Freezing Rain (NU Warstory): PurpleWeezing vs HeYsUp

The only thing that bothered me was when you claimed that the crit against Piloswine was so game-breaking. I'm just estimating, but could Piloswine really live through an X-Scissor and then a Close Combat? I haven't run calcs, but Close Combat should do roughly the same as a crit X-Scissor, and that was nearly a OHKO.

If he had used Close Combat, the Def drop plus the increased BP on Avalanche from getting hit first would have OHKO'd Pinsir. X-Scissor on the Avalanche would barely have let Pinsir survive. X-Scissor non-crit followed by CC would have killed Piloswine, but he was switching out to Relicanth either way. If Piloswine HAD stayed in, Relicanth would have come in for free and OHKO'd Pinsir anyway.

Basically this.

If he had Close Combatted, than I would have been in the same situation BUT I could take a solid chunck of HP off Pinsir with Ice Shard, and even KO it with Medicham or Snover, and be at a big disadvantage. With the X-Scissor Crit, he still had full defenses, making an Ice Shard relatively worthless.

The stuff in the box is theorymon about the whole crit situation. I just thought it was interesting to think about.

Code:
I don't get it. This is what actually happened:

Turn 2
X-Scissor (crit, 20% left)
Stealth Rock

instead if this happened

Turn 2
X-Scissor (no crit, 60% left)
Stealth Rock

now you have three choices for your next turn

1. Avalanche

Turn 3
Close Combat (KO)

2. Ice Shard

Turn 3
Ice Shard (lol% again)
Close Combat (KO)

3. Switch to Relicanth

Turn 3
Close Combat (42% left)

Turn 4
Close Combat (KO)

Out of these three worlds none is superior to a world in which Pinsir crit you the first turn. If you sacrificed Piloswine it would be the equivalent of choice 1. If you ice sharded after the crit it would be the same as choice 2. Choice 3 is clearly stupid -- it could even be said that the crit was good because it let you get Relicanth in on an X-Scissor rather than a Close Combat.

Now to the real point of the post. I thought it was a pretty good warstory, but as some others have pointed out it was a little less exciting than it could have been because there were so many sacrifices (which makes for a little less prediction which is always interesting). But the fact that it was NU and both of you had well-constructed teams more than made up for that.

Well firstly, I did not think he had Close Combat at the moment, and it would have given me a chance to damage Pinsir with Ice Shard rather then just end up sacrificing Relicanth later.

Not to mention, if he had used Close Combat, I would not be forced to sacrifice Relicanth because I would have known he carried close combat.

And in a Hyperoffensive metagame, such as NU, Sacrifices are basically needed and part of the game. For example, Flareon was sacrificed because nothing on my team can take a waterfall, not because I didnt want to risk prediction. I see where youre coming from though.

Very nice warstory to kick off the new tiering. NOw people will see how NU is played where stall is not very common but still possible. Prediction was still good although as others said, it could be better. Vice good story anyways.
Thankyou for the story

Wow, I thought NU was just a boring tier with bug/flying types running around everywhere. Never knew it was such a quick paced metagame.. I would love to give it a try some day. The hax's on both side made it more interesting, and importantly timed too. Nice war story!

Pretty good warstory, nice comments and a good battle. I may get into NU sometime soon, or most likely have my next Tournament be a NU Tournament once Clash Of The Titans is over... not sure.

Anyway again good job hEySuP or HeYsUP or whatever.
