid / Modest Nature
- Calm Mind
- Tri-Attack
- Shore Up
- Hydro Pump
Due to the hundreds of thousands of sets (no just kidding, it’s only a few, but half a dozen it a lot, no?) Castform can run, countering and checking them all is nearly impossible. There are only three blanket checks being Primal Groudon, Primal Kyogre and Rayquaza, but all of them are in turn countered by another set. Primal Groudon is hit Super-Effectively by QuickSand from Hail sets, Primal Kyogre is hit by Thunder from (ironically) the Rain set, and if Rayquaza gets hit by Ice Beam or Bizzard, it’s dead too. Both Primals are also checked by Air Lock sets. The best way to deal with Castform is to see what teammates it has and figure out the set accordingly to counter it.
Edit: Pheromosa and Simisage could potentially outspeed and even KO Castform before it sets up Weather. This makes it a brilliant counter to most sets, but it has to watch out for any quirky sets specially designed to counter it.
Will add after playtesting.
Depending on the set, Castform is generally flexible with its teammates. Flying-type Pokemon like Salamence-Mega and Rayquaza are good options to attack Pheromosa. Checks for Groudon-Primal like Arceus-Ground and Zygarde-C, Primal Kyogre like Cradily and Rayquaza like Primal Kyogre and Kyurem-White; May be mandatory.
Edit 2: how could I forget? Happy birthday OM!
Edit 3: thanks for all the support OM! Changes made!
Edit 4: yay looks like people are adding checks and counters to their Pokemon! That’s great, as we can figure out what stops these Pokemon and craft out teams better!
