Ferrothorn

What should I use with Spikes when the rest of my team is Bluengel, Blaziken, Breloom, Latios, and Porygon2?

Is this really the right place for

Um, Stealth Rock and Spikes, since you have walls with recovery, fighting types like SR to beat Flying types, and Latios likes Spikes for beating Bulky Waters and/or steels.

JT Swift: Rofling.

Nattorei makes an excellent partner to Ogre in Ubers. It can come in on Zekrom's Lightning Strike, and for ce it out, and use the opportunity to get up a free layer of Spikes. They cover each other's weaknesses perfectly, except for Nattorei's Fighting type weakness, which can be dealt with by Giratina-O.

I shoulda been more specific.

I can't find it, but i was sure that "nettori" was based on some kinda japanese legend or something. The names seem too similar to be a coincidence.

Hope this isn't off topic?

Well, which combo works best here, in my team situation?

Spikes/Leech Seed (Iwapares)
Spikes/Stealth Rock (Cacturne)
Stealth Rock/Leech Seed (4th Generation Torterra)

And is Level Ground worth it?

For a lead Nattorei you'd mostly want SR and Spikes, since Leech Seed won't help too much in the lead spot. I'd honestly use Power Whip or Gyro Ball over Level Ground, as they hit so much harder.

I consider Rugged Helmet to be a preferable option over Lefties, as with Leech Seed and/or wish support, it can serve as a pseudo-spinblocker

Both Nattorei and Shaymin-S serve different roles, anyway I've been having great success with the

Nattorei @ Leftovers
Impish
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 Atk

Protect
Spikes
Power Whip
Leech Seed

Probably not the ideal EV spread, but it's working out well for me initally.

Protect is actually a fantastic idea with all the HP[Fire] and random Flamethrower pokemon running around, not to mention in tandem with Leech Seed and Leftovers you can regain a substantial bit of your health. However, losing Gyro Ball puts you at the mercy of any Grass switch-in (although you're usually at their mercy anyway). I guess Power Whip is necessary to keep Manaphy (et al) at bay.

Perhaps you could remove Spikes for Gyro Ball? I understand Nattorei will no doubt force a lot of switches, but Spikes will most likely only be used once or twice, and though that is enough, Gyro Ball makes sure you don't get walled by Dragons in particular. Salamence, Ononokusu, Sazandora, and Dragonite all laugh at Power Whip from such a mediocre attack stat and can retaliate with their Fire-type attacks (which Onono lacks,) or they set up because you only Seed them. Not to mention, Spikes only affects Ononokusu. Maybe get Spikes somewhere else OR put this guy on a Gravity-based team. That would be magical. The various Flyers and Levvies will all have a very difficult time switching in and out with SR and Spikes support.

Aside from that, I would love Gravity Supporter Nattorei. Maybe something like:

Nattorei @ Shed Shell
Sassy (& 0 IVs in Spe)
252 HP / 60 Def / 196 SpD
~Gravity
~Spikes
~Gyro Ball
~Leech Seed / Thunder Wave / Power Whip

As soon as I get B/W I am making a Gravity team because it seems more deadly this Gen than in the last. Perhaps a new way to stall? A whole new level of phazing? With all the new pokémon, I think entry hazards would become more of a threat and hindrance than before [/theorymon]. Nonetheless, the support this guy will bring is unmatched. When paired with a synergizing phazer and spinblocker such as Heatran and Burungeru respectively, this set could be devastating. Other stall-ish pokemon and Gravity-abusers are welcome on the team, but I see the former two and Nattorei being a great F/W/G core for semi-stall (or whatever you wanna call it).

Any thoughts on Gravity Nattorei?

I mean, nattorei can use gravity reasonably well, but it only really gains a more accurate power whip, temporarily grounded opponents for spikes damage on switches, and I guess more coverage on level ground. And, well, frankly, gravity is terrible, regardless of how well the user or the team can abuse it.

Gravity isn't terrible, it just requires a specialised team built around it, and many of Gravity Pokemon have great competitive prowess anyway, so are usually dealing with other sets instead eg. Jirachi, Blissey, Dusknoir, Nattorei! Those effects you list are actually really useful, anyway. But I will concede Nattorei has better things to do than sit on its spiky hindquarters and pull things to the ground.

On a sandstorm semi-stallish team it works wonders. If a grass Pokemon comes in on me usually they can't do anything while I set up spikes, and I generally have to switch out after that as we can't really do much but chip away slowly at each other. And yeah, Protect is AMAZING to scout for Fire moves.

This guy is one of my favorite pokes
My set

-Curse
-Gyro Ball
-Power Whip
-Leech Seed

Curse lowers your speed to even more 'bottom barrel' levels to ensure 150 base power for Gyro Ball, and at the same time, raises attack and defense. This set speaks for itself. This guy is annoying and absurdly strong. I love iron barb.

Here's a SD Nattorei set that I've been using for some time on Pokemon Online.

Nattorei @ Leftovers

EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 Atk (or Sp def)

Relaxed/Impish

Leech Seed
Swords Dance
Gyro Ball
Seed Bomb/Power Whip

I chose SD over Curse as Curse takes far too long to build up, and a Pokemon without any recovery other then leftovers/leech seed can't afford to wait around forever.

Plus, with the ability to max attack fairly quickly with SD, Nattorei does not need to fear being burnt nearly as much by the bulky water Pokemon he tends to face.

Whether to run Seed Bomb or Power Whip is merely a matter of preference, depending on whether you want the raw strength of Power Whip, or the reliability of Seed Bomb. (Seed Bomb also has the added benefit of being a non-contact move, making setting up on, and defeating, most opposing Nattorei a simple task)

What item do you run on that set? Cause I'd suggest Occa Berry for those pesky fire types

Seriously, way to bump an old topic with nothing relevant at all.

So:

Protect + Leech seed. People say that ferrothorn (NOT nattorei, Ferrothorn.) has no reliable recovery. I really have to disagree. These two moves have great synergy on ferro' and wear down the opponent at the same time (along with iron thorns.) Protect can be used to scout for fire moves on say, tyranitar and gives you a free turn of lefties, leech seed and possibly sandstorm too. If an opponent attacks you they take 12% from the thorns, 12% from leech seed and 6% from sand. Add in a turn of protect and that adds up to 50% right there. If you can seed an opponent as they switch in, and are safe from a OHKO, counters suddenly don't look like counters anymore.

He can easily come back from the brink of death too. Say you have 17% HP left. You switch into something that can't harm you and leech seed. Protect, and you can easily scout a counter and regain 30% health at the very least.

A lot of people want to load him up with attacks and hazards leaving no room for recovery, but ferrothorn is designed to take advantage of passive damage. He should NEVER be a deadweight.

Power Whip
Protect
Leech Seed
Spikes/Stealth Rock/Thunder Wave/Curse/filler

For the standard wall.
